“I don’t like watching my Money grow, Pause. I like watching my companies grow...for me, it’s not fun, if it’s not fun, I’m not doing it.” - @duskopoppington Out of context, this line on page 249 of Culture Vultures by Dash and Kenyatta Griggs, (@hip_hop_motivator ) looks hilarious, but in context, it’s the key to life. In a conversation with @vladtv , Dash was told that Warren Buffet enjoys “watching his money grow.” What I personally read from that, is Warren needs no tie to culture, no tie to people, or making anything better, just ownership. A necessary mentality in a world more savage if it’s accepted as your world, but still benefits you if you don’t, only because you are “Black,” or African-American to generally speak, and you run off of emotion. The Black Businessman/woman has to not care, yet balance their emotional attachment to things. In my experience, Whites don’t possess, as employees or otherwise. In the same vein of Buffett, their mind is on the advancement of the bank, not the advancement of the people. This is not a generalization, as Dame says about Lyor Cohen, but an empirical assessment backed by study, not to mention Vlad himself agreeing that watching your money is fun to do, and even though he has been a part of HipHop, the fact that he agreed said something. The fact that he agreed, in opposite to Dame’s opinion, made me write this. This isn’t emotional, but observant, and I found it interesting that Dash encapsulates that emotional attachment, vs. non-emotional attachment in those words, Pause included. Cop the book though. These are just my thoughts that may be agreed upon or not, but I think it’s worthy of discussion, and a deeper insight into how Black people are in this world, juxtaposed to the rest of it.
