"All fantasy authors have to start somewhere. The best debut fantasy books ever written are a testament to what that starting line can look like. In fantasy, the delicate dance between worldbuilding, character, and craft is always difficult. Somehow, these authors got it just right with the first books they had published."

i love rf kuangs books, don‘t get me wrong but i kind of hate that she chooses to kill her protagonists (at least in the poppy war & babel)
especially with rin. cause she‘s a soldier, war is all she‘s ever known and she’s good at it but i‘d love to see her grapple with peace and succeed, you know? i think it would be so rewarding to see her overcome that struggle and clean up this mess or even take a step back and let someone else handle it but just living through it, cause i feel like she took the cowards way out? yess she was becoming insane and it was the right choice but she just left? she just gave up and now nezha has to handle it alone? she became just like the women before her who killed themselves in hope for a better future that never came to fruition and i think we all know how it will end, the nikara might survive but they won‘t be free for a long time
and i know it’s unrealistic and rin would’ve had to change drastically to continue living but i‘d like to have the hope that everyone can change? that even if this world breaks you and there doesn’t seem to be a way forward, we still have to continue living everyday and trying to make this world better peace by peace

tonight tpw overthinking session is sponsored by how Rin got shot by lightning in the chapter 34.
we all knew she was insane and deranged by the end, and she realized that too after her connection to the Phoenix was closed by Kitay. she also made her final decision AFTER she got shot by the Hesperian's lightning, she said: "The lightning vanished her divinity, and all that it left behind was utter horror at what she'd nearly done." it made me sick to the stomach because while Rin's circumstance has always been awful and all the betrayals she's been through pushed her to made all those horrible decisions, she might not be that 'insane' if there's no Phoenix wrecking her mind, idk if this is a dumb realization … because I kinda trusted Chaghan in TDR when he said Rin is "the most stable" he's ever seen, and how Kitay had been blocking the "direct" connection to the Phoenix makes me think Rin has been kinda "safe" from the influences but she's not. she got drunk in that power instead, and TBG happened.

"Even though we love them, we have to admit there are some fantasy books that would be impossible to adapt into movies or TV shows. Not all magic and world-breaking fantasy elements are film-friendly.
Although book-to-film adaptations of fantasy novels have been getting better over time, there are still a few things even the best visual effects (VFX) and Computer-generated imagery (CGI) cannot pull off. I am a big fan of well-done practical effects, even if they are mechanic at times. For me, the way actors tend to engage with practical effects reads as more sincere. So, when it comes to this list of fantasy books, I mostly included books I think would require too much green screen or CGI to be worth it. Sometimes, magic is best left on the page and off the screen."

Finally picked up The Poppy War! The bookstore employee handed it to me and said do you know about chapter x in this book??? 🥲 I’m half way through The invisible life of Addie LaRue (which is pretty good) and am so excited to get started on this one. We also have Onyx Storm on the way. I hope I can finish these books in time.
