More relationship types: Queerplatonic, Antagonistic, Non-Binary/Male, Non-Binary/Female, Non-Binary/Non-Binary. Also more archive warnings.

If you have a series of Original Works they can be tagged as a Custom Fandom. Here are mine as example.

There is less delay in wrangling a new fandom compared to Ao3. No more 1 month+ waiting for very obscure fandoms to get wrangled!

Languages can be added to the archive upon request.

And no need to get an invite to have an account! Now you need one because of spammers and bots.

Languages List Update.

Spanish (Español) – LatAm is gone due to negativity. I felt bad for having requested it in the first place. I was confused between writing and video game localizations since those use both Spanish dialects.

New languages: Esperanto, toki pona, Greek, Norwegian and more.

There are other OTW-code/Ao3-like Archives out there, 3 in total, called "superlove archive", "ad astra fanfiction archive" and "comic fanfiction authors archive". 😀

Fandom (de)centralization

With the hardware-related intermittent outages at AO3, several people had a discussion in one of the news posts about the fandom centralization that has taken place over the past 15 years of AO3 existing.

At the same time, the fractures of decentralization - especially with things like invite-only discord servers etc - is also taking its strain on fandom as a community effort. And let's not even start talking about the commodification of fanworks.

So rather than start a discussion this, I'd like to point out a few AO3 alternatives other archives than AO3 (as it has been pointed out to me, these are not AO3 alternatives and I apologize for my word choice) for times of outages and maybe mirroring of your fanworks or hosting somewhere that is not AO3. A lot of us have lived through purges like strikethrough and while we do have AO3 and while I am glad for AO3, it's not infallible.

SquidgeWorld Archive (runs OTW software) - has also NB as relationship category and is pretty much an all purpose archive. You may be familiar with Squidge fandom image hosting or Squidge hosting space for fandom pages. All related.

superlove - a smaller archive run by melo, not currently giving out new invites but worth keeping an eye on. also runs OTW software

Ad Astra - Star Trek Fanfic Archive, also runs OTW software

CFA Archive - Comic Fanfic Authors Archive also runs otw software

Dreamwidth - is more of a blogging platform running the old LJ code, but pre-AO3 a lot of us had our fanfic on LJ. DW is fan-owned and allows the same things AO3 does.

Please read the ToS for any archive you might want to use.

ao3 doesn’t make money outside of donations (which I urge to stop contributing to, if you haven’t already), so fic writers, it’s up to you guys if you want to keep publishing your work there; continuing to use the site won’t really do anything to positively affect the site or the volunteers who work on it, nor will choosing to remove your fics have any negative impact

This applies to fic readers too; there are many alternatives to ao3 that have content available for you to enjoy (such as Tumblr, Fanfiction.net, and Wattpad), but since your engagement doesn’t profit the site in any way, whether you choose to move on from ao3 or not is up to you

As a reader, I gravitated to ao3 bc its site (and fic) layout and filter system are much easier for me to understand and navigate than other sites. If you’re most comfortable using the ao3 site to read and/or share your fics, but don’t feel comfortable using it anymore, then the best alternative for you would be SquidgeWorld Archive; it’s basically ao3, with an identical layout (albeit slightly more yellow) and filter system to boot

This site has less content and activity than ao3, so feel free to share the link with other authors!

hi hello!!! this blog has been suuuper dead. mod tragedy is super busy, and i think qce might've just lost interest in tumblr altogether, but im still around!! (also, im engaged to my qpp now??? queerplatonic MARRIAGE is REAL guys)

unfortunately i dont think im all that good at coming up with prompts on my own :( i started this blog because i really want to see more qprs written about and drawn in fandom! ill try my best to come up with some ideas if there's still interest in filling this niche! in the meantime, the inbox is always open for you to send prompts of your own!!

now, this part is slightly unrelated but since this blog has been dead, i want to say it somewhere! i know a while back there was a movement to start (tagging QPRs on AO3) with the tilde (~), but AO3 support didn't go for implementing the idea on their own? if i recall correctly, they told everyone to just do it themselves and added the idea to a waitlist. which... means we'll probably never see it, given AO3's track record :(

but since then, ive come across a different archive project that's just like AO3 called squidgeworld archive (SqWA)! they've (officially implemented the tilde as a relationship marker, as well as given QPRs their own relationship category)! its been super refreshing to be able to correctly tag and post fanfictions on there as QPR and have it be recognized, so that's where ive mostly been posting my own works. the tag wranglers on SqWA are also super quick to canonize tags and make them available for everyone to use, so it's very easy to trailblaze a fandom on there, and squidge is extremely responsive to their users so it feels a lot nicer than AO3 :)

I got called names and blocked by many because I wrote non-con in Pikmin. Every other kid fandoms I know have dark fanfic with non-con. Mario, Zelda, Sonic... so why Pikmin should be taboo? I left all the right warnings so anyone can hide them if they don't want non-con.

I'm the primary mod of SquidgeWorld Archive, and have somewhat been absent from Tumblr because of all the bullying that occurs here. For example, I got an email from someone that said, "You need to go look at this post on Tumblr," and it turns out the person who sent me that email wanted me to know that they had called me a "Piece of shit" on Tumblr.

Doesn't make for much of a pleasant experience, does it?

Anyways, I'm done transferring all of my fics (that I have full ownership over*) to SquidgeWorld Archive! 🫶

I'm not hopping off of AO3 just yet, though; by not renewing my donations and membership status (which I only got to participate in Board Elections anyways, wouldn't have done it otherwise), I become a drain on resources for them in the same sense as the action people took against Discord for NFT/AI chatbot bullshit. But also it's just good to have a backup anyways.

Regardless, fuck OTW and AO3 for prioritizing zionists' fragile egos over shit as simple as "From the river to the sea" - I hope they rot in hell! 🫶 Don't give them your money - they have a stupidly large surplus, anyways - and they also began a donation campaign while Gaza was being bombed, so (OP and final reblog are the relevant posts here). Do with that what you will.

*Two of my fics are exquisite corpse fics. The exquisite corpse writing itself wasn't coordinated by me, so I don't feel right crossposting w/o permission (especially if none of the people on them are even on SWA). So yeah, that's why it's 18 and not 20.
