Eternal Rest (Series. Ryomen x Reader ) Chapter 1: Lamp post
Author’s Note: Hey yall! This is my first chapter to my series, please excuse the edits, it was a draft but I got lazy on editing it properly. :D. Either way I hope yall enjoy this journey and I hope this series will last long. I post pretty slow but I will do my best to make it consistent as possible.
Summary:From the Feudal era and since the beggining, it was always known that the King of Curses roamed the land, tormenting the many and causing destruction. For where ever he went there was always a mysterious curse being by his side, his right hand, queen and mother of curses (YN) (L/N). It was all perfect in her eyes till a certain promiscuous human slithered into her King’s eyes. Why did things go so terribly wrong? So wrong that it was worth ripping her heart out? Reincarnation, shall commence.
The fresh breeze followed by the scattering of falling leaves felt strangely serene. Ahh yes this memory. For once Sukuna didn't have to worry about those pestering sorcerers as he lazily laid on the wooden floor, gazing at the female curse in front of him. She sat in front of him as he watched her fingers meticulously clean their weapons of blood, noticeably taking more time on his than her own.
It was moments like this he wished would last much longer. Now looking back, he never did appreciate the beauty she held. Her figure, her hair, intricate symbols that were covered by the dark green yukata she repeatedly wore. It was a gift from him after he noticed her old one was worn out. He was too infatuated with a human to notice your loving gazes and devotion to him. A human woman who in the end would prove to be disloyal. A human that held no actual value when being compared to a being such as themselves.
If he could turn back the clock he would, yet that is in the past now. A curse like himself cannot be riddled with guilt. In the end he suffered the consequences of his actions, now forced to spend eternity alone, reminiscing of the past was all that was keeping him from going insane. He laughed at the notion. To be cursed by insanity.
“Forever till the end my king,” her soothing voice instantly drew his attention.
He saw her lips morph into a smile and eyes shine with genuine content at the declaration. Her promise. He reached out to touch her, just to feel some semblance of her warmth against his fingers would satisfy his hunger.
My queen, he thought as his finger tips barely grazed the sleeve of her dress, it all instantly disappeared into smoke. The illusion was broken.
He scoffed in annoyance as he sat on his bony throne, trapped within his innate domain in the body of his vessel.
“Wait my love. I will find you,”he mumbled out.
“What was that Sukuna?” Yuji asked.
“Shut it!”
For some strange reason, time felt as if it slowed down. Trickling densely like an hourglass as you felt the ice cold liquid overpower your senses. It felt shocking. Floating in a void.
It’s black, everything around you except for the strange dimly lighted surface emitting a sickly green.
How long have I been here? Seconds. A heart wrenching pain bloomed in your chest, you gasped only allowing the strange water to flood your mouth.
No it hasn’t, it’s been years.
You screamed in agony, only for it to be muffled by the water.
Tears rolled down your eyes, blending into the black water. His smile, his face, and those prominent black symbols.
His hand, covered in thick black liquid holding a glowing crystal. Fragments of memories that come and go, haunting you endlessly. Reminding you were such a fool back then.
Why me?
…
“ Wake up, wake up,” a girl's voice woke you up as she gently shook your shoulder.
You groaned as you lifted your head from the desk, feeling like your head was full of cotton.
. “ You were pretty out of it. Didn’t you sleep well?” your friend, Mayu, asked.
You didn’t answer while still waking from that dream. Was it even a dream, it felt way too real. A chill ran up your spine just thinking about that black endless void.
“Come on, it’s getting late and I think we studied long enough,” Mayu suggested with a bright smile. “Yeah, sorry about that. It’s just I keep on having,”
“ The same dream,” Mayu finished your sentence.
You nodded your head in confirmation as you gathered your stationary and followed her to the doorway.
“I think your just over stressing about stuff. Dreams tend to show our deepest troubles, wishes,” she said with certainty. It didn’t settle right with you. “Or they can be memories of a past life, I’m telling you Mai that they feel too real. It almost feels like an out of body experience,” you explained, your eyebrows pinched together as you recalled that chilling snippet of the dream. You were so lost in thought , Mayu suddenly pulled your jacket back to stop you from walking into the bustling street.
“ Aren’t you paying attention? Be careful please,”she said concerned.
Mayu instantly caught onto your hints of discomfort and unusual aloofness. she’s known you forever and she’s known you to be strong, carefree and not little things bother you. So to see you being plagued by this worried her.
“Tell me about it then,”
“What?” you deadpanned, not because you weren’t paying attention but it came to you that you never really explained the content of your dream clearly to Mai.
“Yes, I want to know, maybe I can help you decipher it and we can find the root of the problem together,” Mai Suggested.
You could t help but smile. “Oh Mai, what would I do without you?” You joked. “I don’t know, probably get lost,” she snickered. You both giggled as you two hopped onto the train, taking two empty seats near the doorway.
“So in my dream sometimes I can see myself, but it’s not really me, I think. I look … older, different and I’m sad,” explaining it out loud just made it sound like any other dream , but you purposefully left out some of the details. “ Do you feel sad? In your dream?”
“No…” pondering on how exactly to describe it. “I feel “her” sadness, like it’s just amplified around her or me … look all know is that I’m underwater in this black river with green pool lights and then that’s not the weirdest part?” You quickly explained.
Mai gave you a curious look. “What’s the weirdest part?”
As you were to answer, the chimes rang through the intercom signaling your stop.
“Tell me tomorrow, first thing in the morning,” Mai said as you walked onto the platform.
“I will. Get home safe,” you called out, waving her goodbye as the train doors closed.
A strange prickling sensation came over your head making you wince. “ Man what is up with me these days,” you said to yourself, trudging up the dirty subway stairs onto the familiar streets you used to get home.
You made your trek around the crowded streets, passing delicious food vendors, the smoke and the illuminating fluorescent lights that the arcades gave off. The same tv store you passed every day caught your attention. Standing in front of the display window with many bright screens were on the same news channel. “On today's news, officers have reported to have found another body of a young girl within the district. This is the second case of a missing person found dead within the last 3 days. Officers say that the culprit seems to be targeting young adolescent girls and young women. It is advised that all should avoid staying out late and stay within crowded public areas. Detectives have described the e,” the news reporter was abruptly interrupted by some static interference. Despite the strange chill you got, you continued moving forward.
“What’s the weirdest part?” Mais voices echoed in your head. Well the fact that when you watch from afar, older you have pretty black tattoos across your face, not to mention that your hair is white as snow. A far cry from your ( h/c) . And you're wearing a torn kimono, revealing a portion of your chest… a gaping hole where your heart should be.
Your stomach twisted as you can still her yells and cries for help. Maybe that’s my future, that thought made your heart stop for a moment. “ What am I thinking ? Why do I do this to myself ?” Think happy thoughts like Tokyo and what are you going to cook for dinner? Putting a little hop into your step to trick yourself into a better mood. Now that you think of it, your dreams started when you encountered that pink haired boy a couple of months ago.
The lights of the lamp post brightened the park path, until you reached a certain point. They were dead , leaving one side completely illuminated and the other dark. That prickling feeling shot through your head and you noticed something, it was absolutely quiet, no clicks from grasshoppers or birds chirping. The sound of rushing cars from the streets behind you have eerily disappeared.
Your feet felt like lead as your heart rapidly beat against your chest. Something isn’t right. The bleak obsidian forest felt ominous, it even felt like the shadows were getting darker and growing?
What did that news lady say again,“Stay within crowded public areas.”
Your instincts told you better, you turned on your heel to walk back.
Then that sensation of needles amplified and the once warm outside felt like it dropped in temperature. Your heart sank as you heard a whisper behind you. Your throat felt closed and you were stuck in place, frozen by the unknown presence behind you. “Okasan,” it whispered once more but this time it tickled your ear.
There was no time to scream as you were pulled into the dark shadows . There was none of your belongings left behind on the path as if nothing happened .
...
A bright blue light appeared at the surface, a startling contrast that wasn’t you haven’t seen before. It beckoned you to come for it. “Okasan,” you can faintly hear. Unconsciously, you reached for it.
…
It all happened so fast, it was unfathomable leaving you gasping, streams of tears across your face as you felt a strange object being shoved down your windpipe.
Your mouth was pried open by something you only see in nightmares. Your strength was nothing compared to this thing, using all your might to push its nimbly hand away from your face but to no avail. Whatever little crystal it placed into your mouth, you refused to swallow. The creature was already one step ahead, clamping your mouth shut and covering your nose with the other.
In the distance you can hear havoc and growls, people yelling.
Suffocating, the impending pain and exhaustion were high, and your resolve was depleting. The sound of growls, tremors were slowly being drowned out. Why is this happening to me? Did I ever do something to deserve this?
The little crystal felt uncomfortable as it traveled down your throat. An electrifying sensation traveled through your body as spots speckled your sight, and your surroundings began to cave in.
…
A melodious, mischievous laugh echoed as you drifted, children's laughter. Oh how you missed them.
A bright blue light appeared at the surface, a startling contrast that you haven’t seen before. It beckoned you to come for it. “Okasan,” you can faintly hear. Unconsciously you reached for it just the bright light blinded your sight. Your peripheral vision caught a glimpse of someone as you were being pulled into the light while they were being dragged into your abyss.
…
Pain. That’s all you can process as a blood curdling scream escapes your lungs, coughing and gasping for air after coming out of that purgatory state.
“It's time to wake up, mother ,” an all too familiar voice gently spoke followed by a small whine . As your vision cleared the first thing you are greeted with is the spindly long figure curse you knew all too well. How could you forget those adoring gold eyes and the lopsided jagged smile he presented you with, he is your son after all. Tears continued to seep out of your eyes, as the pain slowly diminished and relief blossomed instead.
“Strife,” you said in affirmation as he gently placed you on your feet. It was all clear to you now, the lights of tall buildings, the strange noises that filled the air and the clothing you wore.
“I’ve been reincarnated,” you said as you looked into the cloudy night sky. The feeling of the breeze hit you, it felt sweet to be in the open once again, spreading your arms as if to embrace the sky. Gently twirling in it like if you were dancing with it.
A laugh bubbles within your throat, you couldn’t help it.
“Finally I am free from my imprisonment!!” You yelled into the air, a smile plagued by insanity drawn across your face. Basking in the light was exhilarating, the air against your warm skin.
“Oh how I missed the human realm,” you spoke soothingly to Strife as you gently caressed his large face. Setting your forehead to touch his, “ And now that I am here, we have to find the others,”
Strife let out a low hum in approval. “Mother, there is something you must know before we look for the others,” he said.
“ And what is that?”
“The sorcerer’s will come for you,”Strife said as a snarl escaped his mouth.
“Mhhhh, I figured as much. Do you have anything in mind?”
Strife eyebrows knitted as he thought, a smile fell across your face. Just like always. Thinking about everything.
One moment everything was like the old days until you noticed his long ears perked up, twitching immediately sending him to put a defensive stance in front of you. “ What is wrong?”
“THAT cursed user is here,” he hissed while his black fur began to stand on its ends. Whoever this sorcerer must be strong, in other words will be a nuisance to you. A sigh left your mouth. “And I just woke up.”you whined.
.“Mhhhh, then do what you have to do?” you said. Seeing Strife's mischievous grin only meant one thing, you weren’t going to like it.
...
Sukuna continued to ignore the bickering between the brat and his friends. Discussing another case of a potential curse causing the death of humans. He closed his eyes and attempted to return to his memories. His eyes shot open when he felt a ripple of curse energy, again. This is the second time. The first time it occurred a few months ago followed a smaller wave, it slightly drew his attention even as he resided within the brats body, he chose to ignore it. It was nothing compared to his power yet he couldn’t shake the strange familiarity that curse energy brought, it was like he had forgotten someone’s name but couldn’t recall who it was. It didn’t matter to him in the end as he had no need for such miscellaneous things.
That was until the second ripple occurred shortly after dark. Unlike the first one, it held more energy causing Yuji and Kugisaki to stop whatever they were doing. It was heavy with malice and expanded much farther, warning other smaller curses to leave. An energy dense similar to his own. It couldn’t be, no. A rush of excitement enthralled him as a wicked smile crept onto Sukuna’s face. He could practically taste the distinct aura, bitter yet sweet just as he remembered. It took every ounce of self control not to burst into laughter as he pinpointed what district the curse energy was coming from. It was all making sense now. Don’t worry, my love. Soon we will be reunited.

Eternal Rest: Chapter 2: Mandarin
Authors note: Hey ya’ll! I know it’s been a while, but here is my second chapter to my series. I also want to mention that I do not own JJK or any characters obviously, just writing out of enjoyment! Hope ya’ll enjoy this chapter and im always open for convo!
V/N: Vessel’s name
YN: Your name
L/N: Your last name
Since your awakening, the past few months have been blissful yet bitter at the same time. Trapped within the body of a young girl living an absolutely monotonous life made you cringe. It was nothing compared to the golden days of the past, wrecking havoc across villages, the screams of humans as your children devoured and plagued the land. The delightful times spent with him before that promiscuous human came along. Yet, it was still better than the alternative. Recalling those nightmarish moments for eternity until that fateful night.
You hummed as you enjoyed your pleasant realm, not so frigid and unwelcoming like before. Strife is out looking for his brothers while he demands that you wait for his return. “Cursed user” he mentioned. If it rattled him that much then it doesn't mean good news? Another problem for another day, not of concern at the moment. All you wanted was to be in control but since that won’t happen any time soon you could only toy with the girl. Freely floating enjoying the suspenseful show (V/n) was putting as she was suddenly knocked into the dark water you loomed within. Causing ripples as she sporatectly thrashed, her voice muffled by the liquid. You sighed in annoyance as she continued to disrupt the once peaceful environment, again. “Who told you, you can come in here?” a snarl would escape from your lips as your long fingers reached for her face, eyes wide with fear. Her eyed full of terror abruptly changed to concern, her eyebrows knitting together as she calmed down.
“Look I don’t have enough time to explain, but please save them, help them escape,” v/n weeped. A wicked smile crept onto your face. “What do you mean?” you pretended not to know what was going on. Pushing away from her and flimsy placing a hand over your forehead.
“Please, there's a curse attacking Mayu and everyone else, I'll… i’ll,” she said as she began to hyperventilate. “You’ll what?” you toyed with her. Just say it girl. Watching gleefully as her eyes gleamed with tears. “You can take control,” she whispered. Gripping onto her forearm, pulling her further into the abyss. “That’s all I needed to hear,”
You beamed with joy at the chaos before you. Squeals, yells and screams echoed throughout the abandoned building followed by the floor cracking and shaking as if tremors were occurring. “Well, well what do we have here?” you mused at the grotesque curse before you. Contorted with many arms and legs, stitching littered every limb, very human-like yet not. Voices, so many voices came from it as it stood before you, stopping the havoc it caused as soon as you appeared. Its many eyes scanning over you.
“What exactly are you?” you asked, placing a hand on your hip. It had multiple souls of humans, but no longer human itself essentially implying that a cursed user must have been experimenting. Without warning it swung one of its thick arms toward you, narrowingly missing you. Somersaulting through the air, you landed vertically on a concrete pillar.
You let out a cackle as adrenaline fueled your movements. “You'll be the perfect trial run for my cursed energy,” you said as you held your hand to it, glowing green energy concentrating at your fingertips. “ Let's see how much energy I have. You should be honored to be the first to witness this moment.” As you slowly closed your hand into a fist, the cursed being began to shriek, its disembodied voices now thrashing as it appeared from anyone's view that it was being squished by something that can't be seen. Up until you instantly closed your hand into a fist, the entity exploded. Sending pieces of its flesh and goo to litter the entire room leaving you satisfied.
“This will suffice for now,” you hummed as you swiftly landed onto the pavement. “Let me out!” Vn cried out from within you and simply ignored it. “There's no rush to return, your friends are safe,” you pointed out as you examined the strange building, a lot more sturdier but colorless compared to the shrine you once lived in. No use in staying, home awaits if it is still there. Walking away from the dismantling building, concrete and dust with specks of sparkling glass crushed under your shoe.
“There on the other side, I need to know that they're safe,” she continued, making you roll your eyes. That’s when your ear picks up on small disembodied voices, but much more faint and fragmented. It reminded you of young curses, so punny and adorable in your eyes, but this voice had a certain tune reminding you of someone.
You picked up the pace, ignoring your vessels pleas and the fact that you were releasing too much curse energy making your presence known until you stood in front of a doorway. The shadows thickened and a sickening aura emitted from the room. It was absolutely dark, yet you could see the silhouette of something cowering in the corner, its soul caught your attention first. It looked exactly like the other creature you got rid of, however this one had no malicious intent and only contained one small soul. Its so small. Its cries and weeping made your eyes widen, a pang of pain made you unconsciously clench the fabric of your skirt.
You moved closer and crouched down to its level. Taking a deep breath easing your energy to make it less intimidating to the poor soul. “It's alright, I'm not going to hurt you,” you softly spoke. The thing finally revealed its face, black empty sockets and its body resembled a figure of clay. “Mother, Mother,” it continued to repeat.
“Let me help you,” you said as you extended your hands forward. The little soul momentarily hesitant, then moved its miniature hands onto yours. You placed your forehead against it. “Your soul has been manipulated so your body follows that form. So all it needs is to be molded back to its original form,” you weren't sure why you were explaining this to the quiet human child before you. No longer in that nasty disguise. Taking off your jacket and placing it around his shoulders. Tears welled into his eyes as he suddenly lunged toward you, hugging you. Stunned for a moment, you patted the child's back awkwardly. Its been so long since you’ve interacted with a human child it felt foreingn.
A laugh escaped your mouth. “Its time for you to go home.” you said as you picked him up.
You came across the intersection of two hallways leading to different exits. Voices of frantic students came from the left while it was dead silent from the right. No, the hairs on your arms told you otherwise.
You let out a low growl as you set the child down, continuing to clutch on your leg. Taking a deep breath, you closed your eyes allowing your senses to pick up on the un-welcomed presence of a sorcerer. Not one, but two and from the energy one of them gave made your throat tighten. It was instinct that whoever that one particular sorcerer was could become a potential problem.
As you crouched to the child once again, you fitted the hood of the jacket to his head. Him only staring curiously at you. “If you walk all the way down to that red door, people will be outside ready to help you. They’ll help you find your mother,” you gently said. Imbuing some energy into your palm as you lightly pushed his back. “Now go” you ordered, the boy giving you one last glance before heading down the hallway only appearing to engulf him.
The echoes of his footsteps long faded away into the white noise. Dripping water, the sound of branches scratching the walls and creaks of the old building. A few minutes passed by but it appeared that the sorcerers weren’t going to attack. From what you could tell one of them left. You let out a breath you weren't aware you were holding in.
“I’ve come for you, my love,” honey covered words that once would have brought joy, but now struck fear into your body.
Your mouth hung open in disbelief as the strawberry blonde hair man revealed himself. Black signs symmetrically littered his face and that smile you always admired long gone rather sent a chill down your spine.
“Sukuna” you whispered. Yn turned a shade paler as she bit the corner of her lip forcing herself to hold back a whimper. How could you not recognize his cursed energy? It was so overwhelming now, it hit you without warning.
“In the flesh my dear. We can be together now,” he said proudly as he extended his arms outward graciously as he was closing the distance between you.
You hand clenched the fabric over your beating heart. It used to be hollow, empty but now there’s a concrete bloody organ pounding within you.
“How could you say that after what you did to me?” you managed to say without breaking your voice.
Sukuna stopped midstep. His smile morphed into a smirk as he put his hands into the pockets of his pants. “It's in the past now. I'm aware I made a mistake and I suffered the consequences,” he impassively mentioned. He noticed your scowling features, eyes narrowed but your body posture told him something else: slightly hunched and footing unsteady.
“Is this how you greet me after centuries. I thought we were more than fellow curses,”
he said, giving you a cocky grin.
“You made it clear that I was nothing to you. I was a fool to believe otherwise,”
You had no intention of keeping the conversation going nor did you want to find out first hand what Sukuna would do once he was within arms reach. Mistakenly probably from your lack of practice, you were tensing too quickly. Sukuna raised an eyebrow as he scanned you head to toe.
“If you're not planning on trying to outrun me then I would gladly explain everything, (l/n) (Y/n) or should I say Ryomen (Y/N), ” As he took one more foot step, your heart dropped. With that you leaped backward, your feet barely grazing the ground at the speed you were traveling at. Leaving a cloud of dust and a depression in the pavement where you once stood.
A sigh escaped Sukuna’s lips. “I was hoping you wouldn’t be difficult…” He cracked his neck. “But playing this little game of yours only makes me catch you more,” His eyes burned with excitement.
The situation was getting worse by the minute. Your thoughts racing as you did your best to form a cognitive plan of escape. YN hair whipped behind her as she jumped and crawled the walls of the building. You were doing everything with what little power you had. The growing feeling of bile rising in your throat as you felt his ever growing presence.
This is all a game of cat and mouse, you were losing. What is this feeling? Your own heartbeat was drowning out any other noise.Without being aware, you found yourself on the roof of the building. It was a way out but it wouldn't guarantee Sukuna would stop his hunt. You knew far too well that the open space would only fuel his excitement.
Fear crossed (yn)’s face as she felt a burning sensation, prickling all over her body as she suddenly stopped in mid sprint. Its presence is attempting to intrude into her own.
A horrified realization came to you. He’s trying to reach my soul.
Your legs moved on their own, the edge inching closer by the second until it didn’t. You were barely over the edge, free in the air. For a second you really believed you could escape and if you were really lucky with the amount of power you were limited too could actually soar into the night sky. That glimpse of hope was shattered the moment you felt a strong grip on your ankle. You were flung into the ground, the force that went into it was enough to send you falling from that floor into the next. He held back, you noticed.
“Are you satisfied now?” you could hear him say from above you. He was in front of you yet you looked everywhere other than his red eyes.
Just as you tried to get up, Sukuna pinned your shoulders down. “My love, why won’t you look at me?” You felt everything, his warm breath as it brushed your cheek. You struggled against his hold but it was no use. He was enjoying this yet felt a slight pang of annoyance with you. He released his hold on one shoulder only to forcefully grab your upper neck. Exerting some strength to pull your face so your gaze would meet his.
YN let out a low growl, her face contorted with disgust at the king. Sukuna only starred with curiosity and contempt.
“Why are you acting this way?” he said, genuinely curious to hear your reasoning.
You didn’t respond, mouth sealed shut and your eyes glossed over. “Tch. Well if your not going to say it then why don't I dig deeper,” a snarl curled at the corner of his lip.
You gasped as you felt a splitting headache emerge, concentrating so hard on not letting him intrude into your domain.
“ What do we have here?” Sukuna whispered as he stepped into the black lake. Leaving ripples with every step he took toward the huddled figure in front of him. There you were crouched into the ground, the bones of your spine peeking through the milky sheer like skin. white hair splayed everywhere. He could hear you faintly weep and mutter under your breath.
Seeing you in this state made a lump grow in his throat. The last time he had seen the queen of curses was from an incident he didn’t want to recall. Now right before his very eyes was the woman he longed for imagining that their reunion would be jovial, ecstatic and even him perhaps being vulnerable in front of her. Yet that wasn't here. He sensed fear and heartbreak. Your feeble state and shock had him frustrated.
It wasn’t meant to be this way.
He towered over you, yet you paid him no attention. Reaching to touch your figure, a force pushed him back. He stared in disbelief at vn as she used her body to shield yn. The image reminded him of a cat defending her kin.
“ Don’t touch her,” v/n warned, voice shaky despite her fear her eyes were full of disdain toward him.
“I know what you did ,” her voice broke mid sentence. The atmosphere changed from fear to something that made Sukuna’s red irises constrict. “Get out,” vn only said. Sukuna was instantly tossed into reality, stunned as he felt two hands grab the side of his face. Having no longer YN phase but now only saw V n.
“Stay out of my head,” she ordered as she clashed her forehead against his. The force of the blow made him take a few steps backward. VN no longer had the energy both mentally and physically exhausted, she intentionally fell back to the unwelcoming lake-like domain just as her body collapsed to the ground. Leaving seething Sukuna to deal with the nuisance appearance of the white haired sorcerer. Yet not as grouchy when returning to the shrine as he caught a glimpse of the dark haired boy.
You lay on the ground unconscious, Yuji was awestruck once he was fully in control. Gojo chuckled as he leisurely strolled past Yuji and Megumi to get a better look at the teen. “So this is the person who headbutted the King of curses. Haha,” he continued to laugh as he kept recalling how a few moments earlier a young girl was able to stand up to the king himself without hesitation. He gently maneuvered his hand under your back and under your legs to lift you.
“Students, this is who we have been looking for. Meet Ln yn, curse of insanity, mother and queen of curses ,” he said, presenting YN to a stoic Megumi and flabbergasted Yuji. Yuji is noticeably confused at the entire situation and not quite grasping who exactly they were.
“Ryomen’s wife,” Megumi finished.
…
“Why am I so alone? So alone in my mind,” you felt torn, alone huddled on the lake's surface. Watching your chest move in and out. Exhale. Inhale.
A light tap of your back causes you to flinch to see V n eyebrow pinched together and eyes wide. She crouched down no longer hovering over you. “I… I” she stuttered.
“If you even think of criticizing or belittling me, I’ll” you said with venom before Vn cut you off.
“I'm not going to do that even though you’ve been mean to me for the past 6 months. It doesn't mean that you have to deal with someone who hurt you,” she explained herself.
YN crouched for a few more moments, wondering when her vessel would leave her be. She was about to snap at her as she looked up but her anger quickly melted away. Her vessel held a soft smile, no malice or spite but genuine care for Yn’s wellbeing. Watching her hand lay over her heart. “Whatever he did to you is none of my business, but I can feel it. And I don’t like it,” she whispered in the last part.
Tilting your head to the side, your tears blurred your vision. “You must think I am weak. For all the big talk and rumors of me being powerful, it turns out I'm not any different than the small curses walking around,” you chastised yourself.
“I don’t think you're weak. I know you're really strong. You're just in love,” she said as she neared.
“Love makes you do dumb things. I kind of get it,” she patted your back. You chuckled at her, “You're strange. For a human you try to compare your boring life to my life,” you observed.
“Well like I said, I don't know what really happened but I felt it through you,” she let out a laugh as well.
For some odd reason you were growing fond and appreciative of how the girl was comforting you. You might regret what you were going to do in the future but it wouldn’t hurt to feel what you felt that night. You reached to gently touch her face, a lack of fear. Strange girl, how did you not notice this?
“Let me show you what I’ve been through,” you offered her, she gave a single nod. '`Down the rabbit whole,” V n added. Both Yn and Vn were swallowed by the water, ripples were the only sign left of their presence.
Three days later:
The clicks and consistent beeps from the monitor routinely made their chime on cue. Gojo tilted his head slightly as he continued to assess what should be his next move. With the higher ups breathing down his neck, they already decided they wanted the girl before him. Dead. “She’s been in a coma for a few days now. No sign of waking up,” she said as she scribbled some chicken scratch on her notepad. She let out a sigh, she knew Gojo was being a bit serious even for him it was abnormal.
Despite initial diagnosis, (V/n ) was barely gaining consciousness. Everything sounded amplified for an odd reason as she listened to the conversation taking place.
Listen carefully. Don’t make sudden movements, you whispered.
Yn listened intently as well from the depths of her black lake, smoothly sailing. A new dilemma now is that she was caught by the sorcerers. She is surprised that she hasn't yet been removed permanently by them.
“What's on your mind? Hmm. This exactly reminds me of that day you brought Itadori in,” Shoko commented.
“Nothing much, the usual now the addition of another reincarnated being into my student group,”
“Hmm. So you're going to ignore orders?” she asked.
“It's not like I’ve not done it before. Plus how hard can it be to add another kid, Itadori has managed to have some sort of control over Sukuna,”
“Well I can think of a couple of reasons why my patient under your care is not a good idea. For starters if she is what you claim she is than what would stop Sukuna from teaming up with his wife,”
Wife? You were puzzled. If you recall properly Sukuna never proposed to you and never gave the slightest intention that he would. For him to kneel to someone other than himself would be a miracle.
“LN was only at 1/10th of the power and was easily defeated by Sukuna in a minute. I'm sure I would have no trouble,” Gojo said confidently.
You rolled your eyes, whoever this Gojo sorcerer was bold. Maybe you should have paid more attention to Vn thoughts.
“For your information she wasn’t trying to fight in the first place,” VN suddenly spouted out as she shot up from the hospital bed.
Both Gojo and Shoko tensed as they looked at the girl. The heart monitor beeps increased in pace.
“Why don’t you settle down? Shoko suggested as she neared VN approaching cautiously..
Gojo’s laugh quickly brought her out of her thoughts. “Is it you speaking or (Y/N)?” he questioned and rather approaching slowly like Shoko, Gojo made a bee line right next to VN bed side.
“Its just me,”
“How do we know, it can be that (Y/N) is just using your voice?”
You let out an hmph. You tuned out of the conversation and decided to let the girl handle the situation. This interrogation was useless and boring. You didn’t want to be involved with sorcerers and even if you were to intervene it could only make the situation worse.
Listening to the water's movements whenever you swayned your hands. You just let the current take you deeper into the liquid until the light could no longer penetrate the obsidian void. You hummed in delight feeling safe.
It wouldn’t be so bad if I were to rest for a while.
The sky was so blue you could taste the color. The grass tickled your legs. You admired the horizon on the mountain you resided in as the sun sat up high above you. “Do you need help?” a little voice piped up. You turned to see a young boy at the doorway of the patio. He had the appearance of a 12 year old with sloppy oil black hair, large gold eyes wearing a dark blue hakama and gray kosode.
You smiled at him as you tended white sheets to dry. “I would like that. Thank you Strife,” you said as you gestured to the large basket filled with additional fabric. “Where are your brother’s ?” you asked knowing well they were hiding within the bushes a few meters away. “Not sure, they were “training” the last time I saw them,” Strife answered with some annoyance. You chuckled at the young boy's noticeable sibling love.
“You know this is unnecessary,” a husky voice followed by the distinct noise of liquid swishing.
“Why is that, Ryomen?” you inquired as you helped Strife extend another white sheet. This all felt so domestic to you. The thought made you smile even more drawing Sukuna’s attention further as he sat down onto the tatami.
“For starter’s you could have it done by some humans if you even let them up here,” he grunted as he poured another cup of wine.
“Not gonna happen. Unlike you I only go after the humans out of sport with nothing to gain. Letting human servants all over my home doesn't sit right with me,” you explained, Strife handing over the last of the pins for the sheets.
“Women, children, they crawl everywhere. Why not have them exchange their safety for other services they could provide?” he said with a grin. You knew what he meant and you turned a blind eye to it. At the time, you were developing such a strong devotion and loyalty to Sukuna that you always excused those flutters in your stomach as admiration. You were naive to think it could be something else.
“Then why not have your children do the work,”
“You don't get it do you. “ You said after thanking sunny, heading over to the male curse finishing the last of his cup. You were the one who towered over him as he looked up to. If it was anyone else Sukuna would have them killed immediately but you weren't anyone else. She kneeled over to grab a tangerine from the platter of fruits that were present.
Sukuna just studied her for a moment, her hands delicately peeling the skin of the orange sphere releasing a citric yet sweet aroma.
“Are you even listening?” you asked, taking his hand with the empty cup he was holding, snapping him out of his daze..
“No not really,” he confessed, only to receive a smirk from you.
You poured the last of the viscous drink into his cup, making sure to concentrate on the pouring rather than how your fingers were touching his. They were strong, veins protruding and his claw-like nails similar to your own. You hoped your cheeks didn’t redden.
“I said it's because it means I get to spend more time with myself, and my kind. I mean if you look at it, you're here spending time with me rather than doing whatever you do back at your palace,” you were genuine that much Sukuna can tell.
Sukuna pondered on the thought. He never imagined himself staying at another territory that didn't belong to him but then again he could handle any sorcerer that crossed his path. Furthermore, this was your mountain and territory. Not a single human within sight nor weak spirits. Your children did a good job on warding them away, them being possessive and protective over their mother. Despite your initial scorning them for drawing them away you eventually gave up.
With that being said, it was peaceful and quiet within the walls of your home. No bustling nor additional noise that the humans would cause like his palace. Ryomen came to appreciate the simplistic life you choose to live, that is why he found himself here to satisfy his curiosity over your strange ways. But he would never say this to you.
“True. I would be having more fun if I was in the comforts of my own palace. A never ending amount of food, wine, and women. Not like this empty worn down castle of yours,”
You rolled your shoulders and still gave him a smile despite his commentary. “If it's not up to par with your excellency you're always free to leave. Just as you're always welcomed my King,” you said, popping a slice of the mandarin into your mouth.
Sukuna raised an eyebrow. He knew you were mocking him on a certain level, but honestly this was the friendly banther you two entertained overtime. You entertained him, became someone he viewed as an equal, who can endure sparring with him and hold against sorcerers. Someone who was immortal and came from the same world so why is it that he desired to have you by his side at all times. He started to pay too much attention to little details about you and it became nerve wracking. He noticed how your hair was held back by a head scarf making the symbols on your neck more bolding e. Sukuna sometimes imagined himself feeling them. Are they like his?.
“As long as you have what I need then there’s no rush for me to leave” he asserted as he gulped the last of his wine.
“Well I'll make sure there's always wine and food whenever you come by,” you happily said, tossing him the rest of the sour fruit.
Yn stood up to retrieve another wine bottle from the cellar leaving Sukuna watching her silhouette walk away. Maybe you should have paid more attention to his words. “You have what I need,” he thought to himself.

Eternal Rest: Chapter 3 : Caged Bird Ryomen x reader

Sukuna
My king
Sukuna recounted the many names you would call him , all the ones he could recall. From the moment he met you, that first encounter was always something to remember. “Little girl,” he intentionally called you to annoy you despite the fact you were a grown woman. How your cheeks would puff in annoyance or you let out a small snarl, flashing your fanged teeth. Overtime, he came to respect and address the titles you were given even as you dismissed them stating that they don’t mold you but make it known what you are. “ mother of curses, LN, YN, my right hand, ”
“Pest, doll, my yn, my love… my wife,” if only there was time for that last one.
A sigh escaped from him. How he yearned to hear your voice say any of them again. “Forever till the end,” your promise. He wished to see your lips morph into every syllable of the promise you made. Sukuna sank further into his throne , adjusting his arm into his robe, with a pensive look over his face. An idea came through.
He lacked patience. He opened his eye to be greeted with a dark room with only the blinding light of the tv on. Soft snores can be heard and based on the position his vessel was in, he was asleep. Scanning over the mounds of blankets and other silhouettes he caught sight of the one thing was trying to find. VN was sound asleep on the couch, leaning against Kugisaki. She appeared serene and even smiling slightly. Probably having a nice dream.
Sukuna removed any malicious intent he had before he peered into your soul.
…
Yn moved her arms elegantly and placed each footing gently. Twirling on the surface of the lake. Her kimono swayed following in pursuit of its wearer. VN simply gazed with awe and was transfixed as she watched YN move. Swinging her arm over her head as she extended a silver fan, spinning gently and finished her movement with a small bow. VN gave out an applause as she sat crossed legged on a seating pillow. One that she requested from VN after getting constant back aches from sitting on the surface.
YN let out a small smile. “Its nice to celebrate the fact that i'm actually awake again,” you said as you walked toward the girl. You held your hand out for VN to only tilt her head in curiosity and a questioning look came across. “Get up. I'm going to show you,” you ordered. “But I don’t know how to dance,” she mumbled out a shy look. “I didn’t really ask did I,”
Hesitant but didn't want to make YN annoyed, VN took her hand.
“Besides this is going to come in handy very soon,” you foretold. Waving your hand for an orange fan to appear before VN.
“Now follow me,” you instructed. The small chimes of your hair ornaments commenced once again as you showed Vn the correct movement. Up from above, Sukuna continued to watch. Pity.He had originally planned on grabbing you and pulling you into his domain but when he felt the tranquility in your domain and the smile that adorned your face he wouldn't do it. Ruining this festive moment would only enrage her more so he sought the alternative, watching. This was the most entertainment that he has had and for you to be the center of it satisfied his hunger at the moment. Just wait my dear, I will come for you. So he will watch for the meantime, biding his time until the right moment to pluck you from the safety of your domain into where you rightfully belong, his malevolent shrine.
…
“Again,” you repeated. VN let out a small sigh as she moved her fan downward to finish the routine. You raised an eyebrow disapprovingly. “ This will have to suffice for now. But what did I expect,” you spoke out loud.
“I didn't know I was auditioning to be a geisha,” VN sarcastically commented.
“Be grateful I'm even teaching you a curse technique let alone one of my strongest one’s,”
“Wait what?” Bewilderment covered her face, tripping on her footing.
“Your too weak on your own and I can’t have a weak vessel,”
“Go figure,” Vn let out under her breath.
“Your always going to be with me right?”VN
“Why? Do you hope I disappear one day? “No, not like that. I mean I’m glad and happy to some extent we are stuck with each other.
She let out a laugh. “Your like a mean older sister but I'm okay with that. In some ways you're like a mom too. And obviously you are cuz that's your title. Telling me what looks good on and what's not. Being brutally honest and overbearing at times but you have your reasons,” Maybe you have gone soft. Now when you think about it, Vn comes to you whenever she is bothered by something, sad or just wants to be in your company. She comes in with her strange burst of happiness that reminds you of your human life. She begs you to conjure up the strange modern clothing she fantasizes of wearing. Items that she spends hours talking about with the brown haired sorceress. You indulge her in her wishes and she even encourages you to try some on because “Your figure would look great in this,”
Have you gone soft?
“VN,” you barefly uttered her name. “Hmm” she replied, turning to see you. A strange smile, but instantly she paled up and you saw her lips open. You didn’t get to hear a word with the noise of quick zip behind you. A sharp tug from your obi pulled you from behind, a strong grip on your arm dragged you from the beautiful sodden domain.
...
The soft tune of a biwa roused you. Even as you widen your eyes it took you a few more stubborn blinks for the blurry vision to go away. You could hardly move your body, it felt as though the atmosphere was dragging you to the ground. It all ached, every ligament, bone and muscle was sore. “Why do i feel like this?” you groaned, feeling your limbs tensing up in your attempts to move. A hand suddenly shoved your head back into a soft pillow.
“Stop moving so much,” an all too familiar voice said, giving you all the more reason to fidget.
You snarled to be greeted by Sukuna’s questioning look. His hands held a taut band stained in black goo. You stopped for a moment with your mouth agape. Scanning over yourself you realized that you were doused in your own blood, a kimono so torn if it wasn't for your bandaged chest then you would have been completely naked. A noticeably large gash traced from your abdomen traveling to your spine.
You slightly tilted your head, this is an echo of when a sorcerer attacked you, fatally wounding you. This was the day “He” brought me to his palace so he could tend to my wounds. But why are you reenacting it all over again? Did you fall asleep when VN was speaking to you? It's happened before.
Ryomen just watched with his beady eyes, he leered at you. The perplexed face scrawled onto your face makes him smirk, he can practically see the gears clicking in your head.
It seems she hasn't figured it out. He mused. So he’ll continue playing along.
Ryomen tugged the bandage earning him a wince followed by scowl from you. Raising an eyebrow. “ Were you so weak that a sorcerer like that was able to leave you almost dead?”
He chastises you.
You didn't know how to respond. This doesn't feel like one of my memories, more fabricated. Making eye contact with the man before you made your guts churn even as they could possibly spill out at any moment. “ This doesn't feel right,” you whispered more to yourself than to him. He faltered just for a split second.
Ryomen leaned in closer, refusing to let the bands loosen but rather stiffen more as if he was punishing you for saying what you said. “Of course it doesn't, pest. Not when your supposed to be the Queen,” he refused to let you out of his sight. The atmosphere was becoming tense.
YN suddenly let out an airy laugh her demeanor changed without missing a beat. “I made it out, didn't I. And I did win, that sorcerer is long gone nowI? You don’t have to be so strict with me,” YN giggled, visibly relaxing as she laid back down. She chose to look at the ceiling instead and listen to the biwa play.
What are you up to? Ryomen thought.
“Someone has to or else you'll never learn,”he added before knotting the ends of the bandage. His fingers caked in the thick black blood.
“Aww were you worried about me,” Yn teased, playing with her blood stained hands. The pale complexion only signed more to him that the injury was worse than she made it out to be. But he didn't have to worry, this was only a memory of the past.
Thick black blood strung from her fingers, dripping slowly like sap, fell right onto her chest. Without much thought and far too late to go back on his action, his palm made contact with her sternum. Right where he could feel an organ pulsate, the rise and fall off her chest along with it. “You okay, Ryomen san? You're the one not looking good,” she commented, mouth slightly agape.
He only let out a low hum. Letting his hand slide across you beating chest to the crook of your neck. YN held her breath. Feeling his nails gently trace the laced symbols . A chill ran up her spine. She was at a loss of words? He didn’t do this in real life. No, this was the moment he just bandaged you and left to clean himself up.
“How I have waited for a century to feel you?” He murmured, an entranced look glazed over moving his thumb in a circular movement caressing your cheek. An aromatic atmosphere fogged your mind. His touch sent butterflies into your stomach, involuntarily you leaned into his hand, using your own to overlay his.
A scrawny servant came through the door and immediately bowed his head in a frantic manner, Sukuna paying no attention to him yet you did. There's a reason why you disliked this memory so much?
.“My lord, Lady Kikyo is here,” and at the sound of that name, the illusion shattered . the tune of the biwa broke sequentially with the cries and gasps from the other servants, watching their fellow companion collapse to the floor gurgling red liquid from the mouth and their master foaming with anger. It slipped his mind, the name of that human that ruined the moment.
He Yet, that moment of rage brought you to reality immediately sitting upright. You and Ryomen made eye contact for what felt like the longest minute. Despite the initial shear wave of insanity that you emitted, it didn't phase him at all and if it did he showed no sign of it.
He simply gave a coy smile. “It was good while it lasted,” You didn't reply as you thought long and hard. The ceiling, the servants and everything started to disintegrate away, dissolving away leaving just the two of you and for some reason that made your heart drop.
Even if it was a spell, it was comforting to be distracted but now it was all turning into dust leaving. Unsettling. A crimson lake, white bones and a pretty skull shrine.
Your ey c irises constricted along with the rest of your body. It was just you and him now within His domain.
Your jaw clenched, watching him tower above you sitting in his throne. A light chuckle escaped from his lips, “Why such a long face, my queen ? Aren’t you thrilled to be here?” He said with a smug look.
You took a deep breath. “Why am I here?”
His question went unanswered. “Since I'm in a good mood I'll answer your question. ”
“It's so simple you already know,”
“Holding me as a prisoner in your domain is not something I would think you could do but its not out of the realm of possibility,” you sarcastically responded, yet even as you said it, your face was devoid of any emotion. It didn't go unnoticed.
Ryomen cocked his head to the side, analyzing the situation just as he always did . His pretty jem was now within his grasp. There you stood ever so still under his watchful eye. Quite frankly it was making you get the creeps. “You're not a prisoner here, you're my honored guest,”
Calm down, you chanted to yourself, any attempts really in order to avoid your mind from really grasping the situation you were in. “Let me go or else,” you tried to threaten but it came out more meek than ravenous. Any effort to make yourself unafraid was useless when a predator already knows you so well. You clenched your fist so tightly that your nails slowly began to tear into your palms.
“Or else what. You are in no position to be making threats,” Ryomen immediately humbled you and the fact is he was right. He was already able to attain three of his fingers while those good for nothing sorcerers were incapable of finding even one of your own stones.
An iron grip locked your soul and there was no sign of it losing at all. “Your right, but what would you have me do,?” you defensively stated. “We are together at last, you are now safe and sound within my domain. We have all the time in the world,” The small string of sanity that was holding you together was fraying as you felt your knees buckle into the ground. My soul, a soul, its fragmented.
You hardly noticed that tears started to put down your face, not a hitch nor a small cry to warn you how truly overwhelmed.
Short breaths escaped your lips, catching yourself before stumbling forward. Black speckling orbs grew around vision. Throat tightening to point where it felt like you wouldn’t be able to breathe. Why is this happening to me? That little thread was becoming a ticking time bomb.
Ryomens strong stare was startled as he raised his eyebrow. A heavy wave of a pungent sweet but sour aura leaked from where you stood. The offset signs of one thing. Mania.
He warped in front of Yn , who evidently was too preoccupied with her own state to care. Kneeling down to see that the woman’s before ignoring the foreboding aura. It didn’t require much thought, Ryomen acted in a certain way that would appear to contradict all those rumors of him.
He enveloped Yn in his kimono without a struggle from her. He could feel the drumming of your heart and with how skittish you were becoming it became clear to him too you were going to have another mania attack. Despite everyone's belief that he would kill other curses instantly if they pose any annoyance to him it didn't apply to YN.
YN mania was part of her insanity so it couldn't be helped. It wasn't an uncommon occurrence and overtime he developed some patience with her and paid attention to watching how her children would calm her down.
He was at fault and he knew that. He didn’t care for pleasure or the carnal desire to sleep with Yn. Even though a few hundred years ago at first he was initially believed that it meant he didn’t view her romantically. But it seemed that there was more than what appeared at the surface?
“Let me go,” Yn voice rasped, fighting her sobs. She would not allow herself to fall apart in front of him, he would only use it against her.
Ryomen simply listened, soothingly caressing her back. What would her children do again to calm her down?
Even though YNs vessel only consumed one stone, Ryomen knew that if YN didn’t calm down soon, then her reminisce would start to weigh on Yuji’s soul, not that he cared about the brat but could only stir up trouble..
“YN, your going to listen carefully,” “You want me to listen when I can barely even hear,” she let out a cry of frustration. Your breathing became uneven taking sips of air, and the sounds of blares began to deafen your ears.
Smudges of green and black orbs began to distort your sight. “My insanity” you horsely whispered. Despite YN’s fear, Ryomen remained calm yet diligent. He squeezed your shoulders.
“Take a deep breath in, can you do that for me?” sounding muffled, you felt his warm breath brush against your ear. Nodding hesitantly, you felt your lungs expand. “Good. Now breathe out,” and you repeated the cycle, concentrating more on your breathing.
His forehead touched yours unknowingly, aware of his aura. “Do you remember what you used to call me when we first met?”
“Old-man” you retorted.
He let out a chuckle. “No, guess again,”
“Stranger,” your response was quick and prompt. Of course you would remember what you called him. That was what he was/is.
“Hmm yes, and do you think I’m still one?”
“Yes,”again your responded with equal pace.
He mused. “I guess on a certain level i am but I know you Yn more than you know,”
“I doubt that”. Maybe it was not the best to be instigating him yet the adrenaline was still making you act without much rational thought.
“Your still the first spirit that I saw in the woods, caring for the little curses that came across your path. I know you like those orangangy things… what are they called,” hearing him snap his fingers. “Mandarins. You prefer the company of your own kind and to live a simple life like when you reigned over the mountain range. And I know your insanity would crush any soul, even yours,”
Contemplating whether he should continue “ And I prefer if that didn't happen,”
The little speckles were clearing away, you were now able to peer up at him with your doe eyes. His face had an eerie calmness to it.“Then let me leave, I was fine before you took me from my domain,” you said without thought.
His remained stoic. “No,”
Tears stung in your eyes, eyebrows pinched together Ryomen can see your building frustration. “And why no? I’m so unhappy here,”
“I can make you happy. You can everything as long as I’m here”
That’s wasn’t the answer you wanted to hear. It weighed on you. You shock you head in disapproval. “ That’s not good enough,” you growled. “ It doesn’t make up for anything that’s you have done,”
Your hand curled into a fist . Slamming it without much effort pity fully Ava ish his chest.
Ryomen raised an eyebrow. “You want another reason. Fine then. You’ll crush your vessel's soul the moment you go berserk.”
“ No I won’t. It won’t happen because I’ll be within my own domain away from you,”
. He snapped and grabbed your wrist in mid punch. “ Is that what you want to hea, some pathetic lie to yourself,” he seethed. “. It’s the truth and you know it. What will happen when your vessel starts to deteriorate inside out? Hmmm. Those sorcerers will only move your execution date closer and you’ll have to wait another century till you get another vessel.
“ Good. Put me out of my misery. I’ll be far away from you,”
That struck a chord with him.
That calm face gone into a scowl bearing a snarl at you. “Your drying out my patience pest. I’m doing this for you, to keep you from hearing yourself.”
“Sure but what will protect me from you ,” the tears rolled down your pale cheeks.
You ripped your arms out of his grasp fumbling to steady yourself. Making distance between the two and luckily Ryomen stood place.
“ Like I said before you are a guest here Yn not a prisoner. When you manage to get out, I have no doubt that you won’t be able to, there will be others who are going to hunt you. Even if you do not believe me, you have my word I will tend to your every need ,” He enunciated the last word.
Despite his glamorous proclamation, there is only so much a boy could do when continuously calling wolf.
