Why I'd like you to consider voting for me on Thursday - what I've done in the last two years
Why I'd like you to consider voting for me on Thursday #SurreyHeath2015 #FrimleyGreen
Plenty of politicians ask for your vote based on what they will do for you.
Below are some of the things I have done over the past two years – as a member of the public – to show that I am committed to working for the people of Surrey Heath and Frimley Green.
I have attended all but one of the County Council Local Area Committee public meetings(giving me the same attendance record as the vice…

Surrey Heath Youth Council Hustings
Thoughts on the Surrey Heath Youth Council Hustings #SurreyHeath2015
Wednesday night saw the final Hustings event in Surrey Heath.  It took place at Camberley Theatre and was organised by the Surrey Heath Youth Council.
Six of the seven candidates took part, with only Michael Gove a no-show, although there was a stand-in.
In preparation for the event SHYC has asked their members what were the 5 key issues that they wanted answering, with the results as follows;

What on Earth has the EU got to do with the local council?
What on Earth has the EU got to do with the local council? #SurreyHeath2015
Below is a re-blog of a post I wrote a year or so ago.  As we’re coming up to the Local Elections as well as the General Election, I thought it was worth repeating [edits from last time in parentheses] . . .
What on Earth has UKIP’s anti-Europe policies got to do with the local council?
This was a comment I saw on a chat room post last week and it occurred to me that if the writer of the post…

Response to request from the Surrey Mummy web site
Response to request from the Surrey Mummy web site on how UKIP plans to help families #SurreyHeath2015
Last week I was asked to put forward some ideas of how UKIP policy would help the families of Surrey.  My reply was published on their website today, but I thought I’d share it here too;
Hello,
Thanks for contacting me via Twitter and giving me the opportunity to respond to how I, and UKIP, will help families in Surrey.
Of course every family situation is different and different policies will…

If not blue then who?
So far I have only received the Labour parliamentary candidate’s election address through the post; but I am aware from the number of calls, texts and emails of support that I’ve received, that my address has started to be delivered across the Borough too which is very exciting.
One point that was made on the aforementioned Labour address was that, since “there are twice as many Labour…

Frimley Green, Deepcut & Mytchett Hustings
Friday saw the second hustings event for Surrey Heath Parliamentary Candidates, following the AGM of the Mytchett, Frimley Green and Deepcut Society.
All seven candidates took part in the event, although Michael Gove had to leave after about 45 minutes as he had a memorial service for a long standing friend to attend.  The rest of us continued on for another hour.
The event was well run by the…

The Guide 2 Camberley - full response
The Guide 2 Camberley - full response. #SurreyHeath2015
Back in mid-March I was asked to submit my response to a couple of questions from “The Guide 2″ as UKIP Parliamentary Candidate for Surrey Heath.
The two questions were very open-ended;
What issues are you/your party aiming to address in Surrey Heath? and Which of your party’s Key Policies apply most to the area?
My response, and those of some of the other candidates in Surrey Heath, and beyond,…

Winner Takes All
Winner Takes All - how vote share doesn't always translate into seats #SurreyHeath2015
The debate about First Past The Post versus some sort of Proportional Representation or Alternative Vote mechanism has raged for years.
It’s widely recognised that FPTP favours the major parties over the smaller ones and this is evident in a chart from YouGov that appeared on Twitter recently;
  That the SNP and ‘others’ might, between them, garner half the number of votes of UKIP but be…

Every Vote Counts
Every Vote Counts - make sure you're registered. #SurreyHeath2015 #VoteUKIP
  Thanks to a tweet I spotted earlier (from whom I pinched the above graphic), the deadline for registering to vote is 20th April.
But you can see from the picture, that this is only half the battle.  Even those that are registered don’t always vote. Here’s what I had to say on this topic, in a recent podcast recorded for Surrey Heath Residents Network.

The Case for Science and Engineering
The Case for Science and Engineering #VoteUKIP, @sciencecampaign #SurreyHeath2015
With the Six Nations Rugby in full swing, I was chatting to a friend about how Rugby caters for all types of people within its framework. There are roles and positions for tall and short, light and fast, heavy and strong, those fleet of foot and those dogged and robust. All encompassed within the sphere of the game of Rugby. My friend commented that he couldn’t think of another place that…

A Gift for David Cameron
A Gift for David Cameron - why he can't duck a serious TV debate #SurreyHeath2015 #ChickenDave
Politics is a shady business.
To quote Jeffrey Pelt from The Hunt For Red October “Listen, I’m a politician which means I’m a cheat and a liar, and when I’m not kissing babies I’m stealing their lollipops”.
The political landscape is filled – now more than ever – with soundbites and photo ops, stage-managed events, press releases and sanitised Q&A sessions.
For the most part we, as the general…

Second Jobs for MPs - My Thoughts
Second Jobs for MPs - My Thoughts #SurreyHeath2015
There’s been a lot in the news in recent days about MPs and whether or not they should have second (or third or fourth or fifth) jobs, so I wanted to let you know my thoughts;
An MP’s first job and main focus must be to their constituents, however in principle I am OK with MPs having second jobs.
MPs do have some spare time, and time some weekends, when they should be free to do whatever they…

An Hour With Kevin Hurley - Surrey Police and Crime Commissioner
An Hour With Kevin Hurley - Surrey Police and Crime Commissioner thanks to @kvnbhrly1 #SurreyHeath2015
Last Wednesday I had the pleasure of spending an hour (and a bit) with Surrey Police & Crime Commissioner (PCC) Kevin Hurley.
Although he is a busy man, he was very generous with his time and talked at length about the way policing now works, what he would like to change, where pressures are being most felt.
He was critical of the present government and of the funding formula that sees Surrey…

Theft From Cars In Frimley Green - A Warning
Theft From Cars In Frimley Green - A Warning to residents in the area.
A quick note of warning to people in Frimley Green.
When I parked my car on my drive on Sunday afternoon I must have forgotten to lock the doors – I was busy moving stuff between the car and the garage and it slipped my mind.
When I came to get in the car this morning to go to work I found that someone had been in the car looking for items of value to steal.
The glove box had been emptied onto…
