Gondolas from Above by Trey Ratcliff Via Flickr: Venetian Gondolas at rest... I heard during lockdown that the Venice canals were so clean that you could see fish, octopi, even dolphins. I don't know if that dolphin thing is true, but I want to believe it.

4000 places by Trey Ratcliff Via Flickr: There are approximately 4,000 places to stop on the drive from Te Anau to Milford, and this is one of them. It’s kind of a must-stop! The scene is crazy-powerful, and it changes throughout the day. I’ve noticed sometimes in the morning it is foggy and hard to see, but it’s still interesting even then. When planning car-trips in New Zealand, it’s best just to add a few extra hours into the experience!

This photo was a bit of an accident.
I was as close as humanly possible to the launch, on the edge of the media area in the NASA compound. When the shuttle blasts off, there is a long delay before you hear the thing. Right when I took this, the first staccato wave ripped through my skeleton. I think I just hit the trigger out of fear and shock combined! But, it came out pretty good, all the same.

Lenticulars. New Zealand by Trey Ratcliff Via Flickr: This is a new area I discovered near Arrowtown and Queenstown in New Zealand. When the grasses get long in the late summer, they move in the breeze. It’s almost like you can see the wind itself while standing there. Those flying-saucer-shaped clouds are quite rare and are called Lenticulars. When you're a photographer, you get to collect all sorts of useless information like that.

The Lake at Nikko by Trey Ratcliff Via Flickr: Daily Photo - The Lake at Nikko This place was Cold with a capital C, as you can plainly see. And worse, I had forgotten my special little gloves with the flip-up fingertips. So I was goin' finger-commando while trying to line up this shot. The wind was pretty stiff in my face. The wind always seems to be against you, eh? I think I just never notice it when it comes from any other angle. By the way, there is only one place that is convenient to quickly warm up your fingers ... Read the rest at the Stuck in Customs blog! Many new HDR offerings! This HDR Software area is really heating up... I know Nik has something new coming soon, as does OnOne and many others. What do you guys and gals think? Are you playing with these? Send me a Tweet (@TreyRatcliff) or leave a comment -- I look forward to your feedback! Note on Photomatix Pro 4.0 It is not available to the public yet -- but if you get Photomatix Pro 3 (use the Photomatix Coupon Code STUCKINCUSTOMS to save the most money), then you will get a FREE upgrade to Photomatix Pro 4.0 when it comes out... If you want to buy it, or get a free trial, you can see if you can get a good special offers from Adobe on that link. New to HDR? BM Approaches
Right before Burning Man, I'm heading to Las Vegas to do some speaking at my gallery opening there at Caesars Palace. I have works from Series 1 and some new works from Series 2. They look pretty sweet when they are printed out huge... just a little better than the tiny phone screen on Instagram! I hope to see you there. I know lots of Burners are in the area... The event is on Friday, August 16th at 6 PM. #MarriottBonvoy #MarriottAmericas #rediscovertheamericas #burningman

The Dirt Road to Paradise by Trey Ratcliff Via Flickr: After you pass Glenorchy, the paved road continues for a while as you approach Paradise. The paved road then turns into a dirt road. At this point, many visitors turn around, which is a shame! You can keep on rolling down this road in your rental car for quite a way. There’s even a few river crossings you can make, like Arwen on horseback. You can do it! Probably. I even see giant campervans going through here… anyway, the dirt road is in pretty good condition, so don’t let that turn you back! - Trey Ratcliff Click here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.

Ancient Mount Fuji Village por Trey Ratcliff Por Flickr: Here I am in that little village of Saiko. I don’t know if it is always relatively empty or just this one day, but hardly anyone was around. I did see this one older gentleman sauntering around, and he happened to saunter right into the frame! A lucky grab! :) This “look” for this photo is a bit experimental, but I kind of like it. To achieve it (this is Photoshop-heavy-jargon I’m afraid!), you can duplicate the layer then do some extreme sharpening and a black and white conversion using something like Silver Efex Pro (there is a review here on the site). After that, you can change the blend mode to Hard Light… it makes an interesting effect! - Trey Ratcliff Click here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
