#THE KAYSANOVRE OF IT ALL

You're the one whose works all revolve around Joe, Nicky or Booker. Have you ever considered writing something focusing on Andy without Booker, or something about Nile, who is the main character after all?

Listen, there were a whopping 54 Andy/Booker fics when I started writing them and I have written exactly… 4. Out of the all of the 300 odd OT3/Kaysanovre fics, nearly half have been written by a single author and most are drabbles. I’ve written 11. I’m not contributing to some insane dearth of other ships here. I have a lot of WIPs planned for the future. Some are ot3. Some are AndyBooker. Some, gasp, even involve Nile.

If this is some weird “gotcha” attempt, then it’s a strange one considering I’m one of the bigger advocates of rare pairs in this fandom. (which, let’s be real, is everything outside Joe/Nicky basically)

But when I have to hear people say they won’t be writing certain ships because they don’t get any kind of fandom interaction, it’s disheartening. I want to see all the creativity this fandom has without it being stifled due to one single ship and I’m not going to apologize for calling a decent part of the fandom out for flat out refusing to even read some of the mere 30% of fics that don’t revolve around Joe/Nicky

MY TOP 5 MOST POPULAR FICS IN 2021

For me, 2021 was The Year of The Old Guard fics. I hopped aboard the good ship Kaysanovre (aka The Eiffel Tower) and fully indulged myself with several thousands of words on the subject.

5. The Slowest Burn (1k words, Joe/Nicky/Booker, pre-canon) When Andromache first met Sebastien le Livre, she knew Nicolo and Yusuf would both be in trouble. What she hadn’t counted on was just how long it would take them all to come to the same conclusion.

4. Homewrecker (2k, Joe/Nicky/Booker, AU) [incomplete] When it's revealed that the school's two favourite teachers are married, the reaction of the students is better than Mr Kaysani and Mr Di Genova could have imagined.

How would it land if they found out about a third party...?"

3. Close (2k, Booker/Nicky-centric, post-canon, NSFW) Perhaps it was the novelty of sleeping next to both of them - still quite an unfamiliar experience – that heightened Booker’s awareness. Perhaps that’s why Joe’s early rising, quiet though he was, had roused him. Not fully awake but further out of sleep than in, he’d heard the click of a door quietly close and instinctively reached an arm out left to the eldest immortal’s side, finding nothing but a hollow where his body had been, still warm to the touch. Thankfully, the arm across his waist and the body pressed against his back indicated he was still far from alone...

2. Codeword Blue (2k, Joe/Nicky/Booker, post-canon, M) Andy could only eat berries and grapes in even numbers. Quynh slept lying on her right side with a lamp left on. Joe liked to jog first thing in the morning, just as the sun was beginning to peek over the horizon. Nicky could disassemble then put his rifle back together with his eyes closed. Booker listened to Clair De Lune on days when he felt overwhelmed. Nile thought she noticed everything, including all the strange, intimate details of her new family. As pathologically observant as she was, she very nearly missed a new, more profound development with the people she called home.

1. For The First Time (8k, Joe/Nicky/Booker, pre-canon, NSFW) “What was wrong?... You seemed… Preoccupied?” Sébastien sighed, tearing his eyes from Yusuf’s hands and back to his face. “Did I?” His companion nodded briefly, casting a quick look back at Sébastien, locking eyes for a fleeting moment before quickly diverting his attention back to his work. “You did. After I took Nicolò’s hand, it seemed like we lost you.” Sébastien said nothing. He felt the heat of shame rising in his face, burning in his cheeks, averting his gaze. Yusuf continued working the knot, feeling the silken fabric begin to loosen. “You know how we feel about you, ‘Bas,” Yusuf was reassuring. “Don’t you...?”

5) What character that you’re writing do you most identify with?

Honestly, in general, it's probably Joe because we have painfully similar personalities and outlooks on life, so he always comes out the easiest when I'm writing. But lately with all the AndyBooker/Kaysanovre stuff I've been writing, I really feel like I've been nailing Booker because, as a parent of a boy who I would truly die for and as someone who is looking forward to finding love again later in life, I feel like the similarities are there

25) What part of writing is the most fun?

The daaaaaydreaming. I spend so much time thinking up plots and maybe it's just the ADHD, but I spend a significant amount of time just letting the ideas roam around free range in my head lol

This bitch has grown on me honestly. Me 6 months ago: “I really don’t give a shit about Booker lol.” Me now: Immortal OT3/Kaysanovre supremacist.

OBVIOUSLY I’m peak Kaysanovre whore so seeing him with Joe and Nicky are just it for me, but @andy-booker has been quickly making me develop some Andy/Booker and Andy/Booker/Quynh feels and I truly regret nothing.

My non-romantic OTP for this character:

Booker & Nile besties forever! Just absolute dumbshits together and the roasting never ends.

My unpopular opinion about this character:

Booker absolutely has the most trauma (the most traumatic death, losing his entire family, etc) in canon and is arguably one of the more emotionally complex members of The Guard but everyone is “mmmmm BAD GUY” with him and are cowards for not trying to delve into that

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon:

JEWISH BOOKER. If Booker not Jewish, then why nose? Seriously though, Leandro, EXPLAIN the mezuzah. One of them’s Jewish and it’s gotta be Booker and I just really need confirmation. Actually I don’t because it’s canon to me now anyways
