Haikyuu Manga/Anime: Tendou Satori is very loosely based on the concept of a yokai known as a "satori," a mind reading monster from the mountains, hence his name meaning: "Satori" is for Understanding, Comprehension or Awakening, and "Tendou", loosely for Heaven or Universe. Metaphorically translating to "Understanding All"
Haikyuu-bu, For some fucking reason every opportunity they get:
Tendou 👏 Is 👏 A👏 Kappa 👏

Haikyuu did it better than every other shounen anime, because every other shounen anime tackles the "hard work vs talent" debate in some way, but Haikyuu is the only one that successfully diminishes the concept of talent, or genius, or monster all-together.
Aka, the only way this discourse can truly be resolved in a satisfying, indisputably inspiring manner.

Hi,.....if you don't mind me asking, can I ask your top 5 favorite characters from Haikyuu? And why you loved them? And your top 5 favorite moments from the series? Sorry if you've answered this question before....Thanks....
I haven't! You're actually my first ask so this is super fun!! My top five would prob be 1. Oikawa Tooru 2. Atsumu Miya 3. Akaashi Keiji 4. Iwaizumi Hajime 5. Kageyama Tobio (but honorable mention Suga because he's a darlin' but I can't say he clears top 5)
I really really love cocky characters? casually arrogant characters really do it for me but also I find that all of the HQ boys have something they deserve to take pride in! pride is also such a big concept in HQ because 1. Japanese culture 2. athlete culture and I love to see characters that fully embrace it. Also I'm a sucker for pretty boys. Iwa's there because I had a massive crush on him in my sophomore year of HS.
TOP FIVE MOMENTS UNDER THE CUT!
My five moments are definitely more mundane than any insane on-court action. I love to see characters interact more than ANYTHING.
"this is going to be one extravagant family quarrel." Oikawa acknowledging that even though the monster generation has grown up and grown apart, they are still childhood friends and the best teammates/enemies on the court that the others have... you can tear found family out of my cold dead hands! ESPECIALLY when it's oikawa tooru.
"we messed around too much, tsumu." "you're right, samu." i love the miya twins and i have an adoration for their attitude towards volleyball, which is "ill drop it if it isn't fun" because I feel like we get a lot of characters in the series who are battling to remind themselves that volleyball IS fun and that they DO love volleyball (showcased in brazil arc). But the miya twins purely do it because of the novelty. this moment also is them acknowledging that they let down their senpais by not winning them nationals for their last year. despite being the favorites to win, Inarizaki lost to a small, underfunded school... social commentary.
"thank you for hitting exactly how i expected you would every time." okay THIS moment really showed how good tsukishima is at blocking, despite him being one of the more passive blockers in the series. tsukishima's attitude towards blocking develops a lot throughout the series especially when we see him challenge date tech and shiratorizawa. i love that he's almost completely disregarded kill-blocking near the end of the series (SWEETENED by the knowledge that he goes pro, my darling boy) in favor of his own playing style. this scene definitely shows his development, especially when going against a blocker like sunarin. :)
"if you ever get boring, i'll drop you." Firstly, it's nice to see that kenma keeps his near-psychopathic attitude even after he's grown up (my redditor king) but also- I LOVE kenhina whether it's platonic or slash. Kenhina is one of the pairings which I FIND has the most chemistry, so to see them carry on being not only besties but also have a sponsor/beneficiary relationship is awesome. (I also secretly relate it to a prince/his champion relationship in my mind but shhh).
"power curry is a service ace!" This is so domestic. seeing the characters make fun of each other for their cringey moments as celebrities... it's so good. they really are each other's family and i will cherish every moment which we're reminded of it.
Anyways thank you so so much for your ask!! i had so much fun answering it :>

probably the worst idea i've ever had (ft. hq rarepair that i've never seen anyone discuss before)
So, I have I think more than thirty tskym fics in my docs (none of them are fully complete) and recently I've been working on one that was supposed to be a one-shot yet it escalated and it's growing to be its full monster.
Without sharing much, it revolves around Tadashi and Kei's relationship, with it tempting to cross the lines from really-close-friends to something more - yet without ever making the real jump. I also projected my experience with comphet and realising I was bisexual and the internalized homophobia I first faced - and since my favourite character of all Haikyuu is Tadashi, well, I used him as my guinea pig.
The thing is, I wanted to include a Tsukki pair that was not TsukkiYama, KuroTsuki, TsukiKage or TsukiHina, since they wouldn't really fit in the story. I was scrolling on twitter and boom.
Hear me out: TeruTsuki - don't click off yet.
Listen, does it make sense? Absolutely not. I think Tsukki would be annoyed as hell with Terushima - yet I actually am starting to like the idea of them as a messy fwb situation, where there are no strings attached and they just vibe.
So, I think Teruyama is a pretty popular ship and although I have no problems (because why would I have) if someone ships it, I never could get totally behind it. Like, I guess it's fun, yet I also think Tadashi would never like someone like Terushima. And I think people like it more because it gives the chance to write about Punk!Yamaguchi, which I think it's a funny concept yet I'm not a fan of because I always find myself missing the actual/canon Tadashi.
Yet...Terutsuki? That could be funny and almost even plausible without changing their personalities - too much.
I feel so stupid - this is all this user's fault.
And this one too
TELL ME YOU CAN'T SEE IT? There's something cooking here.
And just imagine the amount of drama it would cause. For context, when I write jealousy I usually write Tsukki kind of depressed and with self-esteem issues (because, same) - which is great for angst and character/relationship study! Yet, I've realised that writing jealousy with Tadashi has so much potential to be funny AS FUCK.
He was two seconds from barking at Koganegawa just because he called Kei "Tsukki". Just imagine how funny it would be if Tsukki was suddenly going out with freaking Terushima.
I imagine him just being like "What the fuck, Tsukki. Since when do you like punks? He has a tongue piercing for fucks sake! Who cares if he is on the top of his class - his hair is piss coloured!"
And I think it would be even funnier if Kei and Terushima didn't actually have any sort of feelings for the other. Like, I'm not saying as in they are fake-dating, but like more as friends that occasionally make out because one, it's fun. Two, Terushima is figuring things out. Three, Kei wants to move on from whatever the hell happened between Yamaguchi and him and he is going to do it - in one way or another.
They are both using the other for something, yet it is not unhealthy since they are pretty open about it.
So, what if Tsukki wants to make Tadashi a bit jealous? Terushima doesn't mind - he is enjoying it even.
I have no words to express how disappointed I am of myself.
#tsukkiyama#yes i'm still tagging this as tskym since they will always be my OTP#and they are endgame in the fic anyway#tskym#haikyuu#tsukishima kei#yamaguchi tadashi#terushima yuuji#terutsuki#THAT WAS NOT EVEN A TAG HELP#i'm sure there has to be more people who have think the same thing as me#i don't want to feel crazy please help

You can't imagine how excited I am to find someone who love both Haikyuu and Kuroko no Basket! See, until now, I have different moots who only love either series above and think the other is less something. I'm the only one who loves both series in my groups, until I found you... 😆🤩
Now, as fan of both Haikyuu and Kuroko no Basket, I will NOT ask which is better, because both series are amazing....
But, can you imagine in AU crossover, which characters will be besties from both series if they ever meet? Why do you think that? Please pick at least 5 characters from each series...
Also, if you were asked who are in Haikyuu and KnB that you can see based on canon that are gay/bi/pan/demi, which characters are they?
Thx ⭐
Yes. I've spoken about this before a little. And am happy to talk about it more.
I'll start with something over considered/spoken about before
1. Kageyama and GoM (especially Aomine and Momoi)
- not really surprising. If I can find a way to add Kageyama to something I will. As I said I discussed this one before.
- After his last middle school volleyball match, Kageyama simply can't play volleyball anymore.
- It was all he had left and even it ended up betraying him, letting him push everyone away.
- He can't stay and go to school in Miyagi, he could run into a former teammate, so he moves and goes to the same school as one of the GoM.
- Around this time, he discovers basketball, and his brain sees shooting and links it to setting, only he doesn't need anyone to spike it.
- He's fascinated
- He ends up practicing shooting and gets quite good, though he's not immediately as good at the other skills, he doesn't need to be, he doesn't plan to actually play basketball.
- Except someone on his school's team sees him shooting one day and decides over the summer to at least get him to try put, so after summer, they drag him to practice.
- He tries to get out of it but they get him practicing anyway and he does well enough to make it on the team.
- He actually enjoys basketball but feels like he's betraying his grandfather by quitting the sport he taught him and replacing it with a different sport.
- I've decided he goes to Touou and Momoi was the one that saw him shoot and took him to practice.
- Anyway he finds out about the GoM and is curious so finds and watches their games.
- he's fascinated by them. He's been called a prodigy himself, but it's nothing like this.
- and the way people talk about them, calling them monsters and freaks for what they can do on a basketball court? Well, Kageyama knows a thing or two about that.
- Kageyama is not a "basketball prodigy" in the way the GoM are, he's not like Kagami either. Basketball is new to him. He can provably figure out some of it due to similarities with volleyball concepts, but there will be rules and skills that are unique to basketball that he doesn't have at the start.
- He doesn't figure it all out instantly. It takes a lot of practicing, both on his own and with his teammates.
- along the way he meets the GoM.
- Momoi kind of adopts him after she realises Kageyama has no social skills but typically doesn't mean to hurt or upset people.
- Because of this, he meets Aomine.
- their friendship is not smooth sailing.
- Neither of them are good at friendship or socialising, but it wouldn't be terrible either.
- it doesn't take long for Kageyama to open up to them, mostly Momoi, about middle school, and Momoi has a way of getting everything out of him.
- in return, Momoi tells him a little bit about the generation of miracles, not a lot but enough for him to know how much Aomine used to love basketball.
- The GoM bond over being let down by their teachers and coaches in the past, particularly in their respective middle schools.
- Also, Kageyama is awkward with Kise at first, because Kise kinda reminds him of Oikawa, especially when Kageyama sees him and Kasamatsu interact, so Kageyama tries to avoid him at first.
- But Kise isn't really jealous of Kageyama in any way so they do eventually become friends. Kise still teases him a lot but its very different to how Oikawa mocked him in middle school. Also Kise is so physically affectionat, and so is Aomine in his own way, and Kageyama does not know how to handle it.
- also when he does lose his temper, they don't get scared and back down or shit talk behind his back, Aomine gives as good as he gets. All of Touou does. And Momoi is very good at calming him down and helping him say what he means.
- Kageyama still manages to meet Hinata again when Hinata gets lost during a training camp nearby. Hinata's shocked to learn he's no longer on a volleyball team. Hinata convinces him to practice with Karasuno just once (basically kidnaps him to do so) and Kageyama has fun but playing volleyball just isn't the same without his grandfather
- Kageyama grows to love basketball and becomes friends with his team and he doesn't stand out, so he isn't treated like a tyrant and a monster.
- at some point Kageyama finds out what happened to make Aomine fall out of love with basketball. Aomine doesn't tell him.
- okay now stuff I didn't discuss before.
- Him, Kise, Kagami, Aomine, basically all of them get so competitive over the dumbest things
- they heal together
- Akashi and Midorima don't like him at first because he's too dumb for them, but they eventually grow to like him
- they're all very protective over each other. They can mess with each other, but someone else does it, they'll all fight.
- if Kageyama is rich, like his family, maybe Akashi and Kageyama's parents know each other, and Akashi and Kageyama find out when they're both dragged to the same fancy rich people party.
- Kuroko doesn't know how to feel about Kageyama at first but they eventually have a very chill friendship.
- kageyama is secretly a really good chef and Murasakibara falls in live with his cooking.
- Kageyama gets his real, genuine smile back.
so Kageyama and GoM in general. They bond over the perils of being prodigies
2. Oikawa and Kise
- I mentioned before how I think Oikawa and Kise have some similarities
- model Oikawa AU
- They're bothe besties and rivals. They hate and love each other and are constantly talking shit about each other but also have each other's backs in the cutthroat modeling industry.
- Kise and Oikawa have known each other since before Kise met Kageyama.
- When Oikawa finds out Kise knows and is friends with Kageyama, he gets very whiny, but secretly he's happy that Kageyama has good friends. He felt bad when he realise Kageyama quit volleyball and moved away and he does apologise
- Oikawa constantly brags to the GoM about how much Kageyama used to look up to him.
- Oikawa and Iwaizumi double dates with Kise and Kasamatsu. Like, Kasamatsu and Iwaizumi are so done but too in love with their respective boyfriends to argue.
They have so many fangirls
Wait Kise and Oikawa fake dating to get their fangirls off their backs. (Iwaizumi and Kasamatsu don't want that kind of attention, it's less we're secretly dating and more only the people we actually know need to know)
Kise and Oikawa both just gossiping and talking shit about people. Like, these two are just besties
3. Osamu Miya and Murasakibara
A very chill friendship
They just hang out
maybe quietly judge people
eat snacks together
Osamu can cook so he makes stuff for Murasakibara
Murasakibara gets a friends' discount at onigiri Miya but buys so much onigiri from there that it cancels out really
On a similar note Suna, Osamu and Murasakibara.
They nap together
As i said their friendship is very chill, very calm. They're all just kinda hanging out and maybe quietly judging the people around them
4&5. Kagami Taiga, Aomine and Tanaka and Nishinoya
couldn't decide which one so both
They love Kagami. I'm sorry, Kagami is always ready to start shit and they love that
They think Kagami is so cool
Kagami sees their protectiveness over Kiyoko and Yachi. We already know Kagami respects women
Actually at first Kagami thinks Tanaka and Nishinoya have a crush on Kiyoko only because of her looks, until he offhandedly asks why they like her. Nishinoya can't really answer but Tanaka goes on a full rant about everything about Kiyoko and Kagami is like 'damn he really likes her. Okay, my bad'
This is just the trio of guys that think they're so cool but are really kinda losers. (I mean that affectionately, i love them, they're just not the cool guys they think they are and that's okay)
Chaotic friendship. Like this is not them being calm and hanging out. Half the time they get together it ends in them trying to fight someone
Kagami is their impulse control, the level-headed one. And he's Kagami, so the impulses are very much not controlled. Kagami is there.
oh my god, Kagami is secretly their scary dog protection. You know he's kind of a big guy, muscular. I imagine him glaring at you, if you didn't know him, would be fairly scary. Kagami and Nishinoya trying to fight someone for disrespecting women, they don't care. Kagami rolls up, doesn't even say anything, but suddenly those guys are very much sorry.
Add Aomine to this too. Someone was hitting on Momoi and making her uncomfortable. Listen, i love Momoi, I'm sure she'd try to stand up for herself but some men don't like that
Tanaka and Nishinoya see and intervene, as they would if it was Kiyoko, Yachi, etc.
Guy doesn't really care, isn't intimidated.
Kagami rolls up, recognises Momoi, doesn't really know the situation so goes over to check on Momoi, who quietly explains wahat's happening. Death glare.
Then Aomine comes. If this guy didn't already regret his choices and run off, he soon wishes he did, because Aomine can and will kick his ass, Kagami might too, hell, any of them would at least try to kick their asses.
And thus the most chaotic friend group forms. Not a braincell in sight (unless Momoi's with them), not an impulse controlled, so chaotic, so competetive, so loud, so ready to fight anyone and everyone all of the time. Someone save Momoi, she already had her work cut out for her with Aomine and Kagami, when they became friends or whatever they've got going on. Now she has to deal with Tanaka and Nishinoya too?
sexuality
Based on canon, first, Yachi is either lesbian or bisexual. I know it's mostly anxiety but no one can ever convince me the panic that made her agree to join the volleyball team wasn't a little gay, but at the same time I could see Yachi and Yamaguchi getting together at some point, so Yachi is bi, I think, at least in the anime
Sometimes I think there's a strong case for Kageyama being somewhere on the asexuality specturm. Just, the only people he seems to notice are those related to volleyball, so he's either gay but exclusively attracted to volleyball players or he's some form of asexual. I don't think he's attracted to women, personally, i just don't see it.
There's no way Kagami and Aomine are straight. They definitely fuck offscreen at some point and then just never mention it. Kagami could easily be gay, i see nothing to tell me he's attracted to women. Aomine could be pan, bi or gay and ot ultimately depends but, like, I really don't think either of them are straight. Not even for 'i ship them with each other' reasons. Aomine acts like Kuroko's jealous ex at first, upset because his ex partner found someone new, but he also becomes a source of encouragement and inspiration for them, especially Kagami. A lot of the time, when the focus is on Kagami during a game, it goes to Aomine soon after. For someone who pretends not to care, he really seems to care quite a bit.
I can't really think of others I think are gay, bi, pan, etc. because of the canon show. Like, I generally think most of them could be LGBT but that's mostly because of who I ship them with. Canonically? These are all I can think of for now. I've thought Yachi was attracted to women since I first saw her onscreen with the Kiyoko scene.
As I said, Kageyama I am undecided but I do think he could have been attracted to Oikawa. I see nothing to suggest he's attracted to women or girls or whatever. He could be one the asexuality spectrum somewhere
If anyone wants to send me asks for headcanons, snippets, drabbles or just questions like this, please feel free to ask. Hell I'm bored, ask me whatever as long as its fandom related or fiction related. To see what fandoms I write for, check my pinned post. I will probably add to it in the future as I think of things I liked and would be happy to write for. But it is for practice purposes.
Also check out my other post:
I really wanna do this because I really do think I could have fun with it so please go read that, comment a name.

Some fic reading numbers to wrap up 2024
In 2024, I’d say my fandom habits could be summarized into this: 1) ya girl had a danmei phase (though really, considering that my chief loves in media are historical fiction, fantasy, mystery, and queer love stories with the occasional dash of gothic horror, the better question is why didn't I have a danmei phase sooner lmao), 2) baby’s 1st shounen fandom, and 3) vampires. And of course I’m still haunting my usual AFTG corner, though not as much as years previous.
In 2024, I bookmarked on ao3 1468 new fics for 55 fandoms, though only about 1074 of those were public bookmarks (jfc you can really tell that I was reading a lot of fic to cope with the horrors). The fandom I read the most for was IWTV, managing to unseat MDZS as my most read-for fandom this year, accounting for about 178 of those new bookmarks.
Below is a multi-fandom list of 10 of my favorites of all the fics I read in 2024. I limited myself to only choosing fics that are complete and standalones cuz otherwise I prob wouldn’t be able to limit it to only 10. If there’s one takeaway I think I can take from this list, it’s that this year I was very into experimental formats (somehow every other fic on this list is experimental somehow lol)
In no particular order:
Fandom: Haikyuu!!
the body you become by binkslug
Because you are now a monster made from the rubble of what you wanted, know the taste of greed and wish the world wouldn’t tell you to run, you are worried. But I have loved you my whole life, before the idea of you. Before the world could speak riddles in your ear. I will love you until you ask me not to.

Fandom: Dungeon Meshi

Fandom: The Locked Tomb

"ALARM [Challenging: Success] — Something is wrong. Missing.
YOU — Your body vies for your attention in sudden, competing aches. And! Everything!! Hurts!!!
INDIGNATION — Ugh! What idiot invented the shoulder! What mega-idiot invented shoulder pain!!"
Or: Mercymorn and the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. A Disco Elysium AU.
Absolutely phenomenal and heartbreaking character study in a super cool format
Fandom: Interview with the Vampire
Sweet Mephistopheles by cyranonic/ @cyranonic
He would prefer to have Louis more accounted for. He would prefer to never worry about accounting for Louis ever again. Therein lies the kernel of conflict that has rubbed raw within him for all of his years—to cede control somehow without ever losing it.

Five snapshots of Louis and Armand's seventy-seven years together. Armand guards the gates of their paradise. Daniel nevertheless slithers through.
Prob my favorite Armand characterization I’ve read so far
24 items from the collection of A.M. (1974 to 1985) by volkswagonblues/ @volkswagonblues
Here, in this Parisian hospital room, Alice and Armand begin their last collaboration: Daniel’s life story. They’re putting it together; no, they’re taking it apart. Events take place, relative to other events. One damn thing after another. But that’s how all stories work.
In 1973, Daniel Molloy meets a stranger in Polynesian Mary’s.
In 1974, he meets Alice and they move to New York City together.
In 1985, he proposes to Alice, who says no. Who says yes. Who says—

24 items (more or less) from the A.M. collection, spanning 1974 to 1985 (more or less). Presented with their accompanying manuscript.
I don’t have enough words to describe how this fic blew me away
Fandom: All For the Game
i'd promise you anything for another shot at life by orionauriga/ @orionauriga
Let’s go back. Andrew would like that. All this time claiming regret is a foreign concept and here it hesitates on the tip of his tongue — this, the one time he would say such a thing: if I could go back and change it, I would. Maybe then his brother would still be here. — Just because Aaron died on the upstairs bathroom floor doesn’t mean he’s entirely gone. At least, not to Andrew.

Legally speaking, for a few hours, Aaron Minyard is dead in that car.
Luther Hemmick, the next-of-kin to one Tilda Minyard, 35, pronounced dead in a car accident, is contacted by the relevant authorities. He says, Tilda and Aaron had left our house in an emotional state. He says, Aaron was a good boy. He says, What a tragedy.
Yeah, Aaron thinks. Real fucking sob story.

Andrew dies in the car crash too. Aaron picks up the pieces.
I still haven’t recovered from this fic if I’m being honest

Slowly but surely, Suguru builds his boiling pot in the yawning mouth between ideal and reality.
/// an unconventional format Getō character study with some reader interactive elements. Diverges from canon after Shibuya.
Not even exaggerating a little bit when I call this one of the best things I’ve ever read in my life

As always, thank you to all you fanfiction writers out there for blessing us readers with your wonderful stories. Cheers to a new year of fanfiction reading!

i heard vampires !!!!! honestly would love to see your work that isn't decipher ! especially vampiresss
i aint gonna lie it’s not haikyuu 😂 tbh it would be more of an original piece, but it kinda fits well with this enhypen fanfic i had in mind.
so if yall don’t know a thing about enhypen, here’s the gist: enhypen is a 7 member boy group under belift lab which is a subsidiary of hybe entertainment. their whole group concept/lore is vampires in yearning, and so in my opinion utilizing them for inspo was perfect.
My ult bias is one of the members, Jake. He has also been inspo for me in writing deciphered hehe. But during one of their comebacks, Dark Blood, he went blonde, and ultimately was giving a luciferian “fallen angel” look which INSPIRED ME SO MUCH!!! oh my god. So in this story I might release within the next month or so, I have it that the main antagonist/love interest in the fanfic is actually the devil (Lucifer perhaps) and the worst representation of evil. He materializes himself into a vampire corporeally when he consumes souls, and also as a normal human when in disguise. So in reality, he has 3 forms: the vampire, the human, and as a demon (non-corporeal).
In his human form, I had him look like Jake from Enhypen with black hair.
(2nd pic is giving Brother Jakeeeee lmao)
And in his vampire form, I had him look like Jake… but with blonde hair, specifically from the Dark Blood Era.
(DAYUM i’d invite him in the house lmao)
And his fallen angel/demon form doesn’t have a body, aka non-corporeal.
I have it that y/n meets both his forms, but she doesn’t recognize the vampire form of him. hehehe. In most retellings of vampire folklore tho, the monster is hideous, rotting, and basically “undead”. not necessarily the edward cullen effect, where they’re sexy and sparkling. but in my sort of retelling, the vampire in this case is a demon, in fact THE DEVIL, Lucifer: and one symbolic analysis about Lucifer is that he was the pure embodiment of beauty. He was gorgeous in his angelic form. Why wouldn’t he be in his vampire and human form as well? Even in his demonic form, to manipulate humans, he is able to present himself in their eyes as a beautiful creature. This is exactly what he does in the story I’m currently cookin up right now lol
Anyways. I’ve recently been inspired by several movies (but in my opinion, i’ve always had an affinity towards darker occult stuff, so it’s been a life long interest) such as the Nun, The Pope’s Exorcist, and recently, Nosferatu! So I’ve always had this particular idea in my mind to write this story, but I executed it poorly before, and now I’m expanding on that concept.
It’s a smut too, don’t worry!! I just have a strong inspiration and motivation to write this, even if it has been a work in progress for several years. Anyways I hope this piques interest :) I love love loveeeee the archetype of vampires and what it represents in literature

preview of “four of hoards,” a haikyuu omegaverse fantasy au where i go fuck ass wild with the concept of dragon hoards and the societal implications of biological kleptomania over everything 😤💯
also it’s kiyoomi x kenma. saving the hades & persephone defense for another post
⚔️🪽
Hatchlings are only told fairy tales with bad endings.
The stories vary in bewitchment and severity, but the message remains the same: doing this thing will result in that thing, don’t do this or you’ll get what’s coming to you.
Frightening the young is a surefire way to control them all the way up to presentation and beyond. Kiyoomi recalls one story about a dragon that spent too much time on the ground after falling in love with a lily trader. The flowers she carried offered colors not found in the sky and she lured the dragon from the clouds with a plea for quicker travel to the next village.
She was so sweet, needing medicine for her father, and she was the first person to not fear the dragon.
The dragon never again wanted to taste the rain before it falls or be the first thing the sunrise touches. Her smile alone could sustain him.
When the brave little lily settled on dragon-back and he took her high up to show her how weightless and wonderful she made him feel, the rush was too much for her. She fell quicker than the dragon could follow, for not even love could break the roots that bound the woman to the earth.
He dove harder and faster as the ground drew closer and when she crashed against garden stones, he did the same – burying himself in the earth alongside her.
The only truth in the legend is that the elders who passed down the story did not approve of dragons mating outside their own species. Kiyoomi faced very little resistance from his people when he overthrew those leathery hags.
As a king living in terribly close proximity to his people, Kiyoomi has come to acknowledge some advantages of fairy tales. Hatchlings are downright feral when bedtime threatens to end their fun. The whole mountain would suffer if a spooky parable didn’t lure the hatchlings to their nests. Ghost stories make the children huddle tight against their parents and far away from Kiyoomi. Thus, he is an enthusiastic supporter of anecdotes about goblins who hunt down noises made after dark or spirits that tickle you with chilly fingers should your arm hang out of the nest.
Kiyoomi would love to meet those monsters and bow deeply for the sake of his rescued sleep schedule. The well-rested sires and carriers would also offer their bountiful thanks.
Kiyoomi never met his sire, and his carrier wasn’t present when he was young. Her sparse visits were not inspiring, though one of her narratives lingered with Kiyoomi when she herself would not.
“Do not fly too close to the sun,” she warned. “You cannot fly as high as your instincts will have you believe. You are just as susceptible to exhaustion, hunger, and heartbreak as the rest of the world. With life comes bright, golden lies you will want to chase. Remember that the only gold worth flying after is the gold in your hoard – for that is what makes the sun rise and fall in a world of dragons.
Even you can burn, Kiyoomi, and you will if you don’t guard your heart.”
What a cruel thing to tell a child born with wings.

Hi! I’m here to ask if you used any specific resources for the Japanese folklore in Paranormality and Summer of Monsters?
nothing I can cite as the best unfortunately. It was a lot of wikipedia, yokai.com, and a few other recurring sites. Sometimes there were video essays off youtube. i fcking love video essays. Lots of the time I was basing it off my pre existing knowledge, or extrapolation based on my own analysis.
Part of the fun of Paranormality is that the myths are based more on popular perception and not so much on any "truth" or "original tale" so I was able to get away without being very academically rigerous. For example, in the most recent spider chapter, the entire premise of these women being scapegoats isnt something I got off a source, by just my own understanding of how stories like that develop. Same with Oikawa's analysis of the bear stories always just being bears! Just cool things I noticed. Tendou's monster form is based off a chimpanzee and I can literally only barely remember reading one site that said something about how satori "were probably just aggressive monkeys"
Oh! and the Night Parade concept has a few different origins, but it took the form it did due to the fact that many yokai appear in writings called stuff like "On the Hyakki Yagyō" which are catalogues of yokai that sometimes dont appear in ANY other written records, except by name in these old writings. Very interesting.
oddly, Ushijima's sinistrality had me doing the most research. Partially this was due to a damn near feral state I was put into due to a haikyuu-bu extra that showed Shirabu asking Ushijima to touch Tendou with his left hand to "see what would happen" and partially just due to left handed history being so weird and fascinating (had me reading NY Times articles from the 80s)
sorry i lost track of the initial question somewhere in there. wikipedia and yokai.com are probably the true answers. hope this is satisfying in any way otherwise yell at me and ill try again

Tobio Kageyama: The King of the Court (Essay)
One of the most exciting concepts in Haikyuu is something set up in its 4th season. The concept that certain athletes are just born to play volleyball. Players that feel like they need to be on the court just to survive. The concept of the monster generation.
Of the 6 members of the monster generation, one stands out in particular. A player of unmatched skill, but also someone who fails to treat others with any respect. A player that is shunned by his own team.
Tobio Kageyama is undoubtedly one of the most talented players in Haikyuu, and yet despite his immense skill, we’re reminded time and time again of his shortcomings, of his failure.
So what happens when this tyrant king is dethroned? Does he crumble under defeat, or rise again transformed?
Wait wait wait wait wait. Let’s quickly get something out of the way because it will save me so much wo- I mean because it’s important to the story! Yeah… Let’s go with that.
The words “Genius” and “Monster”.
According to the show, a “Genius” is someone born with a supreme talent for volleyball.
A “Monster” is someone that realises this talent to become a truly world-class player.
Therefore the “Monster Generation” is a collection of these world-class players.
Now then, is Kageyma a genius?
Yes. Without a doubt.
But is he a monster? Welllllll… That’s a tough one. Because he has so so so many flaws.
His journey doesn’t start off on the best path. He had extraordinary talent yes, but lacked a crucial skill that any player needs to be truly great. A skill that’s honestly really basic.
Teamwork.
Volleyball is played with seven players. Good teamwork isn’t optional, it's a necessity. So how can anyone be a genius without this skill? Are we looking at a failed setter in the making? Or the early stages of a monster?
Part I - The Tyrant
Kageyama’s nickname, “King of the Court”, wasn’t just a title. It was a testament to his relentless pursuit of victory, even at the expense of team harmony.
But what does “King of the Court” mean exactly?
Sure, we know it was given to him because he played volleyball like a tyrant. Where his obsession with winning overshadowed his responsibilities to his teammates. A style of play that said, “It’s about me”.
Let’s compare Kageyam’s initial phase with his old teammate, and current captain of Aoba Johsai, Oikawa Tooru.
Oikawa, with his charismatic leadership and empathetic setting style, seems to embody the ideal setter. And yet, he himself admits to feeling threatened by Kageyama’s sheer talent. Interesting, isn’t it?
Despite being on a team with a player like this, Kageyama could not have been more different. He constantly berated his teammates for not living up to his standards and for not keeping up with him, which lead to him being given the infamous nickname.
He was a tyrannical, egocentric king, who would never settle for anything less than perfection from his teammates, and who disregarded anyone that wasn’t able to keep up with him.
But I mean, be honest. If you were by far the best in your team and everyone around you was dog poo by comparison, you’d get pretty annoyed too.
And you can probably guess what happened next. His teammates lost faith in him and his coaches lamented his wasted potential.
So what did Kageyma do?
Well, he did what any twelve-year-old would do. He never wanted to feel that way again, so after joining Karasuno, he changed.
Part II - The Servant
Kageyama never wanted to feel lonely again. And, he didn’t.
He wanted to make sure his teammates were always there for him. And, they were.
Karasuno are without a doubt the perfect team for Kageyma. They tought him the importance of team work. He learnt to let go of his ego. He became someone that rarely ever criticised his team, giving them the exact sets they wanted.
He did his best to perfect a new quick. Yes, he did it so that he could improve. But he also did it to help his team, to help Hinata.
So how did he do this exactly? How did he learn to be a more selfless setter?
Well, he went to the person, who in his mind, was already a perfect example of that ideal.
After this meeting. Kageyama gets a new philosophy.
He learns that he is there in service for his team, not the other way around. It’s his duty to give his teammates the exact sets that they ask for.
He becomes a selfless setter.
Surely that’s a good thing, right?
Well, Kageyama definitely thought so. But that all changed during a certain training camp where he met a certain player.
Atsumu is one of the best high-school setters in the country, and Kageyama knows this. So what does it mean for him, when Atsumu tells him that everything he has been doing is wrong?
Does this mean he’s still a failure?
This dilemma nags at Kageyama. He’s just been playing with some of the best players in the country, and when he returns to Karasuno, while his teammates are certainly good, there is an obvious difference, and Kageyama notices this, and eventually, he snaps.
Part III - The True King
The problem with what Kageyama has been doing up until now is that he was so afraid of history repeating itself, that he overcompensated.
He always gave his teammates the exact sets that they wanted, and in doing so, reinforced their bad habits.
He knew he could push them higher, push them further, push them to be better, but that scared him. What if they hated him for it?
And that was his dilemma.
He wants to win, not just for himself, but for his team too. But how does he do this? What if he ended up becoming the old tyrannical king again?
Fortunately for Kageyama, there was someone on the team that knew the value of the King of the Court.
Kageyama had always been egotistical and prideful. But that’s just the nature of a talented athlete. Unfortunately for him, his communication was poor, and it resulted in a rather traumatic past.
But at Karasuno, he was given the greatest weapon a setter could ask for. Not a super fast decoy, or a powerful spiker, or an amazing libero.
What he found at Karasuno was a team that supports him, one that will make sure he was never alone.
Conclusion
So, the question remains, is Kageyama a failed setter?
Well, the answer is not too different from real life.
Humans make mistakes. That’s a given. What’s important is how we learn from them.
In the same way, perhaps Kageyama’s journey to becoming a successful setter is paved with lessons learned from his failures. Perhaps being a so-called “failed setter” is a necessary step towards greatness.
There’s no doubt that Hinata wouldn’t be the player he is without Kageyama. But I’d argue the opposite is also true.
Hinata teaches Kageyama that what he’s been ashamed of, can be something that he can be proud of.
He learns that there will always be mistakes and setbacks, but his teammates will always support him.
And so, he knows exactly the kind of setter he needs to be. It might not be what works for Oikawa, and it might not even be what works for Atsumu.
But, for him, it’s perfect.
And with this, Kageyama goes from a tyrant, to a servant, to a king at last.

Do you mind if I ask your top 10 favorite characters (can be male or female) from all of the media that you loved (can be anime/manga, books, movies or tv series)? And why do you love them? Sorry if you've answered this question before.....Thanks...
question for me? about my interests? someone wants to hear my rambling?
i don't think i can rank these characters as i don't know what criteria to use for ranking, but i can mention these as characters that i like more than the rest
Bokuto Kotaro from Haikyuu
Dude's a literal ray of sunshine. I love everything about him, he's so silly and funny but reently it was revealed that he has a university degree! I love that for him, and I love that he gets to live his life happily doing what he loves (volleyball) BokuAka has been my main source of serotonin when i was struggling with depression
2. Yaguchi Yatora from Blue Period
Boy's a complete disaster, that's true. But he's such a relatable disaster. I don't necessarily kin him, Yotasuke is the one I kin (he just like me fr), but I've found quite a few similarities i have with Yatora, and he's just so cute and scrunkly, I hope Yamaguchi will give him a happy ending away from this depression he lives right now
3. Johann Liebert from Monster
Hands down the best villain in any story I've read, including books. He's incredible
4. Kishibe Rohan from JoJo
He's spiteful, he slays, he draws too, idk dude is my fav side character in jojo, maybe my favourite in all series, he's an asshole and i love that for him
5. Gilbert from Artiste
This manga is literally so little known, it's a slice of life abt a french cook in paris. Gilbert might come off as weak and such, but he is a good guy, he is more capable than he is giving himself credit for
6. Yukimi from Nabari no ou
Dad, cat dad, malewife, kind, love him dearly, scrunkly or babygirl or something. Him <3
7. Ramsay Bolton from Game of Thrones
Crazy psychopath that affected me so deeply it became my personality (i am bolton for this reason)
8. Kazuki Kurusu from Buddy daddies
he gets on the list idc, his malewifeness and kind demenour have enticed me, he's everything i love in a fictional man
9. Saeran Choi from Mystic Messenger
hm, this is rather a sweet memory from years ago, i no longer play mystic messenger, but i loved this game so much when i was 17-18 and saeran was my favourite (always on the traumatised malewife huh)
10.Mr Villain from Mr Villain's day off
i guess? idk i just like stories abt adults enjoying the little joys of life... idk
it was actually ahrder to choose than i thought bcs i cannot say i love, love stuff, that i adore and idoliwe it, it's rather the concepts that i like, like i love the ice guy and the cool girl but i cannot say that either of them gives me brainrot, or that i adore hgsn as one of my main interests but i cannot say that yoshiki is my fav character although i love him dearly as my son, hm
thank you for the ask ~~~~~
