Dezi (Desi) was Izzy’s jailbait girlfriend in ‘84-‘85 and probably early ‘86 (rumours are that Geffen who were considering signing GnR weren’t happy that she was under 18).

She worked on Sunset Strip as an exotic dancer and choreographer and would dance on stage with GnR usually when they played a cover of The Stones’ classic Jumpin’ Jack Flash.

Since the 1960s, Los Angeles’s Sunset Strip has hosted a kaleidoscope of custom-built billboards. They’ve been labeled variously as “sky trash” and art. An architecture critic once called a 70-foot Marlboro Man “one of the most effective landmarks in the confusing landscape of our city.” Timeline put together a photographic field trip to the Sunset Strip’s last 50 years of billboard advertising.

March 28, 1986 ♪ The Roxy

“We played a celebratory gig at the Roxy [after being signed to Geffen], or rather two—an early show and a late show—on [this date]. To be honest, the shows had been booked prior to our signing with Geffen. They were supposed to be label showcases. Events overtook our plan, however, so we took out full-page ads in the local music papers to announce the gigs: Geffen recording artists Guns N’ Roses, live at the Roxy. […] We all had fresh tattoos at the Roxy shows, and people wanted to touch them. We felt like we ran the city that night.”—Duff (excerpt from his autobiography, “It’s So Easy: and other lies”)
