Ivelisse Jimenez
Tumblr media
This image of Ivelisse Jimenez work (above) is from an exhibition I curated last summer at Deborah Brown's Storefront ten Eyck. Developing from abstract concepts, Ivelisse Jiménez creates works where simultaneity, contraction and uncertainty are inherent characteristics. Her constructions are made from diverse as well as ephemeral materials that are adapted and utilize the installation space. Her swatches of materials can be transparent or opaque. She often utilizes floor, wall and ceiling simultaneously. She lives and works in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Design Hunting
By Samuel Anderson
Published Apr 8, 2015
Art History of Bushwick “Making History,” an exhibition of 400 artists, all of whom have or have had studios in Bushwick in the past ten years or have recently participated in any solo or group show at a Bushwick gallery, will launch at Storefront Ten Eyck (324 Ten Eyck St., nr. Bogart St., Bushwick; 917-714-3813) with an opening reception from 4 to 7 p.m. on April 19. Krista Saunders Senna and Dexter Wimberly curated the show on a first-come-first-served basis, sending out an open call to Bushwick artists and capping the submissions at 400. Tickets to the closing reception on May 10 entitle guests to one artwork from the exhibition (which includes work from Loren Munk, previously shown in 2013’s “The Decline and Fall of the Art World, Part 1: The One-Percenters,” and Meg Hitchcock, who makes collages out of sacred texts). The exhibition is organized by Arts in Bushwick, known for Bushwick Open Studios, an annual three-day festival in June; the sales from “Making History” will fund a book to celebrate the tenth anniversary of BOS in 2016. For more information about the exhibit, click here, and for an online preview, click here.

Julie Schenkelberg's installation wins Artprize
Congratulations to Julie on her incredible installation
Tumblr media
“Symptomatic Constant” is her representation of a shipwreck in the Midwest. It is filled with items locally sourced from the Grand Rapids area, including retired sails from a Lake Michigan boat. Julie Schenkelberg is represented by Asya Geisberg. Read more about her piece here:

I had the pleasure of including an installation by Julie in a show at Storefront Ten Eyck. I loved watching her create her work on site. two images from Inhabiting ten Eyck below:
