Star Wars Battlefront II
The Star Wars Battlefront game series has been going on for more than a decade. With it’s first release in 2004, the game was an instant hit. The first installment for the Ps4 and the X-Box One was released in 2015. This game was not what the audience had hoped for, and got many bad reviews. In my opinion, this Star Wars Battlefront was not bad, but it missed so much potential. With having only one map for the most popular game mode ; Galactic Assault, many players got bored of just experiencing one map and the same battle scenarios. There were also other game options that could be played offline. These options were only small, and pretty basic. With all the criticism, EA knew it would have to do better. Two years later, they redeemed themselves with the release of Star Wars Battlefront II.
Star Wars Battlefront II introduces the players to a whole new Star Wars based game. With many new game modes, this game was an instant hit, certain to beat out the first release. EA added many more battle maps with their corresponding battle scenarios. Heavily inspired by the movies and TV shows, there are maps from each era in the Star Wars Universe. Compared to the one map of galactic assault in the first Star Wars Battlefront, Star Wars Battlefront II currently has 13 playable maps. These maps include Naboo, Starliller Base, Kamino, Takodana, Jakuu, Yavin 4, Death Star II, Endor, Hoth. Kashyyyk, Tatooine, Crait, and Geonosis. Each map has it’s own story, and battle scenarios, each different from the other. My favorite maps to play on are Crait and Kamino. These maps are the ones I found most entertaining to be on.
The battle of Crait begins on a wide open battlefield. The First Order has launched a full scale assault on the remaining forces of the Resistance. Their objective is to successfully navigate two First Order Heavy Assault Walkers through the Resistance’s defenses. After they break through the defenses of the Resistance, they lead the charge into the Resistance base, first taking hold of the main entrance. After that objective is complete, you go in further the base to find and destroy the door generators. Once they destroy all three of the generators, the game ends with the First Order side claiming victory.
The Resistance’s objective of this battle is to just defend and hold against the First Order until the First Order has run out of troops. As a Resistance player, you start with the objective of trying to take out the two first order walkers. Unlike your enemy, you can mount ground turrets and Ski-Speeders as shown in the movie.
If you fail to destroy both walkers, you have to hold the line, and try to eliminate as many First Order troopers before they take possession of the door entrance and before all three generators are destroyed. If your team manages to eliminate all 100 of the troopers before they complete any of their objectives, The Resistance claims victory. Once a game ends, another game starts, but you are switched sides, so the player can play as both sides of the battle. The battle of Crait is one of the few battles on Star Wars Battlefront II that takes more than the average 30 minutes. This battle is an epic one, with each side both capable of winning.
The Battle of Kamino takes the player back to the early stages of The Clone Wars, where Clone Troopers are still rocking their phase 1 armor. The battle begins in large room, where Clones are guarding their data bases from the Droids who can enter the room from many different angles. The Droids’ objective is to successfully breach into the data bases, extract the data, and take it back to their main transports. The clones just need to hold off the droids until their numbers run low, and eventually they have no reinforcements. The battle ends either when the Republic side of the battle eliminates all 100 of the droids, or until the droids get to their transports back and leave the area. The start of the battle is very one- sided, where the clones can easily protect their data files from the droids. But after this first phase, the battle is open ended, and any side can win.
The other popular game mode in Star Wars Battlefront II is Star fighter Assault. Here you can play as one from the many star fighters available in game. Just like Galactic Assault, each map in Star fighter Assault has it’s own unique scenarios and characters. There are 6 playable maps in Star fighter assault; D’Qar, Death Star II, Ryloth, Kamino, Fondor, and the Outer Rims. All of these battles are open ended, meaning any side is capable of winning the battle. Your objective is to either defend or attack. You have the choice of three main fighters: Assault, Interceptor, or Bomber. Each category has it’s own fighters, and depending the situation, each category has it’s own benefits. Personally I love to use the Assault fighters more because it has a good selection of weapons and a decent speed. Sometimes I prefer to use the Interceptor fighters as they come in handy to attack and go, sort of like hit and run situations. Bomber fighters only come in handy when your objective is to destroy something, but these fighters have the slowest movement, which makes it easier for the enemy to eliminate you.
Star Wars Battlefront II is a great game, fit for players of any ages. This game is a great way to pass time, or to have fun with your friends playing Co-op. The developers are constantly working on updates to the game, so the game won’t get boring to the player. With many more maps and characters coming out in the future, this game will have a lot more to offer in the future. See you on the Battlefront. and as always, stay tuned!
