How does your OC deal with loneliness? Have they ever been completely alone before? How do they act when there's no one around to see them?

I think being completely alone is vague, says the autist. My first thought was that no, I don't think Sicely's been the only living creature for miles, but no, even that's not true-- they were the sole survivor on that derelict before the empire found them. Their whole life, Sicely's a lonely little light-- alienated from their own people, then completely isolated from them, put in the company of strangers who all seem to be afflicted with acute cases of adult madness, made to live by new rules- most of which contradict the ones they grew up with- having their autonomy infringed upon and not allowed to leave or gods sake wear their own clothes. They're living in that ten-year catastrophe of being a teenager, and they are without friends.

Their loneliness is so chronic that they don't always notice it. A lot of the copes come from self-defeating isolation and self-berating. Why would they deserve companionship anyways? But they're a eusocial species, they need socialization to survive. And that comes in the form of attention-seeking behavior; if Sicely doesn't deserve companionship, then maybe they can be a really really good companion for someone else, and live vicariously and be satisfied with that. Fawning. But there's also times where they need attention and get fed up, and that leads to negative attention-seeking behavior where they lash out or are insubordinate on purpose.

When no one is watching, Sicely seems smaller, somehow. They go through the motions of life, lost in thought and daydreaming about open spaces and foreign biomes. Sometimes they cry.

Is your OC monstrous in any way? Is there something that makes them monstrous? Are they aware of their own monstrosity? Do they accept it or reject it?

Sicely is very monstrous by human standards, in an empire where the more human-passing you are the more privileges you get. But they're also considered a mutant aberration by their own people. They just can't win! They live their whole life being reminded of this aberrant quality. I think Sicely ends up embracing it after a while, even though thry still loathe themself-- they're never gonna win fuckin governor pryce's respect, so why bother acting civil? Why let any of these people domesticate them? Why not be a wild animal in a fallible cage?

While Starwarsland broadly seems more tolerant of everything in that sci-fi way*, Difference/neurodivergence (particularly in children) seems to be even more punished than it is in real life. Overall children seem to have an even worse lot than real life, given the thriving slave market for child Force-sensitives.

*with the obvious exception of the Empire

Not to project all over the place but from what we're given, early signs of Force-sensitivity probably look exactly like early signs of neurodivergence (particularly autism)--kid not reacting right, seemingly knowing too much/being too smart, fixated on patterns or connections nobody else can see, being either overwhelmed with emotion or not appearing to express it at all (because a Force-sensitive would naturally be expressing themselves with the Force, it's just that nobody else around them can read that), etc.

...partly why I have very little trouble believing that families all over the galaxy willingly give their kids to the Jedi. I've seen the shit people will do to their neurodivergent kids 'out of love' in real life (up to and including murder) so it's not tough for me to believe at all that parents in a galaxy far far away also don't want to deal with their weird children.

Anyone else miss taking the Falcon for a ride?
