I've just finished Chapter 1 of Starfighters of Adumar and this is already giving so much more context to Wedge's character in NJO and LotF. Just how important it is to him to find something of himself other than his career, and how royally pissed he is when Cracken comes to him with exactly the right thing to make him cancel the leave he's so eager for.

This absolutely progresses into how he acts after knowing he has to come out of retirement to fight the Vong, and then being dragged out of retirement again in LotF, this time not even for a reason.

Just. Wedge's slow build to the point where he refuses to make any more sacrifices for the concept of "making the galaxy better," as the consensuses and politicians and bureaucrats define "better."

Hello everyone! I have spent the last two years writing a lot of fanfic that I haven't posted because I wanted to finish all the stories first. And unfortunately my ambition and far too much free time has led me to now have three completed fanfictions that are over 50 thousand words each.... So I think it's time I start publishing don't you? The question is, which do I publish first, or do I post all three at the same time? If so I would post updates for each one once a week. Each Monday and Wednesday and Friday would be a chapter of one.

Let me introduce you to the fics!

The first is,

A game of thrones fic from the perspective of a Young Tywin Lannister and it begins around 258–263 AC (the reign of Jaehaerys II and early Aerys II). It is a great story it you enjoy political coming-of-age stories that involve a slow-burn tragedy.

The plot:

Before Tywin Lannister was the feared Lord of Casterly Rock, Hand of the King, and lord of Westeros’s most ruthless house, he was a boy born into a tarnished legacy. This fic explores his rise from dutiful son to cold, feared warden of the west as he wrestles with his father’s failures, his complicated relationship with Joanna, and the slow corruption of his closest friend, Prince Aerys Targaryen.

The second is,

A Hunger Games AU from the perspective of Finnick Odair and Annie Cresta, and it begins in the 65th Hunger Games but an alternate arena where District 4’s golden boy and a quiet girl from District 10 are thrown together in a desert of salt, bone, and blood. It’s a great story if you enjoy survival romance, capitol spectacle, and slow-burn tragedy wrapped in a war of masks and mirages.

The plot:

Before Finnick Odair became the Capitol’s favorite, and before Annie was shattered by loss, they were just two teenagers trying to survive. This fic explores the beginnings of their bond, part alliance, part lifeline, as they navigate a brutal arena, a web of capitol manipulation, and the terrifying possibility of love in a world that punishes hope.

The Third is,

A long, slow-burning Marauders Muggle AU set in 1950s France following Jegulus and Wolfstar in a world without magic, just the glow of the circus tent. Told mostly through the eyes of Regulus, James, Sirius and Remus, this fic is perfect if you like forbidden love, found family, aching class divides, and the quiet rebellion of boys learning to want love.

The plot:

Before Regulus Black was a name whispered in drawing rooms and french boarding school halls, he was just a quiet spare with perfect posture and a practiced smile, raised on wealth, silence, and expectation. And before James Potter was anyone’s sun, he was a boy in paint and sequins, the golden-hearted star of a traveling British circus, tumbling through fire rings by night and nursing bruises by day. When the circus arrives in France, the Black brothers are attend, half out of curiosity, half out of boredom, and what they find under the big top changes everything. Regulus is entranced by James from the moment he sees him fly, and Sirius finds himself face-to-face with a familiar performer who left him behind long ago: Remus Lupin, tight-lipped, weary, and full of old resentments. As the brothers return night after night, fascination deepens into something reckless and real, pulling all four boys into a world where class and family mean everything, and love, once chosen, might cost them everything they know.

'Nuremberg' Sony Pictures Classics

Sony Pictures Classics said Wednesday that it has taken North American and worldwide airline rights to James Vanderbilt’s Nuremberg from Walden Media and Bluestone Entertainment.

The pic, which was written and directed by Vanderbilt is based on Jack El-Hai’s book The Nazi and the Psychiatrist, stars Oscar winners Russell Crowe and Rami Malek and Oscar nominee Michael Shannon.

Set post-World War II, Nuremberg chronicles the true story of the eponymous trials held by the Allies against the defeated Nazi regime. Pic centers on American psychiatrist Douglas Kelley (Malek), who is tasked with determining whether Nazi prisoners are fit to stand trial for their war. He finds himself in a complex battle of wits with Hermann Göring (Crowe), Hitler’s right-hand man. 

Richard E. Grant, Leo Woodall, John Slattery, Mark O’Brien, Colin Hanks, Lydia Peckham, Wrenn Schmidt, Lotte Verbeek and Andreas Pietschmann also star.

A nationwide theatrical release is planned for November 7, ahead of the 80th anniversary of the trials.

Nuremberg is produced by Richard Saperstein, Bradley J. Fischer, Vanderbilt, William Sherak and Walden Media’s Frank Smith, Benjamin Tappan and Cherilyn Hawrysh, along with István Major of Filmsquad and George Freeman. Executive producers include El-Hai, Brooke Saperstein, Annie Saperstein, Beau Turpin, W. Porter Payne, Jr., Paul Neinstein, and Széchenyi Funds’ Géza Deme and Tamás Hajnal.

Vanderbilt previously wrote and directed Truth, starring Cate Blanchett and Robert Redford. He also wrote Zodiac for David Fincher for which he earned a WGA Award nomination. He has written and produced over 20 films.      

The film is financed by Bluestone Entertainment, Walden Media and Budapest-based Széchenyi Funds. Mythology Entertainment developed the project for over a decade after first acquiring the underlying rights to El-Hai’s original article and book in 2011. WME Independent represented the worldwide rights to the film and negotiated the deal with Sony Pictures Classics on behalf of the filmmakers.

The U.S. Army base formerly known as Fort Bragg will once again bear its old name — but this time but in honor of a new namesake.

The Fayetteville, N.C. base was originally named after the controversial Confederate general Braxton Bragg, and bore that title for a century. The Defense Department changed it to Fort Liberty in 2023 as part of a broader initiative to rename nearly a dozen military installations that had previously honored Confederate leaders.

On Monday, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth issued a memorandum changing the base's name once again, this time to Fort Roland L. Bragg.

"That's right: Bragg is back," Hegseth said as he signed the document on board a military aircraft, in a video shared by the Department of Defense (DoD).

Bragg, a private first class with the 17th Airborne Division, isn't exactly a household name. The DoD describes him as a "World War II hero who earned the Silver Star and Purple Heart for his exceptional courage during the Battle of the Bulge."

The memorandum that Hegseth signed suggests the name change is both an ode to Bragg's service and the legacy of the military base at which he was stationed.

Bonus: Mai is NOT a clingy resentful idiot, but a smart person and a good friend. Some explicit language here and there, a bit of mild smut.

Includes mentions of implied child abuse, Lu Ten’s diaries, exploring Avatar Roku’s legacy, sharing a balcony, heart-to-hearts, a hot spring under the stars, an actual date, and artbending. It’s incomplete, but what we have is bliss. Slowburn, mutual pining. Zutara-centric, but also explores the personalities of Team Avatar and their relationships.
