You were probably already asked this regarding your au. But would the reveal of Scratch’s human self play into your Brighton Bay AU in some way or is Scratch one hundred percent a sea beast? (I saw that one post you wrote and I can guess the ‘forget Molly’ thing would NOT show up in the AU.)

This is something I've thought about a lot, especially now after the series finale, I'm so happy you asked me this /gen

The answer to "is scratch 100% a sea beast" is both yes and no, let me explain

Sea beasts have the ability to curse humans to become sea beasts themselves (hence why Molly can become a beast whenever she touches ocean water, Geoff only half cursed her) and usually they only do it as a last ditch effort to spite beast killers (I mean why wouldn't you want to say one last "fuck you" to the person who barged into your house and stabbed you repeatedly?)

To say that Scratch killed a sea beast to get cursed is an overstatement. Perhaps I'll make a fic about that one day

I've actually been brainstorming a way to implement his past into the AU since season 2 started. Just spoilers in advance, he can't ever become human again, those curses are permanent. (This isn't even to spite The End, they'd been permanent since me and a friend decided they were a thing)

I imagine after finding out who he was, he'd reunite with Adia eventually, travel the world with her for a while, then come back for a surprise stay at Brighton for a few weeks before going on their next great adventure. Who knows, maybe they'd even bring Molly along on one?

OKAY so. idk if you'd seen it but this is what i made like a couple weeks into the game

and i STAND BY IT!! although one caveat is that this is an early-game state as for instance Shadowheart's and Lae'zel's relationship gets more complex and mutually appreciative later on. But let's go thru this one by one

so the initial relationship between SH and LZ is a PRIME example of kismesitude. their hate and attraction is almost fateful in nature, considering their narrative opposition and hidden layers of similarity. It even comes to a tipping point and they try to kill each other and the player has to come in and auspistice. I do see the potential for <3/<3< vacillation later on or even either a stable <3 or <3< relationship as they settle their differences

Lae'zel is also in a dire need of a moirail and of course the player can fill that role but just among these characters? It would have to be someone she respects enough and who is willing to curb her aggression. Shadowheart would be the best candidate but they want to fuck each other too much for it to work. Karlach would work BUT K also needs a moirail to cool her down sometimes and Lae'zel simply is not that!! I've had several comments saying it should be Gale but I honestly don't know if she respects him enough. sorry. maybe there is pale beauty there im not seeing feel free to prove me wrong

SH<3Karlach is clear and self-explanatory they would simply be in a passionate, healthy relationship. Karlach's moirallegiance with Wyll could also potentially veer into <3 territory but I honestly see them as BESTIESSSS the most, hey're like, queerplatonic to me. they respect and appreciate each other, neither of them really needs the 'stop murdering people' aspect of moirallegiance but Wyll can cool Karlach down if she gets too emotional and I think Karlach could teach Wyll to love himself. Millions of brave Wyllach warriors out there saying it better I'm sure.

Astarion<3/<3< Wyll is literally just what that post said. They have a poetic, almost fairytale-like quality to the duality that comes from how each of them relates to their identity as a 'monster'. The'd be at odds morally of course, but could fix each other eventually, and of course they would be attracted to each other but I think Wyll would think he SHOULDN'T be into an immoral vampire, and Astarion would be like I don't ACTUALLY like him im just like...objectifying him (not true), contributing to the pitched aspect of their relationship

And Shadowheart <> Astarion is just so close to my heart. They are a set of airpods to me. SH has both a capacity of meanness and manipulation that Astarion can appreciate and the boundless compassion that he needs. they are siblings, they alre mlm/wlw solidarity. They would support each other fully without any judgement on what the other has done and also be such cunts to each other. They are mean to people together. argue with the wall honestly

For the Next in Line AU, how often does Molly switch for her regular ghost form to her apprentice form, and is there an inbetween?

I uh, I was not expecting to get an ask about this AU (O_O') (tho feel free to send 'em if you have any other questions). Mostly because I get the feeling I gave too little information about it when I made that post. (In this situations, I either barf the whole plot, or I compress stuff so much that barely anything makes any sense at all. I tried for the middle ground, but I'm pretty sure I failed 😮‍💨🤷🏻‍♂️)

I'm still shaking a bit 😂

WARNING: I'm about to ramble, so some of the information might be a bit disjointed

Anyway, to answer your question:

On a daily basis after accepting The Chairman's offer (she has lessons to attend to, about stuff like the Ghost World's History and its laws, paranormal threats & imbalance and how to deal with them, etc. The Ruler position is no joke: they have to care for a lot of souls), with her soul going to the Ghost World while her body, which is a lot more self sufficient than in canon, goes to school. And no, there's no in between form.

But the tall fiery ghost you're (probably) thinking about is not Molly's apprentice form

This is Molly's apprentice form:

The most nondescript ghost you could imagine

A white sheet (a special garment simply known as The White Sheet (I'm bad at coming up with names) which both let's everyone know the ghost wearing it is the potential future leader of the Ghost World, and keeps their actual identity a secret, preventing anyone from learning the pupil's identity unless they tell that person themselves (this is mostly to give them the option of having a private life). It also gives a boost to the apprentice's power, making it reach it's peak faster than it would've done naturally, but by no means increasing the amount of power per say, all while keeping said power from getting out of control by keeping the apprentice from accessing most of it. At least, until they overpower it, losing their pupil form as a consequence, but also gaining their leader form (which still hides their identity). Molly achieves this a lot sooner than what The Chairman anticipated (around a literal century), due to an incident involving a lot of flaming skeletons, a panicking swoopy haired boy, and a bony jerk (but this getting long enough as it is, so I'll talk about that in another occasion), and with it came an unforeseen issue. That being that you can't really fit more than around five souls inside the same living body without said body getting permanent sequels, and anything above ten will cause the body to straight up explode. Molly's soul is currently (as in, at the time they discover the issue) as potent as a hundred average human souls. Because it is her body, it has a built in resistance to her own intensity, but there's a limit to it. This means that Molly goes from having the option of splitting herself whenever she feels like it, to needing to remain separate for at least long enough for her body to recover from the strain that containing her own soul puts it through. Unless she's fine with incinerating herself from the inside out 😐🤷🏻‍♂️ (my train of thought has officially derailed. Wrre the hell was I?)

Ah right: nondescript lookin' ghost, covered with a white sheet, wearing three shackles (that drag them straight to their mentor if they go scare mode while in pupil form. They are training to be leader of the Ghost World, and they should be a role model, so they must have a good reason to do that unless they wanna get in trouble for abusing their (tentative (being a pupil, or even getting a leader form, doesn't guarantee becoming ruler. Lord Doom would know)) position), black, empty sockets with white lights for pupils, and no remarkable facial features.

Casting my Molly thoughts onto you

Sometimes I think about Molly singing tunes, mainly ones he's heard from Toya in particular. Imagine him just humming melodies to sooth Yasha's troubled thoughts. And imagine him on watch just quietly singing that one melody he heard from Toya when he first met her. And like the Nein falling soundly asleep to Molly's singing that it becomes a routine for them to fall asleep to it.

AHH YES!! I'll never recover from the fact that it's singing that first breaks that all consuming Emptiness always gnawing away at him. Molly is wandering alone in the cursed Savlirwood, lost, haunted--unable to even feel fear when confronted by a growling bear. He just feels numb to all of it. Until this moment when there's a note, a song, and it brings him back to himself a bit.

He hears Toya's song, and he can't help but follow.

It's the fact that Molly was so drawn in by this bittersweet song. It's Molly feeling this wistful longing when he hears those lines, this aching soul who just crawled out of his own grave, still almost stranded in this liminal space between life and death, still so lost and haunted. "The moon shown bright on that haunted night/As the dead sang out their song/Now's your time to drink and dance/For soon we shall all be gone." It's the way Molly looks so vulnerable, so helpless and lonely, Toya just can't bear to abandon him--

And of course, the circus takes him in--takes care of him. It was a song that saved him, much like how the Moonweaver first greets Tealeaf's wounded soul with a song. Sang for him a story of her own home--a tale of a king brought back from the dead, a promise of what's to come and a chance to be born again--

It's just so sweet to me that Molly's soul, once so shattered and lonely, always found comfort in music. His loved ones soothing him with a soft song. And I can definitely see him singing with the Nein too. I mean, we know that he used to do it all the time. Whenever he was risking his life to save others, or out for a bit of vigilante justice--he took to singing as he ran off into the night. And I'm not surprised that Toya's song seems to be a favorite of his for "choir practice."

And he does sing a bit of a fun little drunken song in that one break in episode. But I do so love the thought of Molly getting the chance for more "choir practice" on the Nein's adventures, just breaking out in song as they make a daring escape--or more likely--complete fools of themselves--

But the thought of Molly singing around a campfire for his family is even better. Molly singing Yasha's favorite songs from the circus when she's staring off into a storm, wrapping her up in his arms and holding her close. Both of them feeling a little less Empty and alone in the world. Molly singing softly when Caleb tosses and turns from another nightmare, singing until he finally falls back into a restful sleep. Mollymauk teaching Jester that beautiful melody Toya sang at their last show together--the one she eventually sang before Lucien, desperately trying to reach Molly--

I really just love the headcannon that Molly will sing for the Nein the way Toya and Sehanine used to do to comfort him. And I love the thought that, as Kingsley, he takes up choir practice again. And when he finds out Yasha plays the harp? Maybe one day he asks her to play for him. And she strums a few notes that are so terribly familiar, so bittersweet. And when he starts to sing along, he still remembers every word--

One last thing: when Lucien confesses he set the family caravan on fire to kill his parents--and the puppet they made out of his dead brother--he mourns how much he misses the little plays they used to put on. The songs. "My parents looked after the music, and we children would put on little plays. Little to others, I suppose, but grand to us. Yes, grand."

It's the unbearable pain of what comes after. The realization that his family's days of song and dance are forever over. "After a while I couldn't let it go on, couldn't look at myself or live with myself, so I burned down the caravan with all three of them inside, took my sister, and that was that...No more little songs. No more farces.'"

It's the way a hag tries to tell Lucien that the only way he'll ever be happy again is if she carves out his soul, turns him into her empty, mindless puppet. "My beautiful boy...I had hoped to make you mine one day. What a perfect specimen you would have been. Oh, how you would have been merry with laughter and dance..."

And then a part of Lucien is born again as Molly, gets to experience the joy of falling in love with music and dancing all over again. Escapes the hollow Emptiness Lucien always feared awaited him. Feeling so free for the first time in the longest time, finding comfort in singing songs with a family who loves him so dearly--
