[ad_1] Smriti Mandhana in ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 (PC: ICC) Snehasis Mukherjee in Dubai Team India’s ICC Women’s T20 World Cup campaign in the UAE had many problems. One of the biggest was the poor form of vice-captain Smriti Mandhana. Fans had high hopes for her, as she is considered to be the best batter in the squad. But she scored only 75 runs in four innings, at an average of 18.75 and a strike-rate of 94.93. Her only decent knock was a fifty. It was a tough campaign for the opener. Apart from her innings against Sri Lanka, she struggled in all other games. Before the tournament, India played two warm-up games. She failed in both, getting out to spinners. In the World Cup, she was dismissed by spinners three times and was run out once. Struggle against spinners Smriti’s struggle against spin, especially on slow, spin-friendly pitches, is a real concern. She is the kind of batter who likes the ball coming on the bat and that is known by now in world cricket. She looked unsure about the lines and lengths of the deliveries that got her out. There were no clear foot movements, and she got stuck in the crease, failing to use its depth to her advantage. In contrast, New Zealand’s Sophie Devine showed positive intent against India, using her feet and coming down the track. Smriti can take a cue from that approach. Even the Australian batters, on the tricky, spin-friendly Sharjah pitch, handled India’s spinners well and scored 150-plus. In her T20I career so far, Smriti has been dismissed 57 times by spinners and 60 times by pacers. But in the last two years, she has been dismissed 24 times by the spinners and only 11 times by the pacers in a total of 36 innings. Lack of intent Smriti also needs to work on her intent. Her quality as a batter is undeniable, but as an opener in T20s, more intensity is needed. In the shortest format, it is important to give a brisk start, and while Shafali Verma often plays the attacking role, that does not mean Smriti should not be aggressive. For instance, in the game against Australia, Shafali played a quick cameo before getting out. When Jemimah Rodrigues joined her, fans expected Smriti to take charge, as she was already settled. However, she did not show much intent, focusing more on taking singles and twos rather than pushing for boundaries or taking control of the game. For the Latest Sports News: Click Here Smriti Mandhana in WC 2024 (Source: EspnCricinfo) Strike rotation and strike rate The 28-year-old finished the tournament with a strike-rate of less than 100, which is simply unacceptable. This year, she has scored 570 runs in 18 T20I innings at a strike-rate of 118.25 — slightly better than last year’s 116.39. However, from 2020 to 2022, her strike rate was consistently above 130. One of her biggest issues has been playing too many dot balls early in her innings, especially during Powerplay overs. She has struggled to find gaps against spinners, making it difficult to rotate the strike regularly. Before the Sri Lanka game, Smriti admitted in a press conference that she was frustrated with her performance against Pakistan, particularly for playing so many dot balls, which led to a rash shot and her dismissal. Not turning up on big occasions Despite averaging 38.00 this year in T20Is, she has faltered when it mattered most. In recent key matches like the Commonwealth Games final, last year’s World Cup semi-final against Australia, and now against both New Zealand and Australia, she failed to deliver. Her only fifty came against Sri Lanka, a team that lost all their matches. Even in the Asia Cup final, her fifty against Sri Lanka was in a losing cause. As India’s best batter, her failure to perform in big games is frustrating for fans who expect her to shine. Many die-hard fans travelled from India to watch her in action in the UAE. Smriti’s performances proved to be a let-down. The recurring pattern is a cause of concern. After this disappointing World Cup campaign, India’s captaincy
could be on the line, with a possibility that Smriti might take over from Harmanpreet Kaur. But is this the right time? A captain needs to lead from the front, performing consistently to inspire the team. It requires not only skill but also responsibility, hard work and courage. The question is whether Smriti is ready for such a role. As a batter, she first needs to address her own struggles and work on them quickly before the opportunity slips away. Huge final week of October for Bavuma & T20WC Proteas
October has not been an amazing month for Proteas captain Temba Bavuma as he has scored simply 11 runs in three innings and has been battling with sickness. However he has to now lead by instance and never solely rating brisk runs up entrance but additionally steer his crew by way of an enormous final week of the month wherein they play Zimbabwe on Monday, adopted by Bangladesh (Thursday) and India (Sunday). Bavuma has been knocked over within the first powerplay in 5 of his seven T20 Internationals this yr, so there can be loads on his thoughts as he opens the batting in what may effectively be seamer-friendly circumstances in Hobart on Monday. He admitted that there are a couple of “conversations in his head”, however one factor we do learn about Bavuma is that he’s a tremendously tenacious character and he can be preventing laborious on the Bellerive Oval. “I really feel good, I’ve gotten over that illness in India and I’ve had a few web periods,” Bavuma stated on Sunday. “The stress will not be distinctive to me, all worldwide gamers must take care of it. “Sure, as captain, it’s much more blown up, all eyes are on you and there’s much more critique of your efficiency and the way you lead. It comes with the accountability, and I received’t shrink back from it. “I’ll resist it as honourably and with as a lot gratitude as I can. I’m conscious of the conversations in my head relating to my sport and the way I’m going to steer. “However I’m not conscious of any outdoors conversations, these will not be mentioned throughout the crew. Our focus is on figuring out what we need to do and easy methods to do it, the rest is for different ears.” Two spinners or one? The one choice points then, with the dominating Reeza Hendricks out within the chilly, can be whether or not South Africa play two spinners or one, and whether or not their all-rounder can be Wayne Parnell or Marco Jansen. The Proteas, ranked fourth in T20s to Zimbabwe’s 11th and Bangladesh’s ninth, will go into their first two World Cup matches as favourites. They discovered from final yr’s occasion, wherein they misplaced only one match however have been edged out of the semi-finals on nett run-rate, that when they get the upperhand, there might be no hesitation in ruthlessly going for the jugular. Learn extra:  Proteas favoured in T20 World Cup opener, however poor climate raises stakes “Our greatest takeway from the earlier World Cup was that each sport issues, it’s a must to carry out in addition to you’ll be able to in each match, and be sure you hold the heartbeat of the run-rate,” Bavuma admitted. “If in case you have the chance to win rather well then it’s a must to be sure you take it. We’ll be trying to execute in addition to we will in opposition to Zimbabwe. There’s no time to ease into the event, it’s so necessary to start out effectively. “It’s going to be difficult up entrance in opposition to the brand new ball, with the bowlers concentrating on off-stump. We have now to be circumspect however clearly with the suitable depth to place stress on the bowlers,” Bavuma stated. [ad_1]   Qiana Joseph. PC – PCB About 30 minutes before the start of the West Indies-England T20 World Cup game, there seemed to be some kind of a forewarning. A gusty wind blew across the Dubai cricket ground. Some three hours later, that wind had manifested into a ‘Qiana-Joseph-storm’ inside the stadium. Such was the power and strength of Qiana’s batting that it blew away England’s chances of progressing to the World Cup semifinal and powered the West Indies into the last-four. Qiana’s thought process was clear – if you bowl in my arc, it will go out of the park. Agricultural hoicks to pulls and lofts, Qiana was thoroughly enjoying her stay in the middle. Hayley Matthews, the fulcrum of the side, was matching Qiana’s strike rate. But for once it wasn’t the West Indies skipper who stole the show. It was Qiana. Meanwhile, England didn’t seem to know what really hit them. Dropping a string of catches didn’t help their cause either. By the completion of 6 overs, West Indies galloped to 67 for no loss. With just 75 more runs to score, the Windies had ‘killed’ the game in the PowerPlay itself. So, who is Qiana Joseph? For that, you have to scroll through a Cricket West Indies YouTube video from 2019. With a constant smile, the St Lucia-born cricketer mentions that she is a left-arm medium pacer who mostly generates inswing into the right-hander. And how she is trying to learn the tricks of pace bowling from her team-mates – Shakera Selman and Shamilia Connell. A couple of years earlier, when Qiana made her ODI debut versus South Africa in the 50-over World Cup, she had come out to bat at the No. 11 position. In her second T20I game, she batted at the No.8 position. It was in the 2022 CPL, where Qiana showcased some of her power-hitting skills with a brisk 19-ball 30. Incidentally, she came out to bat with her side, Barbados Royals in trouble. By the time Qiana made her comeback into the West Indies set-up this year, the coaching staff had decided that she would be used as a floater. She went on to play a useful hand of 34 this year versus Pakistan, which was her highest T20I score until she smashed England’s bowlers to shreds last night. Qiana had also provided more evidence of her pyrotechnics in a warm-up game versus the defending champions Australia. Interestingly, Shane Deitz, the current West Indies coach, did observe before the World Cup that Qiana ‘is a dangerous player’. Those words turned out to be prophetic. The night didn’t just belong to one player. It belonged to all those 11 West Indies cricketers who believed that they could do something special. When Aaliyah Alleyne hit the winning runs, the entire group of West Indies players was seen screaming and high-fiving the dug-out. At the other end of the spectrum, a young boy in the stands, with an England shirt on, was down to tears. The same could be said about the English players. Heather Knight, the England skipper, who couldn’t take the field due to a calf injury, was also emotional. But she had an extra responsibility, and that was to console her team-mates.  The last bit of action of the night was, however, left to the show stopper Qiana. The left-hander showed her dance steps while receiving the Player of the Match award. For us all, it was a night to remember which added much to this World Cup experience. List of Highest Individual Score in T20
T20 cricket is now almost 15 years old after its start in English domestic cricket. Popularity at the 2007 T20 World Cup quickly saw many large domestic leagues starting around the world. The highest individual scores records were broken around every year between 2003 and 2008. Interestingly, the current record has been held since 2013.
Here are five of the highest knocks notched by batsmen in the shortest format of the game. Even though T20 cricket is being played both internationally and domestically, all of these leading individual scores have only come from domestic competitions.
List of Highest Individual Score in T20:
#5 Brendon McCullum - 158* (73)
Tumblr media
In 2008, former New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum hit an unbeaten 158 against the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the inaugural Indian Premier League.
Playing for the Kolkata Knight Riders he opened the batting and helped his side to a commanding 140 runs victory. They were set a target of 223, but RCB were dismissed for just 80 runs.
What was even more impressive is that no one else in the KKR innings passed 20 meaning that McCullum scored 71.2% of the team's runs. Equally, after a fast start to the innings, his speed dropped and then he finished quickly at the end.
McCullum's record innings broke that of Cameron White by 17 runs, and he held the record for five years until Chris Gayle passed it also in the IPL. His strike rate of 246.87 is also only bettered by Gayle in this top five.
#4 Brendon McCullum - 158* (64)
Tumblr media
Over seven years after his first record, Brendon McCullum matched his 158 in the Natwest T20 Blast at Edgbaston. His score for the Birmingham Bears was nine balls less than the previous record in what was the highest individual score in England.
His 13 fours and 11 sixes lifted Birmingham to 242-2 and the Derbyshire Falcons were bowled out for 182 in reply. It was the first century by a Birmingham player in the tournament and surpassed domestic records by Graham Napier and Luke Wright.
The visiting captain decided to bowl and would have soon regretted his decision when the Bears' openers McCullum and Varun Chopra had 50 on the board in 25 balls. They added 160 from 79 balls before McCullum moved into overdrive.
#3 Adam Lyth - 161 (73)
Tumblr media
In 2017, McCullum's English domestic record was broken by fellow opening batsman Adam Lyth. The Yorkshire Viking's 161 helped his side to a T20 domestic best of 260-4, just three short of the world record total of 263-3.
The White Rose set the Northants Steelbacks a target of 261, but the visitors eventually lost by 124 runs after a promising start.
Lyth put on 127 with Tom Kohler-Cadmore for the first wicket and then 124 with David Willey for the second wicket. He hit seven sixes and 20 fours from only 73 balls, despite only becoming a T20 regular in the season prior.
Steelbacks's pace bowler Ben Sanderson’s figures of 0-77 from four overs were second-most expensive in T20 history.
#2 Hamilton Masakadza - 162* (71)
Tumblr media
Second on the list is Zimbabwe batsman Hamilton Masakadza, who scored 162 not out for Mountaineers against Mashonaland Eagles in Zimbabwe's domestic T20 competition.
Masakadza did not take long to start firing, smashing 16 runs from the first over and reached his fifty from only 24 balls. The next 112 runs came from only 47 balls in which he slammed 14 fours and 11 sixes at a strike-rate of 228.16 runs per hundred balls.
He reached his 150 in the penultimate over but he did not face a single ball of the final over. Despite this, Mountaineers posted 242 for 3 and the Eagles could only manage 107 for 9 from 12.1 overs in reply in a rain-affected match.
#1 Chris Gayle - 175* (66)
Tumblr media
Nicknamed the 'Universe Boss', Chris Gayle stands alone at the top of this list. In 2013, he posted an astonishing 175 from only66 balls in the IPL. He helped the Royal Challengers Bangalore to a 130 runs victory over the Pune Warriors.
Not only was it the highest score it was also the fastest T20 hundred (30 balls) and the joint-highest T20 team score (263). His strike rate of 265.15 is the best of anyone that has scored over 150.
The only interruption to Gayle's onslaught was a 33-minute rain delay, before which he had warmed up with two boundaries off Manish Pandey, and proceeded to strike him for three more in the same over after the break.
The innings was supported by opener Tillakaratne Dilshan, who was part of a 167-run opening stand in which the Sri Lankan only made 33.
The next IPL will see the fifth anniversary of this record and it still remains to be beaten. With Gayle the only one likely to break his own record, and his career coming towards its end, it may not be overtaken for a long time
