November reading wrapup

hmmm pretty good month for quantity but hit or miss for quality, i either loved or hated almost all of these. 💆🏻‍♀️

1. the lover, marguerite duras — tumblr girl classic, ur fav web weaving posts almost definitely feature a snippet of this. like woah 😭 ok very timeless very vivid and real. I did cry.

2. icebreaker, hannah grace — this is EMBARASSINGGGGGG i was going to a hockey game and was like woah let me get into this mindset... into this world… THIS BOOK WAS MISLEADING i thought itd be equal parts hockey world ice skater world equal parts romance and no.. it was nothing of the sort... this was just tooooo porny like WAY too much, even for me. AND I USED TO WRITE SM- *gunshot*

3. throne of glass, sarah j mass — does anyone have any good fantasy series recs that arent this?? like this is what years without winds of winter will do to a woman. im settling for this subpar garbage. but i am gonna keep reading it bc what else do i have, george???

4. mickey7, edward ashton — been on my tbr since rob pattinson was announced to be the lead in this in the bong joon-ho movie… i feel like with the creatives behind it thisll end up being one of those rare bones and all situations where the adaptation is wayyyyy better than the book. but idk. book itself was whatever good concept but didnt even really go anywhere. i thought that i had guessed a twist lie 3 quarters of the way thru but there was no twist literally nothing happened. therefore MID

5. blood meridian, cormac mccarthy — the only other time i had like a visceral tummy churning reaction to a book like this was when i read theons chapters in a dance with dragons 😭😭😭 anyway i like the lack of quotation marks and i also find it easier to write without them SHOOT ME

6. death valley, melissa broder — im really endeared to broder as a writer because i feel like she can only do one thing really well and shes very self aware of that.. which i respect.. also what the protag is going thru here at the start of the book is something ive also gone thru and it felt very strangely accurate and bizarre as a real person reading about a fake person going thru it. and literally within the book the protag references how writers poorly portray their characters accurately 'going thru it' (i keep saying going thru it bcoz im trying not to spoil even tho no ones gonna read my recs ALTHO this one deserves to be read i think) so that was cray and meta but umm what im trying to say is.. melissa i wanted to go to ur book signing i literally had my day cleared in my planner for u. why did u have to cancel the event.

7. indelicacy, amina cain — public announcement i guess but hey girl @noumenongirl i think you would love this one i dont know why but the whole time i was reading i was just like woah she’d love this😭 i liked it a lot

8. the penelopiad, margaret atwood — this is what circe by madeline miller wanted and tried to be but failed tremendously at.....

9. crown of midnight, sarah j mass — was better than throne of glass in the beginning actually but then they halfway thru lost me again..

10. the assassins blade, sarah j mass — im just hate reading at this point like i dont have anything else to do. Celaena youll never be daenerys girl like stop

11. elvis and me, priscilla beaulieu presley — ohhhh…. :,(((( my fav celeb memoir yet i think.....

+ bonus — im gonna add this to my december list but im like 75% of the way with fourth wing rn, good fawking heavens i wishthat grrm could trademark copyright the concept of dragons like i dont think anyone should be allowed to write about DRAGONS only him. like mini spoilers for fourth wing SORRY but WHY DO THE DRAGONS SPEAK ENGLISH, WHY DO THEY EVEN SPEAK AT ALL....cringe. but better than throne of glass at least😭 but it doesnt take much to be better than throne of glass to be fair. my opinion on;

character in general: robb stark was the first character i fell in love with in this series (even before sansa and theon which to some may be shocking) i watched the show before reading and i literally recall screaming and sobbing at my tv during the red wedding bc my heart couldn’t handle it. robb had the potential to be the greatest kitn and i truly believe he was killed off bc his character would’ve been too good and interfered with a better storyline for some other characters i shall not name. robb is amazing i just have so many feels for him. and sansa does too. she loves her big brother sm. we miss him. how they play them: look - there’s a reason i’m exclusive with your version, and it’s not that i don’t think other people can play him well, which people can. but it’s just our visions have aligned so closely. you have taken a character with 0 pov chapters, or if ur going by the show, 3 seasons, and turned him into a fucking powerhouse. you have made robb stark so real to me. how you play him, our chemistry as writers - i have based a lot of my headcanons and muse around your portrayal. your robb is literally engrained in my portrayal forever. i have to say you are one of few people who have gone so above and beyond with their muse, siphoning through so little source material and creating what you have. standing by your convictions, even if some people are bigots and claim they’re false (which robb stark is bi-sexual, thank you very much). you don’t just love robb, you’re protective of him, and it definitely shows considering out of our original gc ur the only one who has stayed consistently through without leaving for a bit at least. the mun: i’m really gonna get sappy here - sorry dj ur gonna end up just calling me a nerd or dork at the end of this bc that’s UR GO TO MOVE WHEN I’M A SAP. there, called out. but, dj was literally like the first friend i made in the asoiaf/got rp community back in last april/may. i was so nervous coming into this fandom, but dj was so nice. i was intimidated by her bc she was so funny and so popular and wrote like a fucking beast (in the nicest way) but when i got to know her she was so kind and so funny. do you ever feel like you connect with someone instantly? that’s how i felt with dj. like it’s so rare to find someone who makes you laugh so hard, who you feel like you can come to with any tea and not feel judged. if i wanna be a bitch, dj lets me be a bitch and doesn’t judge me. i know i poofed for a bit and we didn’t talk as much when i left to deal w real life, but dj was still a consistent friend through it all and i’m glad i’m back and have more time to talk to her bc i missed her sm. i can truly say she’s one of the best friends i have made on this fucking site. dj is so special and i just hope she knows that bc it’s important to me she does.

follow them: for now until she says something mean and i unfollow her like a petty queen for all of 5 minutes. rp with them: of coursewant to rp with them: always. i love the dynamic we’ve built between robb and sansa and it’s so much more than anything we’ve read or seen. it feels real and i think their relationship is super down played in the fandom. robb is the reason why sansa is adamant on northern independence. and i’m grateful to dj for having the chance to be able to write what we should’ve seen more of. ship their character with mine: hahaahahaha no they’re siblings, but folgers is always yummy in the morning. so is making them ur present.

overall opinion: i’ve run out of things to say, you can read what i wrote above. but ilysm and u mean a lot to me. now i’m gonna be mean the rest of the night to make up for it.

ummm... honestly don’t have a least favourite but, probably phillip in perdition and if you know me you’ll know why...

um a knight of the seven kingdoms bc my GIRL brienne became a knight and i was so proud of her, orrrrrr the episode in s2 where shae, tyrion and bron are doing the drinking game (only for that scene i paid no attention from s1-5 of got, my only concern was shae)

s3 or 4 as amy and jonah became a couple because THAT was the best slowburn romance i ever saw in my LIFE

i was very randomly wikipedia-ing bridget regan bc i was like ‘hm i remember how much i loved her, wonder what she’s doing these days??’ and it said she was gonna be in jtv which i’d seen like 50 ads on tv for as it was gonna air, so i was like ‘hey why not, i’ll watch it for b’ and then i did and i’ve been a fan ever since (*cough* till season five *cough*)

literally none of them, life is hell in westeros and i envy no 1 (or maybe ned, boy got out early, would love to have my head cut off before the real shit hits the fan)

jesus no, but i’d say rose is like cersei equivalent, and petra is sansa, and jane is .... too pure to exist in westeros. and rafael is like jon snow (figures bc i can’t stand either of them) and michael is theon, pure and dead.

17. Pair two characters in 1 who would make an unlikely but strangely okay couple?

richard and nicci, they don’t know it but they’d be a pretty cute and terrifying power couple. (also like... the books if you get my drift so ya)

jane the virgin is all over the place but it seems to have a more riveting and original plot (although i’d probably rather watch superstore)

got bc i’m pretty sure euphoria is just ‘euphoria’ as the title card with silence... which is strange and it stays there for too long, also i mean, game of thrones theme is award winning.
