Read the Differences Between ICSI and TESA
Tumblr media
Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) and Testicular Sperm Aspiration (TESA) are both fertility treatments, but they serve different purposes and involve distinct processes.
ICSI is a laboratory procedure used during in vitro fertilization (IVF). It involves directly injecting a single sperm into an egg to facilitate fertilization. ICSI is typically used when there are issues with sperm quality, quantity, or motility, ensuring a higher chance of fertilization compared to traditional IVF methods.
TESA, on the other hand, is a surgical procedure used to retrieve sperm directly from the testicles. It is performed on men who have obstructive azoospermia (blockages preventing sperm release) or non-obstructive azoospermia (low sperm production). During TESA, a needle is inserted into the testicle to extract sperm, which can then be used in ICSI.
In summary, ICSI is an egg fertilization technique, while TESA is a sperm retrieval method. Both are often used together when male infertility is a factor in assisted reproductive treatments.
