NEW MUSIC: STONEBWOY – AFRICAN PARTY + ALBUM RELEASE DATE

Ghanaian sensation Stonebwoy has dropped a new video titled “African Party” in celebration of Ghanaian Independence (6th March).  

An electrifying single produced by Ghana's Streetbeatz, “African Party” is performed in English, Patios and Twi and is all about enjoying life and being carefree. Accompanied by some playful and party inspired music video Stonebwoy explains the celebratory approach and timing of the release:

''African Party was inspired by the year of return we had in Ghana last year - People were really celebrating the continent and everyone boasted of having a good time in the Motherland so yeah that's it...African Party''

With this drop Stonebwoy also announced his fourth studio album entitled Anloga Junction which is due out 23rd April.

“African Party” is the second single to be taken from the up-coming album and was inspired by Big Trils' massive tune “Parte After Parte” after its viral outbreak on the African continent.

Don’t forget Stonebwoy will be headlining the O2 Academy Islington on the 8th May 2020.

My headmaster made me sign a bond of good behaviour after a trip to UK - Yaw Tog Combining studies with a music career can be a challenge, right from the long hours spent in preparing for a performance and also being present in the classroom for academic work. Rapper Yaw Tog, who recently completed his Senior High School education at the Opoku Ware Senior High School in Kumasi has revealed that he was compelled to sign a bond of good behaviour by his headmaster a month to complete school. The award-winning rapper known for his hit single 'Sore' in October this year completed his West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). Recounting the circumstance that led to the bond signing in an interview with DJ Rueben on Luv FM he said the decision was taken after he left school for a musical performance in the United Kingdom. "When I went to the UK and came back, the Ghana Party in a Park. I went to my headmaster to seek permission, I wrote a letter, did everything. When I came back, I was told to come and sign a bond. "I think my headmaster felt I wasn't coming to school... I am the type you will never see roaming. I am always in class, from there I hang out with my friends and then go home. At the time I signed it, I had a month to complete school...it wasn't a big deal for me. That was what my headmaster was using to pressure me so when I signed it, I was cool. He didn't call me... he was the one always searching for me, asking where Yaw Tog was," he disclosed. "As a Form 3 student, why will I be bothered about roll call?" the young rapper quipped. Yaw Tog who is currently focusing on his music career is promoting the new single 'Sei Mu' which was released right after the completion of High School. Best of 2020: Ghana music

In 2020 I kept following new GH music closely, as usual, and hoping that there would be awesome songs that could go really far. Probably the biggest GH song of the last few years is still ‘Akwaaba’ (2018) by Guiltybeatz. And of course, Shatta Wale feature on ‘Already’ (2019) by Beyoncé was huge as well. Sadly, none of this year’s songs seemed to have that kind of impact. There were some good songs though. The most played GH songs of 2020 at our parties were most likely ‘Putuu’ by Stonebwoy, ‘Say Cheese’ by Kidi, ‘Nominate’ by Stonebwoy and ‘Fa Hooki Me’ by Sarkodie. Personally, some of my favorite artists were Fameye and Gyakie. Fameye released a pretty good album titled ‘Greater Than’ and Gyakie also released an EP titled ‘Seed’. Those two deserve more attention that they got! One of the most interesting moments in GH music was #BringBackAzonto. Or it could have been! It was spring 2020, we had lockdown, nightclubs were closed. Sarkodie released ‘Fa Hooki Me’ and people started talking about bringing back Azonto, and soon some other artists also made a few Azonto-style songs. Initially I was pretty excited about it and hoped that the ‘Azonto revival’ would become real, and that it would bring some new energy to the table. Sadly, it didn’t go far. Maybe the songs were not that good, maybe it was not pushed seriously. Will there be another opportunity for a real Azonto revival in the future? I hope so, because that sound was original. But it needs to be done well. There were a couple of other ‘retro’ moments too. Lord Paper and Bosom P-Yung released a ‘borga highlife’ style song ‘Asabone’ and it seemed to be popular in GH, at least for a moment. The beat was sampled from Daddy Lumba. Then there was also #BehindDaHitz: Instagram 'battles’ between producers like Appietus, Da Hammer and Jay Q. They went through their massive catalogue of tunes, which include some forgotten GH hiplife and GH hip hop classics. DJ Breezy also released a song titled ‘Vintage Flow’ featuring Tinny and others. That song was dope but seemed to go under the radar. 2020 was also the year of ‘Kumerica’ and the rise of GH drill. The good thing about is that they are rapping in their own languages.
