Oh @sheinofficial , I love when you post ads for items that are pretty darn close to items I've made. Wait! Does this count towards #MeMadeMay ? Here's my velvet racerback tank top with a built in shelf bra. The bra portion is made from swimsuit quality fabric, in my case for lift and durability, so this could be a tankini top!!! The fabric itself was part of @joann_stores Witching Hour line last Halloween. It's a self drafted pattern. Aarika is working today. It's so good that she did not stop working this time. This independence is good for the soul. She does a couple of photoshoots per week, post a photo on instagram and money on the bank. And her paycheck is bigger than high fashion models.

Maybe not as big a paycheck as Bella Hadid. She works constantly by traveling all of the world to be in big production shows, does a pap walk every other day & probably gets a kickback from the designers & the paps. But Aarika certainly earns more than other big name models who only work during the fashion show weeks. Runway modeling is seasonal & in between the look the designers in NYC want doesn’t work in catalogs. And unbelievably, you don’t get paid that well! This is an eye-opening article about modeling in NYC. Vogue only paid $250 for a cover shoot! The big money is in advertising campaigns & catalogs. Getting to be the face for a cosmetics line or hair care brand can pay hundreds-of-thousands but it doesn’t happen every year… or decade. As the article linked above shows, being a catalog model can pay better than being a “famous” model. 

Go to Ralph Lauren right now & you probably won’t recognize any of the models. Ditto at J. Crew. Down-market, see Aarika working for Shein. Then realize they’re all being paid the same $1500-to-$2500 day rate. Upscale brands don’t pay more for the exact same work. Swimsuit & lingerie modeling pays twice as much but you have to be careful the end result is tasteful. If you look too slutty, you won’t get hired for clothing. 

Catalog editors look for faces that don’t call too much attention away from the clothing & versatility to get their money’s worth. Aarika can change up her looks from super-glamorous to fresh-faced teenager. Aarika highlighted @sheinofficial on IG the other day. I checked them out & if you scroll way down you can see Aarika posing as a college coed. She looks completely believable as an eighteen-year-old & today she’s done up like a vixen. That kind of versatility keeps her in demand. 

Seeing a famous model in an online catalog makes a potential buyer think, “That won’t look as good on me.” This could be another reason for Aarika to keep her relationship on the down-low. If her face becomes too well-known, she’ll get less work in catalogs.
