Watching RTGame’s playthrough of Metal Gear Rising Revengeance makes me realise it is so funny how this game exists like how did PlatinumGames make a hack-and-slash in the Metal Gear universe where the final boss is a 6'7 neoliberal anarcho-libertarian American senator from Colorado who fistfights you with nanomachines so he can get elected in 2020 off of war-profiteering political clout in order to end the military industrial complex

Okay but literally the only actual difference between your average republican politician and Senator Armstrong is Armstrong's honesty, his charisma and his will. That and the fact that he actually gets what he deserves in the end.

Light Yagami, writing in the Death Note right before the Metal Gear Rising final boss: 'Senator Steven Armstrong.' Cause of death ... 'disease'. Time and circumstances of death: 'Twenty days from now. At his upcoming political rally, during his speech, he utters the words "as God is my witness" and is immediately struck by lightning, leading to complications in treating a disease he contracted from the crowd. He and his cause turn into a laughingstock due to the apparent divine intervention, especially when he then dies of an unrelated disease.'

Death Note: Hi, this is the Death Note.

Death Note: You're not getting that.

Armstrong: (dies 6 minutes and 40 seconds after Light wrote the initial 'cause of death', when Raiden rips his heart out at the end of the final boss)

Light: ... o ... kay, I guess that counts as a "heart attack" ...

God: (dies of a regular heart attack 40 seconds after Light wrote "as God is my witness" in the notebook)

Mistral’s entire segment is already hilarious and insane on account of it being Mistral (and Metal Gear Rising in general), but it really reaches a new level when you find out this mysterious benefactor and his ideals that she’s referring to is fucking Armstrong. The scene is completely recontextualized knowing she’s borderline swooning over “Don’t fuck with this senator” and I’m just trying to imagine how that even happened. 

Did he go on that big hammy motive rant as he beat her up, and then Mistral was like omg I’m in love with you…r ideals!!! Did he offer a handshake when it was all said and done and she accepted? Come to think of it Armstrong also offered a handshake to Sam after defeating him, and got his employment as a wind of destruction. Is this how Armstrong recruited all of the others, just beating the friendship into them like the Shonen trope? And since it worked multiple times before, it’s why he’s so totally blindsided when Raiden doesn’t play along (because this dude really is convinced he’s the hero who befriends his enemies to save the day, as a foil to Raiden)?
