The idea for Strid was a character who wants to be an edgelord, but fails miserably. Her time as a street thief is ruined by her wealthy merchant parents bailing her out. She tries to be a lone wolf, but just has too much love to give her friends. She became an adventurer to prove to an ex that she could be cool.
