Eddie survived the Upside Down. The bats. Vecna. And after the hospital, the town recovery, the shady government agencies clearing his name, after all of that, he has the best year and a half of his life. A lot of it is due to Steve and Robin. Well. The whole group of them, really, but Harrington and Buckley specifically.
Except that, you know, he survived extra-dimensional horrors and now he's going to die anyway, brought down in his prime by his devastating crush on Steve Harrington.
It's a stupid way to meet his end. Even worse than going at the hands of a demented telepathic wizard named after a DnD monster. Though...it's not like he didn't see the crush coming a mile away. Eddie may not have any practical experience in matters of the heart, but he knows he likes a pretty boy and Steve is the prettiest of them all.
There is no dimension where his feelings are requited, so he flirts and he pines, and knows it means nothing when Steve matches him quip for quip, touch for touch. He keeps getting himself in these situations where he thinks--maybe--but Steve is straight, constantly goes out with pretty, bubbly girls.
The pining may kill him, but he's determined to leave this world with a little bit of grace.
Until Steve's Halloween party.
It's a whole thing. All the kids, the rest of their own group of young adults, plus the Hellfire Boys, and the actual adults. It's a weird mix, but Eddie figures that, well. It's a family thing.
Halloween is his favorite holiday, one he plans for all year, but this year he decides to take it easy, electing to do a take on the vampire gang from The Lost Boys. The party is in full swing when they walk in, Wayne quickly spotting Hopper and making his way to the kitchen, but Eddie doesn't see Steve in the chaos of kids and Jonathan and Argyle's dual Frankensteins.
He grabs a beer from Robin who keeps giving him this look all knowing and sparkling and he doesn't understand it, not until he hears delighted laughter and shouts in the main room.
Buckley squeezes past him, and he takes the moment alone to close his eyes, brace for whatever fresh, unwitting, torture Steve has in store for him tonight.
He steps into the living room and time freezes.
Steve's in the shortest shorts Eddie's ever seen, thick, muscular, bitable thighs on full display. He's wearing a pink sweatshirt, neon fingerless gloves that very distantly Eddie recognizes as belonging to El, and gold hoop earrings in both ears.
Eddie has to sit down.
Wham! Isn't his kind of music, and he finds George Michael grating because of it, but--he's seen men dressed like that in magazines he steals from bookstores in Indianapolis, had wondered if George Michael was gay too. And now here Steve is, looking like a fantasy ripped direct from Eddie's brain.
Before he can make an escape, someone turns on the Monster Mash. The two Frankenstein's lurch into the room and start dancing. The rest of them are quick to follow, even Wayne and Hopper, after some light cajoling from Joyce, Max, and El.
It's silly fun, the perfect way for Eddie to forget about Steve and the way his ass looked in those shorts. They dance and goof around, and Thriller comes on, so they all try to do the dance, him and Nancy laughing until their stomachs hurt with their stiff-limbed moves.
The song switches to Material Girl, making El and Max screech, and the next thing he knows, Steve is in front of him, shimmying along. It's the closest they've been all night and now Eddie can see the faint eyeliner smudged along Steve's lash line. Something low and hot tightens in his core.
Steve grabs his shoulders, pulls Eddie closer. "C'mon, Munson, even you have to dance to Madonna!"
He laughs through his breathlessness, can't believe he and Steve are dancing together, not with Steve looking like that, somehow innocent, sexy, and ripe all at once.
Their eyes meet and Steve smiles all slow and dangerous, knotting up Eddie's stomach with a wild kind of anticipation. He doesn't have time to stop himself feeling it, can only give himself over to the shrinking distance between their bodies, the way Steve is warm and muscular against him.
Eddie's not hearing the music anymore, unaware of all their friends dancing close by. He's hypnotized by the dark heat in Steve's hazel eyes, lets himself clutch at Steve's hip, drag their bodies together. He feels Steve's breath escape in a quick burst, and it's a crash of cold water.
He disentangles himself, rushes out the patio doors. The night air is bracing as it chills his heated skin, his burning lungs. He takes a cigarette out of his jacket pocket, lighting it with a shaking hand.
That was too much. He let himself feel too much; want too much. Got swept away by Steve in makeup and earrings and tiny shorts. On the street, he hears children laughing, music thumping from a passing car, tries to get lost in that instead of his embarrassment. It makes him miss the slide of the patio door opening again. Doesn't realize he's not alone until he hears Steve say, "Eddie? You okay?"
He nods, but doesn't turn. "Just needed some air." He lifts the smoldering embers of his cigarette before dropping it and stomping it out.
Steve stands close enough that their shoulders bump. Eddie forces himself not to flinch away. "What are you doing out here? You'll freeze." It's not all a deflection.
"I'm fine," Steve says. "Sweatshirt." He wiggles the sleeve in Eddie's face.
"Yeah, but your legs, man. C'mon." He pulls his jacket off his shoulders. "At least cover them up a little."
Steve gives him an annoyed smile, but takes the jacket, trying to settle the leather around his legs. It's kind of a losing battle, but it makes them both laugh.
"I'm sorry," Steve says. "For back there. I shouldn't have pushed."
"Pushed?" Eddie feels like he missed a couple of stairs on his way down. "You didn't--"
Steve runs a hand through his hair. "Yeah, I did, Eddie. And Robin said," he sighs. "Robin said to just talk to you but I'm shit with words, so."
"So?" He faces Steve now, completely perplexed about where this is going. "I'm the one who pushed too far."
"Of course you didn't." Steve laughs a little. "I wanted to dance with you. I wanted to be close to you."
Eddie takes a step back, nervous smile on his face. "Is this some kind of weird joke?"
"What? No! Why would it be? I'm trying to say that I like you, man."
"Wha--But you're--"
"Don't--don't say popular or a jock or any of that. I'm--you know who I am, Eddie, better than most people."
"I was going to say straight."
Steve stills, blinking. "I told you I was bisexual."
"You did not!" Eddie yelps.
"I did! After went to see The Lost Boys!" He grabs Eddie's leather jacket. "I said I thought Kiefer Sutherland was sexy!"
"I thought you were being hyperbolic!"
"I wore this for you!" Steve wiggles his naked calf in Eddie's face.
"I don't like even like Wham!"
"You stared at a picture of George Michael in this outfit in one of El's Teen Beats for fifteen minutes!"
"I did NOT!" Except now that Steve's said it, Eddie has a pretty good memory of doing that very thing. "Wait. You were trying to seduce me by dressing as George Michael?"
"Like you weren't doing the same with the whole hot vampire biker thing?"
"I didn't expect it to work!"
He doesn't--will never--know who closes the distance first, but they crash together in a clash of mouths and teeth and noses. Steve's hands fist into Eddie's t-shirt, Eddie yanking at Steve's belt loops, until nothing separates them.
The kiss breaks as Steve mouths along his jaw, down his neck, and Eddie's fucking helpless at the turn of events. Never in his wildest fantasies--
"Stay tonight?" Steve asks, voice muffled against Eddie's skin.
"Are you kidding, sweetheart? I'm going to tear these shorts off with my teeth."

🐈‍⬛ Trick or Treat 🐈‍⬛
Little Steddie + Stobin meet cute; Eddie and Robin decide they must take Steve trick-or-treating, and they absolutely must make him their friend (a really special friend in Eddie's case) - fluffy! (5.5 k words)
This was all inspired by this tweet. It was so heartbreaking and upsetting I just had to fix it :)
🎃👻🎃👻🎃👻🎃👻🎃👻🎃👻🎃👻🎃👻🎃
Steve hasn’t celebrated Halloween since he was five. Not properly, anyway. Hasn't dressed up, or gone trick or treating even once since then. And he’s ten now, almost eleven.
He doesn’t want to admit it, but he misses going trick or treating. His mummy used to take him, until she stopped being home as much, and his babysitters could never be bothered.
He used to love dressing up, it was his favorite part. Liked to talk to the other kids in the street and play spooky games. But he’ll probably never do that again.
It’s probably stupid anyway. Steve’s double digits now, and his dad says that makes him a man, and men aren’t supposed to get sad about stupid things like Halloween.
Besides, his mum says candy’s bad for him. It will make his teeth fall out and his tummy fat, and his mum really hates that stuff.
Steve’s grown up knowing to always believe her, but he sees kids at school eating candy all the time, and they still have all their teeth and aren’t fat. Even his teacher eats candy, and offers a bowl of it around every holiday.
But Steve never eats it. His mom will be upset with him if she finds out.
But Steve’s a big boy, he can handle himself now. He’s got a bowl of sweets sitting by the door, eyeing him off and he’s trying his best not to eat one, because it’s for the trick or treaters.
The little kids, the ones his age, the older ones, and even some parents.
Steve pretends he’s not disappointed when they show off their awesome costumes that their moms made for them. He pretends he’s fine, he’s becoming a man, he shouldn’t care about kid things like Halloween.
He gets up when there’s another knock on the door, what feels like the millionth one of the night, and finds three people waiting there all dressed in cool costumes.
There’s a girl with freckles, short brown hair, and she’s done it all messy, dressed up like a scarecrow with a glowing lightbulb on the top of her head. She looks awesome, even has makeup on her face and real pieces of straw sticking out in random places.
There’s a boy beside her, with big brown eyes sweet like the chocolate Steve’s giving out, with long hair like a mane with golden shimmers of tinsel through it. He’s dressed like a lion, a showy badge on his chest, and he roared when Steve opened the door.
Behind them is an adult, probably their dad or something, dressed in grey with silver all over him, a funnel wrapped in foil on his head, a big red heart stitched into his shirt, and he’s holding a lead that’s got a little black cat on the end of it, with bows around its collar.
They’re dressed as The Wizard Of Oz, Steve thinks, and they look awesome. Steve wishes he had friends or family to go trick or treating with. All he’s got is Mrs. Delores, from across the street to look after him tonight, and she’s been asleep on the couch since five o’clock. She’d never take him anyway, says Halloween is for the energised, whatever that means.
“Cool costumes!” Steve says, puts on the brightest smile he can muster, just like his mom taught him. He grabs the candy bowl and holds it out for them to stuff their pillow cases with, “I love Wizard Of Oz— isn’t Toto a dog though?”
“Yeah, but Eddie only has a cat.” The girl answers as the boy digs through the bowl, clearly looking for something specific, “I think she’s crazy enough to be a dog though! Makes the funniest noises ever.”
“Yeah, she’s the funniest.” The lion boy giggles, waggles the Milky Way he found in the air, “She’s crazy too, I found her by the quarry one day, and Wayne said I can keep her.”
Steve thinks the tin man is Wayne, gives the man a smile and offers the candy bowl to him, which he politely declines.
“That’s cool, I’m not allowed pets. Especially strays, mom says they’re filthy.”
“Cthulhu is filthy, but she doesn’t stink more than Eddie!” The girl teases, already eating a caramel treat, chocolate all over her mouth.
Eddie punches her in the arm hard, “I don’t stink! Cthulhu is the best kitty in the world.” He bends down, picking the cat up under the arms and snuggling her, and she hisses and squeaks at him, “Aren’t you Cthulhu? You’re the best kitty cat in the world.”
Cthulhu meows and puts her paw on Eddie’s face, and Steve laughs. He’s always wanted a pet, loves them so much. He Loves all animals.
“Can I pet her?”
Eddie looks up at him from his snuggle with Cthulhu and arches his eyebrow, “Perhaps.”
“Oh, lord.” The man mutters to himself behind them, and it seems like maybe Steve shouldn’t have asked.
“Eddie’s very protective of Cthulhu because she’s a scared cat. She was really sick when we found her! So small you could see her ribs, it was so sad!” The girl informs him, very eager to teach, “She’s just a poor little kitty, and only loves me and Eddie and Wayne and no one else.”
“It’s true, she bites people you know? If they get too close.” Eddie says ominously, holding onto Cthulhu like she’s a precious treasure that Steve is trying to steal, “One time Nash from across the trailer park tried to feed her tuna and she bit a chunk out of his hand! It was so funny, there was blood everywhere. He screamed so loud, the stupid fuck-“
“Language.” The man said, glaring at Eddie.
“Uh, I mean, the stupid wimp.”
“It’s true, did you know?” The girl nodded as she spoke, nodded so much Steve thought her head would fall off, “We hate Nash, he’s so mean.”
“I would maybe let you pet her, if she likes you, which she probably won’t because she doesn’t like anyone except for us.” Eddie said, scratching Cthulhu behind the ear to make her purr, giving her little kisses to make her smile, “But, you must also pass the test.”
“What test?” Steve asked, curious now. He’d really like to pet Cthulhu, if she’d let him.
“First, you have to swear to never, ever be mean to an animal ever.” The girl said.
Then dramatically, Eddie added in, “Second, you have to swear allegiance to Robin and I forever and ever, which also means you swear allegiance to all underdogs by proxy-“
“I don’t know what any of that means.” Steve mutters, ashamed of himself. He’s been doing really bad at school lately, he knows he’s dumb, his dad tells him all the time.
“Ed, remember not everyone reads Tolkien by the time they’re eight.”
“Right.” Eddie nods, smiles up at Steve, “Uh, it means you have to swear to at least be nice to us always, like, friendly! No bullying us or being rude or anything. And also the same goes for every nerd or weird kid.”
“Yeah, you can’t be mean to weird kids ever.”
“Are you weird kids?” Steve asked, looking them over. He doesn’t think they’re weird, he thinks they’re cool, they have the coolest costumes he’s seen all night, they put a lot of effort into them.
“The weirdest ever, actually.” Eddie states, nodding like he’s proud of it.
Robin, the girl, nods in agreement.
“Okay.” Steve shrugs, “I don’t care if people are weird, you have cool costumes.”
“That’s really nice, thanks!” Robin says, but Eddie gives him a funny look.
“Where’s your costume? And why aren’t you trick or treating? Are you sick or something?”
“Uhm, I just don’t want to.” Steve lies, he feels stupid because he wants to cry.
“Oh, okay, weird.” Eddie says and stands again, keeps Cthulhu in his arms and Robin leans over to pet her too, “The third rule is that you have to give us an extra candy bar-“
“That’s not one of the rules?” Robin intervenes, clearly confused by this, which Steve finds funny.
“Shh!” Eddie hisses, “Come on, it’s Halloween, it’s a special extra holiday rule.”
“I don’t think that’s fair.”
“It’s just one extra candy bar. Besides, would you prefer stupid Jason come by and steal an extra one like he did at the last house?”
“No.” Robin admits and turns to Steve, “Okay, yeah, an extra candy bar.”
“And also, the last rule is-“
“You have to stand on one foot and hop on the spot and sing Soft Kitty!”
“Hey, I wanted to say that part.” Eddie groans at her.
“You always say that part.” Robin bickers back, and Eddie starts to sulk.
Steve wishes he had friends like that.
“Do you agree with the rules?” Robin asks, and Steve nods.
“Sure.” He says.
“Okay, fine.” Eddie said, snapping out of his hunch to grin at Steve again, “But don’t be offended if she doesn’t like you. She hates everyone. She was even scared of us for the first few days!”
“Yeah, it’s true.” Robin agrees, watching Eddie set Cthulhu down, taking the leash from the older man, “She’s such a poor little kitty. Eddie, show him the scars you have! I can’t or it will stuff up my costume.”
“Oh, yeah!” Eddie grins, shoving the sleeves up his arms to reveal an array of tiny bites and scratches, “Gnarly, huh?”
“I thought he had rabies! I was so scared, but it’s okay, we all got a rabies shot.”
“Yeah, I almost passed out, I hate needles.”
“It was really funny, the nurses had to give him three lollipops to stop him crying-“
“Hey! Don’t tell him that, he won’t think I’m cool.” Eddie punches her again. Robin punches him back.
“He probably already thinks you’re not cool, Eddie. Everyone thinks you’re not cool, and he’s rich.”
“Oh, yeah.” Eddie mutters, shrugs like he no longer cares, loosens Cthulhu’s lead a little, “Anyway, just don’t take it personally if she tries to kill you or anything, she especially doesn’t like mean people or rich people. She only likes freaks and weirdos I think, ‘cause we’re like her, you know? She’s a good cat like that. So yeah, just don’t like, get upset if she hates—“
They all stop and stare when Cthulhu wanders over the threshold to Steve’s house, looking up at him with her tail in the air as she goes. She walks right up to Steve, rubs her face against his shin and weaves between his legs, stretching out and laying on his fluffy slipperd feet.
Behind them, the older man snickers, and Eddie glares back at him.
He takes a few steps away to catch his breath as he laughs, muttering as he goes, “Spoke too soon, boy, what’d I tell ya?”
Eddie growls and looks back at Cthulhu like she’s betrayed him. Robin is just smiling, which is nice, she has a very happy smile.
“I think she likes him, Eddie.” Robin says, and Eddie growls again.
“So, can I pet her?” Steve asks.
“You have to do the ritual.” Eddie says with sass, like it’s a challenge, like Steve won’t do it, “Swear kindness to all animals.”
“Obviously, I love animals.” Steve said with a frown.
“That one’s easy, you’d be a total psycho if you didn’t!”
“Okay, swear you’ll never be mean to an outcast or a weirdo.” Robin said.
“Okay— but what about if a weirdo is mean to me first? Can I be mean back?” He asked, because the rules seemed a little biassed.
“Eh, makes sense.” Robin nodded, “What do you think, Eddie?”
“I agree. Not like a weirdo would ever be mean to a rich kid.” He said, shrugging.
Steve arched his eyebrow at the boy, put his hands on his hips unimpressed, “I swear it, idiot.”
“Hey, you can’t—“
“You said I can, if you’re mean first.”
“I’m not— Wayne! Stop laughing at me!” Eddie huffed back at the man, facing Steve again, he said, “I’m not mean to you.”
“You are. You said Cthulhu would probably hate me cause I’m rich. I’m not even rich, I just live here.”
Beside him, Robin nodded, “You are kinda mean sometimes, Eddie.”
Eddie looked like a fish out of water. The old man was still laughing, hunched over from it now.
“We can call it even, if you’re nice to me from now on.” Steve states, holding out his hand in an offer.
Eddie looks at his hand and considers it, looks back at Steve and sighs, “I’m sorry, okay, you're right. We can call it even.”
Steve smiles and solidifies the shake, wondering why his stomach goes all fluttery.
“Three!” Robin interrupts, literally leaning over to get between them, “Extra candy bar.”
Steve smiles and lets them both have at it again, holding it steady as they aggressively rifle through the bowl in hunt of their desired treasure. Robin eats half of hers again when she gets it, drops the other half in her pillow case.
“And the dance!” Eddie chimes in, carefully placing his sweet in the sack, “For a whole minute.”
“How am I supposed to hop on one foot when Cthulhu is laying on my slippers?”
“Uh, that’s a good point, Eddie. You know Cthulhu hates being disturbed.” Robin whispers, like she’s scared she’ll suddenly wake the sleeping kitty.
Eddie pouts, looking down at the animal to come up with an answer. It takes him a while. Steve comes up with one first.
He grabs the bowl of sweets again and dumps half in Robin's sack, and the other half in Eddie’s. A trade, extra candy so he doesn’t have to do the dance.
“Awesome!” Robin grins, beaming down at her loot.
“What about your leftovers?” Eddie asks, looking sadly at the big empty bowl, “You won’t have any leftovers! And you’re not trick or treating, so how would you get chocolate?”
“It’s okay, mom doesn’t really like when I eat chocolate. Says it will make my teeth fall out—“
“Ah! Is that true?” Robin asks, her mouth full of melted chocolate again. She looks back at the man in fear, “Wayne! Are my teeth gonna fall out?”
“No.” He says, stern and sharp, “My mama used to tell me the same thing. You’re supposed to have treats, you’re a kid.”
Oh, Steve thinks to himself, he’s a kid.
“Oh, thank goodness.” Robin huffs and keeps munching away.
“Here.” Eddie smiles, and he’s got a handful of candy bars taken from his pillow case, holding them out to Steve, “You deserve some chocolate too!”
Steve blushes and takes the sweets, can’t find the Strength to protest when he really, really wants it. He stashes them in his pockets and tells himself not to forget about them.
“Do you want some more?” Eddie asks, “I know how it feels to have no candy on Halloween, it sucks. I never got to trick-or-treat when I was little, my dad couldn’t be bothered and my mama was always sick.”
Steve frowns, looks at the boy and doesn’t even get another word in before Eddie’s reaching over and stuffing another handful of chocolate into Steve’s other pocket. He gives it a firm pat, stands up straight again, and smiles.
Steve doesn’t know what to do.
He thinks he’d like to be friends with these kids.
“Can I pet your cat now?” He asks, too scared to say anything else. His dad says he’s too much of a wimp these days, and needs to man up.
“Of course.” Eddie smiles, nods his head.
Steve crouches down, careful not to move his feet and disturb the kitty, and he strokes from her head down her back until she purrs. She purrs so much her whole body starts to vibrate, it makes the three of them laugh.
“She’s so cute, huh?” Robin asks, crouched down too to watch.
“She’s the best kitty cat ever.” Eddie agrees, reaching to scratch under her chin with a finger, and Cthulhu smiles and tries to bite his finger, “No silly! I’m not a Halloween candy.”
“She’s so soft.” Steve muses, can’t stop petting her, “She’s so cute.”
“Super cute.”
“The cutest!” Robin shouts, slaps a hand over her mouth when she realises how loud she was.
“I wish I had a cat.” Steve sighs.
“You can visit her sometimes, if you like?” Eddie asks, his cheeks all red for some reason, “Wayne doesn’t mind if I have friends at the trailer, and it would be mean to keep Cthulhu from her new best friend.”
“You mean it?” Steve asks, feels himself smiling so wide his cheeks get warm, “For real?”
“Yeah.” Eddie nods, gets very nervous when he says, “And… and maybe we could play, or something?”
Steve nods his head, he hasn’t had a friend to play with since Tommy decided they were too cool for make believe, “Yes please.”
“You probably won’t want to if you’re cool and not a weirdo.” Robin says, doesn’t even look up as she speaks, too busy petting Cthulhu, “Eddie likes weird games, he always makes me be the dragon he has to fight and slay.”
“I thought you liked being the dragon? You make such good dragon noises.”
“Of course I do.” Robin huffs, looking over at him, “But he might not like being a dragon.”
“Well he wouldn’t be the dragon, ‘cause you’re always the dragon.”
“We’ll, maybe he won’t want to be the knight either!”
“I’m always the knight.” Eddie huffed and turned to Steve, wearing a very determined glare, “What do you want to be when we play fantasy? You could be the horse, but that’s probably boring. Or I suppose you could be the princess I rescue, because Cthulhu is always the princess. You can’t be the evil troll because Wayne’s really good at being grumpy. Or you can be something new if you like?”
“I can be anything.” Steve shrugged, “I’ve never played fantasy before. It sounds fun.”
“It’s so fun!” Robin grinned, “Maybe you could be the prince and Eddie can rescue you too!”
“I’m really good at rescuing.” Eddie stated.
“Okay.” Steve smiled, “Whatever you guys want.” He says, because he’s excited enough they want him there at all, he would play the tree if they wanted.
“Cool.” Eddie grinned, totally delighted by this.
“Thanks for letting me pet your cat.” Steve said, knowing he shouldn’t keep them any longer. They have more trick-or-treating to get too, and the man taking them is probably bored. “I think your costumes are really cool and creative.”
“Thanks, we made them ourselves, Eddie’s really good at sewing and painting!” Robin grinned.
“Well, Wayne had to help with the sewing machine. And Robin did all the decorations.”
“That’s so cool.” Steve grinned, the words toppling out of his mouth before he could stop himself, “I wish I knew how to make costumes, my mom never makes me costumes, I miss trick-or-treating.”
“I thought you said you didn’t feel like it?” Robin asked, and Steve stared at her, caught red.
“Why doesn’t your mom make your costumes?” Eddie asked, looking so terribly sad about it, “Why don’t you go trick-or-treating? Is your mummy sick too?”
Embarrassed, Steve shook his head, eyes averted to the ground as he shamefully admitted, “My parents don’t really care about this stuff, they say it’s for kids, and it’s silly. They’re never home anyway.”
“But you are a kid.” Robin says, confused.
Steve feels that harshly for the second time tonight.
“I think your parents are stupid.” Eddie says flatly, and Steve thinks he’s awesome.
“Eddie!” The older man snaps from behind, “That’s not very nice now, come on.”
“But it’s true.” Eddie huffs, “Your parents sound like they suck. My dad sucked too. He’s in prison, you know, cause he sucks.”
“Eddie really doesn’t like his dad.” Robin said, still crouched down to pet Cthulhu, not looking up at them as she spoke.
Quietly, for the first time ever, Steve admitted something back, “I don’t like my dad either.”
Eddie smiled at him, held up his hand in this strange symbol, his pinky and pointer finger extended whilst the others were folded.
“What’s that?”
“Metal.” Eddie said, a cool smile as he nodded. And Steve had no idea what metal means, but he makes the symbol back and smiles, because Eddie seems to think it’s cool, so it must be.
“Cool.”
“Do you want to come trick or treating with us?” He asks, and Steve thinks yes, but holds himself back.
“Oh, yeah, please come!” Robin grins, up and jumping on the spot now.
“We don’t even have a Dorothy.” Eddie says, “We don’t even have the main character!”
“I told you to be Dorothy.” Robin tells him, “You have the perfect hair for it.”
“Yeah, but I wanted to wear my lion costume again. It saved more time! We had to spend all our time making your costume!”
Robin shrugged and looked back at Steve, “Do you wanna be Dorothy?”
“Isn’t she a girl?”
“So.” Eddie shrugged, “I think Toto’s a boy, and Cthulhu is pretending to be him— and Robins being a boy scarecrow. It’s just a costume.”
“But she wears a dress. I don’t have a dress.”
“You can be a boy Dorothy if you like?” Robin answers.
“Or, you can be a girl Dorothy in pants.” Eddie adds on, “And I’m really good at making costumes, I bet I can help you come up with something cool. And then you can walk Cthulhu all night if you like, ‘cause Toto is Dorothy’s pet!”
Steve does like the sound of going trick-or-treating with these guys. And he really likes the sound of hanging out with Cthulhu all night, she’s such a cute kitty, still sleeping on his slippers.
Steve worries his lip and looks at the old man past them, wondering if he’ll tell Steve to stay home for wanting to dress up like a girl.
“You’re welcome to join if you want, kid, I’ll just need to talk to whoever’s lookin’ after ya.”
Steve is sort of scared to wake Mrs. Deloris, she’s a real hag when she’s grumpy.
But, he’d like to go trick-or-treating even more. And this might be his only ever chance.
”I’d really like to.” Steve says, and the three of them seem happy with his answer.
Eddie dives down and grabs Cthulhu so Steve can move, which is a big mistake because she starts hissing and trying to scratch Eddie’s face, and he screams, the old man and Robin have to intervene.
Steve rushes over to Mrs. Delores to wake her with a fright, and he tells her his plans, doesn’t ask, and she gets up in a grump to go talk to the man at the door.
When Steve makes it back to them, Eddie’s got a bloody scratch on his cheek, but he doesn’t seem to mind it, he’s still holding Cthulhu as she naps in his arms, and he kisses her between the ears adoringly.
“I wouldn’t know how to make a Dorothy costume.” Steve says, and this seems to excite Eddie and Robin.
“Can we come in? We’ll help!” Eddie asks.
“And your house is so big.” Robin wonders, leaning forward to inspect the inside, “I’ve never been in a house this big before.”
“Me either.” Eddie muses, “Do you have a hot tub?”
Steve leads them inside, and up the stairs, “No, but I have a pool.”
“Cool!” Eddie grins.
“Do you have a cinema?”
“No.” Steve giggles, “Of course not.”
“Do you have two bathrooms?” Eddie asks.
Steve furrows his brow at the weird question, “Uh, yeah— or three if you count the extra toilet.”
“Woah!” The two say in unison, their eyes wandering around Steve’s house as they walk.
“That’s so cool.” Eddie says.
“I’ve always wanted two bathrooms. My dad gets pee all over the toilet seat, and me and mom hate it.” Robin adds, and Steve decides to laugh, because Eddie is.
He thought everyone had two bathrooms. He’s never shared one with his parents. That seems so strange. He’s not even allowed in his parents bathroom, they get so mad at him if he goes in there.
He leads the pair into his bedroom and they go right for his wardrobe, diving right in without asking. Not that Steve cares, he thinks they’re so nice, and he’s excited to have more friends.
They’re talking amongst themselves, chattering and chattering, agreeing and disagreeing.
“Would you wear a skirt?” Eddie turns around to ask.
“I don’t have a skirt.” Steve says back.
“That’s not what I asked.”
“I guess.” Steve shrugged, “But it’s too cold for a skirt! It’s windy outside.”
“He’s got a point.” Robin says, and Eddie nods.
“Will your dad be mad if we cut up one of his shirts?”
Steve’s eyes widened, he think his dad would definitely mind. But, he’s not home, won’t be for another week at least. Besides, he might not even notice, if Steve hides the evidence.
He shakes his head no.
“Does he have a blue button up?”
Steve nods, knows he does. He has like, a billion of them.
He races to go get one, finding one that’s got little blue and white checkers all over it, thinking it would be perfect for Dorothy. When he shows it to Eddie, he’s excited, says it’s perfect.
Robin hands Steve a white t-shirt and a pair of blue jeans and tells him to change into them whilst they work on the dress. Steve rushes to change in the bathroom, can’t wait, he’s so excited.
By the time he comes back out, the sleeves of his dads shirt have been cut off, and the collar removed to make straps instead, and Eddie’s making Steve put it on, and it’s long, like a dress. He’s cut one of the sleeves to make a belt, ties it around Steve’s waist with a bow, and Robin ties the other on his head.
He’s still got his slippers on, which they decide are perfect, because they’re fuzzy red Elmo slippers, just like Dorothy’s shoes. Steve hasn’t felt this cool in a long time, he likes how creative Eddie and Robin are.
He half expects to be told off when they get back down, yapping away to Cthulhu about the next houses they’re gonna hit, but the old man doesn’t mind that Steve’s in a dress.
In fact, he compliments him, “Cool costume, looks just like the movie, kid.” He says, waves them all out the door, “Come on, it’s getting late and I have to have you home by ten.”
“Quick!” Eddie says, putting Cthulhu down and letting Steve take her lead, “We’ve got so many more houses to get to.”
“Wait! Dorothy doesn’t- wait, what’s your name?” Robin asks, and Steve feels silly for not having introduced himself.
“Oh, it’s Steve.” He says, walking down the steps, Cthulhu right beside him.
“That’s cool, I’m Robin, and he’s Eddie.” Robin said, “We’re best friends, we take art class together.”
“Wow, you do art?” Steve asks, “I like colouring.”
“Colouring is cool.” Eddie smiled, five steps ahead of everyone else, “I like drawing best. I draw monsters mostly.”
“They’re so creepy.” Robin giggles, “It’s for his nerd game he likes. Watch out, he’ll probably make you try and play it. It’s so confusing.”
“It’s not confusing. It’s just roleplay! It’s called Dungeons and Dragons, and it’s the coolest game in the world.”
“Sounds fun.” Steve says, even though the dungeon part worries him.
“What were you gonna say before, Robin?” Eddie asked, “You seemed so worried.”
“Oh, uhm, I can’t- Steve doesn’t have a pillowcase!” She gasped, turning to Steve.
“Oh no.” He said, looking back at his house, already a block away now.
“It’s okay!” Eddie said, running back to them, “Steve can share mine, we’ll split all my candy down the middle since you missed so much. Come on, that house always has the best stuff.” He says, grabbing Steve by the wrist and pulling him along to run.
Steve lets him, giggling as the three of them run through the street up to the house. His skin tingles where Eddie holds it, which is strange, but he doesn’t mind. It’s sort of nice. Eddie is really nice.
“Come on.” He says, shoving Steve to the grand front door of the house they’re at, “You should do the honours, Steve, since you haven’t in ages! Come on, come on!”
Nervously, Steve lifts his hand and rings the doorbell. And when the woman answers the door, he grins, and shouts, “Trick-or-treat!” Louder than he should have.
The three get their fill of candy and head away to the next house, playing with Cthulhu as they go, comparing which chocolates are their favourites.
Eddie says his favourites are milky ways, Steve says they’re his favourites too, and Eddie’s cheeks go red again at the fact.
They manage to hit fifteen more houses before Steve has to go home, and Eddie’s pillow case is so full they decide to carry it together, so it’s not too heavy.
They sit on the floor by the open door to divvy it out, Robin sits beside them eating more of her candy. Mrs. Delores comes out to flirt with Wayne, who Steve learned is Eddie’s uncle that he lives with, and apparently a lot of old ladies flirt with him.
They split the chocolates clean down the middle, having an even amount in the bag. And Steve’s excited, because he’s got five milky ways, can’t wait to eat them. Eddie’s got six, at Steve’s insistence as payment for making his costume.
At the last minute, when they’re scooping their treats back into Eddie’s pillow case and the candy bowl by Steve’s door, he remembers the pocketed treats from before, and races away to get them. He quickly divvys them between him and Eddie, gives the extra one to Wayne as a thank you, and says goodbye to his new friends. Especially Cthulhu.
“Remember you have to come visit.” Eddie says sternly, watching Steve snuggle the cat, “Cthulhu will get depressed without you.”
“Promise.” Steve nods.
“Maybe you can come on Saturday! And maybe Tuesdays after five o'clock! And also Wednesdays after school, and Fridays too—“
“That’s when Robin comes over to my house. We hang out a lot.”
“We’re best friends.” Robin nods.
“That sounds like a good idea. Maybe I can come after school on Wednesday.”
“Okay!” They both shout in unison.
“Bye, Steve!” Robin shouts, beginning to hop down the steps, “See you around.”
“Come here, kitty kitty.” Eddie says, tries to grab Cthulhu but she doesn’t let him. Hisses at Eddie and snuggles against Steve. Eddie looks very betrayed again, “Cthulhu! I said come here.”
She just meowed.
Steve laughed, handed her back over to Eddie with a little fight and apologised, “Sorry, Cthulhu. We’ll have to cuddle another time.”
“She really loves group cuddles, you know.” Eddie blurts out, looks embarrassed again, “Just so you know.”
Steve smiles, thinking he might like a group cuddle with them some time, “Okay.” He’s got butterflies again.
“Okay.”
Eddie’s so nice.
“I’m gonna go now.” He mutters, “But you can come play whenever— not just when Robin’s there, okay?”
“Okay.” Steve smiled again. It’s all he can do, really.
“Nice to meet you, Steve.”
“Nice to meet you too, Eddie.”
Eddie blushes and ducks his head, waving as he turns away, “I think you look nice, by the way, in your costume. Blue looks really nice on you.”
Steve blushes too, “Thanks, Eddie.”
He doesn’t say anything else, just bounces away, catching up to his uncle who’s holding Robin's hand as they walk. Steve watches them walk away, stands silently at the door with a fuzzy feeling in his stomach.
Wayne scruffs Eddie’s head as they walk away, “Steve seems nice.” He says, sounds like he’s teasing.
Eddie hunches his shoulders up, glances back at Steve and looks away again immediately, grits out, “Shut up.”
“What’s going on?” Robin asks, leaning into Eddie’s space.
“Nothing!—“
“Eddie thinks Steve’s nice.”
Eddie groans, and Steve doesn’t understand why that’s such a big deal. Steve is nice, isn’t he?
Isn’t he?
“Ohh!” Robin muses, skips a few steps ahead and starts singing as the reach the street, “Eddie and Steve, sitting in the tree—“
“Shhh! He’s gonna hear you.”
“K. I. S. S. I. N. G—“
“I’m gonna kill you!” Eddie groaned, running straight for her.
Robin erupted in giggles, running away down the street, into the night.
Steve closes the door and looks down at his bowl of candy, can’t help himself, just wants one before bed. He goes to grab a Milky Way, and something catches his attention.
He’s supposed to have five. But there are— one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven in the bowl.
Eddie snuck Steve all of his, even though they’re his favourites.
Steve can’t wait to hang out with his new friends Robin and Eddie.
Especially Eddie.
Steve doesn’t think he’s gonna have a lonely Halloween ever again.

Steve Harrington struggles with guilt and isolation months after Eddie's death.
Backstory his dad was tired of Steve being in his room all day and mentions that his brother was hiring people for the power plant and he got him an interview. Steve told him he didn’t want it but his father says it was this or he’s out of the house. The next day as he gets the job he sees Wayne Munson walk by him. His guilt intensifies and he was going to say how sorry he was but he couldn’t mange a word out. That night he would have nightmares of Eddie digging him self out of his grave and biting him he woke up in a cold sweat it felt so real and as he worked at the plant his night mares continued it would be Eddie then it would be billy as well they were blaming him and attacking him. He was slowly going crazy he couldn’t even pay attention at work. Wayne would quit his job and wouldn’t see him anymore but that didn’t make it any better. He was really starting to lose it he began to start reading about bioelectricity and this went on for a year he was consumed by this idea that he could bring them back and one night he had that chance as he went to the grave yard and dig them up and enter the power plant using the keys he stolen from his uncle. He starts to try to bring them back and the power shut down he’s freaking out and it seems it didn’t work and he panics leaving them there. That night he goes to his room and sleeps but he wakes up to a noise in his bed room it’s pitch dark he can’t see a thing. He tries to put the light on but the electricity isn’t working. “Steve” he hears a whisper. It sounded like Eddie but he didn’t believe it was real the next thing he hears “it hurts.” From another voice. He’s freaking out then feels someone on his bed.
Side note I was thinking like billy and Eddie were kind of like zombies and he has to keep them out of trouble. They probably wouldn’t have there memories at first. And Steve would take care of them and they would end up falling in love.
Also not writing this I just thought it was fun idea for Halloween.

Steddie Halloween costume idea
Hanging out with the Party and working at the Video store, Steve has seen Legend. He has dressed up as a Tom Cruise character before. He decides to dress up as Jack.
Eddie finds out.
At 1st he wants to be The Darkness but it's too much of a costume to pull off. 'WTF' he thinks to himself and cuts up some dresses from second hand stores to make Lili's dark dress.
They are both blushing hard over the other on Halloween.
Gods I want an illustration.

Modern AU Steddie Halloween
Every year a member of the Fruity Four chooses a group Halloween costume but what they end up dressing up as is always a mystery until Halloween Day. The first year this tradition started Robin picked the group costume. And she made the whole group dress up as Mario characters Steve was Peach and Eddie was Mario. And boy was that an amusing Halloween for Eddie.
The only reason why it’s a mystery is because when the tradition first began. Since Robin was the first person to choose the group costume and in true Robin fashion she procrastinated deciding the group’s costumes and just ended up winging it at the last minute. And when everyone asked about the costumes she just told everybody “it’s a surprise” or “you’ll find out later.” But that’s a secret that Robin would take to her grave.
This Halloween Nancy and Robin have decided to go to a different party. So they won’t be participating in the tradition this year. As a result the Fruity Four have decided to do two duo costumes instead of the usual group costume. And since it was Nancy’s turn to choose the costume this year. Steve and Eddie decided to figure out who chooses the costumes in the most adult way possible. By of course playing rock, paper, scissors to find out who will choose the costumes this year.
“Ok, do you go on scissors or shoot?” Steve asked inquisitively.
“I go on scissors,” Eddie replies.
“Who the fuck goes on scissors?” Steve asks while scrunching his face and glaring at Eddie.
“Whatever man, why even ask, let’s go on shoot then.”
“Alright rock, paper, scissors shoot,” Steve says.
Steve plays rock and Eddie chooses paper. Eddie wins.
“Two out of three,” Steve insists.
Eddie chooses paper and Steve chooses rock. Eddie covers Steve’s fist with his hand.
“Four out of six?” Steve asks
“Don’t be a sore loser Stevie,” Eddie teases while lightly shoving Steve, “besides you know I’m going to pick amazing costumes for the both of us.”
“Yeah, okay, Munson, just don’t pick anything too weird.”
“Oh Harrington, have you even met me? ‘Weird’ is my middle name.”
“Okay Munson,” Steve says curiously.
So since Eddie won he gets to pick the costume this year and boy is he stoked. He’s been pondering on what he’d make everyone dress up as since the tradition began. But since Nancy and Robin are canceling he’s going to have to change up his plans. He didn’t want to make the costumes too weird or nerdy because then nobody would know what they were dressed as. But he also didn’t want to make it too basic because it would be mortifying to see someone else dressed in the same costume at the party. So he decides to go for a DC Comics duo costume. Sue him, he's not that creative and he’s low on time. Although he has taken the creative liberty to at least modify the costumes so if someone does dress the same as them their costumes will be a little more innovative to say the least.
Halloween Night
“Oh my gosh, Eddie!”
“Yeah, Stevie?” It takes him a second but he finally registers why he’s calling when Steve steps out of the room, “Do you like your costume?”
Steve comes out of Eddie’s room dressed in a white and red crop top and some of his chest hair is showing. He’s wearing half blue and half red short shorts with fishnet tights underneath them. He has a half red and half blue jean jacket to match which is currently wrapped around his waist. Eddie dyed the jacket and put various patches on it. And for the costume Eddie let him borrow his black boots he also bought a spiked collar for Steve. And man did Steve look drop dead gorgeous, stunning, he looked delectable when he left the room.
“What do you think?” Steve asks and his question comes out dripping with insecurity and that makes Eddie’s heart break a little. Eddie has to pick his jaw off of the floor to even reply to Steve. “You look absolutely breathtaking” Steve began to blush profusely. “You look incredible as well” then they both paused to admire one another’s costumes “We… sh-should get to the party yeah, Mr. J Steve says in his best Harley impression. “Yeah we should get going, Harls.”

It's everything I hoped it would be 🥹
bonding time
For @steddie-spooktober prompt "can you please stop trying to scare them?" | 1427 | T | getting together, fluff, post-canon | brainstormed with @blasvemous
Tumblr media
"Steve."
Steve doesn't react. He's standing by the dirtiest window Eddie's ever seen, peeking from behind a curtain to see the groups entering the house.
"Steve!" Eddie hisses insistently.
"What?!" Steve snaps back.
Eddie widens his eyes at him.
"We should get into positions," he reminds his friend as if they haven't been doing this for over a week now.
"Mhm," Steve nods absentmindedly, eyes back on the outside. "You do that."
"Are you waiting for Henderson again?"
"Maybe."
Eddie groans, stepping back towards him. They have about ten minutes before the next group walks in, even more before they get to this part of the haunted house.
"Could you please stop trying to scare him? This house is the same every year, and this kid fought Demogorgons, why do you care about stupid fair attraction?" he presses, crossing his arms.
"It's kind of my duty as an older brother," Steve points out, sparing him a short glance. "Besides, his attitude has been insufferable lately. Gotta teach him a lesson."
That, Eddie could agree with. Henderson has been a little shit about their current gig, talking all cocky about how it was 'entertainment for little kids' and they wouldn't have to do much. Eddie took scaring kids very seriously, thank you very much.
He was also grateful for the scheme Steve and Robin had pulled to get him the job. It was a small thing, but enough to start getting on the good side with the residents of Hawkins. And also a good way to spend time with Steve, his new and unlikely friend. Eddie reminds him of that, too.
"We were supposed to be bonding," he pouts.
"We'll be bonding after I make Dustin pee his pants," Steve responds shortly, making Eddie scoff. But seeing how unwavering Steve is in his plan, he sighs and steps right into his personal space.
"Promise?" he asks, jabbing a finger into his ribs.
Steve jolts, but it has the desired effect of getting his attention back on Eddie. He grabs his hand to push it safely away from his body, his eyes finally focusing on his friend and softening.
"Yeah, man, I promise."
"Great. Because I actually like it here, which I didn't think I'd say about a legal job." Steve snorts softly. "I guess it's fun to work with a friend."
"Yeah," Steve finally smiles fully. "It is."
"And I know you'd rather be doing it with Buckley, but—"
Steve cuts him off with a shake of his head.
"Don't be stupid dude, even the bestest of friends need some time apart. And it's a blast working with you. The way you made that dude cry yesterday? Fucking priceless." He grins.
Eddie grins back.
"Yeah, love how he grabbed onto his wife."
They burst into snickers until a girl rushes past them, reminding them to get into positions. Eddie salutes, and parts with his dear friend.
"Please think about me fondly. I will miss you dearly," he sighs deeply, caressing Steve's bicep.
Steve plays along, reciprocating his longing gaze.
"I am missing you already, darling," he says, pressing a phantom of a kiss onto his hand.
Eddie snickers and skitters away towards his post. For the sake of the job and his sanity.
Tumblr media
Eddie's determined to keep Steve's attention on himself instead of people-watching. Maybe constantly bothering him isn't the best course of action but stick to what you know, right?
"You're putting a damper on my fun, Harrington," he says behind Steve's shoulder as he's eyeing the outside.
"I know. I'm sorry." And he sounds genuinely regretful. Like his resolve is slowly falling apart, the point of childish games with his brother slowly getting forgotten.
"You know, you would scare him if you'd just put effort into all of the groups . Keep it at one hundred and you won't miss."
"Yeah, but that's tiring," Steve whines.
Eddie rolls his eyes.
"Oh my god, you're such a princess," he mutters.
"I'm not." Steve frowns, offended.
"Yes, you are."
Steve already knows there is no point in arguing with Eddie, so he only glares his way. It's not a huge win, but at least he's not looking out the window. Eddie pushes toward victory.
"And you could be having fun, too, if you weren't so focused on Henderson. I, for one, take pride and joy in my craft of making kids pee their pants," he says with reverence, hand pressed to his chest.
Steve raises his eyebrows.
"Yeah, and how many times have you managed that?"
"Zero, but I'm still enjoying myself! And I made one girl faint!"
Steve snorts.
"Yeah, you'd be proud of that."
"Well, not all of us can do that without the help of a horror setting." Eddie rolls his eyes. "Which, you could be using to your advantage too," he points out, capturing Steve's attention enough to maneuver him away from the window. "You scare a girl, then you take her to a quiet corner to calm her down, a perfect crime!" he throws his arms up but upon seeing Steve's frown, he backtracks.
"Well, not a crime, of course, but a little, uh, harmless mischief," he amends with an innocent smile.
Steve's shoulders sag as he sighs.
"Yeah, that was kind of my whole point of doing this. But it's harder than I thought," he says with a wince.
"Since when?" Eddie frowns in confusion. "I mean, yeah, your game has been off, but you always went for it anyway. Which, I respect as fuck by the way. I could never." He lets out a small, humorless laugh.
The room falls silent and when he looks up again, Steve is looking straight at him.
"You should try."
"Yeah, probably," he shrugs, but Steve remains unfazed.
"I'm serious. Go for it."
They engage in some serious staring competition that makes Eddie squirm, his whole skin itching.
"Dude, what are you—"
"Have we not been flirting this whole time?"
Eddie blinks.
"Uh."
"I wanted this job so we could be alone for once."
"Uh."
"And I'm sorry for getting distracted with the Dustin thing, but I'm back on track now." Finally, his confidence wavers. "That is, if we're on the same one, you know. I might have completely misread the situation."
Eddie shakes his head.
"No, no. I was, uh, same track, page, yeah," he pulls a strand of hair over his reddening cheeks, but none of them moves.
"Sooo, are you going to, or am I supposed to—"
"Oh, what the Hell," Eddie mutters, grabbing onto Steve's shirt to pull him forward. He places a lightly off-center kiss on his lips and can feel the body under his palms sagging with relief.
Steve hums softly.
"And you said my game was off," he mutters against his lips.
"Oh, you little shit." Eddie smirks dangerously before he presses in without his previous hesitance. If Steve wants to play, Eddie's good at making up his own rules.
They find a wall to rest against, and Steve's hand has just ventured to Eddie's ass when an ear-piercing shriek makes them jump apart.
"What! The fuck!" They can hear Dustin's voice, but he's trying to blind them with his flashlight, so his face stays hidden until the rest of the gang joins him. Someone's light shows his pale, shell-shocked expression.
"Why are you molesting my brother?!" He points accusingly at Eddie. "And you!" He turns to Steve, still braced against the wall. "You were groping my DM!"
Steve rolls his eyes.
"Please, I barely touched him," he scoffs.
"Yeah." Eddie crosses his arms to show his disappointment. "Because you so rudely interrupted."
"Ew! Ew ew ew ew ew!" Dustin covers his ears and moves forward, almost running into a wall in his haste to escape. The rest of The Party follows, though much calmer. Lucas even stalls behind to give the two older boys a thumbs up.
"Congrats." He grins before disappearing after his friends.
"Well..." Eddie trails off once the sound of distressed Dustin fades away. "I'd say we scared him pretty well, so, mission accomplished?" He smiles, throwing finger guns to sell his point better.
"Two missions, even." Steve smiles back, motioning him to come back closer.
"Two birds, one stone. Very time-saving of us." Eddie happily returns to his place in the other's orbit, which also means his ass is reachable again.
"We could go for two birds one hand later?" Steve offers, but all it does is make Eddie laugh loudly.
"Holy shit, you truly have no game, Harrington! You're lucky I dig it."

Stupid little Steddie Halloween one-shot ❤️
--
"We look stupid."
"No you look stupid dingus, I look hot."
"Why did Dustin have to have a Halloween party anyway? Isn't he still a baby? Doesn't he trick or treat?"
"He's 19 Steve."
"AND?!"
"Psh whatever. You just don't want to go cause you don't want to meet the people he's replaced you with."
"I do not! I have not been replaced. He's allowed to have other friends...as long as he knows who's #1."
Robin shoves him off the sidewalk as they approach the door.
"Men in Black was a good costume, it's easy, and we look good in suits."
"It's easy because it's dumb, besides, Halloween is stupid."
The front door opens and Steve's mouth goes dry. That's not Dustin.
"What?" Robin chuckles at him.
Steve falls to one knee.
"What!" Robin shrieks at him.
He turns his head in her direction but keeps his eyes on the stranger at the door.
"I take back what I said. Not stupid."
"What isn't stupid?" The beautiful stranger at the door is talking to him!
"Halloween," Robin states.
"Oh what are you supposed to be?"
Steve's mouth is faster than his brain.
"Your future husband."
Robin's mouth drops open.
The man at the door chuckles.
"That's why you're in a suit huh? And on one knee? Man am I lucky."
Steve's dark red.
"I'm anything you want me to be," His tone is so serious.
"Is that right, hmmm." He bends down and touches the collar of Steve's shirt. He frowns and Steve's heart plummets to his stomach.
"What's wrong?"
"Well I was hoping for boyfriend material but I think husband material might work out in the end," handsome stranger giggles at him.
"Oh my god marry me right now."
"Steve-"
"Not now Robin I must have him."
Robin sighs and leans across him, holding out her hand.
"Robin Buckley and you are?"
"Eddie Munson," handsome man replies. "I assume you're Steve?"
Steve blinks at him. Not a thought behind his eyes.
"Uh-huh"
"Okaaay big boy why don't we get you guys inside and get this party started. Then we can discuss your proposition." he turns around and walks inside slowly moving his hips hypnotically.
Steve gets up slowly and turns to Robin.
"Rob."
"Steve."
"I need him."
"Ok buddy let's go inside."

Steddie Halloween
Halloween after 'Spring Break' must be such a hard time for Steve. This is the guy that regularly hosted costume parties at his house during his King Steve era. And at some point probably hosted more laid back ones for the kids and Robin.
But since the Russian bunker he just... can't.
He has regular and more frequent night terrors of torture that had him and Robin shivering and holding onto one another like buoys. He's been dragged down into the depths of lakes by unseen monsters that left all kinds of scars. He gets migraines from moving too quickly or seeing strobing lights.
He carried Eddie's body out of the upside down, hands slippery in blood. He did CPR and felt Eddie's ribs crack under his hands. He looked at Eddie handcuffed to a hospital bed while doctors said we just don't know yet. Had to watch his Uncle, his father, sit by Eddie every day, rarely leaving his side, staring at his chest like he was grateful for each breath his boy took.
So. He's not really able to do Halloween anymore. And that's hard for him.
But whatever. He'll survive. He's fine to sit on the sidelines if it means the others will have a good time.
At this point, Steve was already coming to terms with his bisexuality. He'd already done a speed run through the Coming Out stages and walked out the other side with the eerie confidence only Steve Harrington could muster. This is a dude who has decided that he's going to flirt with Eddie until the other realizes and gets with the program. He knows Eddie likes him. He's a pro at dating and relationships and crushes. He just needs Eddie to figure out that the not so subtle hints mean something.
And then came Halloween.
He'd already told Eddie during a movie night about how much he missed the spooky season.
(And yes, he did discuss it while openly combing Eddie's hair back from his face and absolutely relishing in the way the other boy was turning all kinds of pink under the glow of the TV. Yes, Eddie was taking his time to catch up but no one said Steve couldn't have fun while he waited).
"Aw man. That sucks." Eddie barely managed to boot up his brain again to answer.
"It's fine," Steve would say, even though it wasn't.
And then, on October 31st, Steve wakes up to a maze in his backyard.
It's not a very good maze. It's mostly just tipped over pallets taken from behind Melvalds as the walls and tarps as the ceiling to block out some of the light. But it's so clearly meant to be some kind of a haunted hallway.
Steve is in boxers and a ratty Hawkins Swim Team t-shirt. He didn't take time to put on shoes, so he's walking across the cold concrete and the dewy grass in tube socks.
There's a sign posted on a piece of cardboard at the entrance.
ENTER IF YOU DARE
He stands there, shifting from foot to foot in his rapidly dampening socks, not quite sure what to do but intrigued nonetheless.
There's whispering and hushed voices from inside. And then Dustin is stomping out from around one of the pallet corners dressed in a suit that's clearly too small for him.
"Come on, dude. Can't you read? You're supposed to enter."
"It says enter if I dare."
"Yeah. So enter."
"What if I don't dare?"
Dustin rolls his eyes hard enough to make them stick, and honestly this kid and his tone.
"Can you just-" He groans. "Look. Eddie set this thing up and he and Robin dragged us all out of our beds at ass o'clock in the morning to put on these stupid haunted house costumes and wait around for you to wake up. So can you please just dare?"
Steve blinks. He looks at Dustin's suit. The tie is a little crooked and he's wearing bright yellow socks with his dress shoes. "I thought haunted house costumes were supposed to be... yunno... scary?"
"Yeah," said Dustin, gesturing to himself. "I'm the corporate grind."
And Steve can't do anything but laugh.
He goes through the little haunted maze. El was apparently having the time of her life and waves at him from a dead end, decked out a dress she made out of bits of stapled paper. "I am very frightening," she assured Steve. "I am overdue bills."
"That is very frightening," Steve agreed and ruffled her hair before going down another short hallway.
No one jumps out. There are no bright lights. Will had drawn decorations that they'd taped to the inside of the recycled plywood warning him of imposter syndrome and sleeping past your alarm and girls. Lucas at least put in a little more effort as a basketball player, though he had his knee wrapped in a bandage they must have picked up at the pharmacy and explained to Steve that the true horrors were being benched all season.
Max had refused to put on a costume and declared that she was scary all on her own.
Even Robin was there, waving at him. There was a cooler besides her. "This is the checkpoint," she said. "All the best haunted houses have checkpoints."
Apparently, the checkpoint included his migraine medication that he'd coincidentally forgotten to take that morning and a takeaway cup of lukewarm coffee.
"I tried to keep it warm!" She flapped her hands, waving them at the cardboard cup. "I literally held it between my knees and everything. But I had to help Eddie out last night to start building and-" she paused. "Shit. I wasn't supposed to tell you that. Forget I said that! Just- drink your coffee! Or don't! Is it warm enough? It's probably not. Fuck."
Steve is always shocked at how much more he loves Robin every day.
"It's good," Steve assured her, taking a sip. "Much scarier this way. Nothing scarier than a cold cup of coffee."
When he finally does make it to the end of the maze, Eddie is right there waiting. He's dressed as a vampire, with the stupid fake teeth and blood drawn down his chin with lipstick.
"You escaped the haunted maze!" Eddie put on a show of acting shocked, horrified, angry. His speech comes out garbled from behind the plastic teeth so it sounded more like you ethcaped the ha'ted mathe! It was endearing. Charming. Perfect. "My evil plan is foiled!"
Steve smiled. He looked back at the tarp and plywood and cardboard and duct tape. "You put this all together?" He turned back. "You built me a haunted house?"
Eddie's posturing paused. Despite how much he tried, there was little Eddie could do to hide the way he turned almost shy. He took out the teeth. "Uh. Yeah. But it's no big deal."
"It's kind of a big deal."
"It's really not," said Eddie. "Just- yunno. Figured you should be included." He brightened. "And this isn't everything! We've got a party planned at Joyce's tonight. Low music, we'll keep the lights on. Kids even picked out a movie, but I can't attest to the quality."
"You built me a haunted house."
"I... did." Eddie cleared his throat. He shoved the teeth back in. "But just so you know, it was all part of my evil plan. Which you foiled, My Liege!"
Steve stepped forward. "What was it?"
Eddie paused.
"The evil plan. What was it?"
"Oh. Uh." Eddie swallowed. "Keep you in my evil clutches forever?"
Steve beamed.
Robin had to usher a group of jeering kids away from the Harrington house. It was apparently too much for them to see Steve grab Eddie by the edges of his stupid vampire cape and tug him into a kiss.
"Dracula doesn't swoon," Dustin shouted back at them, covering his eyes.
"This one does," said Steve happily, before going back to work on a very shocked Eddie.
In the end, it did take Eddie a minute to catch up. Once his brain rebooted and he was able to comprehend that he was kissing Steve Harrington, the boy he'd loved since long, long ago.
He spends that night at the party sitting on the couch with his face buried against Steve's chest while the movie played. "You'd been flirting with me?"
"Mmmhm," said Steve, popping a candy corn into his mouth.
"This whole time?"
"Yup," said Steve.
"I wasn't imagining it?"
"Nope," said Steve.
"This is real?"
"Yup," said Steve, and dropped a kiss onto the top of Eddie's head.
"Okay," rasped Eddie. "Just checking."
"Learning how dumb you were being was the scariest thing this entire halloween," Dustin mumbled from the floor.
