The primary caregiver and the pediatrician of an autistic child are the two main agents who are responsible for providing comfort and treatment to the child. A deep connection and understanding between the two is one of the primary requirements for the well-being of a child with ASD (Autistic Spectrum Disorder). Now, given the fact that the primary caregiver of the child is mostly their parent, they are obviously deeply invested in the child. Which is why, the more difficult part of the equation is to find an equally invested and caring pediatrician.

At some point in life, children may experience learning difficulties, which isn’t surprising. These obstacles are temporary and little support, guidance, and encouragement either from school or home can help them overcome the situation. The term ‘special needs’ describe a range of diagnoses, right from mild to those that can stay a challenge for life. Special needs children may have medical conditions, developmental delays, or psychiatric conditions. Learning or performing other activities could be tough for children with such disabilities. Several conditions fall under the special needs umbrella, such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), dyslexia, blindness, cystic fibrosis, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, and others. An experienced special needs pediatrician provides quality and consistent medical care by educating the parents and helping the children. Children with special needs are likely to require extra help from other children of the same age. There may be a need to keep an eye on these children every day if the condition intensifies.

COVID-19 has upended everything that was previously accepted as a given. But one of the common mistakes that most people make while judging the effects of COVID-19 is that they only take the adult perspective into account. Adults have indeed been subjected to immense stress and isolation. But at least we were able to understand why such restrictions were being imposed on us in the first place. Children, unfortunately, we’re not privy to this in-depth understanding of this sudden imprisonment in their homes.
