Washington Will Grow Increasingly Agitated As Its ‘Whack-A-Mole’ Containment Policy Exhausts
— Ding Gang | August 02 2023
Illustration: Chen Xia/Global Times
Many people enjoy playing the arcade game Whack-A-Mole. This game is characterized by the fact that, although you will get a high score in the allotted time, there will never be a complete victory, and the game seems to come to its end once the player is exhausted.
Washington's "Whack-A-Mole" containment policy is similar to a race against time, but time is clearly not on its side. The US is increasingly agitated by the exhaustion of such a policy.
China's manufacturing breakthroughs in various aspects are snowballing. The US is now facing not just one or a few major competitors, but rather a multitude of middleweight players that have quickly upgraded to heavyweight status.
Breakthroughs have occurred, from low-end toys and small electric appliances to high-end medical and mechanical equipment. Some of these breakthroughs are chip-related, but many more are chip-unrelated or use chips that China can manufacture independently.
I doubt whether the US has the "stamina" to continue to deal with the new battlefields popping up in all directions and engage in the no-end "war of science and technology."
According to the Biden administration's containment policy, there should be three phases: Firstly, deal a heavy blow to China's chip manufacturing, then restrain China's high-tech breakthroughs and development for a considerable period; and finally, enable the US to buy enough time to consolidate its global high-tech dominance and dominate the global market.
But time was not under Washington's control, and this containment policy has soon become exhausting.
Let's look at these new Chinese manufacturers that have emerged.
Firstly, China's production of new energy vehicles has had a significant impact on the global market. Some individuals in the US have expressed concerns that if not regulated, Chinese-made cars will dominate the streets of America. This is due to China's superior technology, such as advanced batteries, and their competitive pricing, which makes it challenging for the US to keep up.
Another area where China has shown technological superiority is the Chinese-made BeiDou system. The US National Space-based Positioning, Navigation, and Timing Advisory Board has warned that "GPS's capabilities are now substantially inferior to those of China's BeiDou."
Chips are what the US has stuck with and what it has a lot of. Still, Americans now fear China's massive investment in low- and mid-range chip manufacturing will eventually monopolize the entire market.
They believe that China would eventually isolate the high-end and make a breakthrough by encircling the low and mid-range. China is expected to soon be able to mass-produce 28nm chips, one of the most widely used worldwide and the most needed by the global manufacturing industry, including the US.
Of course, the US' biggest worry is whether China can independently develop and produce 5G chips. Will Huawei's upcoming phones be loaded with 5G chips? It's not confirmed yet, but speculation is already flying around, making Washington anxious. Some in the US Congress have chanted for stepping up comprehensive sanctions against Huawei.
More anxiety ensues.
China's breakthroughs in aircraft manufacturing, shipbuilding, high-speed rail, robotics, electronics, medical device manufacturing, agricultural technology, and many others will continue to grow, and the supply chains will expand in the coming years.
China's manufacturing breakthroughs to the high-end are inevitable at this stage. The US' containment has stimulated China to focus more on the high-end of the market and pay more attention to the low-end, mid-range innovation path.
The US has already experienced a period of explosive development, similar to what China is currently going through. Thanks to the information technology revolution, Washington has taken the lead in chip technology, computer usage, search engines, social media, big data and cloud computing. This wave of innovation has now reached China.
If the US attempts to hinder every innovation in Chinese manufacturing or any product that creates a dominant impact in the market and restricts those supply channels, Washington would need to excel in all manufacturing sectors.
However, achieving this objective is impractical. The politicians in Washington are relentlessly pursuing this unreachable aim. Let's see how things will develop.

Dominant Trends in Vehicle Tracking Technology
about fleet managementWhen you analyse carefully, you will understand that the growth of vehicle tracking system business is quite inspiring and obvious all over the world. It’s all thanks to advent in the vehicle tracking technology.
Most vehicles in North America and Europe have started using the system and furthermore you can witness a remarkable growth in Asian markets as well.
According to a recent market study, it was found that there is an estimated growth of $30.45 billion by 2018, at a Compound Annual Growth Rate of 22.8%.
Key driving forces for adopting vehicle tracking technology to the business –
1. Apparent downsizing of tracking units and antenna enabling clandestine mounting and installation in smaller regions
2. Enhanced security due to the theft detection facility and real-time tracking of shipping goods
3. Reduce logistics costs by improved routing, optimized stock utilization and advanced monitoring of business operations
4. Support insurance claims for accident reconstruction using direction, docked position, speed, and acceleration data
5. Provide superior and instant service based on the reports from previous location
6. Facilitate quick recovery of goods, vehicle, or asset
7. Restraint fuel theft
8. Government approval for installing tracking devices in brand new vehicles
9. Subsiding cost and size, and boost the performance of satellite positioning receivers and cellular modems
10. Efficient driver management by careful monitoring of driving behavior (idling times, speeding, etc.)
11. Extended battery life and operation of solar powered devices, exclusively for vehicle tracking devices that do not require any connection to the vehicle power supply.
There are certain hardware issues that should be considered while addressing the above scenarios, and overcoming these issues will be the prime goal in the future:
Agreeability with Multiple Global Navigation Satellite Systems
The time has flown away, where GPS is not the only satellite system available today.
Moreover, there is the Russian GLONASS that is in a fully operating stage, the Chinese BeiDou Navigation Satellite System and Japanese Quasi-Zenith Satellite System is partially operational, and Galileo (European Union’s Global Navigation System) will be available by the year 2019.
And the compatibility of these systems, however, compliance differs from an individual system to multiple system. One of the key issues is the location where the tracking application is used and when it is operating in the weak signal area, there will be an interruption in parallel GNSS operation.
Another consideration is the Government authorization, for example, in Russia, the ERA-GLONASS vehicle emergency call system needs GLONASS compatibility and hence, it should be scrutinized as well.
Management of Poor Satellite Reception
It is possible for GPS/GNSS satellites to transfer a power of about 30 watts from an extension of 20 thousand kilometers and it will be locked onto 4 satellites.
Hence, it will be difficult to trace achievement and certainty in urban canyons, especially, when it is in indoors or the receiver is within the metal containers.
These issues can be resolved using the following techniques:
1. Unified Dead Estimating
GNSS receivers can be improved with sensor data, which helps to report distance and heading changes using the last known position.
This kind of receivers when installed in automotive navigation systems will facilitate smooth navigation within tunnels. In addition to this, accelerometer readings can also be augmented by careful consideration of vertical displacement.
2. Compound Positioning Procedure
In this procedure, you can add a parallel system that speculate based on Wi-Fi cells or visible mobile cells whenever the visibility of GNSS satellite is blocked.
Therefore, you will be able to obtain information about a few kilometers distance and it is better than obtaining no positional information at all, especially, in the case of useful shipments and vehicles.
Agreeability with Multiple Cellular Standards
GSM/GPRS is unsuccessful to the next generation 3G standards such as HSPA, CDMA2000, and LTE. Also, there are alternatives of 3G and 4G standards that function over different frequency bands.
Here, arises the need for cellular modems, that conform to different standards while maintaining footprint compatibility on the same PCB layout.
This lowers the hardware costs as the tracking system is designed with regional variants or upgraded with the next generation tracking technology.
Automotive Grade Components
There is a need for automotive grade components for all vehicle tracking applications. Automotive grade components bear extreme temperature ranges, voltage modulations, inappropriate safety designs, etc.
These components with “automotive grade” should be qualified according to AEC-Q100, fabricated in ISO/TS 16949 certified sites, and undergoes full system testing at the factory.
Meanwhile, all qualification tests should be performed under ISO16750 standard. Vehicle tracking system is a fundamental requirement of every business, that is, dependent on vehicles.

The Russians are hacking the world-wide navigation satellite procedure (GNSS) on a mass scale in get to confuse hundreds of ships and airplanes about where by they are, according to a research by Centre for Superior Defense (C4Advertisement).
Regulation enforcement, shipping, airways, electric power stations, your mobile phone, and anything else dependent on GPS time and spot synchronization, are susceptible to GNSS hacking.
All of Britain’s essential infrastructure is dependent on GNSS and GPS, in accordance to a report commissioned by the British isles Room Agency.
Russian president Putin’s summer season dacha is guarded by a GNSS spoofing array that will help make a no-fly zone in excess of his wide Italian-design and style mansion.
GNSS jamming gear expenditures $300.
On Could 15, 2018, under a sunny sky, Russian President Vladimir Putin drove a bright orange truck in a convoy of construction motor vehicles for the opening of the Kerch Bridge from Russia to Crimea. At 11 miles very long, it is now the longest bridge in either Europe or Russia.
As Putin drove throughout the bridge, one thing strange happened. The satellite navigation units in the management rooms of a lot more than 24 ships anchored close by abruptly commenced displaying wrong info about their spot. Their GPS methods explained to their captains they had been anchored additional than 65 kilometres absent – on land, at the Anapa Airport.
This was not a random glitch, in accordance to the Centre for Advanced Defense, a stability feel tank. It was a deliberate plan to make it complicated for any one close by to track or navigate all around the existence of Putin, C4Advert states.

“All important countrywide infrastructures depend on GNSS to some extent” – and the Russians have began hacking it
The Russians have began hacking into the international navigation satellite procedure (GNSS) on a mass scale in purchase to confuse 1000’s of ships and airplanes about in which they are, in accordance to a study of false GNSS alerts by C4Ad.
GNSS includes the constellation of global satellites that orbit the earth. The US’s Global Positioning Technique (GPS), China’s Beidou, Russia’s GLONASS, and Europe’s Galileo method are all element of GNSS.
Your cellular phone, regulation enforcement, transport, airlines, and energy stations – something dependent on GPS time and place synchronization – are all susceptible to GNSS hacking. “All significant national infrastructures count on GNSS to some extent, with Communications, Crisis Expert services, Finance, and Transportation determined as particularly intensive end users,” in accordance to a report commissioned by the United kingdom Room Company. An attack that disabled GNSS in Britain would cost about £1 billion each and every working day the method was down, the report said.
The jamming, blocking, or spoofing of GNSS indicators by the Russian government is “more indiscriminate and persistent, more substantial in scope, and a lot more geographically varied than prior community reporting proposed,” in accordance to the Weekly Intelligence Summary from Electronic Shadows, a cyber stability monitoring support.

Almost 10,000 incidents of ships currently being sent bad area details
The C4Advert examine states:
1,311 civilian ships have been influenced.
9,883 incidents were being described or detected.
Until finally the past pair of several years, C4Ad considered the Russians utilised GNSS jamming or spoofing largely to disguise the whereabouts of President Putin.
For occasion, a big location in excess of Cape Idokopas, around Gelendzhik on the Black Sea coastline of Russia, appears to be inside a lasting GNSS spoofing zone. The cape is believed to be Putin’s summer months residence, or dacha. It consists of a vast and lavish private home: “a substantial Italianate palace, quite a few helicopter pads, an amphitheatre, and a little port,” C4Ad claims. It is the only non-public house in Russia that enjoys the exact level of airspace safety and GNSS interference as the Kremlin.

“Russian forces experienced developed mobile GNSS jamming models to supply protection for the Russian president”
“The geographical placement of the spoofing incidents closely aligns with spots where by Vladimir Putin was generating abroad and domestic visits, suggesting that Russian forces had designed cell GNSS jamming units to present safety for the Russian president. The incidents also align with the areas of Russian armed forces and government methods. Despite the fact that in some spots the motive was likely to restrict entry to or impede foreign military services,” in accordance to Electronic Shadows.
Ships sailing near Gelendzhik have described receiving bogus navigation information on their satellite programs. “In June 2017, the captain of the merchant vessel Atria delivered immediate proof of GNSS spoofing functions off the coast of Gelendzhik, Russia, when the vessel’s on-board navigation methods indicated it was situated in the center of the Gelendzhik Airport, about 20km away. Extra than two dozen other vessels claimed similar disruptions in the area on that day,” C4Advertisement says.

An $80 million superyacht was sent off-system by a device the dimension of a briefcase
Most of the incidents have been recorded in Crimea, the Black Sea, Syria, and Russia.
Maybe additional disturbingly, GNSS spoofing products is available to just about any one, for just a couple hundred pounds.
“In the summer of 2013, a study staff from The College of Texas at Austin (UT) properly hijacked the GPS navigation techniques onboard an $80 million superyacht employing a $2,000 device the size of a small briefcase. The experimental assault compelled the ship’s navigation units to relay fake positioning information and facts to the vessel’s captain, who subsequently designed slight class corrections to continue to keep the ship seemingly on keep track of,” C4Advert documented.
Because then the expense of a GNSS spoofing product has fallen to about $300, C4Advert suggests, and some folks have been applying them to cheat at Pokemon Go.

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
¿Qué tiene el Nokia 8.3 5G para ofrecer?
Nokia 8.3 5G oficial
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
