« Ce qui arrive ici (15 novembre 1976, victoire du Parti Québécois) est un peu comme l’élection d’Allende au Chili. C’est une victoire de la vie contre la mort. Une victoire du bonheur sur la misère. Une victoire du petit contre le gros. Une victoire de l’homme contre la barbarie. Ce qui survient ici est le retour de la vie après 200 ans de mort. C’est très important pour l’humanité. Partout dans le monde, de tous les temps, lorsqu’un peuple ou une espèce meurt, l’humanité perd une culture, perd sa richesse, perd de précieuses différences, perd des années et des années d’expérience. Ce qui arrive ici c’est un peuple, un petit peuple, qui refuse de mourir. Se battant pour la vie. C’est très beau. Ce n’est pas terminé, ça fait juste commencer. Nous avons gagné une bataille, mais nous n’avons pas gagné la guerre. La lutte sera difficile, très difficile et longue. Toutes les forces qui souhaitent notre mort sont puissantes, très puissantes. Elles ne nous donneront rien. Nous aurons à le prendre par toutes les façons, y compris les films, y compris l’art. Mais nous gagnerons. Il est certain que nous gagnerons. »
