I know the internet is full of hyperbole but I can honestly say that[to me] every Superman production has missed the mark on the Clark/Superman difference until now. I can confidently say that because it’s irked me for years.
This might be the first production to actually really get into the weeds with some simple changes, use lighting, costuming, hair&makeup (peep the contour!)to convey that Clark and Supes look nothing alike. This is so cool to me!!!!! They finally did it.
Shout out to the departments. Shout out to whoever realized they needed way bigger (longer)eyeglass frames with a thick bridge that would alter the appearance of his nose making him unclockable. Whoever you are, I love this work. I love how the base of the cape on the shoulders and the collar work together. It gets the job done but also looks like it was comfortable to wear during hours of shooting. I love that supes has a bit of contouring in the makeup differing from Clark. Shout out to whoever decided to make Clark’s suits oversized and flimsy! It accurately demonstrates Clark’s attempt to look like a little fish in a big pond. He’s not just like that; everything is a choice with him.
Shout out to Peter King and Lindsay McCallister on the hair design/hair story. They did their big one. Clark’s hair is such a big change(so fluffy and undressed!) and accurately shows how someone would manipulate their curly hair to change their appearance. Superman’s hair really works. Honey, that hair is dressed! It is reminiscent enough to please fans but different enough to feel fresh. I like that it’s rounded on top instead of square.
Also I’ve never seen this actor before in my life but he is embodying my man in the trailer so that is also exciting. I don’t even care if the movie is good. I’m a bit over hero movies but I love me some Supes. Everyone seems to really be invested in the visuals of this project. The commitment to color is commendable after years of dark grey low lit mess. Anyway…
I love new faces. I love movies! I love departments! I love unions! I hate David Zaslav!
#like I love Superman so fucking much 😭#look at Martha’s son!#that is really the Kent boy#I don’t even care if the movie is good. it’ll be fine it’s James Gunn#just release the art book so I can put it on my table.#superman 2025

We are at a time in our national life where the political system is pretty frankly corrupt. I know that many of you despise organized politics. You’re young and idealistic and entitled to do that. But the corruption can be fixed and the heritage is too important to be let go. We are all of us collectively the heirs to the most magnificent political tradition any people has ever received. “We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men (and women) are created equal, that we are endowed by our creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. We hold that governments are instituted among men to secure these rights and that whenever any government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or abolish it.”
Those principles are so profoundly revolutionary that they still echo with great force around the world after more that 200 years. There are people today who are dying for the chance to live under those principles. They died in South Africa. They died at Tiananmen Square. They are dying today in Myanmar. And in this country we are in some danger of throwing away that entire legacy out of boredom, and cynicism and inanition. And I hear constantly people say, “Well, I really just don’t care much for politics;” “Ah well, they’re all crooks, there’s nothing I can do.” People have a million reasons for not getting involved. The thing is, you can’t back out of it, it’s not your choice. You can’t look at politics in this country as though it were a television program, or a picture on a wall that you could stand back and look at and decide whether or not you liked it.
Your entire life—the warp and woof of your life—is going to be bounded by political decisions made in city halls and state capitals and the White House, and the Capitol in Washington. How deep you will be buried when you die, the qualifications of the people who prescribe your eyeglasses, whether or not the dye you use on your hair will cause cancer. All of those, and many, many more things that touch your life everyday in a thousand ways. Whether or not your car is safe when you get into it, all of these things are affected by government. You are involved, whether you like the picture or not. And if you don’t like it, you really have an obligation to change it.

‘ IM GON BE THAT BITCH TODAY AND STILL GON BE THAT BITCH TMRW, BITCH. ‘
drugstore owner! tanaka x black! fem! reader <3
cw- black fem reader, tanaka is infatuated with you ! also the smuttiest of smut
as the girlfriend of a drugstore owner, you’d think you would get stuff for free right? wrong ! tanaka is very stingy, even when it comes to his pretty girl.
“but babyyyyy,” you whine, caressing tanaka’s chest in persuasion, “just one bottle of patron won’t hurt nobody! pleaseee!” your acrylics slowly raising up to his shaved head. “nope. sorry, mamas. payin’ customers only.” he rejects, pulling you closer to him by your waist. “ryuuuuu’ baby please! i jus’ wanna have fun with my friends tonight! i swear i’ll pay you back anyway i can!” you say, eyes practically shattering the plastics that make up the lenses in your square eyeglasses
“mmmm…anyway, yeah?” he asks, cocking a brow. “anyway!” you promise, kissing his cheek. “alright. go take a bottle. have fun mama.” he tells you, kissing your forehead. “thank you baby!” and with that, you run into the aisle that withheld all of the alcohol, and you take a bottle of patron, waving one last goodbye to your boyfriend behind the counter and you walk out.
you make it to your car, trying to pick up your pace due to the cold eating at your arms and legs. you make it to your car and plug the keys into the engine, shuddering due to the cold. you look to your right and see tanaka’s hoodie. you shrug and put it on, the fleece that was sewn into the hoodie helping your body temperature. once you were fully settled into your car, you call your friend and put her on speaker phone.
“heyyyy! you on yo’ way?”
“yeah, i’m just now leavin’ though. i’ll be there in like 10 minutes.”
“you got the patron?”
“duh. ryu gave it to me for free.” you brag.
“girl i wish my man got me stuff for free. aight i’ll see you later.”
“bye.”
and with that, you hung up the phone. down the street and around two corners from tanaka’s store. you hear a ding on your phone. you pick it up and pause the music previously playing on your aux, due to the fact tanaka sent a video.
< 61 bald bitch 🫶🏾
you should see what ur missin out on mama
*1 attachment*
you click it, already guessing what it was. the stereo that was previously playing city girls was taken over by the sounds of the pre-cum that was slathered over tanaka’s tip and the sounds he made due to it.
‘miss ya so much mama..’
‘can’t wait for ya to come back..need ya so bad..’
you practically type at what can be only classified as lightning speed,
god dammit ryunosuke. give me five minutes.
and with that, you swerve your car back around and hit those two corners once again and race down the street. parking sloppily once you get there. just from the lobby of the store, you can hear your boyfriends heavy breathing and his light whimpers. “dammit dammit..” he whines, throwing his head back. you march to the work room and see tanaka in the midst of his ecstasy. “you’re such a fuckin’ asshole.” you murmur, a snarl on your face. “yeah huh…enough of a….shit…enough of an asshole to come back?” he chuckles.
i’ll come back in like two hours when i get more motivation to finish this i apologize

I can't find on my blog if I've posted about this before, but the 19th century local dandy that wrote Edgar Allen Poe fanfiction, Douglass Sherley, was mentioned in this letter that a local historian dug up for me and it is fascinating. I'm just going to copy + paste my pillowfort post about it.
So the historian I've been in contact with was an incredible help, and went ahead and transcribed the bits of the letters that discuss Sherley.
"The description of Douglass Sherley is on the final page of that letter (page 6) and reads:
“By this time you have, doubtless, read of the horrible confirmation of the old reports about Douglass Sherley. I did not believe them before and cannot comprehend how he could have been guilty of such baseness. He has consented to leave the country for good next Monday, so ___ Sherley’s brother informed brother Will.” Bruce then goes on to talk about cantaloupes, I think. I believe the blank might be “Mrs.” or a first name.
Second letter, second page
“You say you did not read of Douglass Sherley’s disgrace. Don’t speak of it to anyone, for the disgraceful affair should never pollute a woman’s lips.' "
These letters are from August 23rd and August 28th 1896, and there are barely any mention of him in the Courier Journal after 1896. This is important because prior to that he was all over the paper. There were mentions of him going to numerous weddings and parties, he wrote columns for the paper, and he was involved in putting on things like operas and plays.
He also died in Martinsville, Indiana, which makes me wonder if that was where he moved. (I believe he still lived in Louisville for part of his last years.)
I think I've just about reached a wall with my research; the only other thing I have any interest (at the moment, at least) in chasing after are newspapers that he was in when he toured with James Whitcomb Riley. Someone else was kind enough to write a blog entry that includes clippings from non-Louisville newspapers, and they're an interesting look into how Sherley was known outside of Louisville:
The Wilmington, NC Weekly Star, 8 Dec 1893 (reprinted from the Indianapolis Journal):
Kentucky’s Oscar Wilde Douglass Sherley is doubtless, in a literary way, the most conspicuous person in Louisville. He is notable also in many other ways. At first glance he is seen to be what is styled a “character.” Being fond of character study himself, he would no doubt generously recognize his own claim to the classification. He is a large, well built, squarely adjusted man, with a massive head and neck, dark hair, an intelligent brown, suggestive of femininity in a way, keen and kindly eyes, a large brown mustache, worn in curly ends like the “beau catchers” of the traditional stage spinster, a pleasant, sensitive mouth, with the air of a man of the world, but withal a clean, temperate, perfectly correct man of the world. He has a droll habit of holding his head on one side and looking aslant through his eyeglasses, which gives him a unique expression, and without which and the flowers in his lapel, almost always a red rose, he would hardly be Douglass Sherley, Mr. Sherley is popular among the men, and also much liked by the women, his literary work being more generally appreciated by the latter. There is a fine, feminine, but not unmanly, quality in his writings, which really only women, or men with a like feminine streak, can interpret and enjoy.
A point of interest is this May 1886 article about Sherley from the Cincinnati Enquirer
A CLUB SCANDAL Douglas Sherley, of the Pelhams, Involved He Hunts for the Originator of the Story, and in His Search Punches a Bank Clerk SPECIAL DISPATCH TO THE ENQUIRER LOUISVILLE, KY., May 3 — Nothing is talked of in the clubs to-night except a difficulty which occured to-day between Mr. Douglas Sherley, Present of the Pelham Club, and Mr. Matt Smith, a member of that body. Mr. Sherley is a man of means and leisure, and belongs essentially to society. HE has written several books and has built an aesthetic house that has been the talk of the town for three years. The Pelham Club members are the younger set of society men and recently persuaded Mr. Sherley to accept the Presidency of their club. Within the last two weeks, however, a movement has been on foot in which twenty members of the club were interested to bring about Mr. Sherley’s removal. The understanding was that the twenty members in question should offer their resignations simultaneously to the Board of Directors. When questioned in regard to this unexpected action they were to say they would not belong to an organization which had for its Chief Executive a man who had been guilty of certain disgusting and unnatural practices that were charged against Mr. Sherley. When Mr. Sherley heard of this movement to-day he went at once to Mr. Matt Smith, a blank clerk, whom he had heard was one of his defamers, and demanded an immediate denial in writing of the nasty stories. Mr. Smith said he had not originated the stories, but had repeated them, and refused to sign the paper. Mr. Sherley, who is a fearless man and very athletic, promptly attacked young Smith and gave him a sharp blow in the neck. Smith attempted to return the blow, but outsiders interfered too quickly, and dragged the gentlemen apart before either was painfully injured. The affair quickly went the rounds, and the scandal has been vigorously discussed by society men all day. It is due Mr. Sherley to say that none of his friends believe the stories which gossips have put in circulation about him. He is an eccentric man, and some of his peculiarities have subjected him to comment, but he is a gentleman, nevertheless. Mr. Sherley has secured a cowhide and a pistol, it is said, and will either thrash or kill the man who is at the bottom of the outrage, if he can discover him.
I have a lot of thoughts about the connection but I'll get back around to that later

The Only Crown For Me
“Did you see it too?” Albert asked his brothers after they all got into the carriage, bringing them back to the manor from the Queen’s palace. They didn't talk about their expanding agreement with Mycroft. Only the glimpse of a secured crown inside the square glass inside a room they went through.
“It is stunning, indeed,” Louis corrected his eyeglasses.
William, on the other hand, looked far into the windows. “It’s great, but not the best.”
Both of his brothers’ eyes went in his direction. William smiled as he imagined the flower crown Albert and Louis made for him once.

July Break Bingo: Pond
I signed up for July Break Bingo / @julybreakbingo and immediately was inspired by the "Location: Pond" square on my card. I'm so pleased; I've written almost nothing in the last month or two, and it feels so good to get something out again! Also posted on DW.
Location: Pond Biggles, gen, 700 wds
On this peaceful afternoon, there was—until a few moments ago—nothing much going on at this end of the quiet pasture. Perhaps there might have been some excitement at the far end, a few gunshots and the sound of a distant engine starting up. But down here, there was just a picturesque little pond, a few trees with their leaves fluttering in a light breeze, and a handful of drowsy sheep.
The sheep were now clustered in a tight knot under a tree a few dozen yards from the pond, which sported some new accessories, namely: a wing and part of a fuselage and aeroplane tail sticking up the air, and several thrashing, muddy figures struggling to get out of the water.
Ginger was first; he turned back to help Bertie out, while Algy heaved a weakly struggling Biggles onshore with a fist in the back of his jacket and then had to be helped out by Ginger, as they were all covered in mud and he kept slipping back in.
Coughing, Biggles sat up, swiping his hair out of his eyes. "Are we all here? Anyone hurt?" He swept his gaze across the bedraggled little group; his face, under the mud, changed to alarm. "Where's vo—"
"The prisoner?" Algy interrupted. "The one whose ill-advised escape attempt is the cause of our current predicament? That one?"
"Yes, where is he?" Biggles started to rise, fell down, and was then held down when Algy grabbed his arm. "Algy, let go, he might be trapped under the machine—"
"He's over there," Ginger put in.
Von Stalhein, covered in mud and streaming water, was just extracting himself from the opposite side of the pond. With a lithe, eel-like movement despite his sodden condition, he slipped out onto the bank, where he rolled over, sat up, and glared across the pond at them.
"Anyone have a gun?" Algy asked, keeping a grip on Biggles.
"All the guns are at the bottom of the pond, 'm afraid," Bertie said. He attempted to polish his eyeglass on his muddy shirtfront and then looked at it in distress.
"Not to mention the papers we were supposed to retrieve," Ginger remarked. With a swift glance at von Stalhein on the far side of the pond, he added, "I don't suppose there's anything left to retrieve at this point. They'll be so much paper pulp now."
Von Stalhein wrung out his sleeve and plucked a strand of pond weed from his arm, continuing to regard them balefully.
"That means we've nothing to argue about any more," Biggles said cheerfully. He had finally managed to shake off Algy.
"I suppose you're going to tell us that he hasn't done anything wrong and there's nothing to call the authorities about," Algy said between his teeth. He jerked a little, reached into his pocket, pulled out a frog and tossed it back into the pond.
"Well, he hasn't the papers on him, has he?" Biggles said. "You can't arrest a fellow for falling in a pond."
"He crashed the plane!"
"I'd call it more of a group effort," Biggles said. "Anyway, it hardly matters now, does it? The matter's settled, we're safe on the ground and all that's left is to see if there's anything with a winch about, perhaps a tractor." Raising his voice for von Stalhein's benefit, he went on, "We're going to walk over to the farmhouse and find out if they have a telephone and what sort of machinery might be knocking about the place. You're welcome to come with us—get a hot drink and dry off, at least. We can sort the rest out afterwards. Any extra hands raising the aeroplane would be welcome."
"Or you could take advantage of our distraction to run away," Algy said, hopefully.
Von Stalhein said nothing. Calmly he planted a hand in the face of a bolder-than-usual sheep that had wandered up to investigate and pushed it away.
"Come on," Algy said, giving Biggles a hand up. They began straggling muddily toward the farmhouse. After a long moment, von Stalhein got to his feet and followed them, some distance behind, trailed at a further distance by the sheep.

Whole Lotta Lotta and Leaf It to Carl recap!
Whole Lotta Lotta
In this episode, Lotta feels sad because Skyler, a girl in her afterschool club, calls her "Headphone Girl," as if that's the only thing about her. Carl can relate, as when he was younger, his classmates found out that he was autistic and called him "the autistic kid." So, he made a collection filled with things that make him, him, like his universal screwdriver, a bicycle flag, a ponderosa pinecone, and a video game controller for the first Vectronix Gaming System of 1983. Lotta is inspired to make her own collection that shows the fullness of her personality. Her collection consists of things like her patch cord because she loves music, her ladybug robot because she loves robots, a toy from Friendicorn High, etc. Lotta reveals to Carl that she is autistic, but asks him to keep it between just the two of them, as she's not ready to tell others about it. As a side note, Lotta also has synesthesia, because she says she hears colors when she plays music. Lotta shows Skyler the collection, and the latter finds it really cool, especially since they both love Friendicorn High. Skyler then starts using Lotta's real name instead of calling her "Headphone Girl." It turns out that she was also calling the other kids "braces" and "eyeglasses" instead of their real names, Brittany and Ramon, so Lotta corrects her, and they all play four square together.
When I read the episode descriptions for the show, this was the one I was most intrigued about, because 1) it introduces more characters outside of Carl's family and friend circle and 2) it deals with namecalling in school. Despite being in the same afterschool club, Skyler didn't even try to get to know Lotta on a personal level. By calling her "Headphone Girl," Skyler robbed her of her full personality, reducing her to just headphones. Lotta's sensitivity to loud noises is only one part of what makes her, her. She's not "Headphone Girl," she's Lotta, who loves art and music and robots and chess and unicorns. I think namecalling is a consistent problem for Skyler, as she called Brittany "braces" and Ramon "eyeglasses" as if that's all there is to them. The scene where Carl helps Lotta make her collection, and she reveals she's also autistic is very sweet. Carl is open about the fact that he's autistic, while Lotta doesn't really want to tell anyone, and that's perfectly fine. You don't have to disclose your disability to anyone if you don't want to. This is why the show is so great, it showcases the autism SPECTRUM.
Leaf It to Carl
Carl becomes fascinated with a unique gingko leaf he spots from the school bus and hopes to add it to his leaf collection. Meanwhile, a new student, Dylan, an armadillo boy, arrives at school. Overwhelmed by the Fuzzy Friends' enthusiastic questions and invitations to play, Dylan nervously curls into a ball and rolls around the playground, causing quite the hullabaloo. Confused by his behavior, Nico spreads unfounded rumors about Dylan being destructive at his previous school, though the others remain skeptical of her stories. After school, Carl and his friends search for the gingko leaf, only to discover that most of the yellow leaves have been taken away for composting. Spotting the last gingko leaf atop a tree Dylan is sitting under, they try various absurd methods to retrieve it without triggering Dylan’s rolling. However, Forrest startles Dylan, causing him to roll and accidentally take Carl’s entire leaf collection with him. Carl and Lotta visit Dylan’s home to retrieve the collection and learn that Dylan’s rolling was a response to being overwhelmed by the new environment. Dylan clarifies that the rumors about him were false, and Nico apologizes for spreading them. In the end, Carl gets his gingko leaf, and the kids befriend Dylan, even having fun rolling around like he does.
Another episode I was interested in seeing, because it deals with rumors. Because of the rumors, the kids were afraid of Dylan rolling over them, when in reality, he was just nervous. And it is true that armadillos do roll into a ball when they are frightened, that was a nice little Furry Reminder. Pretty good episode overall, but the "shh" at the library gag got old after a while.
