Along Came Fire - Avery/Blair, Pt. 2

By the time the heaters in the stadium get the memo, the set is over and Blair has had just about enough of this frigid bullshit.  

He’d managed to fend off whatever fuckery his sinuses were concocting during the performance, but now, it’s gotten to the point where no amount of shallow breathing and nose rubbing will do the trick. His body has just had enough of him.

And the feeling is fucking mutual. 

Blair cringes against his knuckled fingers with a flash of teeth. "HhhRISSCH! –RIIHHHSSCHuh! EKTSSCH! UhhhCHHSSSH!" He pauses, breath a hitching, ragged heave. "Hhh–RIISSSCCHHiiiuuhh!"

"What, you're not going to try for an even six?”

He stops with the miserable, wet sniffling and glances over his shoulder.

It's her. Just standing there with a laminate around her neck, like she belongs there. No idea where she’d gotten the pass, but he’s not going to ask questions, especially not with the way she’s looking at him right now.  Kind of like how the Blond Wonder looked at him, but with a more curious sort of concern rather than outright, overly empathetic gawking.

Hard not to stare back at that mane of hers with all the red, orange, and yellow competing for space, a vibrant cascade of fire that has the nerve to call itself “hair.”

“Hey.”  She waves a hand in front of his face with a bit of a laugh. “Are you okay in there?”

He offers her a slow blink in tandem with the realization that he has said nothing to indicate an answer.

“I am,” he says.  “Just too damn cold.” One eyebrow arches high.  “Are you?”

She tilts her head. “Cold?” 

“Okay,” he clarifies. 

“Oh! Yeah, I��m fine.” She combs her hair away from her face with one hand and laughs. "I’m pretty sure I left puncture wounds on that idiot, so there’s that."

Probably.  He hadn't missed how aggressive she'd been. Kind of a firecracker for such a slender chick.

Hot.

"Yeah, well. Guys are assholes." He offers her a smirk.  "But I'm a bigger asshole." 

"Good quality, if you ask me." Her smile is a sly mirror of his own.

“Damn straight.”  He tugs at the knot on his bandana out of habit.  “Avery, right?” 

“Yep.” She pokes him in the chest with one finger.  “You didn’t tell me you were the bass player.”

Cue the smartass eyebrow arch. “You didn’t ask.”

“I don't usually introduce myself and then be like, ‘so, do you play the bass?’ ”

“Why not. Good conversation starter.” 

She flicks a piece of his hair with a pop of her fingers. “You're weird.”

He’ll take that.

But what he’s not going to take is any more shit from his sinuses.  Sort of.  Goddamn it.

She does the curious, cocked head thing again at his abrupt change of energy and asks the obvious question.  “Something wrong?”

“Nothing. It’ssss uuhhh-hhhheh!” He holds up a hand to politely silence furthering questioning, breath catching in his throat with a choppy attempt to draw in enough air. "Heeh-hh. . . Hh'RISSSCHU! Hkg–CHISSSHUHH! Fuck."  He rubs at his nose with a sniffle. "Hhngh, sorry. The cold fucks me up."

"I can tell," she says as he sneezes again with twice the force and less control. 

Goddamn it. 

"God bless," she says in this voice that's somewhere between concerned and a bit. . . something else. 

Interesting . . . 

"Stick around and you'll get sick of saying that real fast," he says. 

She laughs, but doesn't refute him. She does, however, close the distance between them unexpectedly.  "Hold on." A hand reaches up to adjust the apparently lopsided bandana tied around his head. "You're about to sneeze this off." 

"Heh, thanks."  He fiddles with the knot on the thing and tightens it. "Wouldn't be the first time." He regards her with a slow, assessing tilt of his head.  “Feel like sticking around?”

Her eyes are the lightest shade of honey gold he’s ever seen.  And to think she asked him about contacts.

“Sure,” she says. “You might need someone to fix that bandana again.”  A faint hint of super white and slightly pointed teeth peek from behind her lips,  which is so absurdly attractive to him, he shoves a hand in his pocket to keep it to himself. 

But that still leaves him with one.  Which he holds out to her.

It only takes her a second to decide to fork over her fingers, which slide into the width of his palm like something delicate and precious.  Compared to Blair, most people are on the smaller side, but while Avery is tall, she's particularly slender of frame, a fact that is emphasized by the tight black pants and matching bodysuit with strategically placed fabric slashes she’d chosen for the gig. It highlighted the fuck out of her multi-colored hair.  Like autumn leaves in a jeweled pit fire. 

“Hungry?” he asks as he leads her down the rowdy expanse of the corridor where musicians and techs alike are loudly congratulating themselves over the success of the show.

“I could eat something,” she says.

So could he.

The booth is a semicircle, not one of those across the table deals. And she sits close to him, so close that her leg presses against his thigh. 

He's not sure what he's done to elicit that kind of contact, but he wants more. So, he does the cheesy movie thing and drapes an arm across her shoulders, casually at first, but when she willingly curls closer against his side, he ups his game with an upper arm squeeze. 

Damn, she smells good. Like spring rain and oleander. 

"Are you still cold?"

He nuzzles her thick hair. "Not as much." 

Mainly because she's a fucking furnace, like a personal space heater. No complaints from him. 

Well, except for the goddamn prickling the "defrost" is causing in his sinuses. No, dammit. He's not unwinding his arm from her lithe body. 

He unrolls the napkin-wrapped silverware and snaps the thing open, but doesn't quite make it. 

"HhhRISSCH! ISSCCHUH!"  His lip curls away from his teeth in a snarl of irritation and he clamps the napkin over his mouth and nose. "AahhRISSCHuh! IKGSSSH-U!"  He sniffles and dabs at his nose with a hint of a smirk. "Hnnnh, sorry I'm so goddamn sexy." 

She laughs in a high, almost tittering way that is reminiscent of something he can't quite place, but he likes it. 

"I think I can handle you." She hooks a piece of his hair that escaped his bandana behind one ear. "God bless." 

Her breath tickles his ear and coaxes the hair on his arms to stark attention. 

"Hmn, thanks." His voice drops to a lower, darker version of itself. "You want a steak?"

"Sure," she says. "Purrs" is a better word. "I like meat." 

The way she says that is hotter than it has any right to be.

"Yeah?" He rubs at his nose with the back of his hand. "How do you like your meat?"

Her lips brush the line of his jaw with scantist touch. "Extra rare." 

Okay, fuck it. 

He shifts his body just enough to slide a hand into her hair and leans in close, pausing just shy of capturing that mischievous mouth of hers. Makes her wait for it. Teases her with a faint exchange of breath.  But when the tip of her tongue darts out to just barely flick his lower lip, he’s over it.  

And damn, can she kiss.  It’s electricity and fire, the slow, smoldering promise of something far more urgent, but deftly restrained. His body finally gets the message and switches on the heat until his skin is feverishly hot.  Sharp nails dig into his shoulders just enough to make temporary, pointed crescents in the flesh and he sits back against the vinyl seat as the kiss recedes, the faintest wisp of smoke curling from his lips. 

“Goddamn.” His eyes flutter shut for a moment and he exhales a breath from the depths of his chest, as if he’d been holding it for hours. 

Nails drag down his forearm in a light, affectionate scratch.  “Been a while?”

“Oh yeah,” he says.

A long fucking while.

The seated dinner had turned into “fuck an hour wait, room service is better” and man, had he made the right choice.  

The idiots in the kitchen had forgotten the steak knives and rather than ask some underpaid kid to go seventeen floors down to get a couple, Blair and his “date” had opted for the more barbaric option. 

Just pick the shit up and eat it. 

Now, watching Avery snack on that rare slab of meat was hotter than any porno could ever be.  There is something primal about the way she takes small, but efficient bites of the steak, the way she sort of tears off a chunk and licks her fingers afterwards.  And when he doesn't eat the entirety of his own steak, she finishes it for him. 

Where the hell had she put it all?  The woman is a slender wisp of a person.

If that’s what she actually is. 

It's the same thing with Caspian.  A flash of something wild. That “otherness.”  He’s seen it before. Plenty of times. 

“I don’t usually do this, you know,” she is saying as she licks the last of the blood and juices from between her fingers. 

“And what’s that?”

She flashes him her super pearly whites.  “Eat meat with strange men.” 

He chuckles and it morphs into a bit of a cough, reminding him that the surge of heat between them earlier hadn’t been enough of a catalyst to jumpstart his body into actually doing anything about his damn "illness."

Her expression morphs from playful to concerned and she sets the plate on the nightstand.  “You sure you’re okay?”

“Yeah.”  He wipes at the edges of his nose with a clean napkin and winces.  “Still too goddamn cold, I guess.”  

That fucking nose ring.  Not like he could just take the bastard out without some pliers.  Special ones. 

Avery moves closer, but he holds up a hand to stop her progress, his breath hitching in ragged, uneven catches.  

“Hhheh—!  RISSSCCH–UHH! ISSCCHHU!  Mother. Fucker.”  He growls to himself and drops the napkin in favor of the box of tissues that she’s now offering him.  

Fuck it, he’s taking the whole box.  

“Thanks,” he says in a tone that is way more grumbling grouchiness than he means it to be.  

But she’s obviously not put off by that because she’s suddenly right beside him, her hand on his thigh, even though he’s gross as hell whilst taking care of his dripping sinuses. 

“Sorry,” he says with a sigh.  “Was hoping this shit would just let up or fuck off.” 

“Stop apologizing.”  She rolls her eyes a little and he’s reminded of the same exasperation Caspian uses for Miami, which is more than a touch amusing. “I’m not worried about your cold or whatever it is.”  She tosses all of that flaming hair over one shoulder.  “I like a guy that can be a hot mess and own it.” 

Blair laughs.  “Jackpot, then.” 

“You can lie down, you know.”  She pats the top of his free hand.  “It won’t hurt my feelings if you’re tired.” 

After tossing the tissues into the trash, he slips her fingers into his palm and scratches his thumbnails over her knuckle.  “Mmn, I’m not that tired.” 

She leans in for a kiss and he affords her the opportunity with eager reception. Doesn't stop her when she presses herself against him again.  In fact, he pretty much pulls her into his lap and she’s happy to be there, given the way she’s kicked off her boots and settled in.

“I’m not contagious,” he says.  

Her hands slide over his chest and clutch the fabric of his shirt.  “Wouldn’t care if you were.” 

“Want me to take this off?” He tugs at the edge of his shirt.

“No,” she says.  “I want to take it off.” 

If his eyebrow arched any higher, it would disappear into his hairline.  “Okay.”  He leans back against the bed frame and lets go of her hips.  “All yours.”

Glossary of Terms & Explanations often used on the Blog:

Vacosian: Vacosians are a near-extinct natural born species of Warriors that made their home in the Ultimate Void, on planet Voidal. A majority of the race was exterminated by the God of Destruction Cerveze, however a handful managed to survive, rendering the race close to extinction. They play a cental role in the Cyverse metaseries, where it is revealed that Ruby and Blair are Vacosians who were sent to Remnant. The best way to describe a Vacosian is to think of them as Outer Gods in humanoid forms. Sometimes they have tails and horns too, but it depends from individual to individual.

Dracontine: Dracontines are a natural born species of highly adaptive warriors that were known among the earliest race to have draconic roots, if not, the earliest known trace that had direct ancestry from Primordial Dragons, before the subspecies division of draconic races had occurred. The Dracontines have been relatively under the radar for a good while after the Draconomachy, in which the total population of the Dracontines took a steep decline. However, at present time, the Dracontine race seem to sit very comfortably, with replenished populations, both in Universe 1 and 12, each residing in their own version of Planet Dracorex on both Universes.

Super Vacosian: Super Vacosian, occasionally known as Ascended Warrior, is a legendary transformation unique to the Vacosian race of both the first and 12th universes. It is the signature transformation of the Vacosians relocated to Remnant, all of whom have been able to achieve the transformation, but was famously first awakened by Ruby Rose during her battle with the evil Fall Maiden, Cinder Fall.

Explanation: It’s why some muses have multiple FCs. On that note, they’re not shapeshifters, but rather think of it like Super Saiyan, just changing hair & eye colors.

Universe 12 Kaioshins: The Kaioshins of Universe 12 are the four divine protectors responsible for maintaining balance across their respective quadrants. Purple Heart, the North Kaioshin, is a calm strategist focused on cosmic order. Black Heart, the South Kaioshin, takes a more direct, forceful approach, often resolving issues through combat. Green Heart, the West Kaioshin, is connected to nature and seeks harmony, intervening only when necessary. White Heart, the East Kaioshin, is known for her fiery temper and battle enthusiasm, yet remains deeply protective of her quadrant. Together, they ensure the stability of Universe 12.

Universal Government: The Universal Government (UG) rules over Universe 12 with absolute authority, led by The Boss, UMI, followed by the 5 Celestial Dragons, the Fleet Admiral, and a strict military hierarchy. The UG governs countless planets and species, enforcing its control through a centralized system that regulates trade, taxes, and resources. Its military is vast, with Admirals and Vice-Admirals crushing rebellion and ensuring compliance across the universe. While the UG ensures peace and order, it does so at the cost of personal freedoms, ruthlessly suppressing dissent to maintain its grip on power throughout Universe 12.

God-Key: God Key (or Grand Key/Divine Key when translated) are ten tools/weapons created by Azathoth, that when brought together, would allow entrance into her domain and  ████,  while  granting each of the 10 wielders  ██████.

Blanchimont Kingdom: The Blanchimont Kingdom, ruled by King Blair, is a vast, continent-sized realm located on Remnant. The kingdom thrives on a balance of tradition and progress, with a strong emphasis on military strength, magical innovation, and a diverse economy. Major cities like Montclair (the capital), Valeford, and Ironvale are hubs of trade, magic, and industry, while the Wyvern Spine Mountains and other natural landmarks provide both resources and defense. Though the kingdom follows the voluntary worship of the Sun and Moon Gods, Blair herself is secular, focusing on personal strength and fairness in her rule. The kingdom’s military is a blend of knights, mages, and specialized forces, all reflecting Blair’s martial prowess and strategic brilliance.

Remnant Dragon Balls: The Remnant Dragon Balls are wish orbs created by the Guardian of Remnant, Kami and were later enhanced upon request by said creator after Ruby asked her for an upgrade. These balls are mainly used on Remnant and were the first type of Dragon Balls used in the metaseries. They have played a major role and impact in the series, being used by a variety of characters, including main protagonist Ruby.

Cosmology: The Cyverse is an expansive universe that draws inspiration from a variety of beloved franchises—such as the Cthulhu Mythos, RWBY, the Dragon Ball series, and the SCP Foundation—infused with my own creative twist. These diverse elements come together to form a distinct and cohesive narrative that stands on its own. Originally, the concept began as a role-playing blog on Tumblr under the name phantxmthief, later evolving into Ancicntforged. Over time, the characters and their stories have captivated an audience, with many eager to explore the life of the Cyverse’s central protagonist, Ruby Rose, along with other key figures. Now, let’s delve into the world of the Cyverse!

oh yeah one year anniversary of unova under siege happened with absolutely no fanfare!! well here's some fanfare now! i don't have anything to commemorate this momentous occasion but here's some canon fun facts that kinda never get mentioned

blair's garboder is nicknamed "cheren." similarily, cheren (the person) caught a trubbish and nicknamed it "blair." blair (the trubbish) has unfortunately been lost due to team plasma hacking the PC system and mass releasing Pokemon

blair's mom is from a fanmade region of mine called Arjitos (ar-hee-tose). it's based on Argentina. I literally never talk about Arjitos but sometimes I think about it in the shower or something

colress' favourite anime is fullmetal alchemist

the green scrunchie bianca wears was bought for her by cheren. she was quite easily recognized as "the girl with the green hat" so she had to stop wearing her green beret, but cheren was kind enough to get her a different green accessory

liv was originally going to pick snivy as her starter, but since she had to travel from castelia to nuvema, snivy had already been chosen, leaving her with tepig. she loves her emboar very much tho and there is no animosity!!

POKEMON AU: HOW TEAMS CAN TELL A STORY

When it comes to Pokemon, I love it when teams are tailored to tell a trainer's story. Like how Silver has a Crobat that he had since it was a Zubat to show how he's grown to care for his pokemon as Crobats only evolve through friendship. Or how Cynthia has hard to catch Pokemon like Spiritomb and Milotic to show her patience and how knowledgeable she is with the local myths to be able to find them, and having a friendship evolution like Lucario hints at her kindness. Some of my OC teams are built like this. Some are just there for the reference. Here are my notes:

All starter Pokemon are super rare. Having them is a status symbol. Characters who have them are either high nobility (Keagan, Fiona) or are associated with them (Shizuke, Blair and Blake).

Keagan, Fiona and Shizuke having a starter from the same set (Sinnoh: Infernape, Empoleon and Torterra) is also my way of connecting them as close childhood friends. Definitely got those three as a joint gift from Keagan's parents.

Keagan's team has a lot of references to his royal upbringing. Volcarona being the Sun Pokemon ties into Keagan being the prince of Helios City. Pidgeot also references the sun with its looks and golden crest. Liligant and Tsareena both reference noblewomen.

Keagan's team centering on Sunny Day tactics is a direct reference to one of his og monikers, The Sun Prince. His focus on special atk is meant to reference his magic-focused strength. The tactic also best showcases the way Keagan fights in the OG story, he overwhelms the enemy with his magic, his presence shines like the sun.

In contrast to Keagan using Sunny Day to buff his Pokemon's speed and fire attacks, Fiona's Snow is used more defensively, buffing her ice types' defenses and enabling Aurora Veil. Fitting for a sworn protector... Or someone keeping their guards up and hates their vulnerability.

With both Keagan and Fiona having weather based tactics, its a fight for dominance to which of them would take the lead... And with Fiona having less pokemon relying on Snow than Keagan's pokemon relying on Sunny Day, it shows Fiona doesn't really mind prioritizing Keagan and letting him take the lead. But her and her Snow Warning is always there, ready to put a hault to his tactics and anyone else looking to use weather to their advantage.

In a similar vein to Keagan's Volcarona, Blair's Espeon also being called the Sun Pokemon hints at her being more deeply tied to a certain Helios royalty than her brother... In the OG, Blair did sell her soul to a witch, who is actually the sun empire's lost princess. It's the same with her having Incineroar, a fire-type starter Pokemon. Blake having the fire type Ninetales also references his connection to a certain lost sun empire royal but with it not being a starter is meant to hint his connection is weaker than Blair's. It's not his soul that's being held captive. Also, Espeon and Incineroar both being cat pokemon... In myths, cats, more than any other animal, are casted as a witch's familiar.

On another note, all these references to the witch can also act as foreshadowing their eventual team up with Keagan. Blake's Drought Ninetales and Blair's sabotages with Fake Out... They're both highly suited to helping Keagan with his Sunny Day set up team.

Blake and Blair, much like Silver, having their signature mon be friendship evolutions are meant to hint at their kinder side despite their typically antagonistic roles.

Blake and Blair both starting off with an Eevee but branching off with an Umbreon and an Espeon... They show how the twins started off similarly, but much like their Eevees, they grew very distinct from each other, almost polar opposites.

Dark types hint at pragmatism and/or cynicism in the trainer's character. Keagan has hints of this and his Houndoom represents it, being his ace makes this trait more prominent. It's easy to miss when most of his team are fire types and Keagan fits the passionate fiery stereotype on the surface. Damien having a Tyranitar and Natalia having an Alolan Muk also reflects this, but they're more cynical than pragmatic and neither of those pokemon are the pokemon they're most associated with. Blake and Blair has dark types as one of their specialties with Blake having significantly more dark types than Blair hinting at him being the more ruthless twin. Also, being the one with the most Dark types, Blake really is the most pragmatic and cynical of the cast but that doesn't necessarily mean he's evil...

Shizuke's dark type is a fun case. He has this Pancham that evolved into a Pangoro with the influence of Blair's pokemon. It reflects how Shizuke adapts some of Blair's pragmatic tactics to overcome his many weaknesses, evolve in a way.

Natalia also has her arc told through Mareanie as she evolves into Toxapex. Starting out with the ability Merciless and being used offensively, then changing it to Regenerator and being used defensively... It reflects how the trainer herself healed. She matured, gained a new understanding of her feelings and found a healthier outlet than lashing out so she is no longer left hurting as much as she used to.

Zephyr has a Heliolisk with the ability Solar Power. It reflects how through Keagan's influence and empowerment, Zephyr has stepped forward into the battlefield and is proven to be a powerful glass canon. But that doesn't change how his curse is still hurting him and Keagan is putting him in danger, which is reflected with the HP loss that came with Solar Power.

Another ability his Heliolisk can have is Dry Skin, which lets him heal when hit by water attacks, fitting considering the water specialist Natalia is his doctor. The drawback is fire attacks hit him harder, which kinda reflects how Keagan did hurt his feelings in story, making the poor kid feel used.

The ability his Heliolisk eventually settled for is Sand Veil, which increases his evasion in a Sandstorm. Damien, his protector and older brother figure, happens to make a lot of use of Sandstorm.

Zephyr's Staraptor having Reckless as his ability can speak for itself.

Zephyr's Galvantula having Compound Eyes and his Yanmega having Tinted Lens is a reference to how he has the sharpest eyes in the OG story. They also come in pretty handy for a petty thief looking for something to steal. Sticky Web and Psychic can come in pretty handy too.

Fiona and Damien's team composition have a lot of elements in common. And I mean, A LOT. At least half of their teams are highly defensive or bulky pokemon, having a weather setter (Alolan Ninetales with Snow Warning and Tyranitar with Sand Stream), a team mate that gets a speed boost from the weather setter (Alolan Sandshrew for Fiona, Stoutland and Excadrill for Damien), a non-dragon Pseudo Legendary (Metagross and Tyranitar) and having that one pokemon that redirects attacks to itself (Rhyperior with Lightning Rod, Gastrodon with Storm Drain) for the sake of protecting someone's team that's vulnerable to that type (Natalia specializes in water and Zephyr with flying are both weak to electric attacks while Keagan uses a lot of fire that are weak to water attacks)... It makes sense given Damien used to have this one sided rivalry with Fiona and he envies her.

Fiona also parallels Blake with their similarly defensive strategies and both having some form of a Ninetales. Despite their seemingly opposite demeanors, they're both the protective introverts of their respective groups and they do end up getting along.

Imitating tactics is the sincerest form of flattery. It's especially evident with most of the couples. Fiona copies Keagan's weather tactics that boost his speed and offensive power with her Alolan Sandslash and Ninetales. Blake may not specialize in poison like Natalia, but he has more than half of his pokemon learn Toxic and later, getting a water type Greninja on his team. While I've mentioned earlier how Shizuke adapted some of Blair's tactics, as in, he added some stat manipulation and sabotage into his team strategies, Blair also got more straightforward with her offense. It wasn't a coincidence she picked the ghost-fighting type Annihilape once her Gothitelle left. On a less romantic note, there's also Damien who has a section above regarding Fiona, Blake taking a page out of Keagan's book and changing his Ninetales' ability to Drought to buff his sister's Incineroar or the witch's Chandellure,

Shizuke having a lot of grass and fighting types on his team leaves him open to a lot of type disadvantages. His canon event is being underestimated for his more visible weaknesses while he finds ways to overcome them.

Psychic types hint at foresight and mind reading. Nobody in the cast emulates this more than Blair, so she specializes mostly in Psychic types. It's a reference to how in the OG story, she's the one with the blessing of foresight and not Blake, who technically doesn't have a Psychic type (Gothitelle is loaned to him by the witch).

Psychic type's biggest weakness is Dark type, which is Blake's specialty. Fitting for the guy who's supposed to be her blind spot.

Blair having plenty of countermeasures for set ups is her way of levelling the playing field. She's used to dealing with people vying for an advantage. It's people who can take a disadvantage, make the best of it and fight her head on that she respects enough to drop her tactics for.

Blair having a Gardevoir references how she's self sacrificing for her loved ones... It's how she ended up giving her soul to a witch in exchange for saving Blake in the OG story. Her having the ghost Pokemon Gengar that evolves via trade is also a reference to this deal.

Blair having Espeon and Incineroar is a fun little reference to being Chat Noire in the MLB au. Just like Blake having Umbreon and Ninetales but no cats is a reference to being Renard Rouge. Both having at least one fox pokemon references them being half-fox in the OG story.

Fiona's personal gripes about her feminine side can be represented by her Alolan Ninetales. She's more fragile than her bulkier and more masculine pokemon like Corviknight or Metagross... But she fills a unique spot on her team with her Snow Warning to set up Snow and Aurora Veil to buff her team's defense in one move. She also sets up her Alolan Sandslash by activating Slush Rush. Being a Fairy Type adds some much needed coverage against Fighting Types as well as a good damage dealer in her team where more than half are defensive. By accepting Alolan Ninetales like she accepts her femininity, Fiona can get stronger and finds more balance.

In contrast, Natalia's most elegant and feminine pokemon, her Swanna, represents the kind of girl she wishes to be perceived as. She sees herself as an ugly duckling and dreams of growing into a swan. In the OG story however...

Natalia having a lot of water and poison types on her team in a reference to her being a sea witch in the OG story, it gives her a complex about her looks. She likes cute pokemon but poison types are of more use to her and her profession. Her Ribombee is a reference to being Princess Honey in the MLB au.

Fiona having Empoleon and Corviknight is a reference to how in the OG story, she is both high nobility and a knight. Also her monster form whenever she's possessed is avian themed. In the MLB au, she's the next holder of the peacock miraculous after Pavonis.

Keagan having a Volcarona is a reference to his ties to Hawkmoth and becoming the next holder of the butterfly miraculous in the MLB au.

Same with Damien having a Carracosta, a reference to him eventually becoming the holder of the Turtle Miraculous.

Only Shizuke doesn't reference the MLB au but to be fair, even in the MLB au, he had trouble accepting he's Ladybug... And none of the ladybug based pokemon suits his fighting style.

Some of their main types can reflect with how they interact with others' main types. Mentioned above is how Blake, the Dark type specialist, is the blind spot of Blair, the Psychic type specialist. There's also Shizuke who mainly uses Fighting types is weak to Blair's Psychic types, but Blake the Dark type main is intimidated by him. Fiona who uses Steel and Ice types is extra weak to Keagan who uses Fire types. The unruly Zephyr who uses Bug and Flying types doesn't bother the sturdy Damien who uses Rock types.

for starters i'm sorryyyyyy for letting this sit so long I have no excuse other than life and brain chemistry are Nuts.

BTS-wise, this one-shot within the universe was inspired by a photoset I stumbled across here on tumblr, and I thought: "that could be my blorbos" and lo! it came. I started drafting it while at was at my folks' for christmas, and then it sat in google docs in purgatory before I summoned the spoons to complete it. which at the time I thought was odd, because my general technique with smut is to write it all within the space of a couple days--they just flow differently than things with, ya know, plot, but this one incubated for a while, and I think it served it.

HCs-wise, I've jotted down a few about this universe and specifically the beginning of dair's marriage within it :)

this is how Dan & Blair (mostly Blair) announce the wedding:

Blair’s is a quote of a different kind: Reader, I married him. 

They make their posts from a sidewalk cafe in Firenze then shut off their phones. 

And the internet goes WILD

immediately there’s all these buzzfeedesque articles like “Blair Waldorf, Former Princess of Monaco has remarried,” and “Blair Waldorf’s New Husband Is Hot” and “Who Is Mr. Blair Waldorf?” and “Blair Waldorf Totally Won Her Divorce”

Just to fuck with everyone Blair posts another pic of Dan a couple days later. it's of him sitting at the window in their tuscan villa, pretty much the view Blair wakes up to in the beginning of it's something new. Caption: my huckleberry friend

They don’t see any of it til they check their messages over breakfast the next day. Dan loves the nomer “Mr. Blair Waldorf” and immediately adds it to his profiles (which he only made bc his agent made him). Sherri, said agent, almost makes him change them back before she sees the spike in his book sales. He was doing well enough on a debut, but now he’s doing really well. 

Thanks to his family’s caution (and the NDAs signed by the wedding vendors), no photos of Milo surface, he’s mentioned by Blair in her interview of course, and outside of W he’s only known as “Humphrey’s grade school-aged son”

Nate has a good laugh at it all, which he calls payback for all the good natured ribbing he and Serena got in the summer with “Serena van der Woodsen and Nate Archibald Eloped, Apparently”—a headline that spurred several never-ending phone calls from a horde of van der Bilts, and one—as Serena calls it—“ugly-ass gravy boat” (and yes, she did have to contribute to the swear jar for that)

I actually have MORE mostly about the work after something new, so don't mind me if I share those too ;))))

Speaking of Serenate, they’re on the move a lot and bring Sophie when they can, but she’s old so long haul trips to LA that are only a few days aren’t ideal. So they ask the Humphreys to dog sit a lot. Dan always outright refuses, because he knows that dog-sitting is only one degree of separation from “Why can’t we get a dog, Dad?” and he just cannot have that conversation. Again. 

There’s a lot of anxiety from all parties when Blair gets pregnant. There’s her traumatic history which flares up when it is most inconvenient, plus Dan’s trauma coupled with the fact that  he hasn’t done this part before. He missed almost all of Georgina’s pregnancy, so he doesn’t really know how to be. 

Milo expresses a flicker of concern because he knows on some level that the upcoming baby is genetically connected to his parents while he isn’t and he needs reassurance. 

Dan consults his brother Scott, who lived through a similar situation being an adoptee, and being an adoptee with a younger sibling that was born to his parents, and his perspective helps. 

They move from the loft to a Park Slope townhouse just after the New Year and just shy of the beginning of Blair’s third trimester. She’s not allowed to pick up anything, so she just stands in the center of the first floor and directs the moving until Dan makes her sit on the first chair they bring in (the one from his home office). A joke about a sedan chair is made, and then Dan immediately regrets it when she looks like she’s considering it. Milo’s her assistant when he gets back from school. It’s adorable. 

It’s more house than either Humphrey boy knows what to do with, but they follow Blair’s lead in putting it together. Her nesting instincts kick into overdrive—it’s quite a thing to witness. Dan acquiesces to hiring Dorota full-time so Blair doesn’t do too much. 

The fetus of when everything else changes is male, despite Blair and Milo’s good vibes. After he’s born Blair—hopped up on drugs—is like “A boy? I don’t know anything about boys. How do I raise a boy?” Dan gives her a funny look and reminds her that she’s been successfully mothering a son for a few years now, actually. 

I haven’t an earthly idea what that baby’s first name is (Otis? — I’m KIDDING) but his middle name is Nathaniel. 

Blair and Milo are very precious and anxious and fussy when the baby comes and Dan is much more chill. He jokes that it’s because he’s Blair and Milo’s first baby

Dan becomes a stay-at-home dilf, fulfilling his potential ♥️

Rufus leaves the decision of what to do with the loft up to Dan and Jenny, and they can’t really bear to part with it, so they keep it in the family. It becomes Jenny’s crash pad when she’s in NY, and eventually morphs into her makeshift atelier, where she works while she’s in NY.
