Gravity Falls x Percy Jackson: GF Characters as Demigods (Pines)

So I was watching the love god episode and then started thinking about gravity falls characters as demigods in the Percy Jackson universe (obsession with Epic the Musical came back, so PJO obsession tangentially as well). But this is what I was thinking! Might do art of this, idk yet.

Mabel as an Apollo kid!! Her artsy-ness and sunshine disposition sold it for me. So many crafts and making the stan wax statue! A sweater that *lights* up? I mean, cmon.

Her love of music and dance!

Also, Apollo deals with archery and I think her grappling hook skills could carry over to that? Like once she gets to Camp Half-Blood?

The other possibility for Mabel I thought of was a kid of Aphrodite bc of her love for love. Also, I think Mabel can be persuasive with her words (like Stan ig) so I can see charm speak for her.

EDIT: Apollo is also the god of plagues and this point is a stretch but it’s kinda a connection to Mabel accidentally causing weirdmaggedeon?

Oh Quora also says Apollo was a caretaker of cattle and sheep which reminds me of that short where Mabel helps the 8 legged cow escape!! Omg. Tell me she wouldn’t get along extremely well with Bessie the ophiotaurus from PJO.

Then, I thought of Stan and at first I was like, he could be a centaur like Chiron?? BUT then I thought of the angsty idea of him being a Hermes kid!

Stan being kind of crook and thus a child of the god of THIEVES/TRADE/WEALTH/MERCHANTS/TRICKERY/mischief/cunning?? It works.

Hermes also being a “protector” and one of Stan’s biggest character traits is being a natural protector.

Wakfu Human AU stuff I’ve been cooking up because I’m too lazy to draw it yet

(also yes I’m using their S2 iterations because THAT IS THE BEST SEASON + I hate S3 & 4 with a BURNING PASSION.)

Yugo and Adamaï are adopted fraternal twins, they live above their dad’s restaurant downtown and help him out with cooking. Yugo has a form of dwarfism and Ad is albino because dammit this is my AU I can do what I want. At this time they’re 12 / 13 and attending middle school. Also, they both have ADHD.

Yugo is big on Pokémon, Minecraft and MLP, and has a hat he literally never takes off in a Neurodivergent Kid kinda way (think Louise Belcher). Additionally, he has a pet budgie he’s crazy about.

Adamaï is a theatre kid (in a “I’m totally not projecting” kinda way) , and likes Transformers and Lego Ninjago. He also collects bracelets. You know what, I’m throwing in that he’s intersex because I can.

Amalia is 14 and a year away from highschool, she’s a big environmental activist and frequently drags her friends to rallies, and she has a decent social media following on Instragram where she essentially just vlogs. Her father is a politician and she comes from money, but she insisted on attending public school because she dislikes her status. She’s also a hardcore K-Pop stan because she WOULD (I’m not familiar with any bands but feel free to suggest any you think she’d like).

Tristepin is 17 and spent a year at military school, where he met a gruff dude a couple years older than him whom he now considers one of his best friends (Rubilax). He lives with his older cousin on his dad’s side, and boxes in his free time with coaching from said cousin (which is Goultard. by the way). Chronic shonen anime watcher…. he would SO eat up DBZ,, also a fan of combat related video games. He got held back a year in highschool and is dating Evangelyne.

Evangelyne is 18, has technically graduated and owns her own apartment. She does a ton of extracurriculars (figure skating, fencing, archery, tennis, creative writing, was on the debate team, etc.), and therefore was able to get into a really good college on a scholarship. She babysat Amalia when they were kids and Amalia’s family let her live with them for a few years when her dad left town. She regularly visits museums and adores the arts. Also a LOTR fan.

Ruel is OLD, an ex-rockstar / athlete / nepo baby and is absolutely LOADED, although now he just owns a pawnshop downtown and takes Yugo and Ad on fishing trips, where he gives them unwarranted advice about buying stock. He and Alibert are married for “tax benefits”, and co-parent the twins (I am a MASSIVE Rubert believer don’t @ me), although he’s still currently paying alimony to his ex-wife. He also owns an exotic, likely illegal pet and has gotten involved in more than one pyramid scheme.

Additionally, they all play DnD together and in this AU, the entirety of Wakfu is their custom DnD campaign (with Adamaï as the DM, ofc :3)

Dipper Pines - age 23

-Graduated highschool at 17

-Took a 'gap year' traveling with Stan and Ford. Ford managed to work this into counting toward Dipper's degree.

-With Ford's help, Dipper, at age 21, earned his PhD in computer science. (Don't think about it too hard, considering the main theory for Ford is that he completed his first PhD in 3.5 years EEK). Dipper studies biology on the side.

-Dipper moves to Gravity Falls despite Ford's advice to keep climbing the academic ladder. He buys his own little place in the woods, within a short distance of the Mystery Shack (belonging to Melody and Soos). He begins his own research, and continues Ford's. Though he may not have a fancy degree for Biology, he studies it in his spare time.

-Interested in computers, film, drumming, and ghosts. Big ghost hunter this one. Don't let him tell you about his old youtube channels. Also taken up the job of ensuring Bill stays out of Gravity Falls.

Mabel Pines - age 23

-Graduated highschool at 17

-Bounced around different areas of study before settling on Paramedic. She completed her certification at 20. (Did NOT do summer semesters like Dipper).

-Started her own yarn and craft business at 19, 'May & Hogg Threads - It'll give you stitches!' which is doing insanely well.

-Mabel doesn't have plans to move to Gravity Falls, and despite missing her twin, has decided CA has more opportunities for her.

-Interested in crafts, scrapbooking, adrenaline rushes, ultimate frisbee and loves her grouchy old pig.

Pacifica Northwest - age 24

-Basics as they don't come up often. Graduated at 18, got her bachelor's in business at 22. Currently debating going to fashion school.

-Though she maintains her own Tailor shop in Gravity Falls, she works at Sally's Diner on weekends to spite her parents.

-Interests include thrifting, archery, sewing, singing and hiking (she'd die before admitting that).

'Journal entry 1 WOOP. Can't believe I get to be the one to write this, definitely thought one of the others had gotten here first. Guess they're just too slow. Can't blame them though. I'm pretty fast.

But back to that stupid demon(?) Bramble. It doesn't seem to have a physical form like Bill did but ------' (the rest of the entry is unreadable. Covered in what could be glitter glue, or Mabel juice. A final note is scribbled on the bottom of the page.)

starting this rant off with the fact that i love RA. i adore Rangers Apprentice and i have since i first read it at age 8, but holy hell does Flanagan have a lot to answer for in terms of the archery.

Flanagan was in no way an archery expert, and neither am i, but i have been shooting recurve bows since i was old enough to hold them (my first time shooting was hysterical, the bow was bigger than me) and i know a bit about the differing types of bow, arrow, fletching, etc. and how different bows are designed for different people.

my first issue is that fact that Halt, who is canonically Short As Hell, uses an english long bow. this has nothing to do with strength and everything to do with the fact that the bow is bigger than him. he MIGHT be able to bring it to 3/4 draw with his arm length. i’m 5’4 and cannot possibly shoot more than 30” (apologies for the imperial, i’m north american) arrows, and long bow arrows are usually at least half a foot longer than that.

we stan one Short King but it doesn’t matter how buff you are, shooting a longbow is basically pointless if you can’t even bring it to full draw

ive written one fic for this already but i do think about it often. dick has a grudge w bruce which burns with the might of a sun and its completely earned. talia makes pamela bc she missed her baby really really bad. as zeus fucks his big sis so does bruce fuck his mom. jason and tim are supposedly slades servants but between slade and dick its pretty obvious who the favorite is. slade isnt a step dad hes the dad who stepped up. damian is off in the fields with the cows while being mad at bruce for getting in between him and visiting his big brother.

Tsurune Character Songs Album Review

We had a lot of thoughts about these songs while working with the lyrics, so we decided to do a mini album review! Please enjoy listening to each songs as we reflect on the lyrics and composition~

Up Stairs

Mod Yumi: A very gentle, comforting song, as expected from a Minato/Seiya duet. The composers did an excellent job capturing the feeling of nostalgia; this somehow feels like a song I've known and loved for years. The lyrics are perfect--I love the references to the bridge scene from s1 ep10. The line "I had a place where my heart could relax" is so precious <3 Overall, I don't think it's the strongest song on the album, but it's definitely one of my top faves!

Mod Optimus Prime: A heartfelt way to start off the album! It's very sweet and mellow, which of course really fits the fact that, y'know, the song is about Minato and Seiya's relationship! It's more or less just a straight callback to all of season one, but it's really touching how (both literally and figuratively) they come together at the end there.

Crossover

Mod Yumi: This song is so excessively dramatic and I kinda love it?? It does NOT sound like a song that ties into a soothing, chill slice of life archery anime and I am here for it. But I'm also weak for synth horns; give me a cheesy overexuberant fake brass section and I'm sold. Bonus points for all of the archery references and unnecessarily homoerotic lyrics. (And special shoutout to Mod Optimus Prime, our resident FukuJun stan, for helping me with the color codes because I was completely lost lmao)

Mod Optimus Prime: Probably the character duo song with the most...attitude to it? And sass, which of course, fits these two incredibly troublesome boys. To me, it's almost like the two are having a back-and-forth with each other while also brazenly admitting to each other just how tangled up they are—admittedly a reoccurring theme for the duet songs, but that doesn't make it any less cute, I think!

Ari no Mama de

Mod Yumi: Very cute and wholesome, doesn't really do it for me in terms of composition though. I do think this is the most well-acted song on the album. Having heard both of these seiyuu sing as other characters (notably Suzuki Ryouta as Bisco from Sabikui Bisco and Yano Shougo as Mafuyu from Given), I was blown away by how different they both managed to sound! Changing your voice to that extent while singing is not an easy thing to do. I was also tickled by the fact that they both noticeably sang less well than I know they're both capable of singing, because it suited the characters better to do so. Listening to this song, you wouldn't think either of these singers are particularly talented, but that fact is proof in and of itself that they ARE talented. Mad respect for the skill displayed here!

Mod Optimus Prime: Unsurprisingly, sunshine boy Ryouhei and the other local cheery boy have an easygoing and slow duet! I can't really say too much aside from the fact that the lyrics are both just really cute and earnest—you can see Ryouhei's influence here, haha.

Growing Up

Mod Yumi: Very cute, very catchy! I enjoy this song a lot. As a side note, I find it interesting that besides Minato, Nanao is the only character to be featured in two songs. One of the things I like about Nanao is that he's characterized mainly through his relationships with other characters. Sometimes when we see this happening it's more to do with lazy character writing (and lbr, it usually happens with female characters). But in this case, it actually builds our understanding of the character, rather than just casting him into the side character role of 'only here to develop the MCs'. To me it's always felt like he's the most put-together of the team, watching over everyone else and giving them a nudge in the right direction, while blending in so effortlessly they don't suspect a thing, like the social chameleon he is. Oops, this just turned into me gushing about Tsurune character writing lol. The song's nice idk what else to tell ya

Mod Optimus Prime: Also yet another honest song—a rare thing for Kacchan! It's obviously about Kaito and Nanao's close friendship and the further development during season two, so it's fitting we also get to see more of Nanao's (somewhat hidden) stubborn side here. Not to meme here, but really shows how their relationship fits the, "the more things change, the more things stay the same," aka them supporting ("protecting") each other through thick and thin.

Gekkou

Mod Yumi: I'm not the biggest fan of the composition of this song. I can't put my finger on why, but the main melody isn't working for me (and doesn't work great for Asashin's voice either tbh). That said, the backing track lives rent free in my head, I'm OBSESSED. And I love the dreamy feel of the lyrics! Whereas the others feel more like a dialogue between the singers, this one feels like a poem. The ethereal quality of the music and the lyrics draws me back to Masa-san's introduction, when he was a cryptid/ghost (lmao) appearing in the dead of night to guide Minato back to archery

Mod Optimus Prime: I've only heard Asanuma Shintarou (Masaki's VA) sing in a higher register, so this was both surprising and pleasant—it's quite soothing to hear! It's also fitting that the only Real Adult™️ with bounds of experience compared to these young'uns gets a really poetic and dramatic song with, of course, lots of moon references.

Kyoumei

Mod Yumi: THIS IS THE BEST ONE. This song is a legit bop omg. Leave it to luck life to give us a character song that exceeds typical character songs! I also love the meaning of the lyrics; it almost feels like a new angle on the Shuu/Minato relationship in a way? Of course we know their history and their affectionate rivalry, but we don't really see either of them putting into words how they feel about each other (especially Shuu-- I had to laugh at the line "we didn't need mundane words"; like no dude we could actually use a few more words from you, given your track record of communicating approximately 7% of your thoughts smh). This song puts into words how much they mean to each other and how, despite their complicated history and rivalry, they still care about each other.

Mod Optimus Prime: Luck Life actually composed this song, which really shows in the style (that catchy guitar, anyone?)! I adore the constant references to "sounds"—while a bit cheesy and on those nose, of course, it fits these two to a T and calls back to that season one finale. Again, not that any of the songs are really subtle, but "We might be apart, but I believe we'll someday return / So we didn't need mundane words" really just sums up their unique friendship/rivalry. Also, love how the two only sing together at the end: really fits with the song's whole message/theme about the two being separated, but eventually reuniting! How sweet.

tw: opinions.

sometimes i truly cannot stand videogame fandoms. the constant comparison towards the women is insane. i always find people arguing with me about ellie williams, ada wong and numerous others being ‘strong’ enough to beat lara croft in a fight.

first of all — all these women work completely different jobs. i don’t even know why ellie is being brought into the conversation, considering she hasn’t experienced anything like lara, and more so like ada, but not exactly. this brings in my first argument, really; she doesn’t share the same experiences considering she’s much younger than both lara and ada so let’s quickly draw her out of this!

second of all — regarding lara and ada. the reason i get into so many debates is because the people i’m talking to are usually hardcore aeon stans. which is fine, i’m not going to generalise, and really i couldn’t care less about who ships who. it’s just annoying, considering ada is heavily inspired by lara in many, many ways. lara is not just an archaeologist (you don’t see her digging up fossils and researching them. 🤦🏼‍♀️) she’s done many spy-like jobs like in tomb raider 7. i like ada, re4og ada is actually one of my favourite videogame characters, but definitely not the first. i don’t mean to say lara is better because my opinion wouldn’t apply to many people and another thing that irks me, these two brilliant women are from completely different videogames.

lastly, my actual thought on this debate? lara would win. i’m sorry, but let’s bring some facts into this. ada lacks upper body strength because she uses mainly grapple hooks and fireweapons, but this doesn’t mean to say she’s weak and can’t throw a good punch. it would just put her at a disadvantage, plus the heels she wears (which she rocks) but let’s be real for a moment here. ada is incredibly agile, she’s a fast runner and can think well in complicated situations similiar to leon which is an attribute i think they share, so her lower-body strength is really good. only problem is, she’d be versing a woman who literally has the best aerobic ability, both in the reboots and the classics. if you haven’t seen how high lara can jump, i suggest checking it out. she’s flexible, incredibly intelligent and sneaky, i can’t really give a comparison between the reboots and classics because she’s equally good in both.

another thing that puts ada at disadvantage, her arsenal. lara uses all sorts of fireweapons (rifles, launchers, sub machines, hand guns and etc.) , combat knives, archery gear, explosives, and of course, grapple hooks, climbing equipment— her hands and legs. in the resident evil four remake, ada wears that iconic sweater dress which tears quite easily in seperate ways, which also puts her at disadvantage as lara usually wears tactical gear that can protect her. her critical hit damage ranges from over 300% whereas ada’s (and leon’s and almost every other resident evil character) ranges from 25%. why? experience. she was born in 1968, which makes her older than ada in 2024.

so if some silly person were to ask me that immature question again, and actually wanted an honest answer; then yes, i do believe lara would beat ada, i do believe she would beat ellie and lots of others. even jill. but this is my opinion that’s based on facts that i’ve seen from playing the entire tomb raider triology.

but overall it’s a stupid thing to even discuss because it seems like i’m putting those women down. i’m not. they’re all strong in their own ways. if ada weren’t an anti-hero i believe she’d get along with lara, and it’s needless to say that ellie and lara would get along too, kind of in a claire and sherry way, and jill? honestly, i think they’d be best friends.

(by the way, i love leon so much, but he wouldn’t stand a chance against lara either. especially classic lara, who is practically op.)

Soos as a kid of Hephaestus (kinda changes canon tho but hey another Hispanic Hephaestus kid alongside Leo).

Soos is a handyman and Hephaestus was considered the god of artisans aka craftsmen and carpenters.

Hephaestus was also described to have a lack of social skills which we can see Soos have throughout the show especially in the “Soos and the real girl” episode! I think Soos and his personalities match quite a bit minus Hephaestus’ resentfulness since we don’t rly see Soos hold a grudge. Some also describe Hephaestus as friendly and peaceful which are some of Soos’ greatest qualities.

Wendy as a maiden/hunter of Artemis!

I couldn’t think of any other demigod possibility beside maybe Demeter?? But I was talking to my friend about her being an Artemis kid and they said that “Robbie would be her turning point definitely 😭” so credits to them for that!! And they also that they thought Wendy’d be like Thalia and against becoming a hunter for a while (hence her becoming a maiden at 15 rather than 12).

I also searched it up and not only is Artemis the god of archery/hunting, she also had to do with the wilderness and FORESTS which works for Wendy! Being of a lumberjack family.

EDIT: I wrote these posts before watching weirdmaggedeon and now after watching s2ep18, I noticed Wendy literally using a crossbow lol so yay Artemis Wendy.

In PJO at least, Artemis has authority over wolves and I found this image of Wendy in a wolf shirt lol.

Onto to some more minor characters…

Robbie as a kid of Hecate (necromancy/magic) maybe?? Due to that time he tried to mind control Wendy into being with him LMAO

Or hades ?? Since his parents are funeral home directors/morticians. And his emo-ness fits with Hades and is kinda like Nico lol.

Oh actually maybe Thanatos!! Bc idk if Robbie would be a kid of the big 3. Thanks to my friend again who mentioned him as the god of death itself as I forgot who Thanatos was lmao

EDIT: finished s2 and found out about the whole Zodiac thing which Robbie *is* a part of sooo Hades Robbie is more plausible I suppose!

Or maybe even Apollo? He’s seen w a guitar often and has a band. But im more torn between Hecate and Thanatos.

I think ppl would first think of Pacifica as a Aphrodite kid but I raise you Hermes! Pacifica.

Hermes was the god of wealth and luck (and also associated with business) which goes well with Pacifica’s rich upbringing

Also similar to what I said about Stan in the previous post and Hermes kids (Luke), Pacifica started off as a misunderstood character

Hermes is also the patron of athletics and we know Pacifica is at the very least, good, at mini golf

I like Pacifica as Hermes but can’t properly express why 😭😭. She’s wealthy and lucky obv but she’s also misunderstood as conceitful? I also think she could be really playful and fun if her parents weren’t overbearing. So this is mostly headcanon LMAO

Another thing I find irksome about InuKag and Kagome stans is that it’s bad enough they wanna force the whole fandom to worship their precious Kagome, but they even expect Kikyo to kiss Higurashi’s ass too and have the audacity to get soo offended when she doesn’t!

They’re always whining about how Kikyo was ungrateful and never thanked Kagome for all those times she saved her and was always testing her, and they also blame her for not training Kagome… I’m sorry but why should Kikyo be expected to thank someone who she knows hates her deep down in her heart? Kikyo’s not stupid, she knows how Kagome really feels about her and that she only saves her for Inuyasha’s sake and because she feels like it’s her “obligation” for being a good person. Kikyo doesn’t owe Higurashi anything, if anything she wasn’t mean enough! All she did was state frankly that she won’t thank Kagome for saving her because she knew she would feel obligated to do so anyways and Kagome stans act like she’s the biggest bitch in the world for saying this… Like no? She was just telling the truth, why should she feel gratitude and help someone whose true desire actually wishes her gone? Do they expect Kikyo not to have any self-respect and be a doormat to Higurashi?

So many times I wish Kikyo had the balls to tell Higurashi off just like the illusion of her that the Mt. Azusa Guardian conjured up, if anything she was too classy about it! It reminds me of this fic I was reading, the author was an InuKik shipper for once and in it Kikyo was way nastier to Kagome than she ever was in the actual manga, but she was saying what we Kikyo stans have always been thinking. In the fic Kikyo finally tells it like it is when Higurashi is getting on her case again and says that even though she acts like she’s so mature and level-headed and looking out for Inuyasha, in reality she’s just a child and can’t do a thing without Inuyasha!

Sis ate and left no crumbs! 😂 Higurashi was so flabbergasted and dumbfounded in the fic when she said that lol, I wish I remembered the name of the fic because really, that’s exactly what Kikyo should’ve said to Kagome in-canon to finally put her in her place! It’s true, Kagome’s a weak immature child who hides behind Inuyasha and expects him to protect her from everything meanwhile her privileged ass don’t lift a single finger except always getting kidnapped and screaming “INUYASHA!!!!!!” every 5 seconds.

And they act like Kikyo is obligated to train her in her Spiritual and Archery powers too? What a joke! How about she train herself for once instead of always relying on Inuyasha for every little thing and expecting him to always stick his neck out for her?

Jack dislikes drinking blood, only does it to stay alive, but she does it often. Combining that and her long life so far, her eyes are a deep red color.

She likes learning new things, figures that that’s a good way to spend her longevity. She knows archery, guitar obviously, she’s learning Greek and Latin to start with, she wants to learn more languages.

She really loves being a vampire. It’s actually a core part of her. I can't say which famous old movie star I got named after without exposing my birth name which is hella fem, so if u wanna like ask for deets, u can! but we stan classic movies in my family's house and I am named after a pretty famous actress from the classic movie era, which is...cooler now that I've made peace with it, but still deeply funny for the success i was set up for from my fam.

When was the last you cried? Probably a few months ago when I was really stressed about being sick and a bunch of other stuff going on.
