My husband is supposed to be leaving for his 9mo rotation this sunday? the date keeps changing. Because of that we are just kinda spending time together and moping. When he leaves I will have to resettle into the house by myself and do things such as grocery shopping (because theres something to be said about buying food in front of your spouse when he knows he isn't going to be here to eat any of it) followed by another work week. Right now the house is a mess because he's been panic packing.
it takes time to build a single-individual habit and routine so we will see what happens to my art when I get into that period of time.
The challenging part of this rotation is usually he leaves beginning of the year and back at the end. This time he will be gone from mid year to mid year. 8( so all the holidays I'll be alone by myself. Disneyland with the inlaws is still kinda up in the air.
so I dunno, I have things to keep me preoccupied I'm just in a weird end of the country this time. Again, there are places I could drive to to go visit but I dunno if I'm brave enough to travel to the unknown on my own. So.
I do have a large video game library to catch up on. I'm slacking on books this year, just not in the mood. My gym habit I need to pick back up on.

Relief print- wk 3
For the 3rd week of the movement project I decided to do relief print. I thought this would be a good jumping off point from ceramics as I had slabs which could be turned into prints and I was really looking forward to doing printmaking in general.
As I focused a lot on footsteps and the movement of my fathers walking through ceramics for the original work of print I wanted to focus on my Nan and Dad’s hands, a symbol of hard work for many years which now get to rest and move a little slower than they did before. They both are never seen without a mug of tea in hand and I wanted my stamp to encapsulate the tremors through the hold.
I also incorporated the mark making sheets from ceramics and this combination added more movement to the stamp. The stamp turned out quite graphic and bold, which I don’t know how to feel about. I find the splashes to be quite dynamic and enjoyable though.
I also tried to get the edges to line up so I could create a repeating pattern- this was difficult to achieve, both while registering and cutting the stamp but I still like how it turned out even if it doesn’t lineup perfectly :)

Depiction of The Ardent One, a god of centipedes, fire and artistry in a friend‘s setting
design breakdown below the cut
reblogs appreciated!
So, the Ardent One is the centipede god of magical technology, craftsmanship and art, blacksmithing especially and fire. I wanted to illustrate him for my girlfriends future Pc in the setting, Esophorous, who follows the god. The little human at the bottom of the illustration is him.
Here is all the symbols the ardent one wields, and what they represent:
The things he is holding, from upper left following along the body down to the upper right + what they represent!
Sigil - Enchantment
Fire - General symbol of his
Crystal ball - Divination
Knitting needles - Knitting
Pencil - Drawing/Writing
Chisel - Stonemasonry
Compass - Architecture, Astronomy and Navigation
Mask - Theatre, general symbol, Maskmaking
Runestone (depicting Dagaz, which stands for light and potential) - Runemagic
Jewel - Jewelmaking, Magiccrafting
Gears - Machinery construction
Vial of Ink/Blood - Calligraphy, pun on my username, Alchemy
Needle with Thread - Sewing, Embroidery
Awl - Bookbinding, Leatherworking, etc
Hammer - smithing
Gavotte - Pottery
Yarn - Crocheting and Textiles
Stamp - Stampmaking, Lawmakers
Book - Literature, Bookbinding, Spellcasting
Tanning knife - Tanning
Spoon with Hole - Gluemaking, Paintmixing
Nail - Carpentry, Construction
Curved knife - Glassworking
Shuttle with thread - Weaving
Lense - Lensemaking, Optometry, Artificery
Also, the symbols on his spine are greek letters. They spell out (top to bottom) the words:
„Tekhne“ - Craft, Creation
„Poieo“ - To do, to make, to create
„Pyre“ - Fire
„Theos“ - God, Divinity
„Pneuma“ - breath/life/soul

currently watching: hbo rome season 2. not as good as s1 so now i'm just trying to finish it

Dunno if I posted this yet, but yea, 50% is pretty good, I advise you to avoid A4 and A3 for International shipping, unless you plan to buy several, then it kinda levels out.
I haven't decided what to do for Theodosia's (and my) birthday yet, got any ideas?☺️ I was thinking of having cake w friends at Café Sluka or somewhere similar. Or maybe a picnic.

Over the weekend before my second week in ceramics I thought about how to add texture to the surface of clay in a more concrete, less abstract way relating to my project. This is how I came up with the concept of the slab in my sketchbook in which I would carve a stamp.
Tumblr media
I made a very complex design for the shoe at first, before remembering I would have to make this thing a stamp somehow and needed to absolutely forreal so I simplified the design.
I traced the design with tracing paper and used a scalpel knife to carve. I then put this on my lino and ran ink through the stencil to get the outline.
Tumblr media
After carving it I stamped it onto the lino to get the inverse because I wanted to have both the left and right foot.
Tumblr media
Once I carved the adult sized shoes I did the child’s shoes in the same way. They turned out cool and I’m glad I made them as they absolutely came in handy.
