3 GolfTeers
Three fellas - we will call them AP, RS & DV.
If there is a common strand that unites them, then its Golf. They help each other, pull each other and never miss a chance when they get one.
The purpose of this blog is to capture some of the laughter that endured during the rounds and the event leading upto selecting the course for playing.
Monarch Bay - 10Jun2017
AP’s favorite course
DV not fond of this course. Rumor has it that AP has some stake in this course
It was a beautiful day and we started around 11am. Wind was gusting at 25 miles per hour. Felt like we are playing the British open
AP had his game face on with booming drives and had a spectacular birdie in the second hole
For some reason, RS has been enamored with the concept of FIR (fairways in regulation). He stood in the 17th tee - a par 3, 170 yards - and hit a shot that landed about 70 yards and asked us "Is that a FIR?". I replied "the only way thats going to be a FIR is that if AP and I ask you 'What the FIR was that?" RS was fuming that he thought AP and I were stingy in padding stats. Well, we are stingy brother
AP was the par man on this day. As a mark of respect, we sang "Par magale paar ..." - Great round. He also had a birdie on 11th
No wonder he likes this course and the course reciprocates.
SummitPointe - 15Jul2017
This is a badass course
Sloping fairways (especially the 4th) and crazy greens. However, 22 bucks for 18 holes. 3Golfteers say bring it on bitch
RS was riding high with all the practicing and coaching at Bridges. RS had the honors at the 1st tee and hit his customary out of bounds. Sorry RS - we forgot to tell you to imagine that the first shot has already been hit OB. Then, he laser one down the middle and long with his 3 wood. FIR accomplished with a grin ear-to-ear. Well deserved
AP and I were at the left side of the fairway by the bushes. We were visiting this place so often that we were thinking about petitioning the SummitPoint management to name it as APDV corner or something like that
2nd hole - a straight par5 from an elevated tee. RS booms one down the middle for another FIR. AP and I were conspiring silently about letting RS know that FIR is not as significant as GIR. He has 240 yards or so remaining and always pulls a 3 wood and mis-hits it into the woods on the right. Why? Why RS always thinks his 3 wood from a fairway lie can carry 240 yards when the carry from the driver off a tee's ball is 220 yards or so. Why RS why?
3rd hole - a short but challenging par3. RS goes long. Then, putts hard and smokes the ball past the hole by about 20 yards or so. Yet, he says i barely touched the ball. Well, touch is relative and if only the golf ball can talk it will tell the tale
4th hole - One of the worst holes in the course. Not even RS can find the fairway. Gentlemen: We should file a FIR with the cops that FIR cannot found in this hole. I dont recollect we have ever reached this green in regulation. Ever. Par is also eluding all of us all the time so far. I hope one day we get to find the FIR, GIR and Par in this hole.
5th hole - APs visits his customary right side by the green. If he visits there few more times, a malayalee may put up a tea stall there. He always ends up making par or bogey with a killer short game on this hole.
8th hole - The toughest hole in this course. Hands down. One has to draw the ball but not hit the houses for a chance at a par. For RS and me with our outside-in swing path, we always endup slicing this one and have a 200+ yards second shot. I am convinced that Bogey is par in this hole. To make matters worse, the green slopes severely from the center to the front of the green. Like Augusta names each hole, if we name this hole, it will be called as the Bitch
9.5th hole - after a mini break at the shop where RS and AP get their beers, their fun starts
12th hole - Second toughest hole in this course. We cannot find the fairway here as well. The only way to find the fairway is the hit a high draw and hope/pray it does not catch the slope. RS chips the ball and usually says "bite bite". Hmmm - the only way a bite could happen is if either AP or I decide to bite RS. But, we could not do that as we love hime. All made doubles here and surprisingly happy
18th hole - We have decided to name the hole as "What were you thinking". Why? Well, you will understand it by the end of this paragraph. With tail wind helping, all of us smoked the drive. Unfortunately, RS' drive had some extra roll and found the water but it is visible. RS decided to step in to the water and decided to have a swing at it. AP was all like "Dude - seriously?" RS - yeah why not. What else we expect from him. He is RS and thats what he does. AP was quick like a cat got his phone and took a picture and posted in FB. Laughter erupted with someone asking "What were you thinking?" and the consensus answer was he was not thinking. However, I get RS' angle. How many times we get these kind of opportunity to try these type of shots? Not many. What if he hits a miraculous shot? The number of what ifs were too many to pass these type of opportunity and many times it is just not about the score but the experience, courage, dare,... Well played RS. Well played. I bet - say we all meet after 20 years from now and reminisce about all the good times we have had in the Golf course, this water shot will be at the top. Thats what made is special and it would have been extra special if he managed to pull it off!!!
Shoreline - 19Aug2017
It is actually a Saturday and I would like to rename it as Birdie day.
We missed RS dearly on this day. This course is made for his style and would have made a pass at breaking 90
Going in, I had a modest goal of breaking 95
My round started miserably - those dreaded shanks were back. 10 over thru 5 holes
4th hole - Par-3, 130+ yards into the wind. There were lot of ducks - about 20 yards from our tee box. AP tees the ball and waggles the club. Swings and crushes the ball - except he catches it thin (almost blading it) and the ball directly hits a duck in the gut and we could hear the thud. All 3 of us could only squirm at this unfortunate incident. Luckily, the duck walked as though nothing happened. AP gets his first birdie of the day. The shot actually reminded me of this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4vgn1pjbYlw
5th hole - Par 4 and AP goes to the tee box and tees the ball. AJ and I joked that if all the ducks got the memo that AP is on the course and all ducks were requested to take cover and we are not liable for any injures that may occur
6th hole. Two spectacular shots left me with a 2 ft birdie and made it count
7th hole - Now, its AP's turn for his birdie. Two specatular shots and had less than 18inches for his birdie. Well, second birdie of the day
After 9 holes, AP was 10+, DV was 13+
Back 9 was much better. We had many looks at birdies and pars. Putting is what killing us and if we reduce about 3-4 putts in a round, and stop having loss in concentration, 85-90 is very doable.
The sunset was as gorgeous it gets. Blue-purple-violet skies and a bright orange ball was a treat to watch. It was a day of good golf and some bad golf and felt sad that the day came to an end
AP shot 92 and I had a 93. Mission accomplished
