You return to the nurses' station, grabbing alcohol preps, a saline flush, an IV needle, and a tourniquet* , shoving them into your scrub pockets. Returning to his room you notice the curtain is still drawn. I guess he’s not finished? You tap lightly on the frame of the door.

“Kyungsoo? Are you still changing? Do you need some more time? I can come back” You hesitate in front of the curtain, not wanting to barge in and find him unclothed.

“No, I’m all finished.” He mutters.

You pull the curtain back, grabbing a pair of gloves from the box hanging on the door. Walking over to the bed you reach into your pockets to retrieve your supplies. Kyungsoo sits on the side of the bed picking at the skin around his fingernails.

“Alright. You can go ahead and lay down on the bed and cover yourself with this sheet and blanket. You say grabbing the sheet from the end of the bed. Kyungsoo slides back, bringing his legs up to lie flat on the bed. You place the sheet over him and then the thin blanket, pulling it up to cover his lower body. You pull and tug on the blanket, straightening it out so that it covers him comfortably. You smooth your hands over the blanket arranging your supplies neatly on top. You grab your gloves, pulling them onto each hand.

“So now I’m putting an IV in your arm. Have you ever had one?” You ask. He shakes his head, watching as you reach for an alcohol swab packet, tearing it open.

“No, I have never needed to have one, not until now I guess.”

“Well don’t worry, it’s not too bad. If you ever had any kind of vaccination. It’ll feel kinda like that. Just a little pinch.” You smile reassuringly at him. He looks down at his lap, ears turning a deep a shade of red. That’s fucking adorable. You clear your throat.

“And this is, uh, this is just for the anesthesiologist to administer the anesthetic and pain meds while you’re asleep.” You continue, trying to ignore the way your heart speeds up at the sight of Kyungsoo blushing.

“Will I keep it in the entire time I’m here?” He asks, looking up at you.

“I can’t say for certain. If you do it won’t necessarily always be hooked to a line. It’ll just stay in your arm in the event that we have to give you anything extra. Not common, but you never know, so.” You shrug. Realistically no one wants to keep a needle sitting in their arm if they don’t absolutely have to. Maybe after the first few days, we’ll be able to remove it. After about a week, I can’t imagine we’d have to give him anything else, and his pain should be well under control by then.

“What’s that for?” He asks, he nods in the direction of the bright blue rubber cord, tied painfully tight around his upper arm.

“Here’s a good one.” You mumble aloud, reaching beside you to grab the small needle. You open it up, using another alcohol swab to briefly reclean the area before going in for the poke.

“You’re gonna feel a little pinch, okay? One, two, three-“ You glide the needle through his skin, sliding easily into the biggest vein. You remove the needle from his arm, leaving the catheter for the IV in its place. You cover the area with a Tegaderm dressing. “All done,” You say, smoothing the tape down over his skin. You remove the tight band from around him, placing his arm at his side.

You round the bed, grabbing the blood pressure cuff off of the sidebar bar. “Now that we have that done, there are only a few more things I have to do, and then I will let the doctors know that you are ready to go." You place the cuff around his arm, leaving unhooked purposely. You gesture to the cuff.

"I'm going to leave this unhooked for now. When the anesthesiologist takes you, they'll hook all of this stuff up." He nods slowly, glancing around the room mindlessly.

You walk over to the small sink, reaching into the cabinets above it to fetch a betadine coated sponge. "I'm going to clean your belly next if that's alright." He glances down at the sponge in your hand.

"This is betadine, it's an antiseptic solution typically used for cleaning the area before and after surgeries. It's a not-so-nice yellow solution that will stain your skin a bit. They’ll clean it off after your surgery, but honestly,” You lean in closer to him, lowering your voice so only he can hear. “They really suck at cleaning the stuff off properly, but don’t worry, I’ll clean you up when you come back.” He laughs, his heart-shaped lips pulling into a wide grin.

"Okay. I’m just gonna pull your gown up so I can get to your tummy.” You pull the thin gown up towards his chest, pulling the sheet and blanket so it keeps his lower half covered. As interesting of a sight as that would be, we are not ready for that today. You began scrubbing his stomach gently with the cleansing sponge, trying carefully to avoid his gown and blankets in the process. After you feel you've done a thorough job, you toss the sponge in the trashcan, removing and tossing your used gloves as well. You pull his gown back down into its original position, pulling and fixing the blankets back over him too.

“Ok. All done, give me just a sec, while I go and let the doctors know that you’re ready for them.” You turn on your heels, exiting through the long corridor. You make quick work of grabbing one other thing to prepare Kyungsoo before paging the surgeon. Before you’ve even made it halfway back down the hallway to Kyungsoo’s room, you feel a presence behind you.

“Miss Y/N, you’re looking lovely today as usual. Always such a pretty sight.” You look behind you quickly and instantly regret it. Dr. Jo Kang is quickly making his approach. God, I wish I could RUN.

“Hello, Dr. Kang.” You say annoyed. This guy seriously has no idea how to take a hint. He’s been trying to get you to go out with him since you meet him, after working at the hospital for about 6 months. Since then he’s been practically harassing you.

“You know I’ve always told you to call me Jo, loosen up a bit, you don’t have to be so stiff with me you know.” He walks by your side, a frown on his face from you displeasure with his arrival.

“I’d like to keep things strictly professional between us, Dr. Kang. Anything more than would be undesired.” You say, uninterested. Thankfully before he can respond, you’re joined by the anesthesia team.

You enter Kyungsoo's room first, followed by Dr. Kang and the team of anesthesiologists. You take the leg cuffs, the last item for you to attach to Kyungsoo, and put them on each of his lower legs. Dr. Kang and Co. run through the usual pre-surgery information and question. Kyungsoo follows along silently, his attention mostly captured by the pretty foreign girl, who just so happens to be his nurse. You oblivious to his heady gaze, click away at the room's computer, inputting necessary notes, and extra information. Your attention is brought back to the people in the room when they announce that they will now be taking Kyungsoo down to the operating room. You turn to Kyungsoo.

“Looks like it’s time. I’ll see you in a few hours, okay? Good luck.” You place your hand on his arm gently, smiling reassuringly.

“Ah, thank you.” He looks down, ears flushing a bright red again.

You watch as his bed is rolled out of the room, the anesthetic being pumped into his IV as he’s rolled away.

You let out a sigh of relief. This is gonna be a long two weeks.
