Got it! Let's dive into the reactions of each member of Stray Kids to their stressed significant other:
Tumblr media
Absolutely, let's switch it up:
Bang Chan:
Sees you stressed, immediately starts brainstorming solutions.
Pulls out a whiteboard and markers, ready to map out a plan of action.
Suggests a "stress-busting" dance party in the living room, complete with impromptu choreography sessions.
Tumblr media
Lee Know:
Notices your stress and decides it's time for a DIY spa day.
Sets up a makeshift spa in the bathroom, complete with cucumber slices and soothing music.

Changbin:
Takes one look at your stressed expression and declares it's time for a "stress-eating" session.
Whips up an assortment of comfort foods, from ramen to chocolate chip cookies.
Accidentally burns the cookies, but insists they're just "extra crispy."
Tumblr media
Hyunjin:
Sees you stressed and decides to unleash his secret weapon: a collection of adorable animal videos.
Pulls up YouTube and starts playing a marathon of baby animal compilations.
Ends up getting distracted by the videos himself, leading to a competition to see who can find the cutest puppy.
Tumblr media
Han:
Notices your stress and immediately whips out his collection of dad jokes.
Launches into a series of puns and one-liners, determined to make you laugh.
Ends up getting so caught up in the jokes that he forgets why you were stressed in the first place, but hey, at least you're both laughing hysterically.
Tumblr media
Felix:
Sees you stressed and decides it's time for a spontaneous dance party.
Pulls out his phone and starts blasting your favorite songs, dragging you into the middle of the room.
Ends up accidentally knocking over a lamp in the process, but insists it's just part of the fun.
Tumblr media
Seungmin:
Notices your stress and immediately starts listing off random facts and trivia to distract you.
Launches into a passionate monologue about the history of paperclips, complete with diagrams.
Somehow manages to turn the mundane into the hilarious, leaving you in stitches by the end.
Tumblr media
IN:
Sees you stressed and decides it's time for a "stress-relief" scavenger hunt.
Starts hiding random objects around the house, leaving you clues to find them.
Ends up getting lost in the chaos himself, leading to a hilarious search mission to track him down.

Polymer foam aims to transform oil spill cleanup
University of Waterloo researchers have developed a new material that can absorb more than eight times its weight in oil, offering a new solution in preventing groundwater contamination from spills or accidents. The study, "Fabrication of Triblock Elastomer Foams and Gelation Studies for Oil Spill Remediation," was published in Macro Molecular Rapid Communications. "The current technology for oil capture is lagging," said Tizazu Mekonnen, a professor at Waterloo's Department of Chemical Engineering. "Preserving our environment is crucial, which is why developing advanced technologies like this polymer is essential for remediating future groundwater contaminants that involve oil." The polymer foam—formally known as a tri-block polymer styrene-ethylene-butylene-styrene (SEBS)—that Mekonnen's group designed turns into a gel upon contact with oil, that prevents groundwater contamination.

Say Goodbye To Stains: Tips For Removing Dog Pee From Your Mattress
There's nothing quite as disheartening as discovering that your beloved furry friend has left an unwelcome surprise on your mattress. Dog pee stains can be a real hassle, but fear not! With the right tips and tricks, you can say goodbye to stains for good. In this guide, we'll walk you through everything you need How To Remove Dog Pee From A Mattress  so you can rest easily. Let's dive in!
Understanding Why Dogs Pee on Beds
Dogs may pee on beds for various reasons, from medical to behavioral problems. It could be a sign of anxiety or stress, significantly if their environment has changed recently. Sometimes, dogs mark their territory by urinating on things that carry their scent, like your mattress.
Sometimes, a dog might have a medical condition, such as a urinary tract infection or diabetes, that causes it to urinate indoors. Age-related issues can also lead to accidents on the bed. Understanding why your dog is peeing on the bed is crucial in addressing the root cause and preventing future incidents.
Observing your dog's behavior and consulting with a veterinarian if you suspect any underlying health issues is essential. By identifying the reason behind this behavior, you can take proactive steps to resolve it and keep your mattress clean and fresh.
Quick Tips for Cleaning Up Fresh Urine Stains
Imagine waking up to find your furry friend has left you a not-so-pleasant surprise on your mattress. It happens, and it's essential to act fast! The key to dealing with fresh urine stains is speed. The longer the mess sits, the harder it will be to remove.
Start by blotting up as much urine as possible using paper towels or a clean cloth. Avoid rubbing the stain, which can spread it further into the mattress fibers. Once you've soaked up what you can, mix a solution of equal parts water and white vinegar in a spray bottle.
Spritz the affected area generously with the vinegar solution and let it sit for a few minutes before gently blotting again. Then, sprinkle baking soda over the stain to help absorb any remaining odor. Let it sit for at least 30 minutes before vacuuming it up.
These quick tips can help tackle fresh urine stains effectively before they have a chance to set in and become more challenging to remove later on.
Effective Methods for Removing Old or Set-In Stains
Dealing with old or set-in dog pee stains on your mattress can be a real headache. These stubborn stains leave an unpleasant odor and pose a challenge to remove altogether. However, fret not, as there are effective methods you can try to tackle this issue.
Creating a cleaning solution using equal water and white vinegar is one method. Gently blot the stained area with this solution using a clean cloth, allowing it to sit for some time before rinsing with water.
Another approach is to sprinkle baking soda over the stain and then mix hydrogen peroxide with dish soap. Let the solution sit for a while before gently scrubbing away the residue.
Consider using enzymatic cleaners specifically designed to break down pet urine molecules effectively for tougher stains. Follow the instructions provided by the product for the best results in removing those pesky old stains from your mattress.
Preventing Future Accidents and Protecting Your Mattress
Consider using a waterproof mattress protector to prevent future accidents and protect your mattress. These handy covers are a barrier against spills or accidents, making cleanup much more accessible. Additionally, regularly wash your bedding to maintain a fresh and clean sleeping environment.
Training your dog is crucial in preventing future accidents on your bed. Consistent potty training and positive reinforcement can help reduce the likelihood of them peeing on the mattress. Providing regular bathroom breaks for your furry friend can also minimize accidents indoors.
If you notice any signs of anxiety or health issues in your dog that may be causing bed-wetting incidents, consult with a veterinarian for guidance on how to effectively address these concerns. Remember, patience and consistency are crucial to preventing accidents and protecting your mattress from unwanted stains caused by dog pee.
Alternative Solutions and Products for Tough Stains
When it comes to dealing with tough dog pee stains on your mattress, various alternative solutions and products can be effective. Enzymatic cleaners designed specifically for pet urine removal can work wonders in breaking down the stain's odor-causing components. You can also use a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and baking soda to create a powerful cleaning paste.
For persistent or stubborn stains, steam cleaning your mattress may provide a deeper clean and help eliminate any lingering odors. Additionally, investing in a waterproof mattress protector can prevent future accidents and keep your mattress safe from potential damage.
By following these tips and utilizing the right products, you can say goodbye to dog pee stains on your mattress for good. Remember, patience and persistence are key when tackling this common pet-related issue. With the proper approach, you can keep your mattress fresh and clean while enjoying quality time with your furry companion.

Creating a show-stopping Captain America cake can be a rewarding experience, but it can also seem daunting, especially for novice bakers. Fortunately, it's not necessary for you to tackle it alone. Collaborative cake decorating is a fantastic way to achieve a stunning cake while having fun. This blog post explores the joys and benefits of working together to create a Captain America cake masterpiece. We'll provide planning tips, dividing tasks, setting up a decorating station, and troubleshooting common challenges. So, gather your fellow bakers, whether they're seasoned decorators or enthusiastic novices, and get ready to create a cake worthy of Captain America himself!
Planning Your Collaborative Captain America Cake
Theme and Design: Before diving in, discuss the desired design with your team. Do you want a classic Captain America cake with a round base, white star, and red stripes? Or perhaps a more elaborate design featuring the shield, helmet, or even a scene from a Captain America movie? Browsing online resources together for inspiration can be a great way to brainstorm ideas. Skill Levels and Preferences: Once you have a theme in mind, consider everyone's skill levels and preferences. If someone has experience with fondant work, they can take charge of crafting the shield or other decorative elements. Baking enthusiasts can focus on creating the perfect cake layers, while others can contribute their artistic talents to piping borders or lettering. Ingredients and Supplies: Make a list of all the ingredients and supplies needed based on your chosen design. Delegate tasks like shopping or prepping ingredients beforehand to ensure a smooth decorating process. Schedule a Decorating Session: Choose a date and time that work for everyone involved. Remember, cake decorating can take time, so factor in enough buffer room to complete the project without feeling rushed.
Dividing and Conquering: Tasks for Your Team
The beauty of collaborative decorating lies in dividing the workload. Here's a breakdown of potential tasks to delegate: • Baking the Cake: This can be a collaborative effort or assigned to someone with baking experience. Ensure everyone agrees on the cake flavour and size beforehand. • Preparing Frosting: Similar to baking, frosting preparation can be a shared task or assigned to someone comfortable with frosting consistency. • Creating Decorations: This is where artistic talents can shine! Depending on your design, tasks might involve colouring fondant, piping borders, cutting out shapes, or creating fondant figures. • Assembling the Cake: This stage involves layering the cake, adding frosting, and carefully positioning the decorations. Delegate tasks based on comfort levels and ensure everyone is aware of the overall design plan. • Cleaning and Presentation: Don't forget the importance of keeping the workspace clean and organized throughout the process. Assign someone to handle cleanup tasks and another to focus on the final presentation, which might involve adding sprinkles or cake toppers.
Setting Up Your Decorating Station
Having a well-organized workspace is key to a successful decorating session. Here's what you'll need: • Large Flat Surface: A kitchen table or countertop cleared of clutter provides ample space for everyone to work comfortably. • Decorating Supplies: Gather all the cake-decorating tools you'll need, including spatulas, icing combs, piping bags and tips, rolling pins, cookie cutters, and fondant smoothers. • Ingredients and Decorations: Have all the prepared cake layers, frosting, fondant, sprinkles, and other embellishments readily accessible. • Cleaning Supplies: Keep paper towels, dishcloths, and cleaning solutions handy for spills or frosting mishaps. • Good Lighting: Ensure your workspace has good lighting to see details clearly while decorating.
Decorating Like a Team: Tips for Success
Here are some pointers to ensure your collaborative cake-decorating experience is enjoyable and productive: • Communication is key: Maintain clear communication throughout the process. Discuss each step beforehand and ensure everyone understands their roles and responsibilities. • Embrace Flexibility: Be prepared to adapt and adjust the plan as you go. Unexpected challenges might arise, so stay flexible and open to creative solutions. • Celebrate Mistakes: Remember, even professional bakers make mistakes. Don't get discouraged by minor imperfections. Embrace them as part of the collaborative process and have fun fixing them together. Take Breaks and Have Fun!: Remember to take pauses to recover and prevent burnout. Play music, enjoy snacks, and, most importantly, have fun creating your masterpiece together!
Conclusion: Teamwork Makes the Dream Cake a Reality
Creating a Captain America fresh cake through collaboration is a fantastic way to celebrate the spirit of teamwork that embodies Captain America himself. It allows you to share the joy of baking with friends and family while learning new skills from each other. Whether you're a seasoned baker or a complete novice, working together fosters creativity, problem-solving, and a sense of accomplishment. So, grab your ingredients, gather your team, and get ready to embark on a sweet adventure! With a little planning, clear communication, and a dash of creativity, your collaborative Captain America cake will not only be visually stunning but also a delicious testament to the power of teamwork.

Tackling Ocean Pollution. A Global Imperative
Tumblr media
Ocean pollution is one of the most pressing environmental issues of our time, with devastating effects on marine ecosystems and human health. The accumulation of plastic waste, chemical runoff, and other pollutants in our oceans has reached alarming levels, necessitating immediate and sustained action.
Every year, millions of tons of plastic waste enter the oceans, harming marine life and disrupting ecosystems. Sea creatures ingest or become entangled in plastic debris, leading to injury and death. Additionally, pollutants such as oil, heavy metals, and agricultural runoff contribute to the degradation of marine environments.
Michael Shvartsman, a dedicated environmental advocate, emphasizes the urgency of addressing ocean pollution: “Our oceans are vital to the health of our planet. Protecting them is not just an environmental issue; it’s a matter of global survival. We must act now to reduce pollution and safeguard marine life.”
The primary sources of ocean pollution include:
Plastic Waste: Single-use plastics and discarded fishing gear are major contributors.
Chemical Runoff: Pesticides, fertilizers, and industrial chemicals wash into waterways, eventually reaching the oceans.
Oil Spills: Accidents and leaks from oil rigs and tankers release vast amounts of oil into the sea.
Marine Litter: Non-biodegradable waste, such as discarded fishing nets and packaging materials, persist in the marine environment for decades.
Addressing ocean pollution requires a multifaceted approach:
Reducing Plastic Use: Promoting the use of reusable products and reducing single-use plastics can significantly decrease waste.
Improving Waste Management: Enhancing recycling programs and waste disposal systems can prevent litter from reaching the oceans.
Legislative Action: Enforcing stricter regulations on pollutants and promoting international agreements to protect marine environments are essential steps.
Public Awareness: Educating the public about the impacts of ocean pollution and encouraging sustainable practices can drive change.
Michael Shvartsman advocates for collective action: “Solving ocean pollution requires collaboration between governments, businesses, and individuals. By working together, we can implement effective solutions and create a healthier future for our oceans.”
Technological advancements play a crucial role in tackling ocean pollution. Innovations in waste collection, such as ocean cleanup devices and biodegradable materials, offer promising solutions. Additionally, satellite monitoring and data analytics help track pollution sources and measure the effectiveness of interventions.
Ocean pollution is a critical issue that demands immediate attention and action. By reducing plastic use, improving waste management, enforcing regulations, and leveraging technology, we can mitigate the impacts of pollution on marine environments. As Michael Shvartsman highlights, protecting our oceans is essential for the well-being of our planet and future generations. Together, we can make a significant difference in preserving the health of our oceans and ensuring a sustainable future.

One frustration I have with people opposed to American support for Ukraine is they offer little policy solutions to how to handle the situation. However I do sympathize with their fears that the war can go on for years and result in a stalemate. I have always squared this circle in my mind because supporting Ukraine to improve its bargaining position and supporting Ukraine to allow it to win outright are the same. Do you think the Doves have any fair points, or are they fear mongering?
I think they're fear-mongering, and I'd argue that plenty of opponents, when you really get into the nitty-gritty, are more or less have policy positions that are contradictory to their stated aims, and the better explanation for their policies is that they desire either a Russian win or a treaty that leaves Ukraine in a diminished state for self-serving political gains.
For example, the current brouhaha in the United States is that the money spent on Ukrainian aid would be better serviced in East Palestine, Ohio, where the train derailment and chemical spill happened. But most Ukrainian aid is in the form of military hardware - you can't use a Bradley to fund a chemical cleanup operation. A lot of the MAGA opposition to aid in Ukraine is clumsily associated with the Hunter Biden story, turning it into a conspiracy theory where somehow that money gets funneled back to corrupt Biden politicians and appointees, but again, how exactly do you use Javelins in a payback scheme? It's already been debunked that US aid has been sold on the black market - that was already exposed as a Russian psyop. It does however, make sense if you see it as wanting a Ukrainian loss to hurt Democrats and establishment Republicans (Mitch McConnell and establishment Republicans are largely supportive of US/Western aid to Ukraine), to paint them as idiots pursuing wasteful policies to further their own political careers.
Similarly, the Chomskyite path for American leftists (your DSA/CodePink types - the progressive and socdem circles in America have also largely been supportive of aid to Ukraine) about wanting to secure peace via negotiation to end the war promptly is a fairly transparent lie, since encouraging a pro-Russian settlement would incentivize further territorial aggression by provide concrete benefits for taking those action - that's basic psychology. Similarly, given that Ukraine is willing to fight, opposing aid for Ukraine just means more dead Ukrainians and more categorical civilian atrocities such as what happened in Bucha. No one can really compel Ukraine to negotiate, so the idea that cutting off aid will create a peace deal is one more lie even if you sincerely believed that Russia wouldn't engage in ethnic cleansing. However, it does make sense if you see it as wanting to deliver a defeat to the West, along with fracturing and dissolving NATO and preserving Putin as a figurehead of authoritarian anti-Westernism. There's a large undercurrent in a lot of these circles for punishing CEE folks for overthrowing communism, de-legitimizing the movement, and joining the West, hence why the outcries on Russian atrocities are so muted and engage in so much whataboutism. Just compare Chomsky's writings on Yugoslavia to his writings on Iraq; this is just the latest example of that worldview.
The anti-MIC types who argue that more money being devoted to military production means less money devoted to consumer goods or social programs are also wrong. The goods, for the most part, have already been made and paid for, you can't convert an old AFV into social spending by selling it on the open market due to the restricted nature of arms exports. I'd even go so far as to say that the anemic defense spending in Europe, the "peace dividend" helped enable this conflict by refusing to establish credible European deterrence and outsourcing defense needs to the United States and NATO. The genie is out of the bottle, increased defense spending will continue until the destabilizing factor is resolved. So that doesn't make sense from a policy standpoint, but it does make sense if you want to paint aid to Ukraine as a doomed endeavor. There's also a psychological component, fear that the hawks and defense contractors hold the moral high ground, which has honestly been hilarious.
So no, I don't really see any merit to their proposals. Many are firmly rooted in disinformation like "Donbas genocide" or "NATO expansion," and don't hold up when scrutinized. But if there's an actual serious dovish proposal that isn't like the others, please let me know.
Thanks for the question, Cle.

9: Bedside Manner
being a private medic for an elite mercenary team is stressful. rumor has it that there's a mutually beneficial way to blow off some steam.
->explicit. contains dubcon, gore, medical, threesome (kind of), workplace fraternization, D/s dynamic, verbal degradation.
.
.
.
It’s four in the morning and you’re camped out in the breakroom with all the other unlucky medics, huddled around the coffee machine like it’s a bonfire in a blizzard. The hum of fluorescent lighting is seared into your brain. You make smalltalk, complain about protocol and office decor and that bullshit at the last personnel meeting. It’s all ritual, everything stale and the same as it ever was. This is the worst part of your job and it’s nice to commiserate.
“It’s bioweapons,” Ward says, his nose wrinkling in distaste. “Myers told me. His unit did cleanup for the same company a little while back and it was gnarly, like something out of Alien. That’s why it’s taking so long.”
Dunn raises a brow. “Really? Mission Control hasn’t said anything.”
“Mission Control’s probably got their hands full. And it’s all the same ‘need to know’ restrictions as usual, I’m sure.”
“That’s bullshit,” Kauffman says. “Why wouldn’t we need to know? Do we need to prep the quarantine bay or not?”
You fidget nervously, picking lint from your blue scrubs. There’s a stylized three-leaf clover emblazoned on the pocket, Trefoil International’s innocuous company logo. You’re new and it shows. Everyone else is a groggy mix of irritated and bitterly amused, but you can’t stop pacing, drumming your fingers against the side of your coffee cup.
“This your first delayed arrival?” someone asks. “Relax, newbie. There’s plenty of mercs in the sea. They’ll replace anybody who doesn’t make it back.”
“Don’t be a jackass,” Kauffman says. “There’s nothing wrong with giving a shit. I’m worried about my boys, too.”
Ward frowns, looking distinctly disgusted. “We’re not all fucking our units, Kauffman.”
“You’re missing out, then.”
The conversation goes on like nobody said anything mildly inappropriate and you’re still gawking at Kauffman’s shameless smile and nonchalance. A shrill tone plays over the intercom to signify a coming announcement and you all flinch, listening for familiar names and numbers. “Unit 030 is en route to Medbay A-2,” Mission Control says. Ward mutters a curse that sounds strangely relieved and rushes out of the room.
“Was he serious, just now?” you ask. You can’t help yourself. You’re high-strung and curious, and for just a second, you’re not consumed with fear thinking about your unit in some top secret lab or underground bunker or wherever the fuck the bioweapons people have a mess that needs erasing. “You’re, uh…involved with your unit?”
“Plenty of us are,” Kauffman says.
“Not plenty,” someone says. “Just you and a few other degenerates.”
Kauffman rolls her eyes and works her way across the huddle to stand next to you, slinging an arm over your shoulder. “Listen,” she says, “it’s a mutually beneficial arrangement. They’re stuck in the barracks most of the time, we’re stuck in the office or the medbay, nobody’s got time to date or hook up. The solution’s obvious, I think.”
“They’re like animals, Kauffman. Why would you want to get into bed with that?”
The intercom chimes again. “Unit 087 is en route to the Medbay C-1.”
You just about spill your coffee all over yourself in your hurry to drain the cup and toss it in the trash. The other medics wish you luck as you rush. Kauffman winks.
Bland office walls and carpet shift to harsh, hospital white, your footsteps echoing down a metal corridor. Mission Control sends a heavily redacted debrief document to your tablet that you read while you walk. Bioweapons, just like Ward said, something hypercontagious and horrific. A failure to follow protocol led to some experimental nightmare getting loose. You skim what few details you’re permitted. It doesn’t really matter what happened, because none of it’s going public. The company hired Trefoil and just like that, an entire research center has been expunged from existence, no survivors and no witnesses left.
C-1 is an observation ward. Soft quarantine, nothing more than a mask and gloves required. Your operatives have been through decontamination and viral screening already, cleared as uninfected. Whatever awful thing they were hired to clean up was potent, showing symptoms within thirty minutes of exposure. You’ll be stuck in there with them for an hour just to be safe. You swipe your employee ID, give a retinal scan, and the door locks behind you.
Your eyes hone in on bare, bandaged skin. Vulture’s sitting up on a cot, stripped out of his black fatigues with only crumpled bedsheets covering his lower half. You’re his medic. You’ve seen him naked before. But Kauffman’s voice drifts through your thoughts and it’s like you’re seeing his strong biceps and scarred, chiseled abdomen for the first time all over again. He’s hunched over, clutching a bloodied rag to a wound in his shoulder. Short hair, early growth out of a military buzzcut, is mussed and sweaty from hours spent in a helmet. Hawk’s sitting next to him in a little plastic chair, still covered head to toe in tactical gear, and they’re talking quietly. His voice is muffled and his face is hidden by a full respirator mask.
When you step into the room, they both go silent and turn towards you, like dogs sensing an intruder. You can’t see Hawk’s eyes, but you’re sure he’s looking at you with the same cold appraisal Vulture is, the way they look at anything that moves.
“Welcome back,” you say. You make sure your movements are obvious and audible. Some operatives are a little jumpy fresh out of the field. “Glad to see you’re in one piece, more or less.”
Vulture doesn’t quite laugh, just exhales sharply. His respirator’s sitting on the bedside table, freckled with dried blood. “Were you worried about me, doc?” he asks, smirking. He’s mumbling a little, probably loaded up with painkillers. “Cute.”
“I wasn’t worried at all. I know you’re perfectly capable.” You wheel a surgical cart out of the corner and grab the essentials. Pen light, forceps, needles and sutures. Vulture lowers the rag and you see a tunneling wound, the glint of shrapnel lodged deep in brutalized tissue. Hawk scoots his chair over, giving you room to work. “You don’t look injured, Hawk,” you say absently. “Here for moral support?”
You swear he’s staring at you under his mask. “Something like that,” he says. His low, gravelly voice does something embarrassing to you. He’s the older and more experienced of the two. You’ve never seen him except for a single routine checkup, and he hardly said a word the whole time but you felt his gaze burning into you every time you turned around.
“Well, you know the drill. I’m sure they asked you all of this at exfil, but I have to do it again. Did either of you get bitten in the field?”
“Nah,” Vulture says. Hawk shakes his head.
“Any suit breaches?”
“No. We’re good, doc. Already went through screening.”
You run through the whole checklist of symptoms anyway. It helps, gives him something else to think about while you pluck debris what out of his shoulder, sopping up blood and pus with a disinfecting wipe. Vulture is a professional and handles it well. You only have to stop once when he hisses, clenching his fists, before nodding and letting you continue. “I’ve seen you in worse shape, honestly,” you tell him. “You’ll need some time off but it’s not too serious.”
Vulture whines about it like you told him he needs an amputation. “I barely even feel it. Can’t you just clear me? I’m already confined to the barracks for a week for observation, I don’t wanna get stuck with bed rest, too.” His squirming shifts the sheets in his lap just a bit. You see the V of his hips, thick pubic curls, and—
“Vulture,” Hawk says. “Shut up.”
“You’d give a shit if it was you,” Vulture grumbles. “030’s going barhopping this weekend. I haven’t gotten laid in fucking forever.”
You’re new, but you’re not an amateur. Your hands don’t shake, even with the jolt Vulture’s low, rumbling words give you. What does he even look like in civilian clothes? You have no idea. It’s hard to picture him at a bar or a club, anywhere normal people go. Anything he wears would be tight, right? He’s huge and every inch of him has been honed to lethality, quick reflexes, dexterous fingers, the strength to kill a guy unarmed. “If 030 came back from the same place today, they’re not going anywhere, either,” you say. Boldly, you add, “So I guess nobody’s getting laid this weekend.”
Neither of them say a word, but you feel them looking at you. They’re not expecting something, are they? Waiting for you to volunteer, maybe? You take a deep breath and focus, tossing another tinkling, bloody shard into a tin on the surgical table. Almost done. Just need to get him stitched up, and—
“They’re getting laid,” Hawk says casually. “Passing around their medic right now, probably.”
He’s bullshitting for sure, trying to get a rise out of you. They do it less and less these days, but when you were brand new, they’d do it all the time. Little jabs, threats, a few quips about previous sexual conquests, just to see how you’d react. This is more of that, you’re sure of it, because Ward? Seriously? Crotchety, uptight Ward with his perpetual scowl and constant snide remarks about his own operatives?
But normally Vulture’s face would give it away, and he’s not twisting up trying to hide a smirk. He looks genuinely frustrated. He leans back a little bit and the sheets fall a little further down, and you quickly avert your eyes. You’re a professional. You’re not going to stare at his cock, even though it’s right fucking there and he was just lamenting the fact that he hasn’t fucked in a while, and now you’re thinking about what his dick looks like in his hand late at night when no one’s around.
“We were just talking about that earlier, actually,” you say, and now they’re both openly staring. “Medics and their units, I mean. I’m pretty sure Ward’s not the type.”
“He’s not the type to admit it,” Vulture corrects. He sits up a little straighter when you start pulling the suture through his skin and the sheet’s useless now, bunched up in the corner by his feet. He’s thick and uncut and—shit, he definitely caught you looking this time, because his eyes narrow and there’s that little, sneaky smile you’re used to seeing. “That’s funny, though. I didn’t know the medics gossip about it, too. What do you think about it, doc?”
“What do I think about what, exactly?”
“About being a cumdump for your unit.”
He doesn’t notice that you shiver, does he? You swallow hard and look only at his chest, which doesn’t help all that much. “I think that’s highly inappropriate,” you say, narrowly avoiding a nervous stammer. Just get it over with. Push the needle in, slip it out, pull the stitching through. You think, with a flare of emotion you don’t care to examine, that you’re still not off the hook even after closing the wound. You’re stuck in soft quarantine for an hour. You put your tools away with stiff, mechanical movements, half aware of what you’re doing. You’re suddenly nervous to turn your backs to either of them.
“So if I asked you to ride me, you’d say no?” Vulture asks.
You’re not sure how he says this kind of brazen bullshit with such earnestness. You stall, give yourself time to put the surgical cart away and stay at the edge of the room. Vulture leers at you and Hawk probably does, too. Just say no, you tell yourself. Shut this down before it goes any further. This is some new game they’re playing, just another way to shock you. So why are there nervous, excited flutters in your stomach? “You shouldn’t be doing anything strenuous right now,” you say. You feel a little lightheaded. You’re not enjoying this, are you?
“Killjoy,” Vulture says. “Suck my cock instead, then.”
You take another deep breath. Okay. Reality check. These two are career mercenaries. Wetwork experts. They clean up massive corporate fuckups and kill people for a living. And they’ve made comments about mysterious workplace accidents that might’ve happened to previous handlers and medics, things that you still aren’t sure are jokes. This is just asking for trouble. This is a huge fucking mistake.
“You’re interested,” Hawk says. “We wouldn’t be asking otherwise.”
Deny it, your rational mind screams. You don’t know where your filter went this morning—shriveled with every passing hour and cup of coffee, probably—but instead, you ask, “What makes you say that?”
You wish he’d take his mask off. You want to know if you’re just imagining the weight of his gaze, the heat of it. He shifts in his seat, spreading his legs a little further apart and your gaze is drawn naturally downward. You can’t see anything. His fatigues are too baggy. But the gesture is unmistakably inviting, like he wants you there, kneeling in the space between. “We just know,” is all he says. Vulture’s gaze rakes up and down your figure and his cock twitches.
“Come here, doc” he asks, licking his lips. He wraps his fingers loosely around his cock and gives it several slow pumps. “You’ve been staring at it the whole time. Come see how it tastes. Nobody’s gotta know.”
The command is what breaks you. They’re different like this. There’s a lazy grace to how the operatives move around headquarters, like satiated jaguars. You see that flash of danger, the shape of a thing that kills to live, but it’s always weak and untargeted. This is different. They’re focused and hunting just like they would in the field, and you’re prey. Your pulse picks up and you’d be lying to yourself if you said you hadn’t thought about this, even before Kauffman’s pointed comments. You had fantasies about your unit, these dangerous, unreadable men, cornering you in some dark hallway and doing whatever they wanted with you. You’re distantly aware of your body moving, your feet carrying you back to Vulture’s bedside. He smiles, reclining, looking you in the eye while he strokes himself. He’s half-hard and a lot bigger than before.
“Is that what you want, doc?” he asks. “You wanna sit back and let someone else call the shots?”
Hawk’s firm, gloved hand falls on your shoulder and you’re pushed down to your knees. They’re completely in sync with one another’s movements, shifting around you, closing you in between their bodies. Vulture swings his legs over the edge of the bed and you bite back a reprimand, wanting to tell him to be careful, mind his injury, when you feel Hawk’s presence behind you. No longer seated, he looms over you, his hand on the back of your head. They’ve barely touched you, just pushed you around a bit, but you feel dizzy with need. Hawk tugs on your hair and you wince, a little gasp slipping out, and Vulture shoves himself into your mouth. You could fight, push him away, bite him.
You don’t. With arousal heating the pit of your stomach, you rest your hands on his thighs. It feels unreal, and yet completely right. His half-lidded gaze brightens with amusement when you start to kiss and suck his tip.
“You owe me fifty bucks,” Hawk says. Leather creaks as his gloved fingers sink into your scalp and massage your scalp, a soothing motion that makes you lean in more, open your mouth even wider.
“Never been so glad to be wrong,” Vulture groans. He bucks into your throat when you swirl your tongue around his length. “Been a while for you, too, doc? You starved for cock? Don’t worry. Gonna fix that.”
Hawk digs his fingers in, pushing you onto Vulture. You grunt when he goes too far and you choke, squeezing Vulture’s thighs, but he doesn’t let up. “Breathe through your nose,” he murmurs. That unrelenting pressure stays until you follow his orders and Vulture lets out a pleased sigh at the flutter of your throat around his length. It’s easy now, past the point of no return. You don’t think about the embarrassment, the unprofessionalism of it. You just bob your head and slide your lips up and down Vulture’s thick shaft, and everything is good and simple.
“Hawk knew before any of us,” Vulture tells you. “Made a bet with the whole unit that we’d finally gotten a medic up for some fun. You had me fooled, though. Thought I’d just have to jack off thinking about what you look like under those scrubs forever.” He’s fully hard and throbbing, the salty taste of precum heavy on your tongue. He fucks your mouth with easy dominance like this is the natural order of things. Hawk’s presence behind you is like a wall with eyes, an unfeeling, unblinking barrier that keeps you in your place.
“I know medics,” Hawk says. “Gone through plenty.” The pressure lets up and he’s stroking you, carding his hand through your hair. “First time I saw you, I knew. You’re a perfect fit for us.”
Vulture starts moving his hips and Hawk pushes onto every thrust. It starts slow but not gentle. They don’t handle you like you’re made of glass. The languid pace is all that helps you adjust to Vulture filling your throat and bumping up against your gag reflex every time. Caught up in the moment, you reach down to touch yourself.
Hawk makes you take Vulture to the root, your nose buried against his pelvis. You smell him, a musk of sweat, dried blood and antiseptic. “Hands off,” Hawk says. The words are a harsh growl and you obey with a full body shiver.
“Don’t let ‘em up,” Vulture says. He adjusts slightly, pushes himself to the very edge of the bed to give himself some leverage. Hawk holds you still through all of it, smothering your face into Vulture’s abdomen until you’re squirming and whimpering around a mouthful of cock. “You’re pretty like that, doc. You like it? Being my personal cocksleeve?”
You don’t have the capacity to answer. You just stare up at him, eyes hazy and pricked with tears. Vulture laughs and then Hawk’s hand on your scalp is suddenly gone, replaced by Vulture’s on either side of your head. You hear movement behind you and then Hawk is crouching, right there against your back, the filter of his mask resting on your shoulder. You can hear him breathing. You can feel the hard edges of his tactical gear, pouches of ammo and god knows, what digging into your back. Vulture holds you in place as he starts hammering into your mouth and Hawk starts to speak in a low, steady voice.
“Let him use you,” he murmurs. “Relax your throat. Breathe through your nose. Look up. See how good you’re making him feel.” You obey every order, filled with heat and distant pangs of shame from the obscene sounds of Vulture’s cock pounding your throat. It hurts a little, your jaw sore and your knees getting bruised on the hard floor, but the pain is a faraway, forgotten thought when you see Vulture looking utterly wrecked above you. A bead of sweat slides down the side of his neck, face pinched with exertion, lips parted and moans shamelessly spilling out. Saliva and precum dribbles past your lips and adds a wet sloppiness to the sound of his hips slapping your face.
“Gonna cum,” Vulture says.
There’s a hand in your hair again, giving a threatening tug. “You’re going to swallow,” Hawk tells you, and you’re overcome with a frantic sort of euphoria, desperate to follow the command. “Don’t think. Just listen, and suck, and swallow. You’re just a hole that takes cock and cum. That’s all you have to be right now.”
You do everything he says. You listen to him, his voice, Vulture above you. You hear yourself gagging on spit and precum and every inch of hot, throbbing flesh pistoning into your mouth. You suck. You don’t worry about moving, or thinking, or anything else, because they decide everything for you. Vulture holds you in place and uses you, rides the wave of his pleasure until he’s straining, hips stuttering, and it feels so good.
When he cums, your name slips between his teeth. You’re not ready for the sudden rush of cum pumping into your throat and you struggle with it, your nails digging into the meat of his thighs. But you swallow. You almost gag, almost throw it back up, but you force yourself to stop and try again. You don’t want to let them down. Vulture watches you with glazed, lust-filled eyes and blown pupils, muttering an awed, “Goddamn, doc,” as the last bulging swallow goes down.
When they let you go, you’re trembling. Your skin is prickling and hot, your head spinning, your neglected sex pulsing with arousal. Vulture wipes a smear of cum from the corner of your lips with his thumb and then he gets back in bed like nothing happened, pulling the covers back over himself. Hawk saunters back to his chair. You touch your mouth with shaking fingers.
“Thanks for patching me up, doc,” Vulture says.
You nod numbly. You don’t know what else to do. You have to hold onto the bed to pick yourself up, the weight of what you just did suddenly crushing. Was that a mistake? Are they going to pretend it never happened? You’ve got at least half an hour until you can get out of this room. You don’t think you could bear it if they were just fucking with you.
“Doc,” Vulture says. You wouldn’t call his tone gentle, but it’s not the usual, abrasive bravado, either. “We’re not gonna tell anyone, alright? We shoot the shit with each other, yeah, but the other medics aren’t gonna know, if that’s what you’re worried about.”
“I wasn’t…” You don’t even know how to finish the thought, suddenly overwhelmed with humiliation. “Look, just…if that was just hazing or something, then—”
“Come by the barracks tonight,” Hawk says. You heart skips a beat. “If you want,” he drawls, and you get the distinct impression you’re being teased. You stammer out a half-excuse, trying not to sound too eager. They’ve probably given you a mountain of paperwork, medical reports to fill out, bedrest mandates and field ready certifications to sign.
“Maybe,” you say, “after I’m done with all that…”
Half an hour passes quickly in companionable silence. You draw blood, check their vitals, fill out some of the preliminary paperwork on your tablet. The door lets out a beep and the autolock clicks out of place. You linger for just a second, looking back over your shoulder at Hawk’s steady gaze.
“See you tonight,” he says, just as the door shuts.

The Conversation: The importance of shining a light on hidden toxic histories
Indianapolis proudly claims Elvis’ last concert, Robert Kennedy’s speech in response to Martin Luther King Jr.’s assassination, and the Indianapolis 500. There’s a 9/11 memorial, a Medal of Honor Memorial and a statue of former NFL quarterback Peyton Manning.
What few locals know, let alone tourists, is that the city also houses one of the largest dry cleaning Superfund sites in the U.S.
From 1952 to 2008, Tuchman Cleaners laundered clothes using perchloroethylene, or PERC, a neurotoxin and possible carcinogen. Tuchman operated a chain of cleaners throughout the city, which sent clothes to a facility on Keystone Avenue for cleaning. It was also the location where used solution was stored in underground tanks.
Inspectors noted the presence of volatile organic compounds from leaking tanks and possible spills as early as 1989. By 1994, an underground plume had spread to a nearby aquifer. By the time the EPA became involved in 2011, the underground chemical plume had seeped more than a mile underneath a residential area, reaching a well that supplies drinking water to the city.
When geographer Owen Dwyer, earth scientist Gabe Filippelli and I investigated and wrote about the social and environmental history of dry cleaning in Indianapolis, we were struck by how few people outside of the dry cleaning and environmental management fields were aware of this environmental damage.
There are no markers or memorials. There is no mention of it – or any other accounts of contamination – in Indianapolis’ many museums. This kind of silence has been called “environmental amnesia” or “collective forgetting.”
Societies celebrate heroes and commemorate tragedies. But where in public memory is environmental harm? What if people thought about it not only as a science or policy problem, but also as a part of history? Would it make a difference if pollution, along with biodiversity loss and climate change, was seen as part of our shared heritage?
The slow violence of contamination
Environmental harm often takes place gradually and out of sight, and this could be one reason why there’s so little public conversation and commemoration. In 2011, Princeton English professor Rob Nixon came up with a term for this kind of environmental degradation: slow violence.
As underground storage tanks leak, shipwrecks corrode, coal ash ponds seep and forever chemicals spread, the creeping pace of poisoned soil and water fails to garner the attention that more dramatic environmental disasters attract.
Tumblr media
Certain interests benefit from hiding the costs of pollution and its remediation. Sociologists Scott Frickel and James R. Elliott have studied urban pollution, and they highlight three reasons for its pervasiveness and persistence.
First, in cities, small factories, auto repair shops, dry cleaners and other light industries sometimes only stay open for a decade or two, making it challenging to regulate them and track their environmental impacts over time. By the time contamination is discovered, many facilities have long been shuttered or purchased by new owners. And the polluters have a direct financial interest in not being connected with it, since they could be held liable and forced to pay for cleanup.
Similarly, urban neighborhoods tend to have shifting demographics, and local residents are often not aware of historical pollution.
Finally, it can simply be politically expedient to look the other way and ignore the consequences of pollution. Cities may be concerned that publicizing toxic histories discourage investment and depress property values, and politicians are hesitant to fund projects that may have a long-term benefit but short-term costs. Indianapolis, for example, tried for decades to avoid mitigating the raw sewage flowing into the White River and Fall Creek, arguing it was too expensive to deal with. Only when required by a consent decree did the city start to address the problem.
Toxic legacies are also difficult to track because their effects may be hidden by distance and time. Anthropologist Peter Little traced the outsourcing of electronics waste recycling, which is shipped from the places where electronics are bought and used, to countries such as Ghana, where labor is cheap and environmental regulations lax.
Then there are the toxic traces of military conflicts, which linger long after the fighting has stopped and troops have returned home. Historian and geologist Daniel Hubé has documented the long-term environmental impact of World War I munitions.
At the end of the war, unused and unexploded bombs and chemical weapons had to be disposed of. In France, at a site known as Place à Gaz, hundreds of thousands of chemical weapons were burned. Today, the soils have been found to have extraordinarily high levels of arsenic and other heavy metals.
More than a century after the end of the war, little grows on the contaminated, barren land.
Toxic tours and teaching moments
There’s a growing movement to make toxic histories more visible.
In Providence, Rhode Island, artist Holly Ewald founded the Urban Pond Procession to call attention to Mashapaug Pond, which was contaminated by a Gorham Silver factory. She worked with community partners to create wearable sculptures, puppets and giant fish, all of which were carried and worn in an annual parade that took place from 2008 to 2017.
Cultural anthropologist Amelia Fiske collaborated with artist Jonas Fischer to create the graphic novel “Tóxico,” which will be published in 2024. It depicts petroleum pollution in the Ecuadorian Amazon, as well as the struggles of those fighting for environmental justice.
Toxic tours can educate the public about the histories, causes and consequences of environmental harm. For example, Ironbound Community Corporation in Newark, New Jersey, offers a tour of severely contaminated sites, such as the location of the former Agent Orange factory, where the sediment in the sludge is laced with the carcinogen dioxin. The tour also goes by a detention center that’s built on a brownfield, which has only undergone industrial-level remediation because that’s the standard all prisons are held to.
In 2017, the Humanities Action Lab organized “Climates of Inequality,” a traveling exhibit co-curated by more than 20 universities and local partners exploring environmental issues affecting communities around the world. The exhibit brings attention to polluted waterways, the impacts of climate change, ecological damage on Indigenous lands and the ways in which immigrant agricultural workers experience heat stress and chronic pesticide exposure. The exhibits also explore the affected communities’ resilience and advocacy.
These stories of pollution and contamination, and their effects on people’s health and livelihoods, represent only a sampling of current efforts to curate toxic heritage. As sociologist Alice Mah writes in her foreword to “Toxic Heritage”: “Reckoning with toxic heritage is an urgent collective task. It is also unsettling work. It requires confronting painful truths about the roots of toxic injustice with courage, honesty, and humility.”
I see public commemoration of hidden toxic histories as a way to push back against denial, habituation and amnesia. It creates a space for public conversation, and it opens up possibilities for a more just and sustainable future.

Can UN Certified Bags Really Help the Environment?
As global concerns about environmental sustainability continue to grow, the importance of responsible packaging materials has never been more pronounced. Among these materials, UN certified bags have emerged as a significant option for industries handling hazardous materials. This article will delve into the role of UN certified bags in promoting environmental sustainability, their benefits, and the responsibilities of UN certified bags manufacturers and suppliers in ensuring eco-friendly practices.
Understanding UN Certified Bags
UN certified bags are specifically made carrying bags that have been authorized by the UN for the secure transportation of dangerous goods. These bags comply with strict international regulations and standards aimed at minimizing risks associated with the transportation of dangerous goods. The certification indicates that the bags have been tested for their ability to withstand various stresses during transport, including pressure, temperature fluctuations, and impacts.
What Does "UN Approved" Mean?
The term "UN approved" refers to packaging that meets the standards set forth by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) for the safe transport of dangerous goods. UN approved bags must undergo rigorous testing to ensure it can contain hazardous materials without leakage or rupture, protecting both the environment and human health.
Environmental Impact of Hazardous Materials
Hazardous materials pose significant risks to the environment if not handled and disposed of properly. Spills or leaks during transportation can lead to soil and water contamination, harming ecosystems and communities. This underscores the need for reliable packaging solutions that minimize these risks.
The Role of UN Certified Bags in Hazardous Material Transport
Using UN certified bags helps mitigate environmental risks associated with hazardous materials in several ways:
Safety and Compliance: UN certified bags are designed to meet stringent safety standards, ensuring that hazardous materials are contained securely during transport. This reduces the likelihood of spills or leaks that could harm the environment.

Top Reasons to Choose Daily Dumpster Rentals for Your Next Cleanup
When undertaking a significant cleanup project, whether it’s a home renovation, large-scale landscaping, or a commercial construction job, managing waste efficiently is crucial. One of the most effective solutions for handling substantial amounts of debris and waste is opting for daily dumpster rentals. Here’s why choosing daily dumpster rentals can make a significant difference in your next cleanup effort.
Enhanced Flexibility and Convenience
Daily dumpster rentals offer unparalleled flexibility compared to one-time or less frequent rental options. The primary advantage of a daily rental is the convenience it provides, allowing you to manage waste on your schedule. This is especially beneficial for ongoing projects where waste accumulates gradually over time. With daily rentals, you can ensure that the dumpster is emptied and replaced regularly, preventing any overflow or delay in the cleanup process.
Flexibility extends to your project timeline as well. If your cleanup project encounters unexpected delays or requires additional time, daily rentals can be adjusted to fit your new schedule. This adaptability helps keep the project on track and minimises disruptions.
Prevention of Overflows and Safety Hazards
One of the biggest challenges during a cleanup is managing the volume of waste. Overfilled dumpsters can lead to dangerous conditions such as sharp objects spilling out, hazardous materials becoming exposed, or even potential fines for exceeding weight limits. Daily dumpster rentals mitigate these risks by ensuring that your dumpster is emptied regularly, thus avoiding overflows and maintaining a safer work environment.
Regularly emptied dumpsters also help in keeping the area around your site clean and organised. A clutter-free workspace not only enhances safety but also improves overall efficiency, allowing workers to focus on the task at hand without the distraction of overflowing waste.
Cost-Effective Waste Management
While it may seem counter intuitive, opting for daily dumpster rentals can be more cost-effective in the long run. By choosing a daily dumpster rental service, you avoid the potential extra costs associated with emergency waste removal or the inconvenience of having to manage excessive waste yourself. Additionally, daily rentals often include waste management services in the rental fee, such as transportation and disposal, which can save you from incurring separate fees for these services.
Moreover, by maintaining a regular schedule of waste removal, you can prevent the accumulation of waste that might otherwise lead to additional charges or penalties for overloading. The efficiency of daily rentals ensures that waste is managed effectively, reducing the risk of unexpected costs.
Environmental Responsibility
Proper waste management is essential for minimising environmental impact. By choosing daily dumpster rentals, you contribute to responsible waste disposal practices. Frequent waste removal helps ensure that recyclables are separated and disposed of correctly, reducing the amount of waste that ends up in landfills.
Many dumpster rental companies are committed to environmentally friendly practices, including recycling and proper disposal methods. By opting for daily rentals, you support these efforts and help ensure that your waste is managed in an environmentally responsible manner.
Improved Project Efficiency
A well-managed waste disposal system can significantly enhance the efficiency of your cleanup project. Daily dumpster rentals streamline the process by ensuring that waste is removed promptly and regularly. This prevents work stoppages and delays caused by overflowing or inaccessible dumpsters.
Furthermore, a clean and organised site contributes to overall project efficiency. Workers can move more freely and safely without navigating around large piles of debris. This improved workflow can lead to faster project completion and higher productivity.
Conclusion
Daily dumpster rentals offer numerous benefits for managing waste during your next cleanup project. The enhanced flexibility, prevention of overflows, cost-effectiveness, environmental responsibility, and improved project efficiency make daily rentals a superior choice for handling significant amounts of waste. By choosing daily dumpster rentals services in Taylor, you ensure that your project runs smoothly, safely, and efficiently, allowing you to focus on the task at hand without the added stress of waste management.
Incorporating daily dumpster rentals into your cleanup strategy not only simplifies the waste disposal process but also supports a cleaner and more organised work environment. So, the next time you’re planning a major cleanup, consider the advantages of daily dumpster rentals for a more efficient and effective waste management solution.

How to Clean Up Bird Seed on the Ground: A Step-by-Step Guide
Feeding birds in your backyard can be a delightful activity, but the mess that bird seeds leave behind can be less enjoyable. Spilled bird seed on the ground can attract unwanted pests, cause mold growth, and create an unsightly mess. Regular cleanup not only keeps your yard tidy but also ensures a healthier environment for your feathered friends.
Tumblr media
Here's how you can efficiently clean up bird seed on the ground and maintain a pristine bird-feeding area.
1. Prevent Spillage in the First Place
Before jumping into the cleanup process, it's important to minimize how much seed falls to the ground in the first place.
Tips to Reduce Bird Seed Spills:
Choose a Seed Tray: Attach a seed-catching tray beneath your bird feeder to catch falling seeds. This keeps the ground cleaner and prevents waste.
Use a No-Waste Seed Mix: Opt for hulled seeds or blends that birds fully consume, leaving fewer husks and leftovers.
Proper Feeder Placement: Place feeders over a patio or deck, which are easier to sweep and maintain compared to grass or soil.
2. Regularly Sweep or Rake the Ground
Consistency is key to keeping bird seed messes under control.
Tools You’ll Need:
Broom or Rake: Use a stiff broom for patios or a rake for grassy areas to gather seeds and debris.
Dustpan: Collect the swept seed easily for disposal or composting.
Leaf Blower (Optional): For larger areas, a leaf blower can quickly gather scattered seeds into one pile for easier cleanup.
Steps to Follow:
Sweep or rake daily: Regular sweeping prevents seed from mixing with dirt or getting buried in the soil.
Bag the seeds and debris: Collect the seeds and dispose of them in a compost bin or trash. Avoid leaving them out as they may attract rodents or insects.
3. Vacuum or Power Wash Hard Surfaces
For bird feeders placed on patios, decks, or other hard surfaces, vacuuming or power washing is an effective cleaning solution.
How to Clean Hard Surfaces:
Vacuuming: Use a shop vacuum to suck up scattered seeds and other fine debris. This method is particularly useful if the area is too large to sweep by hand.
Power Washing: Occasionally power wash your patio or deck to eliminate any seeds stuck in cracks and to remove mold or mildew that can result from decaying seed.
4. Use a Bird Seed Mat
For grass or garden areas, using a seed mat can significantly reduce cleanup efforts.
Benefits of a Bird Seed Mat:
Catches Falling Seeds: The mat traps spilled seeds, preventing them from mixing into the soil.
Easy to Clean: Just shake out or hose down the mat to remove accumulated seed. This reduces the time spent raking and picking up seeds by hand.
5. Remove Moldy or Spoiled Seeds
If bird seed is left on the ground for too long, especially in damp weather, it can become moldy. Moldy seeds pose a health risk to birds and can spread diseases.
How to Handle Moldy Seeds:
Inspect Regularly: Check the feeding area for signs of mold or spoilage.
Discard Safely: Carefully scoop up moldy seeds using gloves and dispose of them in a sealed trash bag to prevent further contamination.
6. Consider Using Ground Feeders
If you prefer not to suspend feeders, ground feeders are a great alternative.
How Ground Feeders Help:
Easier Cleanup: Ground feeders are usually portable and can be moved around, making it easier to control seed spillage.
Easy to Empty: Simply dump out the seed tray, rinse it off, and refill without worrying about seed scattering everywhere.
7. Keep Pests Away
Rodents, such as mice and squirrels, are attracted to bird seed on the ground. Cleaning up regularly helps discourage these pests.
Pest Prevention Tips:
Remove Food Sources: Clean up seeds immediately after feeding time to reduce the chance of attracting unwanted visitors.
Install a Baffle: Use baffles to prevent rodents from climbing to the bird feeder in the first place.
Natural Deterrents: Consider using natural deterrents like cayenne pepper in your bird seed mix—birds are unaffected, but rodents will avoid it.
Final Thoughts
Keeping bird seed off the ground is not only about aesthetics but also about creating a healthier, more enjoyable feeding environment. By following these simple steps and incorporating preventive measures, you can maintain a clean and pest-free backyard while still enjoying the sights and sounds of your favorite birds.
