Essential Considerations for Designing Basement Carpark Ventilation
Tumblr media
Basements, particularly those housing car parks, present unique challenges for ventilation. Poor air quality can lead to a host of problems:
Health Hazards: Carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, and other vehicle emissions can pose serious health risks to occupants and staff.
Corrosion: Corrosive fumes can damage vehicles, infrastructure, and equipment.
Discomfort: Stagnant air, unpleasant odors, and high temperatures can create an unpleasant and unsafe environment.
Effective ventilation is crucial to mitigate these issues. Here are some essential considerations for designing basement car park ventilation systems:
1. Air Quality Assessment:
Identify Sources of Pollutants: Analyze the types and volumes of vehicles expected, traffic patterns, and potential sources of other pollutants (e.g., construction materials, nearby industries).
Determine Required Air Exchange Rates: Calculate the volume of fresh air needed to dilute pollutants to acceptable levels. This will vary based on the size of the car park, vehicle density, and local regulations.
2. Ventilation System Selection:
Mechanical Ventilation:
Supply and Exhaust: This is the most common approach, involving dedicated fans to supply fresh air and exhaust stale air.
Jet Fans: High-velocity jets of air can be used to direct airflow and improve mixing.
Natural Ventilation:
Stack Effect: Utilize natural temperature differences to induce airflow through strategically placed openings.
Wind-Driven Ventilation: Harness wind energy to create airflow through carefully designed openings.
3. System Design and Placement:
Air Distribution: Ensure even distribution of fresh air throughout the car park. Avoid stagnant areas and localized pollutant concentrations.
Exhaust Locations: Place exhaust outlets strategically to effectively remove pollutants and prevent recirculation.
Intake Locations: Locate fresh air intakes away from pollutant sources to minimize the intake of contaminated air.
4. Control Systems:
Automated Controls: Implement automated controls to adjust ventilation rates based on real-time air quality measurements, vehicle occupancy, and other factors.
Monitoring Systems: Install sensors to monitor air quality parameters (e.g., carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, particulate matter) and trigger alarms if levels exceed acceptable limits.
5. Energy Efficiency:
Energy-Efficient Fans: Select high-efficiency fans to minimize energy consumption.
Demand-Controlled Ventilation: Adjust ventilation rates based on actual demand, rather than running systems at full capacity continuously.
Heat Recovery: Consider incorporating heat recovery systems to capture and utilize waste heat from the exhaust air.
6. Maintenance and Inspections:
Regular Maintenance: Schedule regular maintenance checks and cleaning of ventilation equipment to ensure optimal performance.
Inspections: Conduct periodic air quality inspections to identify and address any issues.
7. Compliance with Regulations:
Building Codes: Ensure compliance with all relevant building codes and regulations related to ventilation, air quality, and fire safety.
Local Standards: Adhere to local air quality standards and guidelines.
By carefully considering these factors, building owners and designers can create a healthy, safe, and comfortable environment in basement car parks. Investing in effective ventilation systems not only improves air quality and occupant well-being but also protects valuable assets and minimizes the risk of costly damage.

The Critical Role of Building Service Management in Modern Infrastructure
Tumblr media
Picture coming to work in a tall building during a hot summer and the AC isn’t fixed, the elevator not functioning and the fire alarms are not working. Sounds chaotic, right? In this scenario, it becomes evident that Building Service Management is a critical component that is usually neglected. It is not only maintaining a building’s lights, but every piece of equipment within a building to operate most efficiently and effectively for the comfort and safety of the people in the building.
Today, cities are growing constantly and developing rapidly, and the demand for effective Building Service Management is higher than ever. Under a complex web of construction structures and systems, these facilities are proving to be very challenging to manage and they demand professional skills and knowledge. Thus, a Building Management course will serve as the individual guide to becoming skilled in this field and growing in their career.
Understanding Building Service Management
Building Service Management entails the designing of all systems and services, the putting in place, and the sustained examination and supervision of all structures to ensure that they are efficient and safe for use. This covers electrical wiring, heating, ventilating, air conditioning (HVAC), plumbing, fire protection systems, and even lifts. A Building Service Manager is supposed to manage all these systems efficiently to provide comfort and safety to the occupants.
The Role of Building Services
A well-managed building is therefore not only the face of the organization but a commercial structure with set functionality and environmental footprint. Effective Building Service Management is essential for several reasons:

Specific duties of Building Service Managers include inspecting the safety systems including fire alarms, emergency lighting, and sprinkler systems to ascertain their operational and regulatory conformity.
Comfort: Comfort is important to the occupants of any structure irrespective of one’s type or use be it an office or commercial building, residential apartment, or even a hospital. The operation of HVAC systems and lighting fixtures, and water supply management all guarantee comfortable shelter spaces for living or working.
Energy Efficiency: As the concerns of the environment continue to rise, Building Service Managers hold a special responsibility of ensuring the building incorporates energy-efficient systems that address the many expenses of energy such as heating and the social cost of carbon. This involves new renewable energy supply, smart forms of production and utilization, and energy management systems.
Cost Management: Optimal building services often cut down operating expenses greatly by avoiding expensive repair and downtime, efficient energy use, and longevity of building services.
The Evolving Role of Building Service Managers
The Building Service Management field was not popular and was not viewed as good work. However, with the rising complexity of buildings and increased emphasis on sustainability, the position of Building Service Managers has changed. With the development of technology, they are viewed as essential to the process of constructing buildings right from the design stage, and construction to maintenance.
Modern Building Service Managers have to be rather versatile and display competencies such as technical, project, as well as sustainability competencies. They require embedded working relationships with architects, engineers, and other stakeholders that would guarantee that all systems in undertaking the construction of building structures, their installation, and continuous maintenance are optimized.
The Future of Building Service Management
Thus, the further evolution of technologies opens positive prospects for Building Service Management. Smart buildings, which are characterized by installed automation and control systems, will dramatically transform the management of buildings. Know When to Replace Your Volkswagen's Spark Plugs
- Misfire, stalling, jerking, backfire…
Tumblr media
… are among the problems that you may have to deal with because of defective spark plugs in your Volkswagen. Early diagnosis of spark plug failure can help you avoid expensive engine repairs down the road. The purpose of writing this blog post is to help you recognize the early signs of spark plug failure in your Volkswagen.
Identifying Spark Plug Failure Signs
Indicator #1- Engine won’t start
Not being able to start a car despite several attempts can be very frustrating… Although a flat battery is the usual suspect for such a problem, the possibility of spark plug failure cannot be ruled out. At the end of the day, it is the spark plug that ignites the air-fuel mixture inside the cylinder. If there is something off with your Volkswagen’s ignition system; particularly with the spark plugs- no matter how hard you try you won’t be able to start it.
Indicator #2- Inconsistent RPM at idle
Your Volkswagen engine RPM count will fluctuate abnormally at idle if some of its spark plugs are not firing as expected. Unstable RPM counts at idle can also point to numerous other issues like a defective idle air control valve, clogged fuel injectors, a broken throttle system, etc… Nevertheless, if your Volkswagen idle RPM count fluctuates beyond the range of 600 to 1000 RPMs, it is advisable that you get its spark plugs tested.
Indicator #3- Sluggish performance
Has your Volkswagen been performing poorly lately and you don't know what the problem is… Well, faulty spark plugs could be the reason why you are facing such a problem. Restricted air or fuel supply to the combustion chamber can also result in sluggish engine performance in a vehicle. Whatever is keeping you from unleashing the true power of your Volkswagen should not be ignored. If you lack the expertise required to get such an issue resolved, don't hesitate to contact your mechanic.
Indicator #4- Increased fuel consumption
Yup, that’s right… Incomplete combustion of air-fuel mixture inside cylinders due to defective spark plugs may trick the engine control module into pumping more fuel into the engine. This will ultimately contribute to increased fuel consumption among other problems. So… of late, if your Volkswagen has been consuming fuel at an alarming rate, it is crucial that you get to the bottom of this problem. Start by inspecting the spark plugs.
Indicator #5- Flashing engine warning light
Anything that interferes with engine functionality and results in increased emissions might prompt the onboard computer to activate the check engine light. And, yes… this is something that most certainly will store a few error codes. To diagnose the issue… all you have to do is use an OBD-II scanner to retrieve the error code and get the issue fixed.
So, there are a few that you will encounter if there is indeed something wrong with your Volkswagen’s spark plugs.
How Safe Is It To Drive A Vehicle With Defective Spark Plugs?
It's not safe... not at all.
At the end of the day, the spark plug is what allows your car's engine to burn the air-fuel mixture in the most efficient manner. So, obviously… if they fail, you will have to deal with all sorts of problems; ranging from misfire to stalling. If not taken care of, these things can result in costly repairs down the road.
Therefore, it is important that you check the spark plugs of your Volkswagen from time to time and if you find any discrepancy, it is better that you contact a service center to get the problem diagnosed. Because if this type of issue is not addressed, it can lead to costly repairs in the future.
Wrapping Things Up…
Your vehicle's ignition system centers around the spark plug. It is because of the spark plug that your car's engine able to burn gasoline – which in turn produces the mechanical torque needed to propel the vehicle. A fault in any of these spark plugs can result in minor performance issues to expensive engine repairs. So, if you don't want your Volkswagen engine to run into trouble, it is crucial that you check on its spark plugs periodically and replace the defective ones whenever necessary.

Introduction to Fire Alarm System
Protecting your building from a fire is of utmost importance for many property owners and managers.  When deciding on the type of fire alarm system for your building, it’s important to understand how the system operates.
This introduction to fire alarm systems helps to define what a fire alarm system is, the elements that make up the system, outlines the two different types of fire alarm systems, and touches on a few of the benefits of having these systems within your building.
WHAT IS A FIRE ALARM SYSTEM?
Your fire alarm system consists of different devices such as heat and/or smoke detectors, and pull stations, which signal to a control panel that a fire has been detected and then alerts building occupants to evacuate through audible and/or visual signalling devices.
COMPONENTS OF A FIRE ALARM SYSTEM
A fire alarm system consists of many different input and output devices, including:
Control Panel – the control panel is the brains of a fire alarm system, which monitors all the system’s inputs. The control panel is also responsible for controlling the actions of the system’s output actions, and relays information to the notification devices.
Power Supply – the power supply of your fire alarm system requires both a primary and back up power supply.
Initiating Devices – these devices are responsible for transmitting a signal to the control panel signaling that there is a possible fire. There are two types:
Automatic – automatic devices consist of detectors that measure or identify the presence of smoke, heat, CO2, and flames.
Manual – these devices need a person to activate them, such as a pull station.
Notification Appliances – notification appliances are made up of visual and audible devices that are used to alert building occupants of a fire.
Building Safety Components – these components manage certain aspects of the building safety infrastructure and are meant to assist people in exiting the building.
Other – there are often other aspects of a fire alarm system including fire doors, sprinklers, elevator recalls, among others. It is also increasingly common to have a building’s fire alarm system be integrated with the building’s security system or other smart building technologies.
 TYPES OF FIRE ALARM SYSTEMS
The two main types of fire alarm systems are conventional and addressable.  Both systems communicate with devices in a similar manner; however, they are unique in how they are connected.
Conventional – In a conventional fire alarm system, the control panel is connected to each device using a separate wire and are typically set up on zones. Utilizing zones helps to narrow down the location of a potential fire.  For example, if your facility has six floors and each floor is set up as a zone, the fire department can determine on which floor the fire is located based on the activated zone.
Addressable – An addressable fire alarm system gives a unique address to each device that is on the system. This allows you to identify the precise location of the activated device and relay that information to the fire department.  In this system, all the devices are connected on one wire that is looped into the control panel.  As a result, even if one section is damaged, the system is still able to relay information to the control panel utilizing the other end of the loop.  Addressable fire alarm systems provide a lot of flexibility and are often used for large facilities.
BENEFITS OF FIRE ALARM SYSTEMS
There are many advantages to installing a fire alarm system in your building, here are just a few:
Warning – fire alarm systems provide audible and visual alerts to give building occupants notice of a potential danger, and prompt them to evacuate the building.
Fire Alarm Monitoring – when used in collaboration with your fire alarm system, fire alarm monitoring ensures that the fire department is notified of a fire at your facility.
Early Detection – a properly functioning fire alarm system makes it possible to quickly detect a fire. When used along side fire alarm monitoring, this allows the fire department to respond quickly, which assists in mitigating building damage or loss of life.
Insurance Discounts – A fire alarm system in your building can be helpful in secure pricing discounts on building insurance.

Magnificent Scoundrels- Soldiers of Fortune
I’ve been a bit busy the last month, so I’ve had less time to write.  My apologies.  I will try my best to get these out sooner.  So, sit back, and I hope you enjoy the story.  As always, I own nothing except Drake and his crew.
Mass Effect Galaxy
Terminus System
The message arrived after midnight, carried by a small starship sent all the way from the Citadel in the galactic center.  On board was one individual.  A SPECTRE.  The elite group of quasi-special forces soldiers that operated outside the normal law, allowed to bring Citadel justice to any major threats to galactic stability.  They were the scouts, the spies, the muscle, the eyes, ears, and arms of the galactic government.  And this particular SPECTRE had been entrusted with a very special mission indeed.  He had been in the Terminus System for many a week now, secretly observing a group of particularly nasty pirates, when he had been ordered to drop everything and bring a message to a very unusual group.  And now, locked in a vault aboard his ship, the message was carried to an unassuming human colony in the most volatile sector of galactic space.  He had been told that he might miss the various people to whom the message was addressed if he did not travel that same night, for the group moved swiftly.  And so that very same night he traveled.
Now, after a jump through the local Relay, his ship arrived at the planet.  A cluster of contacts, large, strange, capital ships, were parked far off in the endless black void of space.  His quarry was still here.  Good.  Carefully, as to not get close enough to the sensors of the alien ships, he slipped quietly into the atmosphere and landed on the planet.  He knew, instantly, where exactly he needed to go, for the night sky was lit with flames that served as a beacon.  Getting out of the sleek starship, weapons at the ready, he walked down the dirt road to the burning town.  A lesser man, or, in this case, Turian, would have been nervous of the sky, seeing the fire twist above the town’s outer walls to fill the night with a depp, churning smoke that was touched a livid red where it was struck by highlights of flames, but he was not.  Or, at least, that is what he told himself.  In truth, he was nervous.  Nervous of meeting these strange new contacts, from different galaxies no less, to deliver a message.  He looked to the pitch black sky again.  He had heard from humans, tales and fables of Hell, and thought to himself that this is what Hell must look like if it existed.  But he was a SPECTRE.  So he walked on.
The flames were centered around the southeaster gate of the town, and casted wild shadows upon the large fortress in the northwest, created to protect the townspeople from pirates and slavers.  The gate itself had been torn off its hinges with such violence that it had come to lay a full ten meters inside the city.  Houses within the city were aflame, their insides gutted and blacked while the hungry flames devoured anything in their path.  The SPECTRE shuddered to think at what force could do something like this, and it was then he saw shadows moving in the town, their forms made eerie by the wild light of the fires.
He shuddered and unholstered his sidearm.  This mission was supposed to be peaceful, but, judging by what was happening around him, he doubted it would end that way.  He passed a corpse of a human woman, completely naked, her throat cut and blood pooling beneath her lifeless form.  Nearby were several others, evidently the colonists who originally lived here, all messily dead.  Further on were dead Batarians.  That made sense.  A race, disdained by all the others, who based their society around slavery.  Colonies like this one were extremely vulnerable, so, despite the unfortunate loss of the colonists themselves, nothing was out of the ordinary.  Until he examined the dead more closely.
None were killed by bullets.  That in itself would be alarming, but the nature of these wounds was more close to terrifying.  Cauterised craters, each ten to twelve centimeters in length, covered the dead Batarian’s torso.  They had passed through the kinetic barriers that all soldiers wore, and punched through the armor, stitching up and down the length of the chest.  Another body’s chest cavity was completely gone, leaving a charred mess, evidently burned away by a weapon of such force that it was able to go through the kinetic barriers, outer armor, bodysuit, and still melt away almost the entire torso.  The SPECTRE was so engrossed with studying the wounds that he did not see a lone Batarian soldier until it was too late.  The Batarian came from behind, knife in hand, and tackled the SPECTRE.  He flailed, reaching for a pistol that was no longer in his hand, the Batarian’s knife inching inexorably towards his face, until, suddenly, mercifully, it stopped, and the Batarian made a choking, gurgling nose, and flopped over, stone cold dead.  The SPECTRE shrugged of his assailant, only to see a figure, clad in shining grey armor that reflected the lurid light of the flames onto the ground below.  It was humanoid in appearance, and its face was covered by a helmet of similar colored armor.  It outstretched a hand to help him up, and he took it, slowly, hesitantly.  The figure looked as if it was going to say something, but it was cut off by the arrival of two new shapes.  They were like nothing he had ever seen.  They were humans, that much was obvious, but they were wearing old-fashioned looking grey-blue armor around their torsos, and nothing else.  No barriers, no full body suits, not even anything to protect their arms and legs.  In their hands were oversized, blocky black rifles of a type he’d never seen before.  Both the weapons and armor were emblazoned with a golden double-headed eagle, wings spread wide, a symbol he had never seen before.  The woman in front looked at him with distaste then spoke to the figure in grey.
“Sir?  Are you alright?”
“Never better.”  The voice was that of a human man, and the SPECTRE looked closer at him, but the armor was still not familiar.  The soldiers in grey-blue turned to look at him.
“What do we do with this one?  Kill him?”  The grey armored human rubbed his head with exasperation.
“You can’t just go around killing everyone.”  He turned to the SPECTRE and spoke.  “Who are you and what are you doing here?  This is not exactly a good place to be right now.”  This was accompanied by a vague hand wave at all the destruction around them.
“I’m a Council SPECTRE, and I bear a message addressed to a group calling themselves the Magnificent Scoundrels, addressed to the various governments they serve.”  The grey armored man laughed, a high, clear, clean laugh that seemed greatly at odds with the carnage surrounding them.
“Well then, you seem to be in the right place.”  He stuck out a hand.  “Admiral Adam Vir of the GA.  A pleasure to meet you.  My compatriots should be somewhere around here.  Come on.”  He took off in a double time, and the bewildered Turian followed, with the two other soldiers giving each other dubious glances before taking up the rear.
They passed the ruins of more homes, their timbers burned away by fire and walls crushed by explosive power.  Shopfronts were gone, their glass windows shattered and insides tattered.  The group passed more grey-blue soldiers, patrolling the streets, staring suspiciously at anything that moved, the golden eagles on their breastplates displayed prominently.  The farther they went into the city, the more they started to see different people.  Humans, in ragged clothes, their faces gaunt, evidently the civilians who originally lived here walked numbly through the ruins of their town.  Others, wearing mis-matched pieces of dark armor, with a flame decal on their shoulder pads, walked through the destruction.
“Careful.  It gets a little deadly around here,” said the Admiral as they slid their way through the rubble.  In the distance, there was a shout, followed by a high pitched, whining crackle.  Some sort of communications device hummed to life within the Admiral’s armor, and a human voice cut through the night.
“All hostels within section 3-4 have been neutralized.”  This was followed by a chorus of acknowledgments.  What the hell was going on here?  Batarians, like most pirates and slavers, only ever fought hit and run.  This seemed to be a massive battle for the town, with at least three distinct factions involved.
He suddenly heard a noise behind him, and, to his horror, saw a Batarian, weapon outstretched, pointing it directly at the group.  By the time he got his own sidearm up, he would already be dead.  It was too far out of reach, and too slow to get to.  He saw the Batarian’s trigger finger tighten, and he waited for the snap of the gun and the light of the muzzle flash.  It grinned, knowing it had him, and he waited for death.  It began to squeeze, and-
Exploded.  A force of such power struck the Batarian that its torso and lower head literally ceased to exist, instead becoming a spray of blood and viseria that decorated a nearby wall.  The legs, unsupported, toppled over and the arms, torn from their sockets, fell to the ground with a weak thud.  The Admiral and the two other unnamed soldiers turned to face it.
“Holy shit.  Cain and Drake were not lying about that gun…” muttered the Admiral.
“What the hell was that?” half screamed the SPECTRE.  Vir turned and pointed to a watchtower on the town walls.
“We have a sniper up there, getting rid of any stragglers like that one,” he gestured at the unpleasant stain on the wall.  “He’s armed with some fancy new weapon supplied by my colleagues.”  The SPECTRE shook his head, sighed, and decided it was best not to overthink things.
They trotted through the destruction of the town until they reached a centrally located building, still standing, that looked much more sturdy than anything they had passed at this point.  As they stepped inside, raised voices could be heard.
“I will not allow you to take down the gate of the fortress!  You’ve already destroyed the town.  You don’t need to destroy anything else!”  This was shouted by a short, balding, rather pudgy looking man in civilian clothes.
“Listen buddy.  The only reason I haven’t leveled this entire town and be done with it is because some of my more humanitarian friends here don’t like that idea.  Now, leave this to the professionals or I will shoot you in the head and order an orbital bombardment.  Understand?” replied a human man wearing midnight black armor.  The civilian paled and ran from the room.  The black armored man turned back to his colleagues, a most odd and diverse group.  An incredibly, unbelievably tall green armored man, a man and woman, faces unnaturally pale, wearing the grey-blue coats emblazoned with golden eagles, and...SPECTRE Shepard.  The Turian SPECTRE frowned.  Well, he was warned Shepard was alive and was with this group.  Oh, well.
A set of holographic projections were set up on the other side of the room, revealing another man in what looked to be a yellow and black jumpsuit, a relatively normal looking man, and a series of boxes, with with rising and falling lines inside; apparently the members who could not show their faces for whatever reason.  The black armored man turned towards Vir and the SPECTRE.
“Who is this?” he asked curtly.  Surprisingly enough, it was Shepard who spoke next.
“SPECTRE Irraldis,” he nodded.  “I know of your work.”
“Great.  A SPECTRE.  Why are you here?”
“I’m bearing a message to the different governments you serve from the Citadel Council.  I have them in my ship, if you’d like to come over.”
“Love to.  Rather busy at the moment though-”  One of the holographic voice boxes crackled to life.
“Central command, this is Star-lord.  The bombs are planted.  Over.”  The man in black, who had yet to be introduced to the Irraldis, ran over to the consul and pressed a button.
“Copy that, Star-lord.”  His fingers danced across a keyboard, and spoke to another box.
“Ordelphine?  Bombs planted.  Move out.”
“Copy that, Captain,” replied the voice of a human female.  The black armored man pointed to Irraldis.
“You’re a SPECTRE, right?  Care to join the assault?”
“Uh...yeah, sure.  Why not.”
“Excellent!  Oh, yes, by the way, introductions.  I’m Thomas Drake.  Over there,” he indicated the two soldiers in grey-blue, “are Colonel Kasteen and Major Brocklaw of the Imperial Guard.  That,” he pointed to the tall green armored soldier, who had still yet to speak, “is Master Chief.  And you already know Shepard and Vir.”  Drake fitted a black armored, blue lensed helmet on his head, then gestured to the door.  “Well, now everyone knows each other.  Wonderful!  Let’s go blow stuff up.”  The entire team, minus Kasteen and Brocklaw, who, with a team of grey-blue soldiers, seemed to be keeping tabs on the central communications area, followed Drake as he jogged through the shattered streets.  They reached the outskirts of the fortress, connected to the town by a massive, solid metal gate.  Nearby was a group of humans, clad in dark green, led by a tall man, wearing a sword of all things, dressed in a black and red greatcoat, emblazoned with the golden eagle.  He nodded at the newcomers and shot an inquiring look at Irraldis.
“This is a Citadel SPECTRE who has a message for us,” replied Drake to the look.  The tall man seemed satisfied at this, then went back to checking his weapons.  Drake keyed his comms.
“Ordelphine, begin your run.”
“Understood, Captain.”  Drake pressed a button on his wrist, then spoke again.
“Star-lord, this is Drake.  Detonate.”  In lieu of a response, the heavy gate blew upart with a fiery explosion, and came to rest at least ten meters away.  Red flames shot high into the night, illuminating the attackers, yet no one moved, and no one fired.  They seemed to be waiting for something.
A low thrum sounded through the night, and high above, a large shape blocked out the moon, casting weird shadows on the ground below.  Ordelphine’s voice sounded through the comms system.
“Approaching target.  Stand by.  Ready in three...two...one...go!”  Another voice, this one unfamiliar, spoke.
“Copy that.  Stand by for Titanfall!”  The night was broken by a crackling noise, and Irraldis would see a dark shape falling from the sky.  It landed with a massive crash on the road to the gate.  Irraldis could see it was some utterly massive bipedal war machine.  A monster of metal, it stood at least six meters tall, wielding a gun as large as two humans were tall.  Rocket pods were mounted above its shoulders, and these fired, destroying a portion of the upper walls that concealed the enemy.  It ran forward, the various ground soldiers of the Scoundrels following.  A Batarian within the fortress, dazed from the explosive force of the rockets, tried to bring its gun up, but was instantly cut down by at least three different people.  The fortress’s courtyard turned into a bloodbath, the massive war machine destroying anything that posed a major threat, and the ground soldiers mopping up anything that survived.  Irraldis now saw the weapons of the Scoundrels at work.  The blocky rifles of the grey-blue soldier spat crimson death at the Batarians, cutting straight through kinetic barriers designed to stop projectiles, not lasers.  Drake himself flourished a triple barreled gun that fired electric blue and magenta balls of plasma with sufficient force to literally melt straight through armor and flesh.  The other Scoundrels held more conventional weapons, but they were no less deadly.  In less than a minute, all the Batarians in the courtyard were dead.   Satisfied with this, Drake seemed to be about to order the storming of the fortress proper, when a voice from the fortress itself spoke.
“We surrender!  We surrender!”  A group of Batarians, their hands held high, exited the fortress.  Drake nodded approvingly.
“Well that saves us time.  Disarm them,” he told a group of the dark armored, flame-decaled soldiers who followed him.  They proceeded to do so.  “Now kneel,” he told the Batarians.  They looked at him with bewilderment.
“What?”
“I.  Said.  Kneel!”  They did so, hesitantly, reluctantly.  Shepard and Vir seemed to guess his intent.
“Wait, no.  You can’t do that, Drake!” said Shepard.  Vir nodded in agreement.  Drake turned his head towards them and drew his pistol.
“And why not?  They’re slavers.  Murderers.  They deserve to die.”  At the mention of death, the Baratians flinched, but said nothing.
“You can’t just kill them out of hand!  It isn’t legal!  They need a trial!”
“Ah.  So it’s legality you’re worried about.”  Drake holstered his pistol.  “Cain.”  He pointed to the tall man in the greatcoat.  Cain nodded and stepped forward.
“In the name of the God-Emperor of Mankind, by the authority invested in me, I find you guilty of the murder and enslavement of humans, and thus guilty of crimes against the Imperium and Emperor.  Your sentence is death.”  He stepped up to the first kneeling Batarian and shot it through the head.
“I am a SPECTRE, and this is my galaxy.  I won’t allow you to kill them.  I’ll hand them over to the proper authorities,” said Shepard.  Cain looked at Drake, who rolled his eyes.
“Fine.  Then they’re your problem.”  He turned to Irraldis.  “Now then.  With that cleared up, I believe you have some messages for us?”
Wow.  That took a bit of a dark turn.  The messages will be here sooner rather than later, and then we get the full effect of the galaxies meeting.  If you like a particular time of story (i.e. battles, Scoundrels interacting, governments interacting), then feel free to tell me.  Also, if you have any comments, criticisms, ideas, thoughts, requests, concerns, or anything else, feel free to ask.

A Grave Mistake 2/?
Part 2 to the Goore series. Thank you Raine and Birdy for Beta reading this chapter!
When you woke up the next morning, you thought the whole cemetery fiasco was a nightmare. Just a silly dream that your brain created to show your anxiety for the recent job. Your eyes scanned to the electric alarm clock on your nightstand: 8:45 AM. First, you need to get a cup of coffee in your system. Second of all, you need to get your reading assignment done today. With a stretch across the bed, you stand up to start your day.  As you stride across the hall, your eyes land on something crumpled in a dirty heap by the entrance of the apartment.
The conquest for coffee was pushed aside as you approached the foreign object. You crouched down and picked up what looked to be a ratty old coat with faded lettering on the back. The remnant of letters read, ‘Woodland Cemetery’. The cemetery. Last night wasn’t a dream. You ran before you finished your first shift.
The thought of the consequences for doing so sent a shiver down your back. In the midst of the chase, the security office never crossed your mind as an option for a sanctuary. Jacket in hand, you scramble through the flat to find your phone. You had two notifications: one missed call and one voicemail, both from your boss. Knowing that you can’t hide from your mistake forever, you have to do the right thing. Gritting your teeth, you unlock the screen to listen to the voicemail.
The old man’s voice crackled on the speaker, “Hey kid, we need to talk. Call me when you’re available”.
You bopped your phone against your forehead and whined in dismay. “I fucked up. I fucked up, and he’s going to say I’m fired.”
Taking a couple of concentrated breaths, you press ‘call back’, and place the phone against your ear. You hoped the old man would be asleep or busy doing whatever he does in his free time. Your silent prayers were ignored as you heard the familiar blip of the phone being answered. “Hello? Who is this?” your boss’s garbled voice came through.
“Hi boss. I’m so sorry about last night’s shift. I can explain!” Feeling your throat tighten from nervousness, you take a deep breath. When you were ready to explain the corpse man, you stopped. You can’t say that, you’d sound like a lunatic. ‘I ran into this bloody man and he chased me during my shift’ would sound like a sorry excuse that a teenager would use to explain why their homework is missing. “A racoon frightened me and the office didn’t cross my mind when I was running. I’m so sorry.”
The line was silent for a second before a sigh broke the silence. “I saw you running in the camera feed. Look, don’t run off during your shift again. Do you plan on going tonight?”
The question left you stunned. Do you want to come back to the cemetery? He’s not going to fire you for running off. Before you can think, you answered, “Yes, I’ll come to tonight’s shift. Do I come at the same time as yesterday?”
“Yes, same time, same place. See you then. Get some sleep kid. Bye.”
The line dies as your boss hangs up. Your shoulders drop, the death grip on the jacket in your hand loosens. You still have a job. Great. You might run into a corpse man again. Not so great. You walk over to the kitchen, take a seat, and slouch over the table. You’re going to need more than a pot of coffee today.
------------------------------
When your shift rolled around, you walked back to the small trailer in the far right of the field. You pressed the doorbell to alert your boss of your arrival. With a buzz, the door unlocked to let you in. You step into the office and close the door quietly behind you.
“Hi boss”, you greeted the old man. This time the cue-ball had an aged ball cap on his head. He was also wearing a similar jacket to your own. The rolling chair squeaked as your boss scooted from his desk and stood up. He gave you an indifferent look before he adjusted the cap. “We have a camera knocked on the far back of the place. Some kids knocked them off this morning. Your coworker was able to fix most of the cameras, but we got two more to replace.”
You watched your boss pick up two walkie talkies from the left of the computer monitor. As he shuffled across the room, he stuffed one into his pocket and handed you the spare. "Thanks," you muttered out of politeness before you took the device and stuffed it into your empty pocket. He then walked over to the table next to the door to grab the boxes piled on top. He reached in and grabbed two orange-colored boxes, handing you one of them. Examining the box, you noticed a logo with the word ‘security camera’ printed on the side.
“We’re going to need a couple items from the storage shed. We’ll need a ladder, screwdriver, and… you still have the flashlight, right?”
You fished around in your pockets before you found it, pulling the item out to show him. He nods in approval. Grabbing the massive piles of keys from the lockbox, both of you tread through the grass to the shed. Breaking the silence, you addressed the elephant in the room.
“Thank you for giving me another chance, boss.”
Both of you stopped in front of the wooden building with a pad lock blocking the latch. As your boss searched for the right key, he addressed your statement.
“It’s fine, kid,” he sighed. “People usually have a fight-or-flight response and you did what you had to do to stay safe. We commonly associate cemeteries with awful stuff, so I’m not mad at you for running away.”
He unlocked and opened the door to the shed. Without looking back, he clicked the light switch to illuminate the interior. Stuffing his keys in his pocket, he strutted into the building and plucked the materials for the job.
“From your background check, you seem like the type to work hard. You’re not the type to run off and party like some college kids. You have a goal in mind and you’re using whatever is in your arson and you are doing the best you can. It’s hard to find good youngsters like you.”
This left you at a loss for words. Your impression of your boss differed from your first meeting. The bitter old man, who was courteous enough to leave trash bags in your pocket to make your job easier, now complemented you verbally. A complement you shouldn’t be receiving after last night’s stunt.
After he had gathered everything he needed, your boss stepped out of the shed and locked it behind him. “Take a tool box and ladder for yourself, kid. If anything goes wrong or a vermin chases you off again, you can call me.”
You nodded in agreement, “Yes boss”.
Tucking the security camera under your arm, you picked up the small ladder and tool box. After confirming where you needed to go, both of you went on your separate ways to fix the damaged property. Lugging the items to the location was one thing, the remains of the previous camera was a bigger problem. Whoever the kids were, they did a magnificent job at smashing the camera from this angle. They knocked it off from the adjustable base that connected to the wall of the building. The smashed camera barely hung from the cable that was tacked to the roof. With a sigh, you put the items down on the ground, picking up the ladder and setting it in place. You reached into your pocket and put the flashlight in place. Turning it on, you rummaged into the toolbox to find a screwdriver. Once successful, you opened up the box to unravel the packaging from the new camera.
Cradling the new camera in the crook of your arm, you climb up the ladder and get to work. Taking the old camera down from the cable wasn’t that bad. Unscrewing the base proved to be a slight problem as one hole was bent from whatever impact it received. An hour later, the new camera was in place and the smashed pieces were sprawled across the grass.
Once you got down from the ladder you rolled your shoulders to release the tension on your neck. At least that was a pleasant change from being nose deep into your books this morning. Reaching into your pocket, you produced your walkie talkie. Pressing the button on the side, you asked, “Boss ya there?” You waited two seconds before the block crackled back.
“Yea? You done there?” your boss’s garbled voice reverberated back.
“Yes, I’m done setting up the new camera. I’m going to take a ten here before heading back to the supply shed.”
“I’m in the office. No vermin?”
You briefly paused. Was this a small joke or a genuine concern? “No boss, not a single vermin in sight so far.”
“10-4” he mumbled before the line went silent again.
Speaking of vermin, you haven’t seen that guy again. A shiver ran down your back at the memory of the zombie. You don’t want to see him again. Not on this shift, not in the future either.
Stuffing the black brick into your pocket, you took a minor break before you headed back to the shed. Sitting down on the second step of the ladder, you let out a sigh of relief. You tilted your head, rolling your muscles and looking up at the night sky.
The clouds covered the sky, not a single star appeared amongst the sea of gray fluff. Deep down you wished you could see a sliver of the moon or stars. You felt tranquil when you could see them in the night sky. No matter which town you were in, someone from across the country would see the same orb burning in the dark. It was nice to know you weren’t the only one looking up at the same atmosphere. It made you feel less lonely in a time like this.
A crunch pulls you out of your thoughts. You looked behind to see the last person you wanted to see tonight: The goddamn corpse boy. He had his back towards you, and you immediately went into flight mode, your body flinging itself from your resting spot. The quick movement caused the ladder to topple over and crash into the soft ground.
The man stopped to turn his attention to you. From his hunched position, your flashlight illuminated his face. Fresh blood smeared down from his forehead. Gray paint contoured his cheek and eyes in an unflattering manner. Instead of accentuating his features, it made him look more gaunt. From afar his eyes looked dark and lifeless, devoid of any color. From this distance you couldn’t tell if it was drool coming down his chin, but something other than blood was running down his face.
The man straightened, wiping the spit-like substance off his chin with the back of his hand. You barely noticed his change in stance because all of your attention was focused on the pocket knife held in his bloody hand. With no time to lose, you made a mad dash towards the office.
“NO NO NO NO NO”, you shouted in your desperation to get to the sanctuary. The night was going so peacefully. Why did he have to ruin it? How the hell did he even get a knife? Was he buried with it? Whatever the answer was, you weren't sticking around to find out.
To not bash yourself into the office door, you use your hands to reduce the impact against your body. You banged on the door, “Boss, let me in! Hurry!” You kept frantically twisting the doorknob, wanting to get in the second it unlocked.
Once the door opened, you quickly slid inside and shut the door. Chest heaving from the activity, you pressed yourself against the only entrance to the trailer office. Your boss gave you a look of concern as he slightly rolled to the side in his chair.
“Vermin?” he asked questionably.
“No, there’s a man covered in blood in the cemetery. He has a knife with him so I came running down here” you huffed.
Your boss cocked his brow, but you could tell from the look in his eye, he didn’t doubt you. He turned back to the monitor and checked the surveillance screen for the guy you described. “The camera you set up is live.. I don’t see anyone there..” he muttered into the hand that propped his chin. You strode over to the side of your boss to examine the screen. Just like he said, the zombie man was nowhere to be found. Deep down, you felt your frustration rise from within you.
“I’m going to lose my shit because of this zombie fucker,” you groaned under your breath.
Extra
Mary stood there as he watched the grave worker from the night before scream and run away. His face scrunched in disgust at their rude reaction. “I guess they don’t want a slice,” he shrugged. Knife in hand, he carved another slice of apple and brought the piece to his mouth. Savoring the flavor, he stopped to see the crimson liquid staining the hand holding the knife in red. That’s when he realized, “Ah fuck, I guess that’s why they ran...I guess I should find them and talk with them like an adult.” He paused for a minute before he cackled. “Yeah, as if I can even hold a civil conversation with someone who runs as soon as they see me,” he groaned. With a roll of his eyes, he walked deeper into the cemetery. When he spotted the human-sized dent in the iron fence, he stuffed the remains of the fruit in his mouth and crawled through, exiting the area designated for the dead.

RocketBook Flip - a rare review and it’s not a game!
Before I go any further, I feel I must point out that I don’t have any financial connection to RocketBook whatsoever – this isn’t a piece that was requested or courted by RocketBook or affiliates and I’m not receiving any reward or sponsorship either in product or direct payment for this article. I just like the damn thing and love it when an innovative piece of tech (in this case quite low key) just works. Hi I’m Paul, and I have a bit of a problem with notebooks – A4 lined, sketch, reporters, Black & Reds (ohhhh the sheer number of B&Rs), goofy ones, serious work ones, battered ones, pristine ‘for best only’ ones – and they all fill at an alarming rate. I make notes on everything. Working as a sound engineer and designer, there’s always mix notes, soundscape plots, ideas, VO notes and scripts, SFX ideas etc etc. At home it’s a very different story – it’s much worse. Game notes; blog notes; hurriedly scribbled quiz questions spurred by watching another episode of Mental Floss’ 500 facts about cheese; RPG notes and story ideas; my own script writing; world building; sketches; other creative ideas; song/music notes and ideas; and that’s before we get to to-do lists; and the dreaded ‘things I must remember’. So my journal life is many, varied and plenty. The usual issue is… ‘what frakking journal did I put that amazing idea in????’, and that’s way before we get to the utter horror that is possibly losing a whole journal or forgetting to bring one home from work. I’m 53, I forget more than I recall, and journals help bring some semblance of order to a massively chaotic and fertile brain. What I’ve needed for a long time is some way of organising all this info or centralising it in some way. Sure I’ve looked at apps – I used Things, Evernote, Notes, and One Note for years, and they are really, really good, but they relied on either having a charged device exactly when I need it (yeah – me too) or net access, which for a new-ish theatre, is surprisingly a bit of an issue at work. And the most important part – I actually enjoy the physical act of handwriting long-hand. I still write actual physical letters to people, it’s adorable and a bit creepy in this age, but I call it charming and leave it at that. Handwriting, for me, allows me time to think and process in a way that typing just doesn’t. Handwriting is slower, I rarely cross anything out, and so I always have the whole of the thought. So what I’ve ideally wanted for years, was a reliable way of organising all my notes and storing them electronically so I have access even without the actual journal, with OCR so they’re editable, and still being a tactile handwritten experience. I’m naturally a sceptic (I actually subscribe to Fortean Times – yeah – I card carry!) and so online ads and particularly FaceAche ads are a field day for critical thinking triggers. I don’t think I’ve ever received from Wish, exactly what I ordered from Wish. And so when an ad from RocketBook constantly kept popping up on my timeline a few weeks ago, I was naturally “it’ll never work” But their website looked legit enough – they had a dedicated UK shop, it was relatively steep to buy in but not so wild that if it didn’t work I wouldn’t be crying too much about the money wasted, and at the end of the day it was a 10th the price of a ReMarkable 2 which is actually what I thought would solve my problem. I’m furloughed at the mo and though I could argue the case for £300+ notebook (test me, I could), I just couldn’t justify it now. And RocketBook had a good summer intro offer. I ordered on the Wednesday, and the impressively glitzy and graphic-design-playbook poly package was dropped on my doorstep just 2 days later by my cheery postie who yelled up the drive “Package for ya, looks very exciting!!!!” I like that our postal service is still invested in the hopes and dreams of their customers. It was exciting. All the instructions for getting started with my new Teal RocketBook A4 Flip were right there before you even open it. The main body houses the pad and a cleaning cloth, and a clever little side pocket houses the supplied Pilot Frixion pen.
Tumblr media
RocketBooks come in several models, all configured slightly differently. I have the Flip which is a top spiral-bound softback pad with 21 double sided ‘pages’ giving 42 pages in total. The Flip has lined paper one side, and dot paper on the reverse (great for D&D maps, impromptu tables, mixer channel plots etc)
Tumblr media
DELIVERY & FIRST IMPRESSIONS The pads are nicely made, with sturdy covers (available in some really nice colours too) and a solid, thick plastic ring binding. Initially, The RocketBook does feel a bit odd. Its ‘pages’ are actually a synthetic polyester blend and feel quite shiny to the touch. The sort of surface you just instantly feel is not going to be great for ink! Each page is edge-to-edge lined or dotted with a heavy black border. At the bottom is a prominent QR code used for scanning and some very feint icons. These 7 icons are the key to the ease of use of the RocketBook series. But more later.
THE APP
The pads work with a companion app, that is absolutely free and available for Apple & Android. In fact, RB even do downloadable printable pages so you can try the whole system absolutely free before you buy – I didn’t, I just bought one, y’know. The app allows you to set up your destination locations, your preferences and does the actual scanning. Just one quick note, I have the app on both my phone and iPad and had to set-up the app the same for both, there appears to be no way of swapping preference settings between devices, though I can see why this may be intentional.
Currently, the RocketBook allows you to choose from the following locations to send files to: GoogleDrive, box, EverNote, DropBox, slack, OneNote, iCloud, OneDrive as well as simply to an email (or multiple) addresses and iMessage. Impressively, these are not fixed either, so you could choose your 7 destinations to be 7 email addresses of team members. These 7 locations are the icons at the bottom of each page. To select a destination for your file, you just make a mark in that icon box (tick, circle, something unsavoury) and that page will be sent to whichever you select. This makes the system very flexible indeed as not every page is necessarily sent to every destination. You always decide every time you fill a page. Change your mind on a second revision? No problem, add or change icons at any time and re-upload.
There’s a really handy table on the inside front cover for you to note what icon sends what where. This is also wipeable, so can be changed anytime.
I have mine set by default to:
Rocket > main email address (either as PDF, JPG, OCR embedded or as separate txt file)
Diamond > GoogleDrive (you can specify exactly what folder too)
Apple > iMessage
Bell > OneNote
That actually still leaves me 3 spare: shamrock; star; and horseshoe.
The app took me maybe 20mins to set-up, that included decision time for destinations and setting up a few target folders. It also included a few ‘test firings’. I didn’t get everything right first time and a few things didn’t send, but crucially, a tiny bit of digging revealed very simple troubleshooting (including the aforementioned issue with no sync’ing of phone and iPad), and all in I was finding the files in all the right destinations within about 30 mins. The website, FAQs and community are immensely helpful with any other issues as well. I had a tiny issue with OneNote seeming to take ages to sync, but I think that’s an issue with my OneNote settings, everything else was almost instantaneous. You can also handily set the app to auto-send as soon as it scans, or allow for manual review.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
CLEAN UP ON AISLE ROCKETPAD The main reason I wanted to look at the RocketBook was the issue of reusability. My journal shenanigans are by no means the biggest ecological disaster on the planet, but if we are to believe Tesco (who probably issue as many receipts at our local Tesco Express in a day as journals I’ve ever used), every little helps. If I could find an ecologically better solution, I should at least take a look. The RocketPads work by partnering with Pilot pens called Frixion. The really clever bit is RB’s paper technology and how it works with the Frixion ink. At present, the pads only work with the Frixion pens – except the RB Colour which works with Crayola’s dry-erase crayons. When you write on the ‘paper’ with a Frixion pen, it remains wet for a few seconds and then dries pretty quickly. There’s no smudging whatsoever in transit, which is pretty cool. From then on, it may as well be permanent, until you have transmitted your page and decide you don’t want the text anymore.  To wipe the page clean, you can dampen the supplied cloth and just wipe the surface clean, it’s weird but it works! But then damp cloth in your bag? So I use kitchen roll to dampen, then wipe dry with theirs. Others even have an adorably kitsch spray bottle in their kit. RB reckon if you are not going to use the pad for a few months, to clean the pages as the ink can get trickier to shift after a long time, but for day-to-day use, I’ve tried writing and wiping well over 20x and the page hasn’t become discoloured or tarnished at all. The only pad different in the range is the Wave which cleans by microwaving! Do NOT do this with any of the others, bad things will happen. The ink doesn’t take scrubbing or any time to come up, I clean my pages in about 10-15s. The page can feel a little tacky when it’s damp, but leave a minute or so and the page will be back to normal. RB do say that odd things can happen if the book is left near a heatsource or in a hot car, vis-à-vis, the ink can completely disappear horrifyingly enough. They say that putting the pen or the pad in the freezer for a little while will actually restore the ink, but I’ve not tried it yet so can’t confirm or deny how that goes. Handy for spies in hot countries though, so there’s another target market. If you are always going to send your pages to the same places, then don’t erase the marked icons, and the page is ready for new notes straight away, otherwise, scrub them too.
Tumblr media
I CAN’T READ YOUR WRITING – ARE YOU A DOCTOR? Initially, the RB pads send their files as scans of the pages in high contrast monochrome (colour is available) when you snap the page in the app (which auto-frames for you and takes maybe 10s to capture). The formats are either as images or PDF. If that had been it, I would have been quite happy, but the RB pads have another trick up their sleeve. Firstly, they have a function called ‘Smart Titles’ which allows you to name your files directly from the page by writing a filename between double hashtags ie ## this is my scrawl 24/8/20 ## and the file will pop up in your destinations with the filename “this is my scrawl 24/08/20” – this is insanely handy – there’s no protocol except your own and the hashtags, and it makes your files super easy to search. You can even send groups of pages as a single PDF. But the notebooks go even further. They actually offer full searchable OCR which the app can be set to send embedded in the PDF or image, or more usefully, as a companion separate .txt file. Now, my handwriting isn’t the neatest, but it’s not bad so I was prepared for some editing to be necessary, but impressively again, the OCR was about 90-95% accurate. In a page of text it missed maybe 3 or 4 words and even those not badly. This is all considering their full OCR is still only in beta! It gets confused with diagrams on the page, but that’s to be expected.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Text Generated by OCR: ## Blog post och test Aug 2020 ## This is a little demonstration of the OCR capabilities of the Rocket Book pads and app. I've told the lovely people that the hit rate is about 90-95% so please dant let me down here flip pad. Hopefully the file name will also prove another point further up in the section and not make me look like some charlatan or snake-oil salesman.Hope you enjoyed this demonstrahen, now go away and leave me to write the next great novella.Bye!
HOW MUCH? On average, I pay anywhere from £4-8 for a decent A4 notebook/journal, so at £30-37 (dependent on model), the RocketBook pads are not a whim purchase. That said, I get through a lot of journals in a year, and given that I would expect to easily get 2-3 years out of a RocketBook pad, then I’ve saved money. Will it replace all my notebooks? No. You need to be thinking of carrying this round as a kit: pad, Frixion pen (at least 2), and cloth.  RB do a series of portfolio sleeves for the pads but it does push the price up a bit still, but for a rep, engineer or salesperson, this still makes sense. They’re less bulky than a normal A4 pad too. What I would say is Tesco and Sainsbury’s currently stock Frixion pens and at much better prices than buying them from RB directly, I just paid £3 for 3 pens on offer at Tesco compared to £10 from RB. You get one pen with the pad, but you’re going to want more soon, so stock up next time you’re shopping for truffle oil crisps. If you use whiteboards a lot, RB also have you covered. Instead of the pad, £16 will get you a 4 pack of ‘beacons’ – little self-adhesive triangles that effectively do the same thing as the QR code in the pad. You don’t have the icon options obviously, but if you’re looking to distribute quick meeting or group notes, this would be a boon. CONCLUSION Considering this was a fairly speculative purchase on my part, my early experiences with the RocketBook Flip have been really impressive. The flexibility, the ability to store every page in a different location if you really wanted to make it fantastic for organising my notes, which can save me hours of finding the right ^^$&^$&$ notebook in the first place, then scouring that for the one paragraph I was looking for etc etc. The searchable text facility, in-app history for re-sending etc and last but no way least, functional handwriting OCR, makes the RocketBook not only novel, but actually useable! Would I buy another? As a second notebook – yes. I look forward to seeing what the actual longevity of the product is once I come off furlough and start cramming my day bag with all my junk and a notepad again, but yes, I’d probably just have one at home, and one for work, but make the last 5 mins of each day, scanning and sending work notes so I have them with me wherever. Impressively, the RocketBook Flip just works and it works well. ‘Er Across The Table has already sold several folk at her work on the idea and she doesn’t even have one herself yet! I love it. It’s taking a little adjusting to, but it’s all good. The most important thing though is the writing experience, and I have to say, the combination of the Frixion pen/ink and the polymer technology of the Flip, again, just works. It’s smooth, doesn’t skip or smudge for me (I know some right to left users and left handers have reported some issues) and feels great to write on. If anything I have to slow down a bit as the contact is so smooth that your writing can get a bit ahead of you! RocketBook have produced a cracker of a product. It might not seem like much, but if practical working journals are your thing (ie not create and keep things) then I can highly recommend the RocketBook series.
