Falling water levels in reservoirs that supply the Attica region, which includes the Greek capital, must be tackled as a matter of urgency due to a prolonged drought, the head of the Athens Water Supply and Sewerage Company, EYDAP told BIRN.
While conceding that there is no water shortage currently in Attica, as is the case in many Greek islands, EYDAP’s president Giorgos Stergiou, told BIRN: “We have had long enough to plan ways to deal with the prolonged drought in Attica, depending on the different scenarios.”
Greece’s Ministry of the Environment and Energy on August 27 announced that in collaboration with EYDAP, it has prepared a ‘road map’ to be implemented within four years to secure Attica’s water supply.
In the last two years, reserves in Attica have dropped from 1.158,million cubic metres in August 2022 to 703,339 million cubic metres today, an average loss of about 225 million cubic metres per year.
“Because the level in the reservoirs has dropped, as much as possible we have to ensure the rational and optimal treatment of water resources, to ensure the uninterrupted… supply of very high-quality drinking water for the Attica basin, for as long as is necessary or at least until climatic conditions change for the better,” Stergiou said.
The ministry said that it “will choose the best solutions that are realistic to implement”.
Solutions include the reduction of losses in the water supply networks, the partial diversion of water from rivers that end up in the artificial lake at Kremasta, new reservoirs, use of recycled water for irrigation and industry, the enrichment of underground aquifers with recycled water, better stormwater management, desalination and using green energy resources.
But all these solutions involve high initial investment costs or high operating costs, Stergiou warned.
“In any case, a long-term project has to be done, as the issue of climate change will not end tomorrow; the issue is how fast you have to do it and what costs you are willing to take,” he said.
In the meantime, EYDAP has implemented various measures to conserve water, either through the activation of boreholes or the reactivation of Yliki Lake, an important source of drinking water for Attica, Stergiou noted.
At the same time, the construction of a treatment centre of sediment in eastern Attica, where an agricultural network is being developed for the Mesogieon plain, is underway.
The revival of Hadrian’s aqueduct, which was built 2,000 years ago and is still operational, will also help to meet irrigation and gardening needs in eight municipalities of Attica. Chalandri municipality already uses it.
EYDAP is also implementing a large investment programme that will gradually replace aging pipelines to reduce leaks; it has already replaced mechanical meters with digital ones to offer a real-time consumption picture and timely notification of leaks to consumers.
“We are also running a public awareness campaign to reduce the consumption of potable water in cases such as when we shave or wash balconies or cars, etc. This is a quantity of water that… is wasted. Obviously, it will not solve the problem. However, it can affect consumption,” Stergiou said.

FAQ
18+?
Yes. Mun is a 1994 baby and this is an 18+ blog as it will contain adult themes at times so no minors should follow and i MEAN THIS as there CAN absolutely be real legal consequences.
Any Specific tagging?
Yes. I tag common things that tend to freak people out and will tag things if asked to within reason.
i tag spiders as #spider snakes as #snake and insects as #bug or #insect.
As for me all i ask is that if i follow you that you tag skeletons, specifically human skeletons and skulls as that is something that will get to me. (Halloween on tungle is not a fun time for me ;-;)
I see you have animals? how many?
many. 2 cats, 2 central bearded dragons, 1 rescue bird and a LOT of fish.
I heard you wrote a book?
You heard right. i have written and had published an informative guide to keeping bearded dragons as pets which i wrote specifically to provide an easy to understand, vet approved and up to date beginner friendly guide to help give new or prospective dragon owners a good start point for learning about these amazing reptiles and their needs.
This book is available as a paperback or digital eBook and you can find it by searching 'Guide to Bearded Dragons as Pets by Jordan Bonner' on Amazon, Kobo, Apple Books or you can contact me directly to place an order if you dont want to give your $$$ to Apple or Amazon (IE i can input your shipping address into the printers order form and show you the cost then you can pay that via a Direct Transfer/PayID where i'll them put your order in directly to the print company who will send the book/s to your shipping address)
DUDE, why do you have a native bird in your house!?
Cricket is indeed an Australian Native Noisy Miner. He was orphaned as a nestling during a storm and rescued from stormwaters. Ideally he would have been raised to being able to fend for himself then re-released however his extremely young age, specific species and being a honeyeater tend to make for a very difficult re-release.
Cricket turned out non-releasable and as such would not survive in the wild without a flock. I am a holder of the required licencing and certifications to have his species and as such him staying with me is the best option for him as he can live out his lifespan comfortably in a safe enviromnent where i ensure he recieves ideal nutrition and appropriate space to stretch his wings and engage in as much normal behaviour as is possible.
The alternative to me keeping him would be effectively sentencing him to death in the wild through exposure, predation or death/injury through attacks from the already established and territorial flocks of Noisy Miners.
Minerals? SHINY ROCKS???
Yep I collect them. If you want to take a look at my collection all my posts of them are tagged as #my minerals
Can you tell us a bit about you?
Why not? I'm an aussie and a transman who's been on T since ~2017-ish. I am open about my identity as a transman and im always happy to answer questions about this, offer tips and advice to those newer to transitioning or who would like to start but dont know how to. All i ask is that if youre going to ask questions you remain polite and open minded (in other words dont be a bigotted asshat or you get the block)
Im a huge fan of animals, particularly the less conventionally cute and cuddly and hold certifications in Reptile Zoology, Herpetology (study of reptiles and amphibians), Zookeeping, Australian Native Wildlife Rescue and Wildlife Sustainability & Conservation.
Ideally i would love to eventually get into work in the rescue and rehabilitation side of things focused on Australia's native reptile species.
I already keep rescue bearded dragons to give those who need special help or rehoming a second chance that they may not otherwise get and through this i have experience in managing and treating various health concerns in these animals. I recently took in a now 12 month old (as of january 2025) dragon who needed rehoming and i have a now extremely elderly dragon i took in as a rescue back in 2018 in terrible condition who i have nursed back to as good a condition as is possible. This one is a real fighter and has made it through so much in his little life. As of january 2025 thig guy is an estimated 11 years old at MINIMUM with potential to be even older than that (amazing considering the usual captive lifespan is 10-12 years and this guy didnt have the best start to life), he's beated a very nasty tumor and due to his very old age is now blind, has arthritis in his feet and drools on one side of his mouth. He doesnt let this get him down and is amazingly still willing to excercise via swims in a warm bath. I hand feed him and assist him with his hydration nowdays as his blindness makes it difficult for him to find food and water unassisted.

The Importance of Storm Drains in the Chemical Industry
Introduction
Storm drains, often an overlooked element of urban and industrial infrastructure, play a vital role in the chemical industry. These systems are engineered to manage and control the flow of rainwater, ensuring that it does not become a vehicle for hazardous substances. The chemical industry, with its complex operations and use of various toxic and flammable materials, heavily relies on storm drains to mitigate environmental contamination, comply with regulations, and protect public health and safety.
Environmental Protection
One of the primary functions of storm drains in the chemical industry is to prevent the contamination of natural water bodies. Chemical plants often handle hazardous substances that, if not properly managed, can be washed away by rainwater into nearby rivers, lakes, and groundwater systems. Storm drains are designed to channel this water away from potentially contaminating areas and into treatment facilities where it can be processed safely.
By preventing contaminants from entering water bodies, storm drains help maintain ecological balance and protect aquatic life. Polluted water can lead to the destruction of habitats, loss of biodiversity, and long-term ecological damage. Effective stormwater management through proper use of storm drains ensures that the chemical industry can operate without compromising the integrity of surrounding ecosystems.
Regulatory Compliance
Compliance with environmental regulations is a significant concern for the chemical industry. Governments at local, state, and federal levels have stringent regulations governing stormwater management to protect the environment and public health. Non-compliance can result in severe penalties, including fines, shutdowns, and legal actions.
Storm drains are integral to meeting these regulatory requirements. They help control the discharge of pollutants and manage stormwater runoff in a manner that complies with laws such as the Clean Water Act in the United States. By implementing and maintaining an efficient storm drain system, chemical companies can avoid legal repercussions and demonstrate their commitment to environmental stewardship.
Flood Prevention
Flooding is a major risk in industrial areas, particularly in the chemical sector where heavy machinery, sensitive equipment, and hazardous materials are prevalent. Storm drains help prevent flooding by efficiently channeling large volumes of rainwater away from industrial sites. This is crucial in protecting the infrastructure, reducing downtime, and ensuring the safety of workers.
Without adequate stormwater management, heavy rains can overwhelm industrial facilities, leading to costly damage and potential chemical spills. Properly designed storm drain systems mitigate this risk by ensuring that rainwater is quickly and safely diverted away from critical areas.
Public Health and Safety
The safety of workers and nearby communities is a top priority in the chemical industry. Storm drains contribute significantly to public health and safety by preventing hazardous substances from contaminating drinking water sources and reducing the risk of exposure to harmful chemicals.
In the event of a spill or accidental release of hazardous materials, storm drains can help contain and manage the spread of contaminants. Many modern storm drain systems include features such as containment basins and filtration units that can isolate and treat pollutants before they reach the broader environment. This not only protects public health but also reduces the potential for accidents and incidents that could endanger lives.
Water Conservation
In addition to managing runoff and preventing contamination, storm drains can play a role in water conservation efforts within the chemical industry. By capturing and storing rainwater, these systems can reduce the reliance on other water sources, such as groundwater or municipal supplies. This is particularly important in regions facing water scarcity or during drought conditions.
Stormwater harvesting through storm drains can provide a supplementary water source for non-potable uses such as irrigation, cooling, and cleaning within industrial facilities. This not only conserves valuable water resources but also helps companies reduce operational costs associated with water procurement and treatment.
Technological Innovations
Advancements in technology have led to the development of more efficient and effective storm drain systems. Modern stormwater management solutions often incorporate features such as real-time monitoring, automated controls, and advanced filtration technologies. These innovations enhance the ability of storm drains to handle large volumes of water, detect and respond to contamination, and integrate with other environmental management systems.
For example, real-time monitoring systems can track the flow and quality of storm water, providing immediate alerts in case of contamination or overflow. Automated controls can adjust the operation of storm drains based on weather conditions and water levels, optimizing performance and preventing failures. Advanced filtration technologies can remove a wide range of pollutants from storm water, ensuring that only clean water is discharged into the environment.
CONCLUSION
The importance of storm drains in the chemical industry extends beyond mere infrastructure; they are a crucial element in safeguarding the environment, ensuring regulatory compliance, preventing flooding, protecting public health, and conserving water resources. As the industry continues to evolve and face new challenges, the role of storm drains will only become more critical.
Investing in modern, efficient storm water management systems is not only a regulatory necessity but also a proactive measure to ensure the sustainability and resilience of chemical operations. By prioritizing the proper design, maintenance, and use of storm drains, the chemical industry can continue to thrive while minimizing its environmental footprint and protecting the communities in which it operates.

The Importance of Tree Maintenance
Trees are an important part of our environment on both a macro level across the globe and on a micro level like your own backyard. These majestic creatures provide shade, beautify our landscapes and offer environmental benefits such as improved air quality and stormwater management. However, like any other living thing they can become unhealthy and pose a safety hazard. It is crucial to support the health of these trees through regular maintenance and professional inspections. Maintaining trees is not just trimming them in the Summer; it encompasses soil testing, fighting disease infection, learning about each species’ environment and how best to care for them to preserve longevity. It is important to choose a tree care company that has experienced individuals on staff that can properly assess each situation and provide the best solution for the health and maintenance of your trees. During the inspection process, your ISA Certified Arborist will look for red flags such as discoloration, root rot, holes and fungi. If any of these issues are detected, your arborist can recommend and implement a disease management plan that may include pruning out infected or dead limbs, fertilizing the roots to improve health, or applying certain fungicides or insecticides to the plant. Another vital component of maintenance is regular pruning and thinning. These services help to improve the health and aesthetic of a tree by removing dead or dying wood, pruning out limbs that are growing too close together, reducing a plant’s overall size and shape, and reshaping branches that obstruct walkways or roadways. Staking and guy wires are also removed during this time to help prevent girdling injuries. Additionally, this is the ideal time to apply winter protection for evergreens such as a wrap or burlap. Trees with overgrown limbs obstruct visibility on roads and sidewalks, which poses a safety hazard for pedestrians and motorists. Regular maintenance pruning helps to manage tree size and shape, preventing encroachment on neighboring properties. Trees with a wide canopy can be pruned for a more natural and pleasing aesthetic while still providing adequate light coverage to the yard or landscape. This service can help increase energy savings, decrease the risk of damage from wind or ice, and reduce the potential of limb failure. Lastly, during this time it is often necessary to remove stumps in order to stop suckers and fungal root rots from reoccurring. This is especially important when a stump can be the perfect habitat for invasive pests such as termites and carpenter bees. Stump removal can be done using a variety of methods including mechanical chipping, grinding, pulverizing or burning. Our crews are equipped with the appropriate machinery for each job to ensure a safe and efficient operation. via https://treeaestheticswa.wordpress.com/2025/01/25/the-importance-of-tree-maintenance-3/

Griffith Feed & Grain Warehouse & Offices
Griffith Feed & Grain engaged Asset Building Systems (ABS) in late 2015 with a vision to build a state-of-the-art commercial building/trading premises where the company could operate and sell its broad range of animal feeds & supplements, saddlery & equine supplies, pet food & equipment and clothing & footwear lines in Griffith, NSW.
Working collaboratively with ABS, the final design was a 25m x 12m x 6m commercial warehouse for grain storage with internal offices and front-of-house.
The building consisted of a galvanised portal frame, insulation for climate control, and a premium powder-coated steel exterior, which gives the grain storage warehouse building a modern aesthetic.
Asset Building’s turn-key construction process began with excavation and removal of excess soil, then construction and pouring of footings and concrete slab, along with the construction of the main frame, cladding, roof sheeting and stormwater connection.
Asset Building Systems also managed the construction of the offices inside the shed. We set up the shed for commercial operations including with data points, plumbing and electrical – ready for trading upon completion.
Were there any modifications or changes made at any stage of the project?
During construction, it was identified by the client that a containment bund or embankment surrounding the chemical storage area was going to be a critical addition to the commercial warehouse given Griffith Feed & Grain operated a regional depot to store and distribute chemical, fertiliser and seed.
The modern warehouse facility was created with space for up to 520 pallets and IBCs to meet the Australian regulations in case of chemical spill. In Australia, the requirements are that bunding capacity must be at least 110% of the largest container or 25% of the total stored within the bund – whichever is greater.
Asset Building Systems worked proactively to design and construct a safety chemical containment bund that houses and protects, and separates the chemical storage area from spoiling other inventory in the industrial warehouse.
Why was Asset Building Systems Selected for the Project?
As a local company with in-house custom fabrication capabilities and a long-standing reputation as the most trusted warehouse contractor NSW, Asset Building Systems was the first choice of Industrial Shed Builder for the client.
Offering end-to-end support, including design expertise, and in-house fabrication, with the agility of a local contractor and the ability of a state-wide leader in industrial shed construction.

How Proper Excavation Ensures Effective Drainage and Water Flow
Proper drainage is essential in construction and landscaping to prevent erosion, flooding, and foundation damage. Excavation plays a key role in shaping land for efficient water flow and avoiding costly issues. In Jonesboro, AR, hiring a professional excavation company ensures proper site preparation, grading, and drainage management. At Dark Horse Drilling, we specialize in precision excavation to create effective drainage solutions for residential and commercial projects. This article highlights the importance of proper excavation in water management and its long-term benefits.
The Importance of Proper Drainage in Excavation Projects
Without proper drainage, water accumulation can lead to severe issues such as:
Foundation damage due to water pooling around buildings.
Soil erosion, weakening the stability of land and structures.
Flooding, causing water damage to property and landscapes.
Standing water, leading to mosquito breeding and soil instability.
Excavation ensures the proper grading and slope of the land, allowing water to flow away from structures rather than pooling around them. This is especially important in areas like Jonesboro, AR, where heavy rains can cause rapid water accumulation if the land isn’t properly prepared.
Key Excavation Techniques for Effective Drainage
1. Site Grading for Water Flow
One of the most important aspects of excavation for drainage is grading. This process involves reshaping the land to create a slight slope that directs water to a designated drainage area. Proper grading ensures that:
Water does not pool near foundations or driveways.
Rainwater flows into storm drains, ditches, or natural drainage areas.
Landscapes and gardens maintain healthy soil conditions without waterlogging.
2. Digging Trenches for Drainage Systems
Trenches are often necessary to install underground drainage pipes, French drains, or stormwater management systems. These trenches are carefully excavated to the correct depth and slope to allow water to flow efficiently.
Common uses for trench excavation include:
French drains to redirect groundwater away from structures.
Stormwater drainage systems to manage runoff from roofs, roads, and driveways.
Utility trenches for installing underground pipes that help regulate water flow.
3. Installing Drainage Ditches and Swales
Drainage ditches and swales are surface water solutions that help control stormwater runoff. These shallow, sloped channels guide water away from buildings, roads, and low-lying areas.
A well-excavated drainage ditch will:
Prevent water from pooling in unwanted areas.
Reduce soil erosion by slowing water flow.
Protect landscapes and roads from water damage.
Proper excavation ensures the right depth, width, and slope for efficient water flow, preventing overflow or standing water issues.
4. Creating Retention Ponds for Excess Water
In larger commercial or residential developments, retention ponds are often excavated to collect and slowly release excess water. These ponds act as a controlled drainage system, preventing flooding and soil erosion in surrounding areas.
Retention ponds are commonly used in:
Commercial developments where large amounts of runoff occur.
Residential neighborhoods to manage excess rainwater.
Agricultural properties to help regulate irrigation and prevent waterlogging.
By excavating the right depth and positioning the pond correctly, water can be managed efficiently, protecting both land and structures.

Wastewater from residential homes & commercial businesses, along with perhaps pre-treated industrial effluent, is referred to as sewage.
What are the various approaches connected to Sewage treatment?
There are several STP plant techniques available.
One case is the one with large-scale centralized systems with a system of channels, pipes,& pump-stations (known as sewerage) to de-centralized systems, for example on-site treatment systems. Sewage is passed across to a treatment facility by it. Stormwater from urban runoff (combined sewers) is also transported to the Sewage Treating Plants via the sewers.
What are the various steps at every stage in a sewage treatment?
Primary & secondary treatment are the two processes that comprise standard STP Treatment Plant; advanced treatment includes a tertiary treatment stage that includes nutrient removal & polishing techniques. In secondary treatment, organic compounds can be reduced by either aerobic which includes oxygen for its initiation or anaerobic which can be performed in the absence of oxygen as biological processes.
The significance of Sewage Treatment Plants In urban towns of Noida
The weight as well as volume of Wastewater in India is increasing at an alarming rate as a result of the country's rapidly growing population & industrial environment. We have a concerning situation since freshwater supplies including rivers, wells, & groundwater are diminishing. A few among the whole community grew fearsome that these treated water will eventually cost a lot of monetary amount.
Increased wastewater levels have further consequences!
It is not only harmful to human health but also has the potential to contaminate other water supplies. For example, rivers may become contaminated when toxic water seeps into them. Contamination increases as contaminated water moves downstream & combines with additional water sources, including rivers. Commercial RO Plant is the best sewage treatment plant manufacturer in India at best affordable price and quality.
Wastewater also contaminates subterranean water supplies & seeps into the ground. Because of this, almost every source of water in contemporary Indian cities, including Noida, is tainted, including wells, rivers, & also including rivershoes.
Noida is utilizing a variety of sewage treatment systems with a criterion for choosing STP
The majority of the countless Sewage Treating Plants STPs that have been created utilize biological treatment techniques. In addition to the technical & economic factors, architects & managers must consider the quantitative as well as qualitative characteristics of each alternative when selecting an appropriate technology.
