WHEN: march 30, 2023 WHERE: spector’s ethereum coffee bar; obsidian city WHO: dusty + zyrynd ( @screamingspector )
“Fancy finding you here,” the Hallmark greeting rolled off Dusty’s tongue, as a large pair of sunglasses glided down the bridge of her nose to reveal her face. In actuality, Dusty had planned to corner him here. Whether it be today, tomorrow, or the very next day -- whenever he showed up to check in on his busiest location. Dusty didn’t go to business school but had seen enough episodes of Undercover Boss to know regular visits equaled success. Uncrossing her legs, the heels of her boots clamored against the tiled floors as she rose to her feet. “You and I are taking a cruise today. I wouldn’t wear cashmere and I’d invest in a snorkel.” You couldn’t always tell what was and wasn’t literal with the vampire. She swirled her iced ethereum latte around, cubes filling the silence between them. “You too busy?” seemed to be the silliest question to ask Zyrynd Spector but she did it anyways.

Dukes, Dukes.
I was very inspired by a small flash mob from @rkaln, @darkyukifr, @leo-a-nb When they started sharing first works... I wanted to track the evolution of mine OC, because I REMEMBER EXACTLY WHEN I DREW MYSELF FOR THE FIRST TIME! But Realizing that this is a boring story I will leave here only 2 key pics (from 13y.o me, 20 y.o me before changing my style again).

Blue Mountains
Sitting on our little balcony by the plunge pool this morning and looking out across Manly harbour, conditions looked good. The sea was calm, and that strong breeze that had been plaguing the fixed nature of our hats had gone. So had the first ferry of the day; I watched Clontarf leave it's mooring at the wharf heading towards Circular Quays.
Our plan today was to go to the Blue Mountains. We have been to Katoomba, which is the place most people will head to, being a starting place to view the Three Sisters rock formation and also to ride the cable cars of Scenic World. Some of that would require a lot of sleep time gained by an extremely early start, so instead, we decided to get off the train at Wentworth Falls. The train leaves Sydney Central Station and wends its way west to the mountains, taking about 2.5 hrs in the process. So add that time to the hour it would take to get the Central, and you've got quite a serious journey ahead of you. Good news, though, is that there's a $9.25 cap on NSW travelling over the weekend. Seven hours travelling for the two of us for ten quid is a bargain. As we emerged from the train there was an immense clap of thunder as the skies darkened. We ate our sandwiches in silence, expecting the accompanying deluge. Happily it didn't come.
The village of Wentworth derived its name from William Wentworth, who in 1813 was the first to traverse the mountains along with Gregory Blaxland. But hang on, we get ahead of ourselves here. Our William has quite an interesting background. His father, D'Arcy Wentworth, a member of the aristocracy, and his mother Catherine Crowley, were on the HMS Surprize in 1790, part of the Second Fleet, also to be known as 'The Death Fleet' due to the high mortality rate on Surprize, Neptue, and Scarborough, his mother, technically unmarried, was being shipped to Australia as a convict. D'Arcy avoided prosecution for Highway Robbery and therefore conviction by accepting a position as assistant surgeon in NSW. Somehow, William was accepted into society by his father's blagging, acknowledging him as a legitimate son. Nice one. Anyway, clearly, the boy, despite being born at sea on a convict ship, ultimately done good! He was returned to England for an education, returns in 1810 riding his father's horse to victory in the first official horse race in Australia, gets made Provost Marshall by Lachlan Macquarie in 1811 along with 1750 acres of land, goes back Cambridge to study law, returns to Australia, and becomes an advocate for reform. He marries a client, Sarah, who was a currency lass, a term given to first-generation white people born in Australia. He had defended her in 1825 on a Breach of Promise case. They went on to have 10 children. Among many other achievements in 1853, he chaired a committee to draft a new constitution for New South Wales, which was to receive full responsible self-government from Britain. He led an exemplary life, returning to Britain in 1854, became a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, and died in 1872 in Wimborne, England, but given the first ever state funeral in Sydney and subsequently buried in Vaucluse, Sydney. I might have skipped a bit there, but this is one interesting life.
Moving on from this starting point in our own little exploration, we determined to follow the Charles Darwin Walk. This is a path that the great man followed in 1836. The walk follows the length of Jamison Creek, flowing over Wentworth Falls into the Jamison Valley, and eventually making its way to Lake Burragorang - Sydney's water supply source. Obviously, we didn't have time to do all that; it was enough to follow in his footsteps as far as the falls. It was an interesting walk through swamp and riparian vegetation. The birdlife was good with a glimpse of many multicoloured parakeets and eventually opening out into very lovely residential areas and the magnificent far-reaching vistas that we had come to see. Most worrisome perhaps was the rain pouring visibly from clouds away in the distance where the thunder clearly was coming from, and the thought that it could be coming our way. The Blue Mountains, so named for the blue haze that surrounds them. The haze is caused by an optical phenomenon called Rayleigh scattering, which occurs when oil droplets from the area's eucalyptus trees combine with water vapour and dust particles in the atmosphere. That's the technical bit, and combined with the low cloud/ mist that hung in the valley above the trees, Blue definitely came to mind.
Then it was back to the village for coffee and a vast vanilla slice before jumping back on the train to Sydney, this time the express. The rain hadn't noticed us, and remained on someone else's parade.
A rushed but enjoyable day, which we would rather view as reconnoitre for a much slower, more thorough expedition on a future visit.
ps. Queen Elizabeth is in CQ.
