i am aware this is Very niche but . still . malevolent rain world au

[warning that, like canon, there Is child death. unlike canon, there is Neglectful Parenting and awful parents still around and controlling life even into adulthood]

our players here start out as john, arthur, and the king. john and arthur are scugs, and the king is an iterator.

john is a black slugcat with yellow eyes.

arthur is a light brown slugcat with white eyes.

the king, also known as singing winds that shatter, is a gold, black, and grey iterator, located up and to the left of industrial complex (in a region that doesn't exist in the game).

john, as a tiny pup, was left at the feet of the puppetform of the king. his parent intended to come right back, after getting food. his parent was not fast enough. his parent drowned in the rain. he was left to be raised by the supercomputer he was abandoned in. now, as an adult scug, he does singing winds that shatter's bidding.

(note on their names; john is john, due to being named by an iterator, but arthur is technically more like arr-urr, a yelp-growl of a name)

arthur, after his daughter's death, is wandering. he's currently in outskirts. it's been cycles and cycles, but still he wanders aimlessly. he is in this room. he is crouched at the edge of the right side upper.

john comes barreling through, and crashes into arthur. they both tumble off the edge. they're snarling and hissing at each other, but then the world begins to shudder, and they both make a mad dash for the shelter. they make it in just as the rain starts to pour down and the shelter rumbles shut, and they both press themselves into opposite corners before going to sleep.

john hadn't had enough food, before the rain came. he's starving, his fur has lost its inky black sheen, he's shaky and trembling and he can't catch his breath. he's slow. he's too cold. and yet, arthur keeps turning and waiting for him to catch up. he can't figure out why. does arthur want something from him? singing winds kept him alive so that he could act as his paws in the outside world.

they hunt batflies. arthur bites the head off of one and tosses it over to john. john spits, i don't want your pity. they curl up to sleep in opposite corners of the shelter.

they're into industrial before it changes. they're glaring at each other, arguing in flurried chirps and hisses and slugsign, and john walks right into range of a white lizard he didn't see.

and then arthur grabs a spear off the ground on the other side of the room and FLINGS it at the lizard and it hits true, grazing john in the process, but pinning the lizard against the wall. he's grabbing john's hand and dragging him halfway across the room before he even recovers from the stun.

john? john has No Idea how to deal with that. traveling with him, sure, he can see that, lowers the chances a predator will get arthur, but saving him? he must want something.

he doesn't.

john has no idea how to handle that.

(miscellaneous fun fact: most slugcats know slugsign, for when they're hiding from a predator that can't see them but can hear them. john doesn't. arthur starts teaching him, after he tries to sign stay put to john who immediately disregards it.)

they don't go back to singing winds. john gets all the way to the outer edges of the superstructure before arthur realizes what he's doing and Digs His Heels In.

they're in shaded citadel when they find a pup. john curls around the poor thing without thinking, because he remembers missing his parent and warm fur around him even before he opened his eyes. arthur bolts.

john tells the kid to stay put before going after arthur and finding him only a few rooms away, staring blankly into the dark. tragic backstory comes out. john fumbles his way through coaxing arthur back to the shelter with the kid. just in time, because the rain is coming.

they can do better, this time. they can do better
