Steel sheet piles are considered as one of the most versatile geo-structural elements used for constructions such as high way, marine foundation, and transportation – for both permanently or temporarily. Sheet pile suppliers manufacture two types of productions – that are hot rolled and cold formed. The cold formed sheet piles are manufactured with the coils and steel making process that are already ben melted and rolled. The properties like metallurgy, mechanical and grade are inherent to the coil. On the next step, the coils are shipped to the cold former where everything is unraveled, edged are trimmed or prepped for the coil production.
After being trimmed, the coils go through the cold forming line – especially a line of 12 forming pass or even more sometimes. With every successful pass, the coil is formed or bent to get the right shape to get the right U or Z section. Varieties of ranges are available for cold form sheets including medium to intermediate and those are efficient and wide and strong in character. Since these are produced from a coil with uniform thickness, the flange and webs and other entire sections are uniform.
The sheet pile suppliers produce the hot rolled sheet piles with the same mills of steel. The mills melt the coils and cast them and other steel products. These are produce from the continuous cast beam blanks. The raw stocks run across the reheat furnace under 1600 degrees or more temperature for getting rolled. Then these are sent to the rolling mills to get through the roughing and finishing stands and makes three to four passes for every stand.
Hot rolled sheet piles took almost took 120 years to get the shape and to get the U and the flat sections. Recently with the efficiency of technology it got Z section and it is trending t=right now in global market. This is a strength function to get weight efficiency where the Z sections have deeper and wider sections than U piles.
