Stéphane Miroux(Bernal) recently moved to France from Mexico City after his father passes away to be closer to his now widowed mother. He meets his neighbor Stephanie(Gainsbourg) and is instantly smitten. Nothing is coming of his relationship with Stephanie or his new job, so Stéphane retreats to his dream worlds where he creates and controls his content. Suddenly his life begins to become distorted as his dream world and real life are beginning collide and he isn’t able to distinct the two worlds as they begin to bleed into one another without control.
This is a very interesting film. The story isn’t super rock solid but I don’t think it’s supposed to be. 2.8👍🏻 out of 5.
When I was younger this film resonated with me a lot more. Escape to curated dreamlands seemed a lot more fun than seeing the world in front of us. I feel like this film is reminding us of these feelings.
This film is also charming as all get out, but as time passes I begin to wonder if it’s not the over all film, but the energy of Gael Garcia Bernal and Charolette Gainsbourg? They both come off charming and help you completely identify with the situations in front of them in a kiddish way. Bernal also gives you so many emotions and reactions as his face over exaggerated every scene but felt very natural, particularly as his characters personality’s and manias make themselves ever growing and present.
The tone of the movie feels somber. Everything feels like it has a very subtle sepia tint to it the entire movie. Which I think is meant to make you feel like you are in the dreamworlds that he creates.
The production value feels very much of the time and the soundtrack is very cutesy.
Everything’s ends abruptly and leaves things opened and somewhat satisfying.
Overall, this movie feels like it was made for the “Emo” and the indy crowds of the mid/early oughts but with some substance to be a general release.

The Science of Sleep (2006) ⠀⠀ - I love how a lot of the scenes are in stop motion using a lot of diff materials like wool, cellophane, and cardboard rolls. ⠀⠀ - Very vain of me, but I always liked how the female character’s name is Stephanie and male character’s name is Stephane. I deeply relate to both of them but more so Stephane. ⠀⠀ - Charlotte Gainsbourg who plays Stephanie is also a singer who has a beautiful, almost haunting voice. Listen to “L’un part... l’autre reste” to get what I mean. #goldentheponyboy https://www.instagram.com/p/B2gVRlHhfT5/?igshid=u6oq9ga3dclu

La Moderne Mother — Christine Muhlke
Should you happen to run into Christine Muhlke on the street in Manhattan, she’ll likely have a bike helmet in one hand. In the other, a crisp wax paper bag of baked delights, perhaps? Or a brown paper bag, which she’ll extend and offer, “Fresh pluot?” With an inquisitive mind that’s always raised up to eleven the Bon Appétit Editor-at-Large and founder of food consultancy Bureau X knows everyone in the food industry and everything related to fashion and beauty, so what she has curated from both categories comes from a whole lot of research—and maybe a sixth sense?—which she gamely shared. This Mother’s Day, take a page from Muhlke’s lunch pale, and get ready to shop great buys from Aesop to Issey Miyake. Or, when in doubt, give mom the gift that keeps on giving: a La Garçonne gift card.
What is your most worn fashion item?
These days it’s a pair of 80's Yohji Yamamoto pants that I found at Ritual Vintage. They’ve got kind of a poopy-diaper silhouette (I love an awkward trouser…). Now that I’m no longer in an office everyday, I can put outfits on REPEAT. These pants were my base all fall and winter.
What is your most beloved fashion item?
A vintage Plantation by Issey Miyake cocoon jacket. My fairy godmother gave it to me before my junior year in Paris. It’s my winter staple even though it has a few small holes. I only wish that I hadn’t given away the pants senior year…
What is your wish list fashion purchase for summer?
Another pair of Merida pants from Apiece Apart, but this time in painter’s-pants cream. I can’t stop wearing them in blue, so I might as well mix it up.
How would you best describe your fashion look?
Asymmetrical art mom.
How would you best describe your beauty look?
Lo-fi.
Did you get any beauty advice growing up? What was it, and who gave it to you?
Not really. But when I was 22, I was on a shoot with a famous makeup artist, and he told me to always remember to moisturize the neck and décolletage, which I’ve done religiously ever since.
Who do you think is beautiful?
Any woman who thinks for herself and knows what suits her.
Who did you find beautiful when you were growing up?
Grace Kelly, Isabella Rossellini, and Princess Stephanie, in her short hair phase.
What’s the best thing about being a mom?
Spontaneous joy pockets.
What surprised you most about having a son?
The physicality!
How has being a mom affected your beauty routine?
Wait, did I brush my teeth this morning?
How has being a mom affected your fashion routine?
I hope you like this outfit, because I’ll be wearing it for the next two weeks.
Does your son have any sentiments about fashion?
Yes! He really responds to prints and “beautiful dresses,” and often asks me to wear them. (Once I put on a black jumpsuit before going out and he cried.) He also wishes that I wore more jewelry.
Otherwise, he’s pretty agnostic. Recently, his father got him into Greek mythology. One day, he came home and said, “Dad said that Hermes is your favorite god, and that they pronounce it differently in France.”
What is your definition of luxury beauty?
To me, “luxury beauty” is a combination of time and care. Great packaging and fragrance are key, too. This all comes together with the treatments at CAP Beauty, where everything from the sheets to the playlist to the scents of the all-natural products has been considered to the Nth degree.
Do you have a tried and true beauty product you've been loyal to for ages?
Neutrogena Healthy Skin Anti-Wrinkle Cream with SPF 15. It has retinol and SPF 15. I’ve been using it for fifteen-years, and I’m pretty sure it’s why you can’t tell that I’m 97.
What is your:
Shower gel: Aesop Geranium Leaf Body Cleanser and Jo Malone Lime Mandarin Basil Shower Oil.
Body lotion: Belcampo Farm to Face Intensive Moisturizer. It’s made from pig lard and it goes everywhere!
Face cleanser: Linn Purify face wash in the A.M., and Tata Harper Nourishing Oil Cleanser at night.
Face moisturizer: Neutrogena Healthy Skin Anti-Wrinkle Cream in the A.M., and Tata Harper Beautifying Face Oil at night.
Hair product: I am so addicted to Oribe, particularly the Dry Texturizing Spray and Supershine Light Moisturizing Crème. (Full disclosure: I’ve been a copywriter for Oribe for almost a decade now. I’ve even done some product naming).
Makeup: Quick: Bare Minerals concealer, Olio e Osso Sofia Stick on cheeks, NARS mascara.
Fragrance: Jo Malone Amber Lavender cologne in the fall and winter, Jo Malone Lime Mandarin Basil cologne, and Grapefruit cologne in spring and summertime.
Does Max have favorite grooming products?
He uses Weleda Calendula Shampoo and Body Wash—I’m jealous!
Toothpaste?
I would say Tom’s of Maine, but he got me to buy him some Minions Colgate toothpaste…
Does he like fragrance?
He loves it and puts it on with his Dad. He loves all of the citrusy Hermès men’s fragrances.
What beauty task are you not interested in?
It’s all pretty weird when you think about it. Especially shaving.
Which beauty step do you think is bullshit?
I used to think that serums were a crock, but then my friend went to work at Lancôme, and I got hooked.
Any beauty product you're curious to try?
I was dying to try the Jeanette Multiple Tint from the Nars Cosmetics collaboration with Charlotte Gainsbourg in a way that I haven’t experienced in years. I even went into a makeup store! But, in the end, it wasn’t for me. The associate got me to try what looked like lip gloss from that collection (not my bag). Turns out, it’s a sheer stain with a coconut-oil base. Obsessed!
Any beauty product you wish someone would invent?
An all-in-one everything stick or pencil. Or maybe a spray-on face.
Do you consider yourself wellness/health minded?
Yes. I’m one of those healthy-ish types who makes her own kombucha, energy ballz, and kimchi; puts all sorts of powders (tocotrienols, He Shou Wu, Schisandra Berry Moon Juice, and Shop Spa Blog’s Reishi Mushrooms) and magic berries (mulberry, goji) on her oatmeal and in her smoothies; and then goes to Wildair and inhales a buttery fried potato cake, steak tartare with half a loaf of bread, two desserts, and a bottle of wine…then gets up for a 7 A.M. Modo Yoga class.
Do you exercise?
Before having a kid I worked out six days a week and was still heavy because I was starving all the time. Now, I’m able to swim maybe three times a month and make a weekly yoga class—and, weirdly, I’m much more fit. I’ve gotten my son into helping me with the Scientific 7-Minute Workout (try planking with a four-year-old on your back!) once to twice a week. Otherwise, I build in activity wherever I can: biking everywhere, taking the stairs to my sixth-floor apartment, doing wall sits if/when I’m in an elevator (also good with a four-year-old on your knees!) and beginning each morning with pushups and boat pose.
Who do you think has aged beautifully?
Charlotte Rampling, Ruthie Rogers, Linda Rodin.
Christine is wearing the Wool Suit Coat by Lemaire and the Oversized Short Sleeve Shirt by La Garçonne x Save Khaki
Shop Christine’s favorite looks
Styling by Sarah Levett, Photgraphy by Morgan Howland

3. No Topo do Poder (2016) – Dir. Ben Wheatley
4. Ensina-me a Viver (1971) – Dir. Hal Ashby

A journey through day 2 and 3 of Primavera Sound 2018
Julian Vazquez
June 5, 2018
This article has been translated from Spanish, read the original version here.
Year after year Primavera Sound starts the European festival season off strong and their stellar lineups never seem to disappoint fans.
Their lineup is so well crafted, making it worthwhile to discover the artists that have a smaller print on the poster. In order to do this, we have to take a look outside of the 2 main stages and this is how we discovered Cari Cari at the Night Pro Stage on day 2 of the festival. Taking on the same format as the White Stripes, Alexander Köck is on guitar and vocals and Stephanie Widmer on the drums. The band transported us through the linear roads of the American dessert, with their perfect rock n’ roll. It's worth checking out their latest single: Nothing’s Older than Yesterday.
We started the day off with Kim Deal of the Pixies and her band The Breeders. It has been awhile since Kim has stepped on stage but it's evident that we all fell in love with her again after that unforgettable set. It inevitable that through the show The Breeders put on, the energy of the Pixies is still present and was felt through the crowd, even more so, when they played Gigantic.
One of the most anticipated acts of day 2 was most definitely Charlotte Gainsbourg on the Apple Music stage. Her presence on the big screen and on the red carpets has always been more common than an appearance on stage. Charlotte played all of her hits during the first half of her set getting the audience excited and moving. We love you Charlotte, and you don’t need to do that, however, we can assure you that you ratified our love for you on Friday night.
We had to skip over Haim to see Cigarettes After Sex, this is one of the problems festival goers had to face due to the programming of the festival. Dancing until dawn was present at the Mango stage and on the other side was the Ray-Ban stage gifting us a trip in which it is possible to detach from the gravity of the earth and float by an intimate atmosphere of sound.
We started the last day off with a local artist, and it's important to note that at just 21, Núria Graham is a musical force that will for sure be taking her career to an international level in the coming months. If we’re talking about talented youth and unprejudiced talents, it is evident to take an early visit to the Heineken Hidden Stage to see what the Norwich based girl band Let’s Eat Grandma had to offer. There is plenty of talent in these girls and they have the strength to mix with the best of today's music scene. Their second full-length album I’m All Ears will be out on June 29th, be sure to keep an eye out for this one.
All were still eager to continue dancing so Lykke Li was the ideal proposal coming from a slightly more mainstream place, but at the same time still on the same musical line. Lykke played a 1-hour set riddled with hits and sex appeal.
It was about time to give ourselves time for some indie rock, and the answer was on the Ray-Ban Stage, Grizzly Bear. Continuing was Deerhunter, on the same stage a few moments later. Later that night, Arctic Monkeys took the main stage and made their festival debut. They opened up their set with Four Out of Five a track off their new album, Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino. The Monkeys took festival goers on a journey through their entire discography, they played fan favorites, some oldies, and a few from their new record.
What we were really waiting for the entire day was for 2 a.m. to arrive, like it does every night but just that this time around we would get to share it with the founding fathers of dream pop: Beach House. Victoria Legrand's stage presence is an irresistible force, and she’s an enigmatic and charming character. Her glam/disco wardrobe and her eye makeup that could have been mistaken for sunglasses reinforced this presence. Thus, they took us out for a final walk through Primavera with their brand new record 7 also bringing a few of their classics to the spotlight.
Primavera Sound left us with another edition confirming it to be one of the world's best festivals. Today we’ll start like every other year to wait anxiously for the date in which the lineup will be announced for the next edition.
See you next year Primavera!
