Russian UFC fighter weighs in on Koran-burning row
Khamzat Chimaev said Muslims in Sweden should be shown respect after far-right figure Rasmus Paludan publicly burned a copy of the holy book
Russian-born UFC fighter Khamzat Chimaev has said Muslims cannot look the other way after a far-right political was permitted to publicly burn a copy of the Koran in Chimaev’s adopted homeland of Sweden. Danish-Swedish lawyer Rasmus Paludan, who leads the right-wing ‘Stram Kurs’ (Hard Line) party in Denmark, set fire to the book on Saturday near the Turkish Embassy in Stockholm. Police had permitted Paludan to carry out the desecration of the Muslim holy book, despite an outcry from Turkish officials and criticism from among the Swedish political elite. Chimaev, 28 made his feelings clear in an Instagram post to his 4.7 million followers on Sunday. “He is a terrorist for us,” wrote the fighter in Swedish, sharing an image of Paludan holding a copy of the Koran.
Chimaev signaled his fury online.

“I am Muslim but have never been against anybody’s religion and have never done what he’s done to anybody’s religion. Why do you let him do this Sweden?” added the MMA star, along with a series of ‘thumbs-down’ emojis. “We all shouldn’t keep quiet, you call us brothers so show us some respect.” Chimaev was born in Chechnya but moved to Sweden in his late teens and fights out of the Allstars Gym in Stockholm. Throughout his rise in the UFC – where he has won all six of his fights to date – Chimaev has maintained close contact with his Chechen birthplace and is often seen alongside local leader Ramzan Kadyrov and his family.

Chimaev was far from the only figure to be angered by the actions of Paludan. Protesters set a Swedish flag ablaze in Istanbul later on Saturday in response to the actions of the far-right figure. The row also comes as Sweden and Finland bid to join military alliance NATO – of which Türkiye is already a member. NATO members must give unanimous consent before any new nations are admitted into the alliance.

“The same hand that can write a beautiful poem, can knock you out with one punch”
The origin of boxing as a sport, may be its acceptance by the ancient Greeks as an Olympic game. But earlier boxing records are depicted in Sumerian carvings in Iraq, while an ancient Egyptian relief depicts two fist-fighters and spectators.
Other examples can also be found in Assyrian and Babylonian art but back in 2017, Iraq Solidarity News (Al-Thawra) reported how Iraqi athletes have been competing in Mixed Martial Arts events in the country's capital, Baghdad.
“As the audience cheers, judges look on using a points system to evaluate the fighters in a number of categories including striking and defence. Tournaments see professional fighters fighting it out in the ring with players taking part in each competition.”
Events are held at the Yarmouk Leisure Club in western Baghdad. The full contact sport includes elements of wrestling, boxing as well as other martial art disciplines. This sport came to Iraq in 2011 and such sporting events are held by organizations like the Iraqi Combat Fighting Championship.
Amir Albazi’s journey to become the first Iraqi man fighting for the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) may have been tougher than any of his bouts to date.
The rising talent in professional mixed martial arts (MMA) was born in Baghdad but grew up in Sweden, after his family fled Iraq to escape Saddam Hussein’s authoritarian regime.
As the BBC reported back in December, Albazi arrived in the Nordic country as a boy who could not speak a word of Swedish - and he experienced severe culture shock in his new surroundings.
“In school, I couldn’t understand what people were saying, but I could tell they were making fun of me,” he told the BBC. “The only way I could express myself was with my fists.”
The 29-year-old said his world was transformed when, by chance, he found MMA on TV. It was love at first sight. As a professional, Albazi is known by his ring name, “The Prince” - a translation of his Arabic first name.
He now has almost 15 years of experience in the sport and wants to become the first Iraqi and Arab champion in the UFC’s history. “I feel a great responsibility on my shoulders being the only Iraqi in the UFC. I feel as if I am representing my country and the whole Arab world,” he said.
Following years of hard work, It was a historic day for the Iraqi Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IRAQMMAF) as it received official recognition from the Iraqi National Olympic Committee.
An election also took place to determine the federation’s board, where Raad Jameel was elected as president and Haydar Mahdi as vice president. Ahmed Jameel will serve as the Secretary, with Salwan Raheem, Mohamad Dawod, Hammen Tahsyn, and Basma Jabar all confirmed to be members of the board.
Since receiving recognition, IRAQMMAF has been actively planning for the future, hosting the first meeting of the executive board to discuss the development of coaches and athletes by making courses readily available.
As IMMAF reported on April 10th, the first training session of the national team also took place, led by the coaching staff and the national wrestling team captain, Samir Mahdi.
The IRAQMMAF has already been active on the IMMAF circuit, debuting at the 2021 World Championships before going on to feature at the 2022 Asian Championships and World Championships. The federation has big plans for the future of the sport in Iraq, and the recent achievement of recognition will be a major factor in those plans.

Rick Flag - Colonel Rick Flag sat down in my head following seeing that atrocious Suicide Squad sequel and basically said ‘it’s a bitch when your heart stops and starts again, Malone wanna get me out of here?’ So apparently he’s been working with Justice undercover for a while now, even going so far as to have microbot trackers in his blood stream which are connected to Section 1 and directly to Avery. Following Waller trying to have him killed, he turns her over directly to Section, giving Justice the rest of the info on the prison, the meta-humans and begins forming a squad to go rescue Harley from wherever she’s wound up being held. Following the events in Midway City from the first film, Dr. June Monroe was unfortunately a casualty of the horrific things she not only did but was subjected to and Rick somehow or another sought out comfort with the unlikely Harley Quinn. Waller found out the two were sleeping together which is why they were put on the Suicide Squad.
Abraham Jarl Horn - Swedish kickboxer and MMA fighter. He’s one of Jasper’s more reviled opponents, and like Jaz, Jarl has a reputation of never backing down. He’s the opponent for the New Orleans fight. While he did grow up in Norway/Finland, he’s currently living in Ontario, Canada and is in the US on a visa after being signed by a high profile gym. He has a girlfriend whom he adores, despite most people not seeming to believe that they are really together, she’s not the type most people assume he should be with. Harmony calls him Rama, rather than Jarl or sometimes in addition to it. He’s also a painter and a bit of a gamer, having a troll monk he’s not played since Draenor, but it’s still there.
John Knox - Lorelei’s twin brother, John is 26 and typically plays guitar and sings backup, though he has written a few songs and sings a few on the album himself. John has Type 2 diabetes he didn’t know he had until he attempted to join the army after graduating high school at 18. While he was going through boot camp he collapsed and when he came back around again he was hooked up to an IV fluid drip and the doctor on site asked him why he didn’t mention it on his intake forms. Since he had no idea, his parents came to get him from Fort Benning. It was about six months later that Lori called their parents about her ex-husband and Levi’s father, beating her. He and his uncles went out to Las Vegas to deal with that problem and bring Lori home.
Raine Lennox - I don’t know much about him just yet but what I do know is he’s a Philosophy professor at the University of Chicago.

What do you get if you cross Celebrity Big Brother with Saw? The answer is Funhouse, my scary movie for today.
Obviously made on a shoestring budget (the B camera op was the assistant A camera op; the location scouts were the writer/director and the exec producer), Funhouse looks a bit like a television episode, which actually works in its favour. Eight international celebrities (online influencers, an MMA fighter, a rapper, ex-reality show stars, a former star of a cult TV series) find themselves on a streaming reality show, where those voted “out” are murdered in many gruesome and slightly creative ways, all at the behest of a mysterious, wealthy madman.
The characters are actually likable, which makes their deaths hit harder than a “rah rah! kill the vapid instagrammer!” which would have been an easy way to go. The visuals are really good given the small budget, mixing practical and CG effects. I realise it’s royalty-free music, but as soon as the movie opened with Beethoven’s Moonlight sonata I thought, whoa--ambitious. That’s not a piece of music you throw around lightly, IMO. But the film delivers--good writing, mostly decent acting, typical slasher-level gore and violence.
If you like a thriller with some bloody bits, it’s for you. Solid.
This Swedish actor, Valter Skarsgard, is on the come-up. He’s the best actor in this movie by a long shot.

Ok so for this hypothetical muppets game I’ve created as a joke. It is set in a high fantasy world. Puppets live alongside humans. Yes there are orc and elves and what have you and there are puppets of all of them because the puppets are seamlessly integrated into their culture. You play as Kermit the Frog, a hardened mage yes in a big hat, trying to get his adventuring party back together for one last hurrah before he retires. You first meet Miss Piggy, a fighter who has mastered hand to hand combat. You know she’s got brass knuckles. Piggy at first doesn’t want to travel, having found her niche as a fantasy MMA fighter/model, but Kermit’s personality convinces her. Then you meet Fozzy, the reluctant barbarian, who barely knows how to swing his own axe. He’s been moonlighting as a comedian in the local tavern, but his jokes can’t seem to land ever since he left the party. You eventually run into other muppets like Gonzo the Palladin, Rowlf the Bard, Scooter the Ranger, and Rizzo the thief. Electric Mayhem is a group of fighters turned bards, never forgetting their fighting past. The Swedish Chef was once a feared swordsman, but chooses to cook for the group now instead. Throughout the journey, they reconnect, and Kermit begins to realize that maybe he had missed the party more than he knew.
On the other hand, I also have thought that you could customize your own muppet, and go through the same progression, and Kermit is either the first to join (as your muppet mentor guiding you through the game) or the last (sad, slightly jaded, doesn’t want to join without all his friends)
I have not figured out a villain for our brave heroes to fight yet but I am certain it will be defeated with the power of love and song.
Each member of your party can come with you on quests or can be left behind at your home base (Kermit’s house aka the muppet theater) and can be upgraded via leveling and equipment/spells. You can also obtain different outfits. There are numerous side quests alongside the main quest, which are encouraged as it raised the bonds between the characters.
Anyway please fund my muppets open world fantasy RPG I don’t know anything about programming or making video games but I’m certain I could hire someone who does

I think a lot of male football fans behave like this unfortunately, in many countries, at least in Europe. I was once at an mma gala and there were these 19 year old boys from Poland who were invited pretty much for the Swedish fighters to practice on. There were like hoards of men standing by the cage, yelling for them to tear them apart and kill them… I was kind of shocked at the level of aggression, it was like they were at some gladiator games.
I just think there are a lot of people who are used to having an outlet for aggressive behaviour and/or fighting, and they do it for example when watching sport, have gotten used to it. In general, not saying the Vllaznia fans were doing that. I agree though that in this case the Vllaznia fans could have been more respectful. Absolutely shouldn’t throw things or yell insults. Vllaznia are not a well known team in Europe so the fans also represent both their team and their country whether they want to or not.
I think when you mix passion for your country and sports things are going to happen. I don't watch Mens soccer very often so maybe im just not used to seeing the aggressiveness. While I applaud their dedication I just think they went a bit to far.
Also that mma experience seems like it was terrifying 😬 ive been to fights and the level of aggression male fans reach is concerning.
