Maintenance and Care for Pool Shade Sails
Tumblr media
Installing pool shade sails in Brisbane is an excellent investment for creating a comfortable and safe swimming environment. These swimming pool shade structures provide essential protection from the harsh Australian sun, enhancing both the aesthetic appeal and practical functionality of your pool area. To ensure your outdoor pool shades remain effective and durable, regular maintenance and care are crucial.
This comprehensive guide covers all aspects of maintaining your shade sails, from routine cleaning and inspections to seasonal care and storage tips.
Regular Cleaning and Upkeep
Maintaining the cleanliness of your pool shade sails is fundamental to their longevity and performance. Accumulated dirt, dust, bird droppings, and other debris can degrade the fabric and reduce its effectiveness. To clean your shade sail, mix a mild detergent with water and gently scrub the fabric using a soft brush or sponge. Abrasive tools and harsh chemicals should not be used as they can harm the material. Regular cleaning not only keeps your custom pool shade designs looking fresh but also prevents the build-up of substances that can weaken the fabric over time.
Inspection for Wear and Tear
Conducting routine inspections is essential for early detection of wear and tear. Examine the fabric for any signs of fraying, tears, or holes, and check the metal components for rust or corrosion. Pay particular attention to the attachment points and ensure that the pool shade installation in Brisbane remains secure. Identifying minor issues early allows for timely repairs, which can prevent more extensive damage and extend the lifespan of your UV protection pool sails.
Repairing and Replacing Damaged Parts
Addressing any damage promptly is crucial to maintaining the integrity of your shade sails. For small tears in the fabric, use patch kits specifically designed for waterproof pool shade sails. Larger damages may require professional assistance or even the replacement of sections of the sail. Metal components that show signs of rust or corrosion should be treated or replaced to ensure the structure's stability. Regular poolside sail maintenance and timely repairs keep your poolside shade solutions safe and effective, preventing minor issues from escalating into costly repairs.
Seasonal Maintenance Tips
Different seasons present unique challenges for maintaining pool shade sails. In summer, the intense sun can cause the fabric to fade and degrade. Applying a UV protectant can help mitigate these effects and extend the fabric's life. During autumn, falling leaves and debris can accumulate on the sails, necessitating more frequent cleaning. Winter weather, particularly in regions prone to heavy rain or storms, can put additional stress on the sails. Ensure that your high-quality pool sails are securely fastened and consider removing them during severe weather conditions to prevent damage.
Storage During Extreme Weather
Proper storage during extreme weather events is vital to protecting your affordable pool shade options. When severe storms or cyclones are forecast, it's advisable to take down the shade sails and store them in a dry, safe location. Before storing, make sure the fabric is clean and completely dry to prevent mould and mildew growth. Roll the sails rather than folding them to avoid creases that can weaken the material. Effective storage practices help preserve the quality and longevity of your custom pool shade designs.
Longevity Tips for Fabric and Structure
Maximising the lifespan of your pool shade sails involves several key practices:
1. Use High-Quality Materials: Invest in high-quality pool sails that are designed for durability and UV resistance. These materials, though possibly more expensive initially, will provide better performance and longevity.
2. Implement a Regular Maintenance Schedule: Establish a consistent maintenance routine that includes cleaning, inspections, and prompt repairs. This proactive approach helps catch and address issues before they become major problems.
3. Seek Professional Assistance: For installation and major repairs, consider hiring professionals. Pool shade installation in Brisbane, done by experts ensures that the job is completed correctly and efficiently.
4. Adapt to Seasonal Challenges: Modify your maintenance routine to address the specific challenges posed by different seasons. This includes applying UV protectants in summer and removing the sails during extreme winter weather.
5. Proper Storage: Store your shade sails correctly during periods of disuse or severe weather. Clean and dry the fabric thoroughly before rolling it for storage, which helps maintain the material's integrity.
Conclusion
Proper maintenance and care of your pool shade sails in Brisbane are essential to ensuring they provide effective sun protection for pools and remain in excellent condition over time. Regular cleaning, thorough inspections, prompt repairs, and appropriate storage are all critical components of a comprehensive maintenance routine. By following these guidelines, you can enjoy the benefits of your outdoor pool shades while enhancing their longevity and maintaining their visual appeal. Investing time and effort into maintaining your pool shade sails ensures a safe, comfortable, and attractive pool area for years to come, offering both functional and aesthetic benefits for your outdoor space.

Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6
----------
Brilliant sunshine beats down over the grand city of Nueva York. The month is June and the weather is perfect. The beautiful tall white structures of this futuristic skyline reflect the solar rays, like large white beacons beaming up from the ground.
Nestled amongst a collection of high-rise buildings, is a large penthouse. A home to a powerful man, not in politics, but in the criminal world.
It is the morning and the man in question sits quietly on the patio of his penthouse. The gentle sounds of the swimming pool lapping against the edges fills the air as a cool breeze ruffles his dark brown hair. Despite it being early, he’s already dressed in a long sleeve shirt rolled up to his elbows, waistcoat and suit trousers. He reads the news on a tablet under the shade of a parasol, his expression a wicked grin.
“The mega corporation Alchemax has released a statement reporting several employees have disappeared over the last few weeks.
They claim it began with scientists not coming in for work and now employees further up the hierarchy are also reported to be missing.
We spoke to Mrs Garcia, the wife of a missing employee from Alchemax…”
His peace and quiet is interrupted by a young girl's voice.
“Papa!” calls the girl. “Good morning papa.” The sound of the patio door sliding shut indicates she is coming out to see him.
He turns to greet her and places the tablet on the glass table.
“Buenos dias, mija,”(Good morning darling) he says softly to his daughter as his strong arms envelopes her in a cuddle.
She pulls away from her father’s embrace and puts on her puppy-dog expression with her big brown eyes, looking directly into his.
“Papa, can you come with me to school this morning? she asks sweetly.
Her father sighs. He has a busy day ahead of him.
“Mija-” he begins to protest.
“It’s you know what day and I want to spend some time with you,” she interjects, maintaining that sweet pleading face.
The man frowns. Today marks the fifth anniversary of his wife’s death. Five years his daughter, Gabriella, has been without a mother.
His daughter is the apple of his eye and when she pulls a face like that, he can’t refuse her - especially on a day like today. Gabriella will be ten years old in a few months but she seems so grown up already. He’s thankful she doesn’t abuse her power over him too much as he doesn’t want to spoil her more than he usually does.
“Alright mija, okay. Go get your bag and we’ll stop by the cafe and grab some muffins before school. Sound good?” he asks, raising an eyebrow.
Her face lights up with excitement, flashing a brilliant, white toothy smile.
“Si, papi!” she replies excitedly and runs back inside to go get her things.
***
The father and daughter duo sit together in a small black limo, at the back of a short line of the same coloured cars - all of which belong to him. They drive in convoy to the school.
He sits quietly, staring out of the window after eating the sweet blueberry muffin he had bought from the cafe he’s a regular at. Gabriella is taking her time eating hers, savouring every delicious mouthful.
“Papa…” she breaks the silence as the limo gently turns a corner.
“Si, mija?” he responds, preparing himself for another request or strange question. He can tell by the sound of her voice she is about to ask something unusual.
Gabriella swallows another mouthful of her muffin as a crumb or two tumbles down her top.
“Do you think you’ll marry again?”
Yep, there it is… He turns his head to look at his daughter.
“I’m too busy to look for a new wife,” he begins. “Besides, I want to spend my rare free time with you,” he continues as he gently nudges his fist against her shoulder making her giggle.
“I know papa, but I want you to be happy,” she finally replies before taking her final mouthful of her delicious treat.
Her father tilts his head at her response, his eyebrow raised.
“I am happy.”
Gabriella shakes her head gently as if she doesn’t believe him.
“No, you’re not papa…”
His daughter is right, but he would never admit that to her. He didn’t want her to worry, but it seems she already is. The man’s heart melts at her concern for his happiness. The last five years had been a blur. Losing his wife was a heavy loss for both he and Gabriella. After at least a year of mourning and processing her sudden, untimely death, he started to put his plan for revenge in motion.
Since his wife’s passing he did get involved with other women when he felt ready; but they were only for sexual relief and never considered them as a potential partner. He lost interest in them when they tried to use him for his money.
The man’s gaze rests on his daughter. His hand idly plays with her ponytail, wrapping the ends of her soft dark brown hair around his fingers.
“I’ll consider it mija,” he pauses as he ponders. “I need to find someone first, someone worthwhile - pretty hard in my line of work.”
The convoy of black cars pull up outside Gabriella’s school. The man gently grabs his daughter’s hand before she leaves the car, causing her to look back at him.
“Have a good day at school mija,” he says as he leans forwards and kisses her forehead. “You got your necklace?”
Gabriella pats her shirt, something lay underneath it against her chest and she nods with a smile.
He returns her smile and pats her shoulder.
“Good girl, you know what to do… I just hope it’s never necessary,” he replies as he takes her bag and hands it to her.
Through the tinted windows, he watches his daughter be escorted into the school building. Her question repeats in his mind and a frown grows across his lips. She must be lonely and in need of a mother figure back in her life. Has he been too engrossed in his plan for revenge? Perhaps he’s lost sight of the more important things in life? But he had made so much progress, he couldn’t just drop it and leave things be now. Leaning back in his car seat, he sighs and closes his eyes.
The window separating himself and the chauffeur opens up, disturbing his deep thought.
“Where to, Mr. O’Hara?” the driver asks, looking over his shoulder into the back of the limo.
The look of a doting father leaves his face, and out comes the mask of the stern and dangerous mafia boss. A dark, dangerous expression on his face.
“The Web,” he replies as he watches his daughter’s escort return to the convoy of cars.
He is shut off from the chauffeur once more and the collection of cars start to roll forward. The Web is his underground base of operations, a place where people who cross him are locked away, a place where those missing Alchemax employees await their fate. He pulls out his phone and begins to type a message to a contact named Lyla.
“Get them ready,” his thumbs type out on the screen.
***
You are walking down the sidewalk, several school buses pass you during the rush hour traffic. Carrying a coffee in a large cup you’re heading back to your car. A message from your employer you had received on your phone, told you to hang around outside the school and look for a convoy of black cars, without any explanation. After the bright yellow school buses clear, a squad of cars matching that description drives past your parked vehicle. The limo catches your eye most of all, however the tinted windows didn’t allow you to see who is inside.
Wrenching your door open, you slide in and place your coffee cup in the holder between the front seats. Your seatbelt clicks as it fastens after you hastily pull it across you. Starting the car, you pull out of your parking space and follow the convoy several vehicles behind to keep a healthy distance.
Pulling up somewhere quiet in the city, you watch the black cars snake their way around another corner, slowing to a stop. You don’t want to be seen so you hang back, in the shadows between the high rise buildings. Getting out of your car, you take in your surroundings as you creep closer to the convoy you were following. It seems to be a regular business area of the city. Many multistory buildings are full of people working away. Cafes lined the street, serving people their morning coffee before starting their regular nine to five jobs.
Before ducking behind a wall, you spot a man stepping out of the limo. His long jacket drapes over his shoulders as he strides into an alley, followed by men from the other cars in the convoy.
Sliding your phone out of your pocket, you begin snapping away, taking pictures of the man leading the small group of sharply dressed people who came out of the convoy of cars. Beeps from a number pad rang out as this stern looking man punched in a code. A door clicks open and the group disappears inside.
***
Stepping into the building from the alley, Mr. O’Hara is met with a lift with doors on opposite sides. The elevator sinks down into the ground once everyone is in and the door is closed. A ding pierces the silence inside the lift and the sliding doors draw open.
A well dressed, strawberry blond woman stands at the other side of the doors, waiting to greet her boss. She carries a tablet displaying his schedule for the day. As Mr. O’Hara emerges from the lift, she walks alongside him, keeping up with his large strides.
“Morning Miguel,” she greets him with a light and airy voice.
“Morning Lyla,” he starts, “are they ready to talk?” His voice is a low growl and his expression full of determination.
Lyla chortles as she looks at her tablet. Her footsteps are faster than his as she is over a foot shorter than him.
“They may need a little convincing,” she replies with a grin.
As Miguel continues to walk along a dark corridor, he holds his hand out as he passes another member of his gang. Tall, incredibly slim, dressed in a suit with big, black dreadlocked hair, the man silently hands Miguel a baseball bat and walks after him.
“One of them will squeal, I’m sure,” Mr. O’Hara says as he casually taps the bulbous end of the bat against his palm, an evil smirk spreads across his face.
Down a few flights of stairs, deeper underground, Miguel approaches a heavy door and punches another code into a number pad. The sound of a heavy bolt sliding away from the door means he can open it.
“Hobie, join me inside, Lyla, reschedule my morning appointments, I might be a while,” he ordered.
Four men sat on wooden chairs with their hands tied behind their backs in a wide empty room. There is one large cabinet to the right but it is locked shut, keeping its several nasty implements used to help encourage people to start talking.
All four captives look up at the two new people entering the room, with tired eyes and fed up expressions. Some have been there longer than others.
“Which one of you miserable lot is Mr. Garcia?” The taller of the two sharply dressed men asked.
Miguel watches carefully to see which one responds to his name. He sees a scientist wearing a grubby lab coat gulp hard as he is preparing to speak. Approaching the shaking man, he points the end of the baseball bat right into the captive man’s face.
“You?” he asks, raising an eyebrow.
Mr. Garcia nods nervously and winces at how close the bat is to his visage.
Lowering the potential lethal weapon he points the end to the floor and rests his weight on the handle, leaning over it and peering into the scientist’s eyes.
“Please excuse me for not visiting sooner, I’ve been a busy man gathering information,” Miguel begins. “It appears that I’ve hit a snag on something and I’m in need of assistance, Mr. Garcia.”
The lab technician blinks in anticipation, his breath faltering at the intense stare burning into his retinas.
“Do you think you’re going to cooperate today?” the mafia boss asks with a smug smirk growing across his face.
“I- I’ll do the best I can, sir.” Mr. Garcia stutters in fear.
Remaining in position, leaning his weight on the handle of the baseball bat, he begins his questions.
“I need a name. The name of the man who contracted your team to do some work five years ago. Ring any bells, Mr. Garcia?” the towering man asks with a raised eyebrow.
A tired, shaky sigh left the captive’s lips. He dips his head low before replying.
“I signed a contract to not speak a word of what we worked on or divulge any information about who hired us - I’m sorry…”
Miguel growls impatiently and begins to slowly circle the lab technician tied to his chair.
“My darling wife worked in your team, remember her?” he asks, resting the baseball bat on his shoulder. Fierce eyes watching intently at the quivering scientist. “She too signed that contract and took the secret of the man responsible to her grave. Do you want the same fate, Mr Garcia?”
“Sir, my job and life will be in danger if I tell y- ah!” The scientist yelps when Miguel loses his patience and strikes the back left wooden chair leg with the baseball bat, knocking it clean off; collapsing the chair backwards. Mr. Garcia fell painfully in a heap, his tied arms stuck underneath him and the back of his chair.
“You’re in danger now!” the mafia boss yells angrily as he completes his slow circle, watching a groaning Mr. Garcia like a hawk.
“Next thing I hit will be your leg, making sure to break your femur. Perhaps you should reconsider where your loyalties lie, nerd.” He crouches down next to a shaking and whimpering mess.
“I know you have a wife, and she’s very worried about you-” Miguel is interrupted by the scientist’s sudden outburst.
“Please! Don’t- don’t touch her!” Mr. Garcia pleads desperately, pulling at his restraints.
A wicked grin spreads across the mafia boss’s face and chuckles darkly.
“Then I suggest you start talking…” he growls, standing up and playfully tapping the bat against his palm again.
“Kingpin! His name is Kingpin!” the lab technician splutters urgently.
The smirk on Miguel’s lips grows wider and teasingly rests the baseball bat on Mr. Garcia’s top half of his leg.
“What about his actual name?”
A fresh, desperate whimper erupts from the captive man’s lips.
“I don’t know! I swear! I promise I would tell you if I knew!”
With a nod, Miguel pulls the bat away. He believes Mr. Garcia. If he was Kingpin doing something shady, he’d use an alias too.
“Hobie, take this man, do what we usually do with the lucky ones, and then make sure he and his wife are under my protection,” the mafia boss orders, tapping the bat against his palm once more as he paces the room.
The slim gang member steps forward and hoists the shaking scientist to his feet. With a silent nod to his boss, he escorts a whimpering Mr. Garcia out of the room.
“Now, what part of all three of you shall I send to Kingpin in the mail?”
The solid door closes behind Hobie and Mr. Garcia, dampening the screams coming from inside.

here take th- *passes out*
ok i speedwrote this, i had a line in mind and decided to write it cause i was sad :] tbh the first bit seems kinda angsty but tommy's just in a silly goofy mood and is being dramatic as always.
also ig it's for @corysmiles's little streamer au? maybe? let's roll with it
goodnight now 😴
off switch
wc: 1356
cw: swearing, mention of drowning, brief panic
—–—
Tommy screams as he slips over the edge of the sink and plummets in, soapy water splashing around him as he sinks to the bottom. He flails in the pool of water, releasing a scream that came out as warped noises and a flood of bubbles from his mouth. Water clouds his eyes, but he still finds his way back to the surface. He gasps dramatically when his head resurfaces and the cold air of the bathroom rushes around his face and flushing his cheeks the faintest shade of pink. “Wilbur!” Tommy calls out, slipping below the water again. In a panic, he inhales, water flooding his pipes. He lifts his face up against the foamy water and coughs out, the detergenty taste of soap and shaving cream spilling out of his throat. Tommy shudders. “Wilbur, you fucking bitch! I am not fucking swimming around in your soapy-ass water, get me the fuck out of this!” He yells, gaping at Wilbur’s terrible attempt at hiding his smile as he continues on, acting as if he doesn’t hear the tiny. “Wilbur!” he yells, flailing with dramatised movements. Wilbur’s lips quiver in amusement. Water splashes around him, and he’s made too big of a scene to stop his struggle. Besides, the walls of the sink, no matter how close he gets to them, tower above him and will never guarantee a safe way out. Wilbur, the bitch, is the only way out.
He groans loudly (Wilbur can hear his utter distress) and ceases his movements to make a terribly embarrassing attempt of splashing water up at the human. He flips backwards the second his arms break the surface and he slips back under the water, limbs twisting in a terrible cluster, like a puzzle that takes eons to put together. He yells out Wilbur’s name under the water, and upon inhaling, again, water swarms his gullet and before he knows it he’s coughing underwater, bubbles disperse around him until he can resurface. And when he does, his cheeks are flushed with a deeper shade of pink-purple. He chokes, holding his hands to his chest to support his burning lungs, while his legs continue to flail under the water to keep him upright.
“Wilbur! Bitch—dick—asshole! You are the worst person I have ever met, help me!”
“Why should I?” Wilbur asks with a hum, patting his freshly-shaved face with a blue towel. In the mirror Wilbur is gazing into, Tommy watches as a faint smile threatens to crack further. That bitch,
“Wh’dya mean why should I? Just help me! That’s not a fucking thing to question, I’m literally drowning and your stupid ass is out here like ‘why should I?’” Tommy yells, scoffing.
“You look fine to me,” Wilbur says. Now that he points it out, Tommy realises that his legs are rhythmically flowing in the slow water to keep him afloat, and for once in his life he’s calm.
“Oh fuck off with that, I may look fine but I’m dying right now. Drowning, startlingly quickly. Got that, Wil-bitch?”
“I see,” Wilbur says, distracted. The towel is set down dangerously close to the sink, and Tommy finds this to be a taunt. An extremely irritating one.
“Help me,” Tommy whines, trying his hardest to sound even the smallest bit demanding for a man whose personality is structured on drama.
Wilbur shuffles, one last time drawing his hands down the faint stubble he’d left be before he pried his attention away from the mirror, and relievingly down to Tommy. He fully anticipates being brought out of this hellhole of a sink and onto the counter, but instead, Wilbur just leans over the counter and watches him. And the fucking worst part of it is: Wilbur doesn’t try to conceal his smile any longer. It’s keeping laughter locked in, he knows from the way his dimples are pulled back and his lips dip down at the ends.
“You are a bitch. I fucking hate you, die in a hole you absolute shithead— I will bite you,” Tommy snips, arms folding against his chest.
“You are a very demanding child,” Wilbur replies. He sounds too content, he hates it. And, oh—
“I am not a fucking child, ey, I’m eighteen now! And I can be as demanding as I want when I am dying in a sink,” Tommy argues, putting his complaint into lilting syllables.
Wilbur sighs, leaning further over the sink. His eyes come dangerously close to him, and Tommy can feel his warm breath wash over him when the man’s smile widens. He bares his teeth and Tommy very well considers punching them. But instead, he promptly splashes water up at the human. Wilbur yells and retaliates, standing upright and rubbing at his eye. “Oh fuck,” he murmurs softly, the smugness wiped right away. “You realise that doesn’t make me want to get you out of the water any more, yeah? You’re unpleasant to be around.”
“Wha—nononono—Wilbur, it won’t happen again! I promise, please let me out of this shithole and I’ll leave you alone, it is fucking freezing in here,” he says. It was a complete lie, and if anything, the water was strangely relaxing. But it helped his case.
“Think about it, waterinnit. We could make you li’l floaties, floatinnit. Wha’dya think?”
“I think get me the fuck out of here.”
Wilbur rolls his eyes and murmurs under his breath sadly, and with the hand that isn’t constantly making sure his eye is in-tact, swipes his hand under the water and takes Tommy along with it. Water falls over the edge of Wilbur’s palm and Tommy relaxes his shoulders and bathes in the feeling of the sores in his legs declining.
“Happy, child?” Wilbur asks, lowering his hands with practised ease flat onto the counter. Tommy, also having done this a million times over, clambers off. His clothes are heavy with water and his hair sticks uncomfortably against his forehead, playing with the tip of his vision.
“Congrats on doing the bare-fucking-minimum, he quips.
Wilbur laughs, reaching for something over the counter that Tommy doesn’t get a chance to see before his vision is cut off with a deep blue something. His head is abruptly caught between Wilbur’s forefinger and thumb as the human messes with the top of his head. His vision spins and his cheeks flush a deep pink when he realises Wilbur is trying to dry him off. He can feel the indent of Wilbur’s fingers against the towel gently dig into his hair. Part of him wants to struggle, but the other part melts at the feeling. It’s mesmerising, two fingers double the height of him rubbing against his hair in a paternal fashion. His heart twists weird, and before he can get ahold of his nice it felt, soft fluorescent lighting from the bulbs that lined the bathroom mirror flooded his vision. He squints at the sudden change, then stares up at Wilbur, who stares down at him with a fond smile—something knowing in it. Tommy can’t quite place it.
The phantom feeling of his fingers against his head still massages in his imagination. But, he still has a facade to hold up. “Wh- What the fuck was that? I don’t want fucking spa treatment from a bitch like you,” he complains.
“Awwwh, Tommeee, did you like that?” Wilbur coos, drawing out his name and crouching down to be eye-level with him. That something knowing in his eyes became almost obvious now. The same two fingers return to his head and something warm spreads in him. Wilbur massages his head, and he melts into it, eyes closed contently despite his urge to protest. Wilbur’s forefinger ruffles at his hair, smiling a smile wider than Tommy has ever seen.
“Piss off, you’re so annoying,” Tommy murmurs, tire lulling at him.
“Do you have a fucking off switch?” Wilbur asks abruptly, sounding startlingly curious.
“No, I don’t have an off switch!” he says, straightening up.
Testing his theory, WIlbur takes his head between his forefinger and thumb and rubs them in circles above his ears. Before Tommy can protest, he slumps against Wilbur’s hand.

The Lonely [Chapter Five]
Pairing: Viktor x fem!Reader Warnings: reader being depressed and a little dramatic, nondescript/nonsexual nudity Fandom: Arcane Proofread: not even a tiny bit
A/N: This chapter gave me so much grief. Writing is hard and sometimes the words dont want to Go, pls be gentle with me.
Chapter Five
The walk to the baths is slow and messy. Both you and Viktor drip browned water across the floors, and your boots squelch uncomfortably with every step; even the light breeze that travels down the corridors is enough to send a chill up your spine, and your friend fairs no better. By the time you finally arrive at your destination, you’re both shivering and the smell of mold has settled into your clothes.
The room itself is a marvel; not overtly grand in decoration, or large in area, but its clean and chiseled design stands out from the cobbled structure of the rest of the castle. Most notable is the recessed basin in the center of the room, made from polished quartz tiles of every colour.
Though in your opinion, it was less of a bathtub, and more of a small swimming pool.
You make a beeline for a large copper cylinder that’s nearly as tall as you, and set up beside the tub. You can feel Viktor watching you curiously from the doorway, and it doesn’t take him long to come over to your side to see what you’re doing.
“It looks like a heater,” he says, looking the machine up and down, gaze following the various twisting pipes.
You turn a couple of wheels located on said pipes, and nod. “It is,” you reply, “kind of. It’ll keep the water warm for us, but it’s also got sigils inscribed on the inside to purify it for us. It’s…an alchemy thing.”
The furnace makes a great metallic roar when you finally twist all the dials into their proper places, and within a few seconds it’s pouring steaming water out of an oversized faucet and into the basin.
Viktor watches the quartz tiles sparkle beneath the liquid for a few seconds, and you take the time to disappear into a nearby closet. Your supply has admittedly dwindled a little low in the past couple years, but you still have a shelf or two of purifying salts and alchemical oils; some of which you load up into a little carrying tray.
“Y/N?”
Viktor’s tone is slightly alarmed when he calls you, and you quickly move the tray out into the room.
“I’m here,” you say softly, emerging from the closet. His eyes are wide with concern from your sudden disappearance, though inquiry quickly replaces it.
“What are those?”
You kneel at the edge of the basin, and set the basket down. “These,” you explain, plucking up a small corked pot from the array, “are cleansing oils. Some of them are used preemptively when making complicated or dangerous alchemical brews, but these ones specifically-” you dump the container of purple salts into the water, “-are used in emergencies.”
Viktor frowns, and glances down at his still-wet clothes. “Emergencies?”
You continue dumping colourful salts and oils into the bath, until the water is a pearlescent shade of lavender, and then you stand and kick the basket away from the edge of the tub, “It’s not an emergency in the sense that our lives are in danger,” you explain to him, and start pulling at the lacings of your bodice, “but my father kept all kinds of weird ingredients and components in the basement. I don’t know what we’ve been exposed to.”
Once you drop your corset to the floor, you kick your boots off and start unbuttoning your shirt.
Viktor’s breath catches in his throat, and you pause. “You alright?” you ask, glancing at him over your shoulder.
His eyes are round and startled, and his jaw is slack; though the most notable thing about his expression is the distinct shade of red his face has turned. He tries to say something to you several times, each attempt ending in naught; and it finally clicks in your head.
“Oh my god,” you squeak, embarrassment rushing over you like someone dumped a bucket of ice water on your head. “I thought you knew we would have to share-”
You quickly gather up the few clothes you’d already dropped on the floor, dropping them a few times in your haste, and wobble towards the door. “I’ll wait in the hall!” you tell him, a little louder than necessary, but it seems to snap him out of whatever thought bubble he’d been stuck in.
Despite his need for a cane, you’d noticed throughout the week that Viktor was quick when he needed to be; a fact once again proven to you as he all but teleports to your side and gently wraps a warm hand around your upper arm.
“Wait,” he urges you softly. And wait you do.
You stare at each other with equal amounts of awkwardness and embarrassment, and for several moments neither of you say anything. The air is tense in a way you can’t decide is good or bad, but it makes your chest feel tight and fluttery.
“You can stay,” he says finally, in possibly the softest tone you’ve heard from him yet.
“Are you sure?” you ask again, “Because I really don’t mind waiting, if you’re uncomfortable…”
Viktor squeezes your arm just slightly, and tugs you back towards the bath. “It’s fine,” he assures you, “we’re adults. Nudity doesn’t have to be…weird.” He pauses for a moment, and then, “Besides, you look entirely miserable covered in whatever sludge lays in the basement.”
Your shoulders sag in relief, and the next few minutes are spent quietly; too nervous to make conversation while you undress and too shy to sneak glances. Only when you’re both settled up to your shoulders in steaming water, does the discomfort in the air dissipate.
You sigh deeply as the tension begins to ease out of your muscles, and briefly let your eyes fall shut. “I don’t know what it is about this bath in particular,” you mumble, “but I’m always most relaxed after stewing in here for a while.”
Viktor hums quietly, but when he says nothing, you suspect he’s having the same kind of reaction to the water that you are. Warm and comfortable, surrounded by the subdued din of bubbles fizzing and popping, the smells of the imbued oils swirling around to shroud the room in a thick mist.
You open your eyes and glance over at Viktor, who is fixing you with the same drowsy stare that you wear.
“Is it…supposed to feel like this?” he asks.
You nod. “Purifying salts are incredibly potent, and considering we’re covered in warp fungus, it has a hefty job to do.”
He perks up slightly, some of the sleepiness in his posture being replaced by curiosity. “Is that what was in the water, then?” he wonders.
“I think so.” You sit up a little straighter, and sling your arm out of the water to rest on the edge of the basin. “See, this is the benefit of sharing a bath. We can talk about what nonsense happened earlier.”
Viktor huffs a quiet laugh, and sinks further down in the water. “So, what did happen, Y/N?” his tone is serious, “You were…for lack of a better term, terrified of something down there. I’ve never seen a vampire be terrified of anything.”
“You know,” you crinkle your nose up in distaste, “if you hadn’t said anything about the spores, I would have said I saw ghosts. I always see ghosts down there.”
“Ghosts?”
“Yeah. Anyways, the warp fungus…shouldn’t be a problem,” you reassure, “my father probably had a sample hidden away down there, and the flooding in the basement could have disrupted it.”
Viktor frowns. “I am not worried about the fungus, Y/N. Ghosts, though? Have you always seen things that aren’t there?”
You tactfully avoid answering right away, instead turning away to root around in another small basket you usually kept at the side of the tub. You eventually find a couple of soft cloths, as well as some sponges, and you toss some towards Viktor. He gets the hint, and both of you begin scrubbing the grime off your skin.
But the silence doesn’t last long.
“Y/N?”
“Yes, Viktor?” you keep your tone carefully neutral.
“Earlier, when I found you struggling under the water…”
“When you said I looked like a turtle?”
“Yes,” he pauses scrubbing, “You said you thought you looked like someone was holding you under the water. What…do you remember, about the basement?”
You’re puzzled by his phrasing, but decide to answer his inquiry anyway. “I don’t know why, but for as long as I remember, I’ve always felt…wrong, down there,” you tell him honestly. “Even as a newborn vampire it was like that, though most of those memories are long gone by now.”
Viktor is quiet.
“Something about that basement has always…awoken some kind of deep, visceral fear,” you continue, “and it’s always made me see things, hear things, feel things, that aren’t there.”
“The warp fungus?” he suggests, but you shake your head.
“Even when my father was still around, and the place was kept tidy and dry, I hated going down there.”
He sinks even lower into the water, his gaze darting away from yours to intently watch the pearly eddies swirling around in the water. “Did your father never ask you why you disliked the basement so much?”
You shrug. “I never wanted him to think ill of me, like I was somehow…I dunno. Incapable? Or…not good enough.”
You watch your friend closely when his heart rate picks up, worried he might be growing faint, but he continues to stay focused on the small whirlpools in the water.
Then his gaze snaps back to you.
“You loved your father, yes?” he asks.
“Of course-”
“So why do you speak of him with fear?”
You’re taken aback by his question, your first instinct being to outright deny his claim, followed in quick succession by confusion. “I don’t know what you’re even talking about, Viktor,” you hiss, irritation clear in your tone, “but I don’t fear my father-”
“You do, though,” he insists. “Every time we’ve spoken of him, everything you’ve told me about him, has been shrouded in negativity. Not wanting to incite his wrath, not wanting him to think poorly of you, doing everything he says because you didn’t want him to cast you aside.”
You cross your arms over your chest and huff.
“What’s your point, Viktor?”
“My point is that you’ve never once suggested that your father was a loving man…”
“Of course he wasn’t!” you finally break, raising your voice ever so slightly. “But that- he was old, Viktor. Even by the time he took me in, he was old. And solitary, as vampires typically are. We’re not pack creatures; we thrive on being alone.”
“And yet he decided to take you in?”
You’re at a loss for words, annoyance and confusion roiling around in your mind as you think about things, digging up memories you haven’t seen in centuries. “Where is all this coming from?” your voice is weak.
Viktor affixes you with an expression of pure guilt.
“Tell me, Viktor.”
“Your father was experimenting on people.”
The silence that follows could be cut with a knife, tense and incredulous, you stare at your friend in disbelief. Yet you can’t find it in your heart to say anything; to try and dispute his claims, or argue, or fight back.
“The books your father wrote,” he explains, “were not just recipe books. They were journals. Notes he kept on his discoveries and experiments…most at the expense of other people. He kidnapped them, Y/N. Took them away from society and…and hurt them. And you…”
Tears well up in your eyes, and you finally break your gaze away from Viktor’s when a sob wracks your body.
You understand what he’s saying. What he’s suggesting. Deep down, you know you do. It feels like the truth, lining up with what few memories you have from your youth, and the hallucinations you’d experienced in the basement; your father had hurt people, hurt you, and you’d been his only success…
Or had you?
Had there been others?
There had to have been, otherwise he wouldn’t have…
Or maybe…
A gentle hand on your shoulder draws you out of your thoughts, and without thinking you let yourself flop into Viktor’s arms. You can feel the quickened thump of his heart as you lean against his body, the warmth of his skin touching you, and you can’t find the wherewithal to care about the potential embarrassment that may arise later.
“He never loved me, did he?” you ask despondently, “I’ve been alone all these years, hoping that one day he’d come back to me, but he…he never even cared. There’s never been anyone who loved me, and there never will be-”
“That’s not true!” Viktor disputes, but you only despair harder.
“You’ve known me for a week, Viktor. You can’t possibly love me.”
“No,” he says, keeping his arms wrapped tightly around you while you tremble with tears, “but you have shown me a profound amount of kindness in the time we’ve had together. Kindness, and care. You have raised my spirits, and offered me a home for…however long I have left.”
With a wet sniff, you pull away from him. “Would you stay?” you ask, “If you weren’t sick, would you still stay?”
He reaches out and cradles the side of your face with his right hand. “I fear that I may never leave this place,” he admits, “and that I am all too willing to do so. I’ve grown quite fond of this old castle, mostly because of the company it keeps.”
You let the weight of your head rest against his palm, and stare at him with grief and despair beyond what you’ve allowed yourself to feel these past centuries. And yet how it seems all the more bearable simply because you’re not alone now.
“I’ll do it,” you tell him quietly. “If you still want to be turned, I'll do it.”

Upgrading Lab-mouse cages
This topic goes close to me bc I work in a lab and have hours every day to think about what I can do for these tiny creatures
Lab mice are kept in these cages by standard:
Tumblr media
The minimum legal enrichment (at least in germany) is a nest, something to climb, something to chew, and a way to socialize. This cage has a hut for a nest, the top bars for climbing and the hardened pellets for chewing
In my opinion that's both unfitting and not enough. There's some very simple changes and a lot of bigger/harder changes:
Simple changes:
Using wooden or paper huts. It's commonly believed that mice can't see red, but in reality they will always choose darker colours and more natural materials as hides
lowering the light in one part of the cage, eg simple cage sleeves, lowering the general room light, shading the rack
raising the temperature. Mouse are generally kept at 21 - 24°C, but really prefer 26 - 30°C
scanning the room for ultra sounds
scattering some grains for foraging (this is also perfect for training the mice to make health checks easier)
Other still very simple changes:
adding nesting materials. Mouse prefer paper scraps, paper towels, etc, but there's also cotton squares and wood wool commercially available
adding wood for chewing. Again there's many options ranging from wooden bricks over wooden huts to whole branches
adding a running plate or wheel (I know running plates are said to cause spinal deformity, but in my experience that is a very low chance as opposed to the negative effects no movement has)
adding more bedding so digging is easier
adding tubes, boxes, swings and climbing structures
Tumblr media
Changes that get closer to pet keeping:
add diggable bedding for builing nests and tunnels
add more huts. More! Mooore! (seriously mouse love a cluttered space and feel most comfortable walking along walls)
add a second layer (most easy part is just wedging a wooden board in there) and raising the top bars (there's raised cage tops for more height)
adding a maze/labyrinth to allow the mice to compartimentalise their cage/hide from light, sounds, movement, etc
stopping to feed ad libitum. In comercial setting, this can be done with feeding machines, privately this can be done by feeding like any other pet (adding a bowl of fresh food twice a day and removing after an hour or two)
scatter feeding instead of having the food in a rack
adding a digging box
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Changes for pet keeping:
Going at least one, better two sizes up with the cages
adding toys
adding more mice to the group (in research most mice are kept in groups of 2 to 5. Mice prefer bigger groups though (plus "two" is a pair, not a group))
adding a big, big layer of bedding (see previous category)
adding toys, including food toys, smell toys, etc
giving food treats like yogurt, comercial treats, varied food, dead or life insects (mice are good hunters!)
feeding grains and similar (if you're unsure about a balanced diet, feeding grains additionally to pellets is totally fine)
adding a bigger wheel or running plate (a wheel is better, if you can provide a good one with appropriate size)
offer a free run time. This could for example be in a bath tub. Lay it out with linen or carpets, fill the tub with toys, treats and cardboard boxes, and offer the mice to go there (eg by builing a stairwell, or by training them "taxi" with a travel box)
spend regular time with them to aclimate them to humans
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Changes for a near perfect enclosure:
Upgrate to an aquarium with a grid top
add more climbing options. Like way more!
Put heavier huts on stilts
Add even more tunnels
provide fresh food
change up their enrichment (eg digging box, swimming pool, fresh plants, offer tea additionally to water)
Tumblr media
All these images have good and bad items, and imo all enclosures can be adapted to the housed animals needs. I'll try to add credit, but please message me if you have questions about specific images
I was about to add sources but found some great in a single site: here
I also always recommend bin cages as they are cheap and very very customisable. The best example I found is this one

“If you still want to be turned, I’ll do it.”

Unveiling the Best Bikini and Swimwear: A Guide to Stunning Beachwear
Tumblr media
As summer approaches, the hunt for the best bikini and swimwear begins. With a plethora of options available, finding the perfect swimwear that complements your body and style can be a thrilling yet challenging endeavor. This guide will walk you through everything you need to know to discover the best bikini and swimwear, ensuring you’re beach-ready with confidence and flair.
The Best Bikini and Swimwear for Different Body Types
Understanding your body type is the first step in finding the best bikini and swimwear. Here’s how to choose the perfect fit for different body shapes:
Hourglass Figures
For those with an hourglass figure, the best bikini and swimwear options highlight your balanced proportions. Opt for bikinis with supportive underwires and high-waisted bottoms to accentuate your waist. Triangle tops and string bikinis are also great choices.
Pear Shapes
If you have a pear-shaped body, the best bikini and swimwear will balance your wider hips and narrower shoulders. Look for tops with eye-catching details like ruffles or bright patterns. Pair these with solid-colored bottoms or those with a higher cut to elongate your legs.
Apple Shapes
Apple-shaped bodies benefit from the best bikini and swimwear that provide support and structure. Tankinis and one-piece swimsuits with built-in tummy control can create a flattering silhouette. Deep V-necklines and ruching can draw attention upward and create a slimming effect.
Athletic Shapes
For those with an athletic build, the best bikini and swimwear will add curves and femininity. Consider bikinis with padding, ruffles, or bold prints. High-cut leg openings and cheeky bottoms can also help enhance your curves.
2024 Swimwear Trends
Staying trendy is part of the fun in selecting the best bikini and swimwear. Here are some of the hottest trends for 2024:
Sustainable Fashion
Eco-conscious swimwear is taking the fashion world by storm. The best bikini and swimwear options now include pieces made from recycled materials. These sustainable choices not only look great but also help protect our oceans.
Vibrant Colors and Prints
Bright, bold colors and striking prints are in vogue this year. From neon shades to tropical patterns, the best bikini and swimwear will make you stand out on the beach.
Retro Vibes
Vintage-inspired swimwear is back in style. Think high-waisted bottoms, halter necklines, and polka dot prints. These retro designs offer a blend of nostalgia and modern flair, making them some of the best bikini and swimwear choices this season.
Minimalist Chic
For those who prefer a more subdued look, minimalist swimwear is also trending. Solid colors, simple silhouettes, and sleek lines define the best bikini and swimwear for a sophisticated, timeless appeal.
Tips for Finding the Best Bikini and Swimwear
No matter the style, the best bikini and swimwear must fit well and make you feel confident. Here are some tips to ensure you find the perfect swimsuit:
Prioritize Comfort and Fit
Always prioritize comfort and fit over trends. The best bikini and swimwear should feel good on your skin and provide the necessary support. Adjustable straps, secure closures, and high-quality fabrics are essential.
Mix and Match
Mixing and matching tops and bottoms can help you find the best bikini and swimwear for your unique body. Don’t be afraid to experiment with different combinations to achieve the perfect fit.
Consider Your Activities
Think about what activities you’ll be doing in your swimwear. The best bikini and swimwear for lounging by the pool might differ from those needed for active swimming or beach volleyball. Choose styles that suit your summer plans.
Check Fabric and Care Instructions
High-quality fabrics like nylon and spandex blends offer durability and comfort. Always check the care instructions to ensure your best bikini and swimwear last throughout the season.
Conclusion
Finding the best bikini and swimwear is all about understanding your body, staying updated with trends, and focusing on fit and comfort. Whether you’re drawn to vibrant prints, retro styles, or minimalist designs, there’s a perfect swimsuit out there for you. Embrace the summer with confidence by choosing the best bikini and swimwear that showcases your style and flatters your figure. Dive into the season with the perfect beachwear and make a splash wherever you go!
