Thinking about how petrifying it must have been for Su-min to watch Ji-won detach herself from her in every possible way. How telling that their nickname for each other was "[my] other half." Where Ji-won thought of her as a sister with whom she could share everything, Su-min only ever thought of Ji-won as an extension of herself, the other half of her that matters, the other half whose dad did not abandon her, the other half who is loved. When you're loved, you're not empty.
Watching Ji-won stand up for herself and refuse to do all the things she used to do for Su-min is akin to watching her two arms and legs suddenly grow a brain and go on about their life, abandoning her completely. At this point I think she's beyond angry: she's horrified lol
She is incapable of thinking of Ji-won outside of herself: she doesn't see her as her own person. And Ji-won used to unknowingly let herself be eaten away. Su-min's weird coping mechanism for her abandonment issues is based entirely on that. She both resents and needs her.
In the original timeline, she slowly, insidiously took over that "other half" until Ji-won completely disappeared, and Su-min was able to replace her fully (righting a—perceived—wrong). But, in the new timeline, her other half doesn't act like a puzzle piece. Uh oh, Ji-won is a whole, complete person! Su-min still tries to "replace" her, but fails because Ji-won has become too solid to be moved or erased.
I feel like Su-min's reached some sort of milestone with the last couple episodes. It's like she expected to be spoon-fed sugar as always, but realized she was suddenly choking on salt lmao. We didn't see much of her in ep 14 unfortunately, but her outbursts in episode 13 were so good. Hands down the most interesting character lol (sorry Yu-ra, I can't be bothered to care about youuu, I'm bored).
She's certified cray-zy, and compared to her composed appearance of the earlier eps, it's almost like she's experiencing a descent into madness... but girlie's been insane the whole time, and for so long, so at this point it's not a descent; she can't go any lower. Rather, it's kind of an abrupt ascent lol. A violent wake up call. Everything is bubbling up to the surface, and she can't avoid it.
Even during the confrontation (finally!!!!) with Ji-won, she took so long to drop the act, she took so long to admit what really motivated her actions. 100% sure it was the first time she had to put words, Actual Words on her feelings and behavior. And after her whole monologue, for Ji-won to reply, "...what, that's it?"
Even her reasons are seen—by her own victim too!—as utterly empty, and devoid of any meaning. Oooooh, it must have burned.

i have so much to say about episode 8!
Su-Yeon shouting in Hanbada’s foyer about how nobody cared when Young-Woo wasn’t hired even though she was at the top of her class and saying that it was all just disability discrimination at Young-Woo, Min-Woo and the everybody else was so great!
Like everybody has so eloquently put it into words. Young-Woo’s dad wouldn’t have needed to use his connections if they had just hired her in the first place. But noooooo they chose ableism.
Also Su-Yeon telling Young-Woo to smack Min-Woo in the head or punch in the stomach when she next see’s him and then Young-Woo threatening to do it was just great!
Now onto Young Woo’s parents. All I did was sigh and ugh during their scenes.
Gwang-Ho/Dad telling her everything about how he and Su-Mi’s history was great. He doesn’t tell Young-Woo everything straight away but I appreciate the fact that he’s honest and upfront about things when he needs to be.
Anyways, as i was saying, their love story was common and sad. They very clearly loved each other and I’m sure that Su-Mi’s parents probably forced her to break it off with him. That or she go scared about possibly living a life of brokeness with Gwang-Ho. I’m glad she didn’t give her up because of her autism, one less thing to be sad about.
She was probably in the car when baby Young-Woo was dropped off to her dad which I’m sure must have been gutwrenching.
But like dad/Gwang-Ho said, everything we do in life is political. Not solely political but still political. I like how he said that Su-Mi didn’t abandon Young-Woo because she hated her. It’s not to say that the political reasons behind our choices are correct. Lol no. But that there are many factors to someone’s choices.
For the record Su-Mi should have never abandoned her. With that being said though was abortion legal 1990′s in South Korea? Even then she was clearly rich enough to travel abroad to get one. I’m asking this because we saw a flashback of Gwang-Ho begging Su-Mi to carry out the pregnancy. This is all a part of the reproductive rights conversation. This rambling paragraph is basically me wondering if she wanted to carry out the pregnancy. Or did Gwang-Ho’s begging change her mind? Or did she manage to convince her parents to let her carry it out because I kind of feel like her parents might of been against it? Or maybe Su-Mi was on the fence about carrying out the pregnancy and she thought that Gwang-Ho would be a good father, even without her?
See all of this wouldn’t have happened if we didn’t live in a classist world!
Gwang-Ho being mad at himself for not being a competent father by not taking the bar exam, opening up a law firm and then having a way of giving Young-Woo an opportunity made me sad.
Like i totally understand his choices. He’s definitely not perfect but I understand him.
Now onto Tae Su-Mi!
Young-Woo and Su-Mi’s final scene this episode (Taesan Law Firm’s building is very cute and chill! Lol i thought they were at a cafe, at first!) was excellent!
Jin Kyung and Park Eun-Bin deserve all the awards for that scene! The women that they are! They will always be famous in this house! ACTING!
Lol but no seriously the shock that turned into heartbreak when Young-Woo told Su-Mi that she is her daughter was amazing. I felt her emotions!
And then Young-Woo’s instant sadness and grief when Su-Mi asked her if she resented her. I felt all that she was feeling too!
Young Woo saying that she enjoyed standing under the tree, admiring it and the town with Su-Mi broke my heart. The replay of their tree scene made me chuckle because it felt like Su-Mi had died and that it was a one of those death/grief montages. But then it felt like Young-Woo and Su-Mi were mourning what could have been of their relationship.
Su-Mi’s heartbreak on her face, her tears and her asking her if she resented her showed us that she it was a really hard decision that she made (one that she might not have made willingly) and that she probably thought about her everyday.
So sad. She still shouldn’t have abandoned her but I felt things!
The Young-Woo/Gwang-Ho/Su-Mi storyline is making me feel all types of things!!! So many societal issues are key themes as to how and why they are in this situation!
If classism and ableism weren’t a thing then we wouldn’t be here and Gwang-Ho and Su-Mi would probably still be together and Young-Woo would have been hired to a law firm like that! (that’s clearly me being idealistic, don’t mind me!)
Onto a lighter note! Young-Woo confessed her feelings to Junho!!!!! AHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! I love how serious he got when he was about to tell her that he likes her back. so hot! Of course Park Yu-Jin had to run right as he was about to say it back! Also I loved that Young-Woo ran away that night. She’s so cute!
i liked how the umbrella was the key to the case! also Taesan’s matching red umbrellas versus Hanbada’s mismatching umbrellas that expressed their personalites was great. also Myeong Seok getting everyone to look more uniform with their matching blue Hanbada umbrellas said so much! Also Su-Mi used a red umbrella when she was younger too!
Also I liked seeing Myeong Seok’s bedroom, I want to know more about him! I really liked his bed linen and also I have a crush on him! Him and Junho!
Next week’s preview looks like it’s going to be light and cute between Junho and Young-Woo and I can’t wait! Junho being jealous? eeeeeee!!! *squeals*

Hi ! I am sorry I’m actually just writing to commiserate with you about the devil judge, I saw your post about how everyone just puts everything on Yohan and I agree sooo much, it’s infuriating to me, how Min Jung Ho just like immediately says it’s his fault he got attacked, and don’t get me started on the fucking priest, what the hell bro? He was a child, a lonely, weird, abused child, not the fucking devil. Seriously it is getting me crazy, it feels like the only person who sees him as a human being is Gaon. I know a lot of people have made a parallel between tdj and Hannibal, and like, I really disagree ? I understand where it comes from, but Hannibal and Yohan are vastly different characters, and the whole characterization of Yohan to me feels like the writers are saying that while every one thinks this guy is the devil, he is very far from it, whereas Hannibal is definitely a monster, and his relationship with will is monstrous as well (and very captivating don’t get me wrong). What do you think about that parallel ? It just rubs me the wrong way but I don’t know if I put it into words correctly. Sorry for the really long ask btw 😅
Hi! thanks for the question. I completely understand what you’re saying. I hope I can answer this well because it’s really so complex. Sorry if this turns into a whole dissertation essay, Hannibal is like my favorite show ever.
Yea I can see a lot of people draw comparisons to TDJ and Hannibal saying things like “tdj is just Hannibal in a courtroom” or “tdj is Hannibal without the cannibalism” lol. I think what people are mostly looking at is the dynamic between Yohan/GaOn and Hannibal/Will and how they’re similar to some degree.
Gahan and Hannigram have a similar type of tension with each other. The difference is Ga On already had suspicions about Yohan from the very beginning and was very antagonistic towards him. Will, on the other hand, initially thought Hannibal was just psychiatrist and sought out his help. It wasn’t until a little later that he started suspecting him and grew to understand his true dark nature.
Yohan/Hannibal— wealthy socialite, sociopathic tendencies, hiding a secret, wearing a “person suit” (more on this later) to fool those around them, misanthrope and thinks humans are beneath them, thinks no one in the world could possibly understand them until they find the one person who does and they can only show their love through violence and manipulation.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ga On/Will— sensitive, empathetic, intelligent
Will is first introduced as this tortured genius who has an empathetic ability to recreate scenes. In short, he can vividly construct the mentality of criminals and psychopaths. Being able to step into a darkness like that, you have to eventually lose a part of yourself and start sympathizing with the monsters and that’s what eventually happens to him. They’re both capable of murder. Ga On was ready to kill the con artist for his parents if SH hadn’t intervened. They have a moral compass in their corner to keep them grounded (Jack Crawford for Will, Soo Hyun for Ga On—I won’t even mention Min Junho because the guy is sus). They’re both fighting against an internal darkness
Gahan/Hannigram— THE HOMOEROTIC TENSION.
“I want you to admit what you are.”
“Must I denounce myself as a monster, while you still refuse to see the one growing inside you.”
Actual lines from Hannibal. I can’t even mention all the lines that could apply to Gahan (I could hear these words being exchanged between them). Both Hannibal and Yohan bring out the best, and worst, in their partners. Hannigram is toxic as hell. Hannibal would go through all kinds of sick shenanigans to get Will on his side, Yohan has said he would do bad things to get Ga On on his side. Gahan’s relationship is one that starts out tense and mistrustful, then grew to curiousity, comaderie, now Yohan has come to rely on Ga On without him even realizing it or admitting it to himself.
“No one can be fully aware of another human being unless we love them.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is obvious. Hannibal is a cannibal, Yohan is not.
I was rooting for Will to finally succumb to his darkness and join Hannibal’s side because he found the truest version of himself in Hannibal. I have different expectations for Ga On because my sweet summer child is more different from Will, he’s not as drawn to darkness as Will is (in the recent episode, he was so horrified at the blood on his hands). Will in the end basks in it.
I agree with you about Hannibal, there’s really no denying that he is a monster. And there’s really no explanation for why he is the way he is; he wasn’t abused (as far as we know) but he was orphaned and left to raise his beloved sister (who died) and later became a serial killer. Yohan, on the other hand, was an abandoned and abused child who only had the love of his older brother. It’s no wonder that he puts up a tough exterior because all throughout his life, people have made assumptions about him without trying to get to know him. I mentioned the “person suit” earlier, this is a mask Hannibal puts on to blend into the human world. He carefully built his life and reputation as a surgeon/psychiatrist and socialite, presenting himself as the sociable doctor while living his philosophy of eating the rude on the other side on the veil.
Yohan’s person suit is a defense mechanism. Whereas Hannibal is using his suit to hide a monstrous nature, Yohan uses it to hide his vulnerabilities. He’s wearing this suit to blend in with the elite he hates, but underneath that exterior is just a lonely and misunderstood man (who’s actually a softie in reality)
Finally, I think these two shows don’t really have a whole lot in common besides the homoerotic tension. Gahan are vastly different from Hannigram. Yohan isn’t a true monster/devil while Hannibal is. Will turned his back on his moral compass and succumbed to the darkness, while Ga On can’t seem to let go of his moral compass and he doesn’t desire to become a monster.
Sooo ultimately…

Hyena Ep 13
- It looks like the murder mystery is taking a different path than I thought. I thought it would be more of a moral dilemma as to whether Geum-ja should be defending him, because it was kind of hard not to see this coming. But instead this is an actual murder mystery, where the lawyers are piecing together the truth. Anyway, Geum-ja said she’d hidden Jeong-hwa and Jun-ho’s relationship from the rest of the team because she doesn’t want them to be biased. Not sure whether that’s a good idea, but I guess it’s more interesting in terms of how it reflects on Geum-ja’s approach to managing her team and how she needs them to support her. She says that she doesn’t trust herself (which I’m guessing refers to her own biases against Chan-ho because she knew of the affair), so she needs her team to not have the same blind spots as her.
- So Hee-jae calls his dad abeoji, which I had to look up, which is apparently the equivalent to father, as opposed to “appa,” which is more like dad. Makes sense, given Hee-jae’s upbringing. When his brother called him, I think his phone showed his name up as Hyeok-jae-hyung, which I thought was interesting. It’s just that Hee-jae is such a distant person that for some reason I just can’t imagine him using close terms with anyone lol.
- When Hee-jae’s dad was in the hospital, Geum-ja went to visit Hee-jae. She told him to just focus on himself. I think that’s in line with when Geum-ja told Hee-jae that he needed to focus on himself and get married and have kids and stuff. I think in Geum-ja’s mind, the ultimate triumph is to live life well. (For a  second I imagined 18 year old Jung Eun-yong taking a selfie in the hospital being like I lived bitch and sending it to her dad in prison, but basically, I think that’s the sentiment.) That squabbling between Hee-jae and Geum-ja was fun, when she bought him food and Hee-jae kept making excuses not to eat it to mess with her. But I think it’s an extension of how Geum-ja shows her love. She was like that with Ju-ho too. When they met up to pass information she’d be like are you eating well, etc. It’s really nice when we get to see Geum-ja being domestically caring this way uwu.
- Speaking of food, Geum-ja spoiling Ji-eun with food!!!! We got some backstory about Ji-eun. Basically she was abandoned by her mom, was left to fend for her siblings, and attempted suicide but Geum-ja found her and saved her, and in the end, gave her a job. Ji-eun said that her siblings were like vampires, but I can’t tell if she’s saying that affectionately or if she actually finds it tough. I’m going to assume the former.
- After Hee-jae’s dad got into his accident (what Hee-jae felt was an attempted suicide), Pil-jung told him that he needed to focus on the inheritance tax law whereas Gi-hyeok told him he should take a break. I know it’s cheesy and super obvious, but it’s still nice to see how the different characters treat Hee-jae in crucial times like these. Pil-jung really only cares about his work, whereas Gi-hyeok is like “bro!!!! is your dad okay?? are you okay??“ Obviously Gi-hyeok cares for Hee-jae and his family as people and Pil-jung only cares for them as tools for his power.
- Geum-ja had a confrontation with her dad. Her dad just bullshitted being like “I prayed for you every day therefore I am forgiven” and meanwhile everybody else on earth is like lol that’s not how it works because it really isn’t. Geum-ja reiterated to her dad that she has not forgiven him. Like, it’s okay if Chun-su has understood the severity of his crimes and has learned to move on as a better person, but Geum-ja reserves the right to never want to speak to him ever again. In addition, Chun-su looks like he wants to blackmail Geum-ja and Jun-ho, which angers Geum-ja even more because how dare he. Not only did he kill her mother and abuse Geum-ja, and now he wants reparations for her framing him? Geum-ja goes full fight mode and basically says that she will end him if he comes at her ever again. With her father, Geum-ja doesn’t have to be diplomatic at all because she has no professional relationship with him. It is all personal, and she has no obligations to stick to whatever moral system in the process of dealing with him.
- So Pil-jung is supposed to be the final boss, which, honestly I should’ve seen that coming lmfao. I don’t know if there’s still new information to be revealed, or whether the rest of the episodes will be focused on bringing him down. I’ll admit that I did grow attached to him, because he was protecting Geum-ja and Hee-jae from the other skeptics in the firm, but Pil-jung has discarded them in their time of need, which is supposed to signal to them that Pil-jung never cared for them, and that he only ever cared for his grand plan.
- I’m curious about how the other big players will mix into the equation though, including Kim Min-joo, Kevin Jung, Ma Seok-gu, and the Ha family. Will any of them help Hee-jae and Geum-ja? Hee-jae said he was going to put together a team to help his dad, so I can see him needing some firepower there.
