  *** Marjorie Pritchard, the deputy managing editor of the Globe and who oversees the paper's editorial page, first called on newspapers earlier this month to publish editorials pushing back against the pres-ident's rhetoric toward the media, which she dubbed a "dirty war."    More than 300 news organizations pledged to join the effort, The Associated Press reported, with papers like the Globe, The New York Times, New York Post, St. Louis Post-Dispatch, San Jose Mercury News. and Idaho Statesman publishing editorials on Thursday to condemn the pres-ident.    "To label the press 'the enemy of the people' is as un-American as it is dangerous to the civic compact we have shared for more than two centuries," the Globe wrote in its editorial. ***

Pressed by reporters for details, Trump boasted that he and his team had came up with a way to make his new tax plan "revenue neutral based on certain things."    The Nov. 1 deadline came and went, and the plan the president promised to present never materialized. Yesterday, Politico published a report suggesting the policy, which never really existed in any meaningful way, is dead. ***

 *** U.S. President Donald Trump, who attacked his French counterpart in a series of tweets on Tuesday, should have shown "common decency" instead since the country was mourning the anniversary of deadly attacks in Paris, a French government spokesman said.    In five posts sent on the same day France marked the anniversary of the 2015 attacks that killed 130 people, Trump blasted the key U.S. ally over its near defeat to Germany in two world wars, its wine industry and President Emmanuel Macron's approval ratings.***

  *** While in private business, acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker walked away from a taxpayer-subsidized apartment-rehabilitation project in Iowa after years of cost overruns, delays and other problems, public records show.   The city of Des Moines ultimately yanked an affordable housing loan that Whitaker's company had been awarded, and another lender began foreclosure proceedings after Whitaker defaulted on a separate loan for nearly $700,000. Several contractors complained they were not paid, and a process server for one could not even find Whitaker or his company to serve him with a lawsuit. ***

*** His low tax bills are the result of a common tax-minimizing maneuver that, year after year, generated millions of dollars in losses for Mr. Kushner, according to the documents. But the losses were only on paper — Mr. Kushner and his company did not appear to actually lose any money. The losses were driven by depreciation, a tax benefit that lets real estate investors deduct a portion of the cost of their buildings from their taxable income every year.  ***

***  The new numbers appeared in the latest federal court filing in the ACLU class action case over family separations. They come as the Trump administration considers a new pilot program that could result in the separations of kids and parents once again.  A status hearing in the family separations case is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon. ***

*** American intelligence officials have consistently said they have not seen evidence that foreign adversaries are targeting U.S. voting systems this year with the intensity that Russia is said to have deployed in 2016, when its hacking attempts were detected in 21 states.  ***

Impeach the bastard, already! )))   *** (I)n the interview, aired Sunday on the CBS newsmagaine *60 Minutes,* in response to an unrelated series of questions, the pres-ident said, "I don't trust everybody in the White House, I'll be honest with you."    It created a ridiculous dynamic in which an American pres-ident said he doesn't necessarily trust his staff, but he does trust the murderous dictator of a rogue nuclear state that's threatened the United States.    T-rump then rejected the notion of White House dysfunction.  This was also a reminder that T-rump has a problem with credulity. ***

*** The deficit rose nearly 17 percent year over year, from $666 billion in 2017. It is now on pace to top $1 trillion a year before the next presidential election, according to forecasts from the T-rump administration and outside analysts. The deficit for the 2018 fiscal year, which ended Sept. 30, was the largest since 2012, when the economy and federal revenues were still recovering from the depths of the recession.  ***
