Here’s some great news I got via Facebook where it's spreading like wildfire—at least within my social graphs. Quotes from and links to reporting are below.
Allison Babka this afternoon on citybeat.com:
The new iteration of the "97X Modern Rock 500 countdown" will be broadcast on Inhailer Radio's website and app as well as on WGUC 90.9-HD3 in Cincinnati. The countdown will air in five 100-lap segments May 22-26 and will be repeated May 27-29.
The countdown had previously aired on 97X between 1988 and 2003 and continued on WOXY.com from 2005 to 2009.
According to a press release, 30 former WOXY DJs will host the broadcast, including many who were on the air in the 1980s and 1990s. The broadcast also will serve as the culmination of the 97X-focused podcast Rumblings from the Big Bush, hosted by former WOXY DJs Dave Tellmann and Damian Dotterweich.
Writing on wvxu.org, Tana Weingartner notes:
The timing is special because its marks 40 years since the station signed on.
Both of those reports lean heavily on a press release that I can't actually find on its own web page. Updated March 21, 2023: The press release was posted on 97xbam.com on March 10.
The 97X - Rumblings from the Big Bush podcast is at woxy.podbean.com or whereever you get your podcasts, with a companion site at 97xbam.com. It’s definitely worth the time to listen.
Also in May, the long-anticipated book, The Future of Rock and Roll: 97X WOXY and the Fight for True Independence by Robin James will be published by UNC Press.

Give and Take - Chapter 5
"Travis is here." you respond, grimacing in his direction.
She turns to look over her shoulder.
" ... and he's coming this way."
Your ex proved to be one of then worst people on the planet. While that is the consensus amongst most couples who have broken up, you like to believe he takes the cake.
He quickly makes it to your table in a few strides with a smug look on his face.
"Hey guys. Long time, no see."
He leans his arm on the back of your chair, looking down at you.
"Can I help you?" you question with a look of disgust on your face.
"Just being friendly, Anna."
"For once ..." you quip. "I'm trying to have a nice night with my friends if you don't mind, thanks."
He looks around the table as if waiting for someone to beg him to stay. Of course, no one does considering your past with him. Your friends were never his friends despite what he thinks.
"Nice to see no one has changed." He mutters.
Putting his hands up to surrender, he backs away from the table.
"Jeez ... tough crowd. I'll be seeing you around." he directs at you with a wink.
With a roll of your eyes, you quietly apologize to the table for the interruption and motion for the waitress to bring the check.
"No, no. Please, it's my treat." Joe insists, taking the check and handing over his credit card.
"I just want to get out of here." you say and the rest of the group thanks Joe for dinner.
"He's a tool Anna. Forget about it!" Tana says, caressing your back on the car ride home.
"I'm fine ... just annoyed is all."
You pinch the bridge of your nose as you feel a stress headache coming on.
"He always does this. Pops up out of the blue to remind me how miserable our relationship was."
"He must be looking for me to beat his ass again." your brother comments from the row behind, garnering a defeated laugh from you.
"Who was that girl?" Tana wonders aloud.
"I don't know, and I don't care." You reply, watching the nightlife whizz by the window to distract yourself.
--
Travis was a class A narcissist. You had met him for the first time at 15 years old when you attended the Grammy's after party. You had swept the rap category with your debut album.
As you awkwardly made small talk with your music idols, Travis had approached you, offering to sneak you some alcohol. Taking him up on his offer, you and him sipped champagne behind some bushes. He was charming, he made you laugh, and he was incredibly handsome.
You didn't meet again for 2 years, spotting him at a night club one night with your friends. From there, you both were inseparable.
3 long years of dating turned into the most tumultuous experience of your life. The honeymoon phase was far over just a couple months in, but you were convinced that if you love someone, you make it work no matter the circumstances.
It had been 10 months since your very public breakup, and running into him was not getting any easier.
--
It seemed everyone had caught on to the fact that your mood was soiled for the rest of the night. So, the group went their separate ways when the town car dropped you off at your house.
You let the hot water run down your neck and shoulders for a long while, hoping it would relieve some of the tension your ex had caused.
While you felt more comfortable in your sweats, you still weren't totally relaxed.
When you go downstairs, you see Tana passed out on one side of the couch and Joe watching TV.
"Where'd everyone go?" you ask as you approach the living room. Pausing the movie he was watching, Joe turns to look at you.
"Ja'Marr went to meet some friends at the club, Nick went home, and your brother invited a girl over." he explains with a shrug.
Nodding your head with pursed lips, you sit down on the couch next to Joe.
He resumes the movie for a while, you both just silently enjoying Pootie Tang.
"Are you OK?" he asks after a long while.
Taking a deep breath, you shrug.
"Yeah I guess."
You bite your inner cheek and make eye contact. He looks at you intently, noticing the glaze over your eyes from tears that could spill any second.
"I don't even like his music anyway." Joe says, drawing a weak smile from you.
"He's terrible." you say, shaking your head.
A beat of silence goes by.
"I can't say that I didn't see the gossip in the media when you guys broke up. I don't know how guys can just dog girls like that." Joe says.
"Me neither." You mutter. "Took me a long time to figure it out."
You meet Joe's eyes as he nods. You can feel tears rush to your eyes and the last thing you wanted to do was cry in front of him. You didn't even feel sad about the situation anymore, just incredibly exhausted by having to rehash it.
Biting your lower lip, you swallow hard to keep from looking like you were ready to burst into tears.
"I think I'm just gonna put myself to bed." You say, getting up from the couch. "Goodnight."
"Night." He replies. When you're gone, Joe is too lost in his thoughts to realize Tana was awake.
"There is some serious tension there." She says, snapping Joe out of his trance.
"What do you mean?"
"You were totally 2 seconds away from kissing." She says, matter-of-factly.
Shaking his head with a furrowed brow Joe denies it.
"If you say so." She says, definitely not convinced.
"He hit her you know." She says, causing Joe's head to whip around.
"What?"
"Right here in the house. They had a fight and he punched her and threw her down the stairs. Him and AJ got into a brawl, the cops came ... all that." She explains.
"Are you kidding me? That's insane!" Joe replies, flabbergasted.
"Yeah, we couldn't believe it. All because she confronted him about cheating on her." She scoffs and shakes her head.
"She disappeared back home to New York for like 4 months and we didn't hear from her. She was really fucked up over the whole situation. Then randomly she just showed up again, happy as hell." Tana continues.
"Do you think she's OK now?" He asks.
"She's stronger than me, that's for sure. I think she just needed a break from LA. She's definitely back to her old self, which we're all happy about, but I do think she should branch out and find someone new." Tana says, whipping the blanket off of herself.
"Welp, I'm going up to my room. See ya in the morning Joey boy."
Joe spends the next few minutes staring off into space in silence, going over what Tana had told him. Call it mid-Western, mama's boy values, or just plain morals, but he was furious that someone could disrespect a woman like Travis had disrespected Anna.
He couldn't imagine hurting Anna, or any woman for that matter intentionally. She was different, nothing like he had ever encountered before.
He was attracted to her confidence and success, her kindness and generosity, and their difference in upbringing and culture intrigued him.
He put himself to bed that night fantasizing about the ways he would treat Anna differently than her ex. This somehow aroused him and he ignored the urge to touch himself, at least for tonight.
One step at a time. He tells himself.
He wanted whatever might transpire between he and Anna to be organic.
Friends first. He thinks.
Whatever distrust she had in men romantically, he was determined to fix that.

Tana reposted Cody’s story of them in the podcast studio so they obviously filmed an episode. I think this was filmed the day after the bachelor finale or maybe two days after. Do you guys think Jeff will go along and say he found the one or just admit that he’s had his fun but this isn’t gonna work out? Pretty sure he’s gonna rub it in Tana’s face regardless
I’m sure he’ll try to rub it in Tana’s face and beat around the bush about how he really feels about it.

Berakhot 3b: 29. "The Violin."
A new Object is created in this section, that of the Tana Issachar, to Hire the Hired Man, which means to employ male prostitutes.
"The verb תנה (tana) means to hire. The connotation of this verb seems disproportionately often negative, and usually having to do with prostitution. But it should be noted that even though nowadays we recoil in horror at the thought of prostitution, back in Biblical times the prostitute was one of the few social archetypes.
In the same way that a king could be known as a father (of all his people), and the nation as the mother (hence motherland), and the citizens as the sons, so a certain specific society could be known as a prostitute.
Obviously, this could be a society with many sons but typically no husband, that means no central government. Instead, this sort of society sways every which way the gettings are gotten, with no social identity or formal legislation or even military protection."
This process is strongly identified with King David who turned Prince Jonathon into a prostitute and used him as an onramp to the Crown of the Kingdom of Israel and through his apparent choice of delicacies and affinity with the military prostituted to the whole damn thing for the sake of defeating the Philistines and providing the people of Israel who at that time had no home to call their own.
Moses led the people to freedom pulling them by their noserings, David did it by pulling on something else. He was a ruthless killer and paved the way to the promised land through puddles of his enemies' entrails and body parts, but this is what had to be done.
The differereces in metaphors between David and Moses notwithstanding, both men used the Torah to argue for the supremacy of the Temple, of personal and national jurisprudence, and as the the most famous musician and poet in history David's reign suggests for the importance of the arts to the longevity of Hebrew society.
Moses was never a king or a governor, he never owned property. David did everything Moses did plus a few extras but neither had a lasting legacy. Documentation of how this affected the Jewish people and their hopes for Mashiach is why the Talmud was written.
Verse 29 describes how this hope is to become an environment in which all mankind is spared the curses of its ancestors:
29. David, Simana Hova Leah, said Rabbi Acha bar Bizna, Rabbi Shimon Hasida said:
A violin was hanging above David's bed, and since he reached midnight.
One night, a north wind came and blew on him and played music from him, immediately he was standing and engaged in the Torah until the pillar of darkness rose.
Because the pillar of darkness went up, the wise men of Israel came to him. They said to him: Our Lord the King, your people Israel need sustenance.
He said to them: Go and make a living from it. They said to him: There is no handful that satisfies the lion, and no pit is filled with his dust. He said to them: Go and spread your hands in the regiment.
There is no way to satisfy the lion of violence, only the lion of justice. We must come to understand this. We have never ever tried to live without violence not for any prolonged period of time. We have decided to be laissez faire with it and now this very bad habit means all of us are now a party to or a victim of it.
Though we love our US Military soldiers, the forces of darkness led by many of our own people are trying to guarantee they are fight on too many fronts at once, and there will one day be enough strain their agenda needs will be met and many many people will die.
Anytime a vile person or regime starts a fight, like George W. Bush, or Donald Trump, or Bashar Assad or Vladimir Putin, you send every ship, gun, plane, pair of boots and spare pair of hands and you kill them and their army before an intractable war starts.
George Bush is the only leader in history to employ this tactic, during the Gulf War and he stopped a kind of pre-World War 3 right then in about two weeks. We have allowed Ukraine, Syria, Israel, etc. to suffer for years and years and now American and European soils are now engaged in Defense Conditions.
President Biden is an oaf and a coward. If I were president that creeping, loathsome, shambling, illiterate savage Mitch McConnell would have already had a bullet in his head after all the criminal acts he's performed while in office. Now the cunt is getting compliments from our most dire enemy during a time we are at war. What a fucker.
And what is the President going to say when it come time to do what should have been done a long time ago? "Sorry I was late in protecting 13% of the world's food source and the people that produce it, we had a little trouble printing arrest warrants for a bunch of pedophiles who have obtained state power illegally? Whoops!"
We cannot dawdle over this. We Americans must relieve Ukraine and force the Russians off their land the same way George Bush forced Saddam Hussein out of Kuwait. We have to cleanse the US Gov of corruption and get the work of caring for the people done with efficacy. The Black Pillar, midnight before the Right Time is upon us and we must go into the uknown as the Mishnah says with the Music and the North Wind, what is hidden by God, the future at our backs.
Since we've thought about it, trained for it but never done it, we need to be willing to be Issachar, weak, but weak together in the name of defining the nation in the cause of the light. We need to rapidly employ ourselves to this cause and the outcome- peace on earth at last -will be the wages.
It's not quite as glamorous sounding as hiring a bunch of male prostitutes, but the premise underlying both is the same: take the money, the job albeit unpleasant at times has to be done.
The Values in Gematria for the above verses follow:
a. "David- a sign you are required to follow, meaning business with the men in the field, the lubrication of the stork."
The Value in Gematria is 3066,גאֶפֶסוו, gapesou, "gather in peace in order to negate what is false and emphasize what is true."
"The particle ου (ou) — spelled ουκ (ouk) when the next letter is a vowel — is one of two common particles of negation; the other one is μη (me) and both happen all over the New Testament.
The difference between the two is that ου (ou) describes an objective negation and μη (me) a subjective one. The difference there is that a subjective negation says no to one of multiple options while an objective one disregards those.
A subjective negation has to do with condition, supposition or even aspiration, and is often part of constructions like "may it not happen" or "if not/ would not". Our particle ου (ou), on the other hand, describes an absolute and blunt non-existence without further review of alternatives — NO! — the opposite is ναι (nai), meaning yes (MATTHEW 5:37).
On occasion, these two particles of negation occur side by side, as μη ου (me ou), an interrogative expression (ROMANS 10:18, 1 CORINTHIANS 9:4). But, in the eloquence of Spiros Zodhiates, "in this combination, me is interrogative and the ou belongs solely to the verb following" (Complete Wordstudy Dictionary).
Note that while our modern Boolean sense of negation dictates that two negatives create one positive (not-no means yes), in Greek a double negation emphasizes it (no-no means absolutely not)."
b. A violin was suspended...the Value in Gematria is 4027, דאֶפֶסבז, dafesbez, "Understanding comes out of the mouth of the faithful like lightning."
Bezek [N] [H] [S] lightning. The residence of Adoni-bezek, in the lot of Judah ( Judges 1:5 ). It was in the mountains, not far from Jerusalem. Probably the modern Bezkah, 6 miles south-east of Lydda.
c. The Pillar of Darkness went up...the Value in Gematria is 7415 זדאה, zada, "understand the brilliance of the Commandments."
d. The Regiment= the Value in Gematria is 7843, זחדג, zadahg, "the brilliance of the understanding of the brotherhood of mercury."
Hg in Judaism represents the god Mercury who traveled from the high realms to the low to plead for the poor and bring them hope. I cannot help but believe this Gemara is indeed telling us what to do with about this World War 3, even though we are not precisely sure how. Only that nothing will go wrong if we try back away from it and try to help the suffering it has left behind. Surely we yet have the money, manpower and technology available for this.

"Yes, like not a lycan." This is so stupid, he can't just keep beating around the bush here, as much as he knows he and Lucas can sit there and do that for hours. Lucas is kind of easy that way, he just likes to kind of....Be there. It's something Damian appreciated about him. If he wanted tough love, he'd got to Serkan, some kind of sage wisdom that made him nervous, he'd go to Alek. Or if maybe he wanted to be read to filth he'd go to Dante. Honestly this was probably a conversation for Anders specifically, but he didn't think bringing up vampires around someone who'd grown up in the Tana was a good thing. "Like what if I found some really star crossed lover's kind of deal."
Dating. Hmmm, dating. Lucas like hooking up and he'd had his fair share of flings and short relationships but it was rare anything ever lasted, mostly because he didn't care for it too. The last one had been around 3 years ago with Serissa and since then he'd been fine not thinking of serious romance. Flora made things more complicated, perhaps in the best way possible. But while he didn't see himself as the expert to a having a long monogamous relationship, it was rather flattering to think anyone would come to him for that sort of advice. He at least knew what a healthy relationship looked like when he remembered his parents and his mother had taught him well how to treat a significant other.
"You mean like... not a lycan?" Lucas scoffed, mischief glinting in his dark eyes as he wondered just what Damian had gotten himself into. "Well, I guess it depends on the species. I've dated a really great nephilim lady before. Last real relationship I had, actually. Who are we talking about here?"

beware the macabre
summary: you go with your boyfriend to camp redwood after his friends talked him into checking out what it had to offer around halloween. word count: 746 words warnings: slight au, where instead of being there for the summer, the 1984 crew visits the camp during halloween, cussing, major character death, blood, stabbing, montana using pussy as an insult a/n: wrote this as a submission for my challenge! using the following prompts: "Can we leave before we're all possessed?" "This place scares the hell out of me."
A chill ran up your spine.
"Can we leave before we're all possessed?" Xavier asked, standing right behind you.
You jumped at the sound of his voice, but his hand that soon rested on your arm quickly soothed your momentary fright. You looked back at your boyfriend, your eyebrows furrowed.
"We're gonna be possessed?" you asked, your anxiety getting the best of you.
Xavier's eyes widened. "No, just, uh, just a figure of speech. You know that," he said. He wrapped an arm around your waist and pulled you close, looking over at Chet and Montana. "Really, guys. This isn't fun anymore."
Montana rolled her eyes. "You're all a bunch of pussies. You're fine. I'm fine," she said, crossing her arms over her chest.
Chet shined his flashlight on the two of you, raising an eyebrow. "You can leave if you want. No one's making you stay."
Xavier frowned deeply. He knew if he left, his friends would never let him hear the end of it. But you, on the other hand, were quite literally terrified. The chill of October, the only light other than handheld flashlights being that of the full moon, and the fact that this stupid camp was supposedly haunted was starting to get to him, as well.
"This place scares the hell out of me," Brooke nervously said, sticking close to Ray. He placed an arm over her shoulders as Montana groaned.
"Then leave, you guys. Seriously."
You leaned back in Xavier's embrace, frowning deeply. Leaves rustled, just beyond the cabin you stood by. But there was no wind. Despite the chill of autumn, the wind had been stagnant for some time. Your hand quickly reached up, gripping onto your boyfriend's.
"Did you guys hear that?" you asked.
Montana rolled her eyes. "Stop it, [Your name]."
"What?" you looked at her defensively. "I'm not lying."
Xavier frowned deeply. "What did you hear, babe?"
You shook your head, swallowing thickly. Hesitantly, you pulled away from your boyfriend, pushing back whatever fear you had as you walked over to the tree line. You turned your flashlight on, shining it through the bushes.
It was quiet. There was nothing there.
You looked over your shoulder, softly sighing. "I'm sorry, it must've just been some animal," you said. "I'm not good with this sort of stuff."
You stood back up and turned around, seeing your boyfriend's face distort into that of horror.
"Xav?" you asked, warmth spreading across your stomach. "What's wrong?"
"[Your name]," he quickly spoke. "Don't – don't move, babe," he shakily said.
Montana's hand gripped onto Chet's arm as she watched, her eyes wide and a mystified expression taking over her features.
"Tana?" you began, as the warmth from your stomach slowly began to turn into an indescribable pain. You looked down, seeing a knife protruding from your abdomen. Blood trickled down your front, and would surely gush if the knife was removed.
No one was around – there wasn't anyone that could have done something like that.
When Xavier realized you were standing there alone, he rushed forward, quickly taking you in his arms. "Hey, baby, look at me," he said, attempting to lower you to the ground.
Your legs shook as he moved you. Pain rippled through your body.
"Be careful," Ray quickly said, rushing forward. "You're gonna hurt them," he said, getting to his knees beside you. "Was there a phone?" he asked, looking towards Xavier. "We need to call for an ambulance."
"There was one," Brooke said. "It wasn't working when I tried using it earlier."
"Shit," Ray cursed, looking down at you.
Your eyes were hazy and unfocused.
"Keep her awake," Ray ordered Xavier.
Your boyfriend reached forward and cupped your cheeks, his hands trembling. "Shit, shit, shit, we shoulda never come out here, baby," Xavier lamented. "You said it was a bad idea. I should've listened."
"Not your fault," you weakly said, smiling up at him. Your teeth were stained a light pink from the blood slowly spilling from the corners of your mouth.
"Ray, what the fuck is happening? Are they gonna die?" Xavier asked.
Ray didn't answer, looking at his friend.
"Fuck," Xavier cursed. "Fuck, fuck," he said, pressing a hurried kiss to your lips. "I love you, baby, you know that, right?"
Xavier didn't get an answer.
The last thing you saw before visited by a wave of darkness was your boyfriend's eyes, and the thing that stabbed you slowly creeping up behind him.

8 ¼
11 5/..
much bit – bad night – heated in my chelat – obliged to throw it off – did not sleep till five – fine but dullish morning and windy – breakfast over at 11 10/.. then wrote all but the first 6 lines of p.221 till now 12 10/.. the horses have been come about ½ hour but no guide – message before 9 this morning to say the horses could not be here till 1 – difficult to get them – we did very well yesterday – but we must have a guide if possible – R14 2/3° and F65° now at 12 ¼ in my bedroom – read over account of valley d’Anténi Dubois iii. p. 210 et seq. till ¼ after 1 when the guide came – several little girthing etc. arrangements – A- and myself and George and our Cossack and the Georgian guide fine horses, and a mounted Cossack besides – 6 of us – off at 1 35/.. – fine day but windy – at the river (Kour) in 10 minutes – broad dry, gravelly (small bouldery) bed, and deep rapid stream just at the foot of the hills on its right bank – unsaddled our horses held them in halters and swam them after us – over in 2 or 3 minutes in 2 long tree-like boats, but only the ends scooped out of trees – the rest 2 boards on a side and perhaps a tree bottom – two board huts on the other side and people always ready at this ferry – part of culée of one old stone bridge – over at 2 10/.. resaddled and en route in about 10 minutes or ¼ hour – we immediately turned right along the foot of the hill – evidently not a high road even for these parts – it was soon evident our guide given us by the maître de police did not know the way – had never been at Aténi – he had to inquire and we went a little out of our way – A- first we passed the Scierie of the Eristav – A- then turned up a hill at 4 to look at a little old stone (oblong, 2 gable ends) church – then forwards and alighted at 4 23/.. at the village (sâcles and 2 good little church and one old oblong 2 gable ended church) d’Aténi and set off to mount the hill to old fort finely placed on little plateau of rock high above – this not the monastery de Sion – remounted – rode thro’ the village and wound round the rock along a narrow path – the part cut out of the rock only about 5ft. wide and of this about 80 to 100 yards was water course and we rode thro’ the water alighted at the monastery de Sion at 4 50/.. finely situated on on bold promontory of rock right across the valley leaving room only for the clear, beautiful little stream (the Tana – excellent trout stream) – charming little green bottom of valley orchards and vineyards and gardens – the most picturesque little valley we have yet seen in the Caucasus – 2 green branches turn off a little beyond the monastery – the Tana runs along that to the right (as we look up the stream) and runs about 10v. farther said our guide rode thro’ hedges and bushes of jasmine, pomegranate, yellow honeysuckle, sweet gall, privet in flower and particularly pretty along the banks of the river here and there – beautiful narrow deep winding valley – the church would easily be put into repair tho’ now merely used to 1 house sheep and cattle –
Dubois and account good
the roof flags thick and cut with one lapping edge, like the edge of a tile, and one lapped over another – the river winds beautifully beyond the church in narrow gorge, all the selvage garden and vineyard and green grass – beautifully picture of from St. Sion at 6 40/.. – at the Scierie in ½ hour – alighted for a minute or 2 – wood cottages and saw mill
only 2 saws in it, and wood house neat for the Eristav himself when he is here – trotted briskly – at the ferry at 7 50/.. – sometime in arranging – unsaddled the horses and let them swim by themselves to the other side, and sent someone, or somehow somebody did catch them and prevent their trotting away home – we [?] over in 2 minutes at 8 3/.. and home at 8 18/.. the tea over at 9 55/.. and had Domna till 10 ¼ - very fine day
East front but only a yard wide walk between church and low parapet wall over the [?] .:. could not see well –
north front standing close under it – south front the same 2 arcades one on each side the door
this sketch copied from rough book at Koutais no! from loose paper Sunday 5 July 1840, and note quite sure about the top part – could not see the dome neither one sketch or other – too close – very little space about the church except from the west where is the court and entrance – had not time did not think to the west front
