Penry Williams (1802-1885). Stormy Landscape. ::: [Mikhail Iossel]
* * * * *
“Anyone whose goal is 'something higher' must expect someday to suffer vertigo. What is vertigo? Fear of falling? No, Vertigo is something other than fear of falling. It is the voice of the emptiness below us which tempts and lures us, it is the desire to fall, against which, terrified, we defend ourselves.” ― Milan Kundera, The Unbearable Lightness of Being

Nice to see art by this Welsh artist getting so much attention. He was actually born in 1802 in Merthyr Tydfil. He did die in 1885, in Rome, where he had lived with his partner, sculptor John Gibson, until his death in 1866.
The date above, via The British Museum, seem to be the estimated production date of ‘Stormy Landscape,’ so refers to when Penry Williams was active.
