the first season of boy meets world is so different to the rest of the show like not just in vibes but also minkus is completely eradicated until a cameo in season 5 and topanga is a wholly different character to who she is later. also I way prefer Cory and topanga's relationship starting here in the 6th grade than the later show retcon that they've "been inseparable since pre school"

not to get into gmw discourse and blog about the minkus family in 2024 (not u ambition's version ❤️) but why are ppl STILL spreading the narrative that farkle was abused?? the thing about jennifer throwing the ring wasn't that serious and it was more of a hint/clue to who farkle's mother is as he said it at the start of s2 aka the season she was introduced. they never say that stuart and jennifer have screaming arguments or fight all the time so idk where this narrative of farkle doesn't want to be at home comes from. when we see them together they're perfectly loving and happy together, and clearly adore farkle. yes jennifer was a l'il insane in bmw but she's obviously grown up and matured, and stuart obviously has too, and she's clearly where farkle gets his crazy from. jennifer is openly affectionate with farkle, saying that he makes her proud every day, kissing his cheek in front of his friends, and calling him kiddo. those aren't the actions of an abusive monster but a loving mother. stuart obviously wants the best for him and is proud of him, and also clearly wants to spent more time with him once he realises that farkle feels like he doesn't see him enough. that doesn't make stuart abusive, it means he's a workaholic and perfectionist who needs to be reminded that making money isn't everything when u have a family. neither of them are shown to be physically, verbally, or emotionally abusive, in fact it's the opposite. ok stuart might work too much, but he still showed up for career day and when farkle called him in money, and clearly loves him. jennifer's screentime amounts to like 5 minutes in which she's shown to love her son and have a strong relationship with her husband, while still maintaining her strong personal from bmw. farkle has a loving family, he doesn't need riley to save him, he only doesn't want everyone to visit his house bc he's embarrassed of their wealth where no-one else has that kind of money. a rich boy like him should probably, realistically, be at a private school, but he's not bc public school is where his friends are and his parents understand that and want him to be where he's happy. the only thing u could really claim is an issue is that stuart wants farkle to go to princeton and he might not but that's a common trope in lots of teen/coming of age shows so if gmw had carried on they could've touched on living ur parents' dreams vs yours but we'll never know if that's where they were going or not. but we do know that farkle wasn't being abused in anyway and to keep forcing this made up narrative after a decade is just wrong

Why was Jennifer Bassett demonized so much in the GMW community?

I’m on my meds right now so girl meets world analysis isn’t very appealing. However, I have some thoughts to get off my chest in retrospect.

The demonization of Jennifer Basset by Girl Meets World fans and fan fiction writers was crazy. It started with the ring quote, and then everyone jumped to conclusions. I get throwing stuff at a partner isn’t a good look but that doesn’t give any evidence that Farkle was being abused. The world’s obsession with misery “porn” needs to be studied. I get like “kill your darlings” or sad-headcannon-because-its-my-way-of-dealing-with-trauma. It honestly felt a lot of fics romanticized it just because Corey has that beaten puppy look.

It made no sense why Jennifer was getting all this hate for being a bad mother when Farkle literally explicitly said, how his dad is never around and how he doesn’t spend time with during GM Money!

That’s cannon information that fic writers could expand on. I know a lot did but in a very, his parents are never home and that makes him sad and lonely. Only few when into detail about his anger and his thoughts behind their absences, most only using that line to make him seem deep and someone whose in need of saving.

Yet it seemed fanfiction writers (along with actually gmw writers) wanted to defend Minkus. His character is super misogynistic and dated. Jennifer feels fresh and, I actually can believe someone like Jennifer to be a changed women; But Minkus didn’t change and he’s successful, that’s a good message to send to kids.

And maybe Jennifer is terrible alcoholic mother who abuses her children, but probably not. Nevertheless, we know Minkus is workaholic who doesn’t spend time with his kid, that’s undebatable. Only if the topic is done with grace and meaning to the fic should something so violent be explored. there are so many other things that make Farkle interesting that are cannon about his life. His cannon info is enough to put someone in years of therapy? Like His parents already fight all the time, his dad is never around and he’s been bullied all his life. Why add more when there’s already enough suffering to go around?
