Waldameer Trip Report 6/29/24

Part two of day three of the three-day trip across Ohio, Michigan, and western Pennsylvania. This was a Saturday. We left Cedar Point around 2:30-3:00 PM and drove about 2 hours and 45 minutes to Waldameer. We got there around 6:00 PM and stayed until the park closed at 9:00 PM.

Coaster Thoughts and Rankings

1) Ravine Flyer II (x 13 rides)

This is an amazing ride. I have been dying for more Gravity Group, and this did not disappoint in the slightest. It's got a little bit of roughness to it if you're riding on a wheel, especially right after the first drop, but overall, it's not bad. I absolutely love the view of Lake Erie from the lift hill. The first hill over the road after the drop gives great airtime. The drop off the turaround gives some laterals and air at the same time in the back of the train. And the series of three hills that follows is one of the greatest airtime sequences I've ever experienced. The first of those hills, which goes over the road again, gives some of the most sustained, elite floater on any woodie I've done, and the two subsequent hills deliver as well with quicker, less sustained moments of air. The twister section provides some nice variety, as the train continues to haul through it. The ride is excellently paced until the very end, when it does seem to lose a little steam. But anyway, I was so glad the park was so dead, because I was absolutely addicted to this ride and couldn't stop riding it. I hate that we couldn't get any night rides due it being a long summer day, but we did get a few beautiful sunset rides.

2) Steel Dragon (x 2 rides)

I found this ride to be really, unexpectedly fun. It's very smooth, and the spinning is just enough to be sort of thrilling without being nauseating. There are some parts where you can get a nice backwards drop if the spinning is right. There are also a few moments of laterals and some fun twists and turns. I really enjoyed this.

3) Comet (x 1 ride)

This is the PTC equivalent of Zach's Zoomer, with similarly tiny stats, no seat dividers, and a single position bar. It's a family ride, so there's not much air or speed, but it has a fun wood coaster feel.
