Okay. I’m going to go there. Here are my thoughts on this travesty of a match. But first:
Here are the Indian national cricket team’s international stats
World Test Championship
2021 - Runners Up
2023 - Runners Up
ODI World Cup
2015 - Semi-Finalists
2019 - Semi-Finalists
2023 - Runners Up
T20 World Cup
2014 - Runners Up
2016 - Semi-Finalists
2022 - Semi-Finalists
Champions Trophy
2017 - Runners Up
Now, I understand the points made about Choice of Pitch and Crowd Support. I do believe the outcome would’ve been different if we’d played anywhere except Ahmedabad. And as hosts, we’ve got to give our players every advantage, including a pitch that tilts in their favour.* BUT what about all the tournaments we didn’t host? We’ve consistently made the semis and finals of almost every single major international trophy in the past decade. We’re practically giants. We don’t need a pitch advantage to win a match - we’ve demonstrated that we can get the job done and we can do it anywhere, any pitch, any country. So why can’t we win when it matters most?
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: cricket is just as much as a mental game as any other sport. We need to take note of this pattern and do something to address it. I’m not saying a sports psychologist will solve all our problems but it’s certainly a start. The minute Travis Head began to hit a few boundaries, shoulders began to droop. There were times when the fielding was so lax it felt like they couldn’t be bothered to do it faster because “eh, it’s just a single run.” Australia was on fire today. Not a single mistake, not a single toe out of line. They were in the zone, serious from the get go - and they got the job done. I have never seen that kind of coordination and perfection from our Indian team. We’re always wobbly in places, and then are stabilised and carried through by the stellar performance of a few players (who vary from match to match). We can talk about Batting Depth and Hardik’s absence from the team etc etc but the fact of the matter is we are capable enough to win on any pitch, in any conditions, as we’ve shown before, time and time again. But not if it’s a final. And I just think that’s a problem worth addressing with a solution that goes beyond “shiny new pitch, better gyms, and new talent.”
*I know it's technically ICC who prepares pitches but iykyk

Jos is any day a better T20 batsman than VK. VK has got more records, but the impact Jos has is unparalleled
HAHAHAHAHAHA 🤣🤣🤣
I'm sorry but
HAHAHAHAHA 🤣🤣🤣
I'm curious, what exactly is considered "impact"? How about being the highest run-scorer of 2 T20 World Cups? How about being the player of the tournament in consecutive T20 World Cups? Virat did that. You know what else he did? India played 6 knockout matches between 2014 and 2024. Virat has made a half century or more than that in 5 out of those 6 matches. That's just shy of 400 runs in 6 matches. It makes his average in T20 WC knockout matches over 90. If that's not impactful, I don't know what is.
Is impact related to strike rate? Virat scored 70 off 29 against West Indies, 94 in some 50 odd balls against WI, and his century against Afghanistan came in 52 balls. The first knock has a strike rate of over 200. Virat chased down 48 off the last 3 overs against Pakistan at the MCG in 2022 and 39 off the last 3 overs against Australia at Mohali in 2016. The latter was a virtual quarter final, and Virat's knock guaranteed India's progress to the semi finals.
Is impact related to hitting sixes? Well, for all that Jos is a renowned six-hitter, it was Virat's six against Haris Rauf at the MCG was declared the shot of the century by ICC. An equation that read 28 off 8 became 16 off 6. It was Virat who hit the two sixes that were required to get it down till here.
Virat has time and again won matches out of nowhere for India. The Mohali 82 against Australia, the MCG 82 against Pakistan, the 72 in 2014 SFs vs South Africa, I can go on and on here-- Heck, Virat was most of the, if not the sole reason that India got as far as they did in the 2014, 2016 and 2022 editions of the T20 World Cup. He is a massively impactful player, who delivers whenever needed. Even yesterday's final, take Virat's 76 out of the equation and we had only a 100 on the board to defend. I doubt even Jasprit could have done much with that.
Virat ended his career in T20s as unquestionably the best T20 player of this generation. Nobody comes close to having the kind of impact he does on the game. He carried India in almost every single T20 World Cup he played, and nobody deserved to lift that trophy as much as he did.
I did not intend this as an insult to Jos. He is a great player, one of the very best to have played the game, but he's not better than Virat. Nope, sorry, he isn't. And it isn't limited to Jos either. There isn't any player in the world, not Rohit, not Warner, not Babar, not Maxwell, no nobody in this generation comes close to having the kind of class, poise and impact of Kohli in T20s.
People are allowed differing opinions - sure, the stats say Virat but in terms of coming in when the team needs and changing the game momentum Jos is one of the best at having an impact
Numbers aren’t always everything, I think is the point the original ask was making. And honestly, looking at the tournament that just concluded, VK really only made an impact in the final, whilst Jos was a lynchpin to a lot of England’s batting innings.
Not saying you’re wrong and - as I said - everyone has opinions and it’s great they’re different because it allows us to discuss thing :) But I think the original ask was talking more about match impact than stats. There is a reason he was RR’s impact batsman for the IPL this year.

Test, ODI Suits Rohit's Persona; T20 Is For Entertainment: Childhood Coach Dinesh Lad
By Aakash Srivastava: With recent reports indicating that Rohit Sharma is unlikely to feature in T20 Internationals going forward, his childhood coach, Dinesh Lad, expressed his support for this decision, categorizing the T20 format as primarily for entertainment, highlighting Test and ODI formats as better suited to Rohit's cricketing persona.
According to PTI reports, India's captain, Rohit Sharma, is expected to step back from T20Is, with Hardik Pandya often leading the team in this format since India's T20 World Cup semi-final exit in November 2022.

[ad_1] Indian women’s cricket team (Credit: @bcciwomen on twitter) Ever since Harmanpreet Kaur took over the seat of authority of Indian women’s cricket, she has showcased her aggressive style, and built a reputation of being a combative leader. Yet, in the light of recent failures and setbacks, as well as a disappointing T20 World Cup campaign, including bizarre tactical decisions, questions are being raised about whether she should continue as the leader of the pack ahead of an ODI World Cup year. With the ODI format in the spotlight, is it time for a leadership change? India’s ODI Performance Under Harmanpreet (Last Two Years) In the last two years, India has had some positive and hopeful results in ODI series under Harmanpreet’s leadership: 2022: A clean sweep over both Sri Lanka (3-0) and England (3-0) 2023: A drawn series with Bangladesh (1-1), hinting at a dip in form 2024: Resounding series win South Africa (3-0) and a series loss against Australia (Their ninth consecutive win over India in an ODI series) In the last two years, India’s ODI record has shown flashes of brilliance, especially with a few series wins. At the same time, their inability to penetrate the Australian side in ODIs is a cause of concern. The team’s inconsistency is worrying, including one loss and one win in the ongoing series against New Zealand, pointing to various vulnerabilities ahead of the 2025 ODI World Cup. Captaincy Style Under Fire In the recent past, Harmanpreet’s leadership style has been under fire after a series of controversial incidents spanning across formats and leagues. Her behaviour in the final ODI against Bangladesh was the most astonishing of them all–smashing the stumps, taunting younger Bangladeshi players and publicly calling the umpires “pathetic”. The Level 2 breach led to her being suspended for the following couple of matches. The incident left a blemish on Indian cricket and affected the team’s campaign as they headed for the Asian Games. The skipper’s visible frustration isn’t limited to the opposition. She has a tendency to put the blame on individuals of her own team rather than taking accountability for the side’s loss. In January, in an ODI against Australia, Kaur publicly criticised 21-year-old Shreyanka Patil for a costly over. Rather than addressing the issue privately, the captain decided to throw Patil under the bus who was fresh off her ODI debut in the last match. Such instances, where young players face public rebukes, could potentially harm their confidence and further strain team dynamics. Harmanpeet’s captaincy is often emotionally charged, especially in moments of high tension–an area of approach that has drawn considerable scrutiny. Personal Contribution with the Bat A captain’s role is much more than just strategy and field placement. On top of the added pressures, Harmanpreet’s form with the bat has been inconsistent 2022: Scored 754 runs in 16 innings at an average of 58.0, with a strike rate of 89.8. 2023: 85 runs in 5 innings, averaging 17.0. 2024: 182 runs in 5 innings at an average of 45.5 Although her 2022 was impressive, the years thereafter have obviously been downhill. Something that has not been addressed with the level of introspection or corrective action expected from a captain, especially one that is vocal about other’s inconsistent contribution. Tactical Blunders at the 2024 T20 World Cup For the Indian team, the T20 World Cup became a melting pot of tactical inaccuracy and executional gaffes. The first thing that comes to mind is India’s unstable batting order. Harmanpreet batted at No. 3 in the warm-up games and a couple more in the main tournament, but shifted to No. 4 against Australia that disrupted the batting order. Her own scoring rate did not supplement the change, putting the team under insurmountable pressure. Sending Deepti Sharma ahead of Richa Ghosh in a high-stake game against Australia completely backfired. The decision failed to capitalise on Richa’s hitting abilities when most needed.
In the match, Harmanpreet continued to overly rely on pacers. Capitalising on the error, Australian batters scored heavily against the pacers, exposing a lack of flexibility and inability to adapt strategies on the fly. In the T20 World Cup, the biggest talking point was obviously India’s laxity in fielding. While dropped catches are not a reflection of captaincy, several dropped catches highlighted India’s lack of preparation and focus, which ultimately cost India the silverware. Is This A Time For Reflection And Possible Change? Although recent ODI successes offer hope, it is yet to be seen whether Harmanpreet can evolve and temper her aggression with poised decision-making. With her retention as the ODI captain, following India’s glaring failure in the T20 World Cup, it is clear that she has the management’s support. If the aforementioned aspects do not improve, India may just need to reconsider their options for a fresh start. A start that will ensure a well-rounded, resilient team that is capable of winning the World Cup in 2025. India’s No. 3 roulette will be eliminated by Harmanpreet during the T20 World Cup.
India’s third-ranked player’s “mystery” has been revealed. Harmanpreet Kaur appears to be the piece of the puzzle that head coach Amol Muzumdar. Who had been quiet about, is now expected to solve.
“Yes, without a doubt. at addition to the warm-up matches. We had already made our decisions at the camps back in India before we left for the World Cup, Muzumdar stated prior to India’s opening match of the competition on Friday against New Zealand. “Our camp in Bangalore was quite enjoyable. That was where we had made our decision. These World Cup qualifying matches clearly demonstrated that to us.
You are able to guess it. You will locate it if you look through the scorecards. It’s a role that has had several occupants lately. It was also born out of necessity, mostly as a result of Yastika Bhatia’s injury sustained during the Bangladesh tour in April. Which made her appear to be the front-runner.
Since then, Yastika has recovered from a knee injury and is playing for the UAE team. However, it looks like she will have to wait for her chances. Harmanpreet batted at No.3 in both of India’s warm-ups, with scores of 10 and 1. However, it appears that in the grand scheme of things, that was unimportant.
Harmanpreet Kaur
Giving Harmanpreet the best opportunity to maximize her power game once.
It appears that the decision was made with some thought. Harmanpreet has mostly found herself playing catch up at the position she normally bats at, at four or five. Her strike rate of 94.09 throughout 84 T20 innings since 2022 is telling.
There have been four other people tried there since Muzumdar took charge. The longest-lasting experiment was the one conducted by Dayalan Hemalatha. She scored just 139 runs in seven games. Though, with 41 of those coming in a single inning. The other two who were briefly tried out were Sajeevan Sajana and Uma Chetry.
Join Our Telegram Channel:
Although Muzumdar could have resorted to Jemimah Rodrigues in an emergency, Muzumdar’s dexterity against spin makes her an important player at No. 4 or 5. According to the theory, Rodrigues, a touch player, may find it simpler to identify gaps in fields that are spread out.
Despite the limited sample size, Rodrigues hits for 143.81 in 10 innings at No. 5. Which is a significant improvement over his 110.19 at No. 3 over 59 innings. Nevertheless, Rodrigues is aiming to advance to “striking from ball one” as the next phase of her T20 batting development.
WPL given us a good base to find players
Muzumdar emphasized the strength of India’s roster. Not to mention that key backup players had specific roles allocated to them. Like Sajana, who as part of her personal development was sent to Australia for the “A” tour to “check off certain boxes,” which enhanced her status as an X-factor contestant.
It has, in my opinion, been a collaborative effort involving not only the Indian team or contingent but also the NCA, Muzumdar. We’ve been completely in sync with the coaches over there who went on the India a journey to Australia. We’ve been in continual communication. After the tour, we received feedback.
We seem to be formalizing a lot of things, in my opinion. Apart from the Indian contingent as I indicated, the India A [setup] is also very crucial for us. So that we get a lot of guys, and the bench strength is higher. We’ve observed the outcomes.
Several players who have joined the Indian team for this World Cup are alumni of the WPL. Not, of course, damaging the national team of first-class cricketers. But we have a solid foundation to locate players thanks to WPL.
Shreyanka Patil is one of the players whose reputation has improved as a result of the WPL. During Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s championship run earlier this year. The all-around player took the most wickets (4 for 12 in the final, to be exact).
Even though Shreyanka is just 12 T20I matches old. She has already established herself as a crucial death bowler. Who can create angles from around the stumps, much like her fast-bowling teammates. She has demonstrated a tendency to bowl in all phases of the game with her fluctuations in pace.
Another player who has sped her path through the WPL circuit is Radha Yadav. Who found herself in the cold for over a year after the previous tournament in South Africa. As has S Asha, the legspinner. Who debuted in Bangladesh this April and is another RCB discovery.

Rohit Sharma finally shares his secrets to effective leadership, emphasizing, “It’s important to…
The Indian captain, Rohit Sharma, ended India’s ICC title drought last month by winning the T20 World Cup. India did win its second T20 World Cup trophy, the first having elapsed 17 years earlier.
Playing in every T20 World Cup tournament, Rohit Sharma became the first player to win the trophy both as a player and a skipper. He guided the squad to the 2022 T20 World Cup semifinal when they were defeated by England.
Before experiencing his first taste of victory as the captain of the Indian cricket team with the T20 World Cup title win, he also lost the WTC 2023 final and the ODI World Cup final.
Speaking on The Aldar Experts podcast, Rohit Sharma offered some leadership advice that has enabled him to grow into the prosperous captain he is now.
Rohit Sharma highlighted the importance of leading by example, stating, “As a leader, it’s essential to set a standard for your team by leading from the front. It’s not just about performance on the field but also how you conduct yourself off it. I strive to be a role model for my colleagues in every aspect.”
He also mentioned treating the team’s members like brothers. When talking about Rohit, a lot of young players, like Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal, have frequently mentioned how much of a big brother he is to them. They mentioned how he is the older brother on the squad and treats everyone fairly.
“And I treat them like family, like brothers, you know, because they have the same responsibilities and shares in the team as you do, which makes them equal members of that team. Thus, you must give them a sense of belonging and make them feel as though they are wanted here, Rohit Sharma continued.
After India won the T20 World Cup, Rohit, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja announced their retirement from the T20I format. As captain, Rohit still has goals to achieve since he is eager to win both the World Test Championship and the ODI World Cup. At the moment, Team India is leading the WTC points standings. They have already competed in two WTC finals, losing both of them in 2021 and 2023.
“Rohit Sharma Reflects on His Strong Desire for T20 World Cup Victory”
After winning the T20 World Cup, Rohit was obviously quite emotional and expressed how much he wanted to win this championship for India.
“I really wanted this. In an emotive tone, Rohit remarked following India’s victory in the T20 World Cup, “It’s very hard to put it in words because of that moment.”
He was spotted at Wimbledon and is currently taking a sabbatical from the game. According to some speculation, he and Virat Kohli may also get a rest during the series against Sri Lanka.

Hold up, It's another world cup year???
Why does it feel like there's a world cup every year this is so stressful I am not emotionally ready for all of that so soon again (I say this and will proceed to watch every match, get way too invested and have an unhealthy number of panic episodes. 🙂)
yes!!! t20 world cup. the t20 world happens every two years. but it didn't take place in 2020 due to covid. so that edition got pushed to 2021. then the next edition happened as per schedule in 2022. and 2023 was the odi world cup. this year aka 2024 is the t20 cup again. 😭
they feel back to back cause covid fucked the schedule a little lmao. and also we keep losing. so the emotional trauma doesn't end and we keep reliving it (it's been 4 months and i am still not over the world cup final so 😭😭😭😭).
#before that we have the ipl.#and at least we know for a fact that india will win that!!!#virat kohli probably wont. but india will 😭#asks#cricket

Note
We need an Omegaverse AU fics which is just VK recounting all the times he got sent to the opposition's dressing room, and how his experience each time was 🤭😭🤣
Let's see, 2014 T20 WC, 2017 Champions Trophy, 2021 and 22 WTC finals, and 2023 World Cup finals 🤪 Also, can we add semi finals too? Like if you knock a team out of the running for a trophy, then you get access to their omega for one night. If we go down that route, then 2015 and 2019 WC semis plus 2016 and 2022 T20 World Cup semis. And test series losses 🤭🤭
Ahaha - maybe
Nah, adding semis just starts to muddy the water; you’re congratulating a team before they’ve won and potentially could lose. These are also still active players

Personal information Full name Mahendra Singh Dhoni Batting Right-handed Bowling Right-arm medium RoleWicket-keeper-batter
Accidental introduction to cricket
As a child, Dhoni was always into sports. He was a district-level badminton and football player. His football coach sent him to fill the position of a wicketkeeper on the school cricket team. He played well and soon bagged a permanent place in the group. This ignited his passion for cricket. Dhoni started focussing more on cricket after his 10th grade. He was very passionate about cricket and wanted to prove himself in this sport His father was not very fond of his son’s growing interest in cricket. He was of the view that there is no future in sports. However, Dhoni was clear-sighted about what he wanted for himself. He struggled against the rigid opposition from his father for prioritizing cricket over studies. But he was confident about chasing his dreams. So, going against his father’s wishes, Dhoni fulfilled his dreams instead. After that, he became a part of the Commando Cricket Club and an Under-16 championship. After this point, he pursued cricket seriously, but life had other plans for him.

[ad_1] Smriti Mandhana in ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 (PC: ICC) Snehasis Mukherjee in Dubai Team India’s ICC Women’s T20 World Cup campaign in the UAE had many problems. One of the biggest was the poor form of vice-captain Smriti Mandhana. Fans had high hopes for her, as she is considered to be the best batter in the squad. But she scored only 75 runs in four innings, at an average of 18.75 and a strike-rate of 94.93. Her only decent knock was a fifty. It was a tough campaign for the opener. Apart from her innings against Sri Lanka, she struggled in all other games. Before the tournament, India played two warm-up games. She failed in both, getting out to spinners. In the World Cup, she was dismissed by spinners three times and was run out once. Struggle against spinners Smriti’s struggle against spin, especially on slow, spin-friendly pitches, is a real concern. She is the kind of batter who likes the ball coming on the bat and that is known by now in world cricket. She looked unsure about the lines and lengths of the deliveries that got her out. There were no clear foot movements, and she got stuck in the crease, failing to use its depth to her advantage. In contrast, New Zealand’s Sophie Devine showed positive intent against India, using her feet and coming down the track. Smriti can take a cue from that approach. Even the Australian batters, on the tricky, spin-friendly Sharjah pitch, handled India’s spinners well and scored 150-plus. In her T20I career so far, Smriti has been dismissed 57 times by spinners and 60 times by pacers. But in the last two years, she has been dismissed 24 times by the spinners and only 11 times by the pacers in a total of 36 innings. Lack of intent Smriti also needs to work on her intent. Her quality as a batter is undeniable, but as an opener in T20s, more intensity is needed. In the shortest format, it is important to give a brisk start, and while Shafali Verma often plays the attacking role, that does not mean Smriti should not be aggressive. For instance, in the game against Australia, Shafali played a quick cameo before getting out. When Jemimah Rodrigues joined her, fans expected Smriti to take charge, as she was already settled. However, she did not show much intent, focusing more on taking singles and twos rather than pushing for boundaries or taking control of the game. For the Latest Sports News: Click Here Smriti Mandhana in WC 2024 (Source: EspnCricinfo) Strike rotation and strike rate The 28-year-old finished the tournament with a strike-rate of less than 100, which is simply unacceptable. This year, she has scored 570 runs in 18 T20I innings at a strike-rate of 118.25 — slightly better than last year’s 116.39. However, from 2020 to 2022, her strike rate was consistently above 130. One of her biggest issues has been playing too many dot balls early in her innings, especially during Powerplay overs. She has struggled to find gaps against spinners, making it difficult to rotate the strike regularly. Before the Sri Lanka game, Smriti admitted in a press conference that she was frustrated with her performance against Pakistan, particularly for playing so many dot balls, which led to a rash shot and her dismissal. Not turning up on big occasions Despite averaging 38.00 this year in T20Is, she has faltered when it mattered most. In recent key matches like the Commonwealth Games final, last year’s World Cup semi-final against Australia, and now against both New Zealand and Australia, she failed to deliver. Her only fifty came against Sri Lanka, a team that lost all their matches. Even in the Asia Cup final, her fifty against Sri Lanka was in a losing cause. As India’s best batter, her failure to perform in big games is frustrating for fans who expect her to shine. Many die-hard fans travelled from India to watch her in action in the UAE. Smriti’s performances proved to be a let-down. The recurring pattern is a cause of concern. After this disappointing World Cup campaign, India’s captaincy
could be on the line, with a possibility that Smriti might take over from Harmanpreet Kaur. But is this the right time? A captain needs to lead from the front, performing consistently to inspire the team. It requires not only skill but also responsibility, hard work and courage. The question is whether Smriti is ready for such a role. As a batter, she first needs to address her own struggles and work on them quickly before the opportunity slips away.
