Found you're writing really good šš and now you're my next target šš How do you think gun would react finding someone 100x times beautiful from crystal with great body anddddddd ššš is strong like ui daniel but is not quite rich and lives a normal life working at a part time cafe ??? š®š®š® lordddd š¤š¤ the reaction would be priceless, please do it š„²
Gun Park (Park Jonggun x Female Reader!) short story
A/N: Hello fellow human! Sorry if I ever replied back REALLY LATE. I'll still make Lookism x reader content, but I'm really busy rn so sorry if this felt rushed (and I have a periodical exams to take in Wedensday oof). Genre: fluff? Warnings: mild cursing and mentions of mafia activities (unedited)
Gun isn't exactly the type to easily fall in love, even impressing him alone without trying hard is challenging by itself as many successors, enemies, and other people tried to show their all to the Shiro Oni. But every blood, sweat, and tears were wasted just trying to lay a finger by the unstoppable man, if they would even call him one.
And it is also just a normal day for everyone, people in the city are either spending their money off by their personal plans or continue on with their daily lives. Other women were having their shopping galore either with their friends or alone with quite noticeable make-up plastered on their face yet making their face sparkle up with the cosmetics. Ulzzangs posting their new selfies getting tons, if not millions of likes and social media users having a debate who's prettier or more attractive. Students were stressing out with their school activities or gossip drama with the adults wanting to slack off and get a chug of beer after a long day of their shifts or just take a long nap like a lazy cat with their eyebags being dark and hollow like a panda.
And to most people, you're just an ordinary woman living her life in the crowded city of Seoul. You wouldn't exactly call it the best life ever, but you were somehow thankful to make it this far after long days of shifts and even sometimes working on Holidays even if you want to have a sip of your own coffee at your own place. You're already a functional and working adult yet you sometimes miss your home despite you and your family having your own personal problems. Yet you continue to strive not only for them but mostly for yourself. If it weren't for some men forcing you to have a chat with you by offering their numbers quite rudely, you might even have better days without them putting you into situations you don't even want to experience just because you were considered beautiful.
It was already five in the afternoon, yet you're still there at the cafe doing your duties as a barista and a waitress. The place will be quite silent, almost weird with the sound of silence if it weren't for the chatty customers with some chilling with their drink and pastries of choice. College students doing their research in groups, office-workers updating their marketing plans, and angsty teenagers listening to their melancholic music with their Airpods on. With the stress that you are feeling right now, you felt the need to listen to your own playlist while you watched the sun sank in the sky with a splash of pink, yellow, and blue creating a splash of colors that felt nostalgic yet different at the same time.
Hours passed with people coming in and out, the sky already turning night time with white stars sparkling at night. The yellow lights of the place illuminating at the dark to not only make the place more atmospheric, but to also make the customers feel comfortable with the chill yet warm vibe.
"Miss Y/N, are you already getting the order done for customer five?" your manager with a dark perfect bun for her hairstyle with pale foundation, reddish blush and lip tint, and sunken eye bags (reminding you of a porcelain doll) asked with a raised eyebrows and strict tone as you responded with a hum for agreement while you're mixing and preparing the drink condiments. "Yes Sajangnim (boss) I'm already done with the coffee macchiato and I already have the egg sandwich." you replied while hurrying to prepare the Americano. "Good, more tickets are coming you better hurry up." she replied while she scolds your co-worker that you are deeply annoyed at when she's slumping on the side clicking on her phone instead of helping you out. "She's probably texting someone to date huh?" a voice on your side whispered while you yelped in surprise. "Fucking, geez stop spawning randomly on the side like that." you hissed as he chuckles silently trying to minimize his voice while you also tried not to laugh hysterically. "Okay fine. You're working too much. I'll do the coffee latte and get the mango graham and the croissant." he suggested while your eyes widened in confusion and a bit of surprise. "You sure Jace?" you asked the young man with big ears as he raises a thumbs up "It's fine Eonni (older sister ; metaphorically). Now you go." "You just want your fees to go higher." you teased as he manners to go shooing you away. "I need it since I got to repair Vasco's phone." "Whatever, just do the job right and smooth." you smiled while he finger guns with a tongue-click sound.
You took the orders in your hand and approached the table before you quickly noticed the two familiar guys. You sighed before going closer to the very annoying customers just then the blonde with dark shades greeted you with a dramatic enthusiasm.
"Yo Y/N! It's nice to see you where have you been?!" Goo stood up while waving his hand making the other customers look in confusion. You not wanting to create a scene, you placed the tray in the table and planned to go away. But a hand held your own in a soft but not rather affectionate touch before you swat it away.
"What the hell are you doing in here?" you asked while you felt your blood boiling in frustration. "But we're here to-" "Shut the fuck up Walmart Ken." you scolded Goo while he created a insulting gasp while the ebony-haired man smirked in amusement. "We're here for Charles orders. We're going to take you back in the place where you truly belong for unfinished business." he commented in a calm yet teasing manner making you even more agitated. "This is my business, Gun." If it weren't for the other customers if they ever got frightened and with your manager firing you, you might created a miserable scene that you don't want to happen in the first place. But these people haunts down your biggest fears like a black hole swallowing your entire existence.
"And how did you even find me here? And don't you see the no smoking sign?" you rolled your eyes making Goo and Gun grin more while Gun huffs his smoke, "We have our own ways." "And c'mon Y/N, we know you miss doing tough missions with us!" Goo again interfered while you stood their in cold feet not knowing what to do with this situation. "And besides Charles is offering you a billion won with making the four major crews stronger for him to pay you, even make it thrice the price if you did the job well." Gun offered while taking a sip of his coffee and the other man looking at the menu sheet to order more of the sweets. "Well don't you contact me when either the Workers tried to interfere or your goons stabbing all of your backs." you replied with a sass while Gun just replies. "If that ever happens, I'm not going to hesitate to beat their-" "Yo Y/N, can I get a latte with a chocolate doughnut?" the childish guy ordered interrupting Gun's long speech. Though his eye accessory hides his orbs, you can imagine (almost see) Goo flickering his eyelashes like a puppy begging to play with it's owner. "Whatever, I'm leaving." you rolled your eyes in frustration before going to the employee room and aggressively slamming the door. "Wait what? Y/N We still have lots to talk about and my order-" Goo was about to chase you before Gun kicked him in the legs under the table, successfully earning a hiss of pain from the other guy. "Let her be, she'll change her mind." Gun interrupted while Goo raised his eyebrows. "Hah?! For fuck's sake we're just going to let her run away? Again? You'll be in fault if Charles scolded our scrawny asses again." Goo ranted as the people in the cafe started to weirdly glare at them for being to noisy. "I know where she's going, besides she would get scolded, even probably fired since she left during her shift. So just stay calm." Gun replied while stealing the sweet and umami food that Goo just offered that's been sitting for a minute now. "Hey! that's my sandwich!" "Just buy another one you got twenty thousand won on your wallet." Gun replied while he wipes off the extra mayo on his mouth with a tissue. "Says the one who's chomping off my toast right now, idiot." "Stop making Gordon Ramsey references or I'll kill you."
"Y/N where the hell have you been! Don't you see that there's lots of tickets flooding in here?! Oi you brat answer me!" your manager who's been flickering your guts scolded you while your co-worker from earlier smirks at your downfall, you not only fixing your bag in your locker but also trying to make yourself composed as you don't want to lash out your anger to the people who have done nothing wrong to you (they do, a lot but you just don't complain about it). "If you won't answer my question-" "Shut up." you murmured interrupting her speech in a lifeless manner. "I'll leave. You can fire my ass." "Hey Y/N what is going on in here?" Jace asked before you again slammed the exit door, leaving the poor guy confused and lots of responsibility in his hands...
You ran, as fast as you could. You kept running and running. You ran past the tall buildings filled with city lights creating a beautiful atmosphere, yet the familiar feeling of sorrow began to linger on your mind and heart reminding you of the memories of the past that you tried to bury deep down to start a completely fresh start of the first chapter of your life. But it looks like even books can have it's pages ripped and burned.
After a long mile, you stopped your movement as you breathe deeply trying to catch air like you're being suffocated by your feeling of dread. You didn't want to go in this place, but it is the only place that you called home.
This is the place where you met them, where you grew up, and where you were turned into a monster.
It is an old and abandoned park, the fake wood texture of the metal benches started to rust with the colorful paint with vulgar words and drawings adding to the stain. Trash were everywhere, even a scary place like this looks like it's been a hang out for runaway teenagers or addicts. The trees and plants look completely dry and lifeless since it's not been watered and just not being cared of, making the crunchy leaves fall down into the ground. Newspaper with the dirty and used ashtrays and used beverage bottles were also scattered in the area. It is a complete mess like what you are right now, but the smell of toxins and beer makes your mind hazy and in peace as you try to think of the good memories that you have in here (if you ever had one).
You thought that you can finally have your moment of peace and solitude. But it looks like you have to deal with these fuckers you kept whistling and cooing at your existence. Looks like they're drunk men who's been wasting their life, completely indulged in alcohol and other things that are addicting even though they mostly look formal, decent, and clean. The police were doing a bad job for shooing away people who don't have a home but doesn't arrest people like this. People who were supposed to act normal and responsible now that they have everything, not chugging on alcohol.
"Who is this chick over here?" a skinny man with a white polo asked as his friend's arms snaked into your shoulder, making you uncomfortable. "What are you doing here alone? Is your boyfriend supposed to take-" "Shut the fuck up and leave me alone retards." you swatted his hand away and getting distance from them, but this doesn't alarm the men keeping their annoying behavior in touch. They started making laughs and mocking faces making your blood boil. "Feisty huh? Don't worry, We will take care of yo-"
Everything went fast as you slammed him into the ground. His friends were caught off guard but the other goon decided to take you down. "You bitch!-"
It looks like a bad idea huh? Since you were so fast, you managed to capture and block his punch. You put pressure on his hand as you then twisted it making it dislocate and elbowing him on his armpit impacting pain on his shoulder and upper limb. He is now crying on the ground, coughing and crying like a little toddler who scratched his elbow as the other men decided to attack you besides the leader of the group who cowers in fear. Kicks, punches, and attacks are made by you causing them to get knocked out by your bare strength. You clicked your tongue in dismay when a familiar figure approached the scene. "I knew that you would be here." he muttered while you huffed in pure disgust as Gun smirked at the damage you have inflicted. "If you asked again for me to be a slave of your shitty management I'm not going with you." cutting him off with a unsatisfied tone, you started walking away from the place but then he tapped your shoulder. But you're not in the mood to interact with anybody. You didn't even thought twice that you punched him in the face yet he didn't even budged. A flow of blood starting to drool down on his chin. The masochistic Shiro Oni starting to get excited about your sudden aggression as he let himself get hit in the first place. "Will you stop following me around like a dog?! GET LOST YOU MOTHERFUCKER!"
"Punching me on the face would not end great for you, but this is why I like you Y/N. Now show me what you got can you?~" his demonic grin appearing on his scarred face.

Kiss Me Once In The Moonlight
Pairing: Bucky x Reader
Warnings: Angst, unrequited?feelings. Fluff.
Summary: Youāve fallen in love, but he wants someone else.
It was a cold mid October Saturday night when you realised you were in love with Bucky Barnes.
Natasha had ushered you out of your solitude and over to her private apartment on the compound. Steve was already there, along with Sam, Joaquin, Yelana, a few from the medical team and a few mechanics.
The place was decorated for spooky season, with playful ghosts and fuzzy spiders hiding in the corners. Everyone got comfortable and music played in the background whilst you snacked on nuts and candied apples and sipped beer. Halloween meets Octoberfest was the theme.
Bucky had been telling a story, his face lit up and his big hands flying everywhere as he described his mom chasing him with a broom during his teenage years after a Halloween fright. Occasionally his eyes met yours and they sparkled, but you figured he was like that with everyone.
Youād been crushing on him since you arrived in January and he was first to greet you. He seemed fascinated by your job, research and data analyst, but it was ultimately boring to almost everyone but you.
You lunched together sometimes and you swapped books every few weeks. You even got him into podcasts and you were always swapping recommendations.
But tonight he looked happy, relaxed even, and when Natasha dropped her dainty feet into his lap you felt the world skip underneath you, you wanted to put your feet in his lap. You wanted his big hands dwarfing your feet.
He rubbed her toes without thinking, and she snuggled down as the mechanics started describing the prank theyād played on Tony this week, going so far as to rope Pepper in.
āWanna stay here tonight?ā You heard Natasha murmur to Bucky during a lull in conversation. Sam was changing the music and Joaquin was setting up tequila shots.
He smiled at her but shook his head. āNah,ā his voice was thick with tiredness.
āYou finally made a move on that girl?ā She teased wiggling in her spot.
Buckyās cheeks tinged pink and you dropped your eyes when you realised you were staring. You didnāt want to be caught looking like some dumb kid.
It was foolish to think that Bucky with his wonderful abilities and handsome looks would be interested in you who spent most of your time at work or alone.
āThink Iām gonnaā take her out, yeah,ā he nodded. You snuck a glance at him in time to catch him looking from you to Natasha.
Oh god, he must have noticed you staring. How embarrassing!
Tears that had no right to form stung your eyes and you stood suddenly distracting Steve who was kneeling at the coffee table next to you. Sam took the opportunity to defeat him in their thumb war game much to Steveās annoyance.
āIām going to head back, Iām just really tired,ā you said to the room, avoiding Bucky. āThank you for the invitation Natasha.ā
There were a few comments asking you to stay but ultimately everyone wished you a good sleep. Your own room was a fifteen minute walk away in a shared block and you pulled your arms around yourself to fight the cold as you stepped outside.
āHey Doll,ā Bucky called startling you.
āBucky, hi,ā you frowned.
āThought Iād walk you back,ā he said falling into step with you. āAnd I wanted your advice.ā
ļæ½ļæ½Oh?ā
āSo thereās this girl I like. Sheās not like the others, sheās not really - sheās different. And I really want to make a date special for her, you know?ā He glanced as you, letting his arm bump yours as you walked.
āI do,ā you sighed resigning yourself to your fate. You didnāt want to have this conversation but you didnāt want to not help him either. He was your friend after all.
āSo Iāve had a few first date ideas, Iām thinking farmers market then making brunch together? I started this really great podcast and I was thinking we could listen together as we cook then talk about it while we eat? Then after we could go to a museum or something?ā Bucky licked his lips and stopped looking at you.
You didnāt want him to share a podcast with her. That was your thing with him. You knew you were being unfair, childish even but right now you didnāt care.
āThat sounds lovely,ā you said. And it did, you wished you were that girl, you wished Bucky wanted to go to all that trouble for you but instead youād have to sit home alone tomorrow whilst he wooād someone else.
āYeah?ā He asked excitedly. āI really just wannaā hold her hand, at the market, in the museum, I just crave that feeling you know, like this,ā Bucky reached for your hand and laced your fingers together, holding your joined hands up to inspect. āItās been a long time since I held a girls hand like this.ā
āI-Iām sure it has Buck,ā you swallowed. He resumed walking and you could do nothing but join him, he still had your hand in his. He described his outfit for his date and wondered if you had a cosy chunky sweater.
āI do, itās so comfortable,ā you said softly. You couldnāt hide the disappointment as you slowed in front of the doors. āItās my favourite colour too.ā
āWill you wear it tomorrow?ā Bucky tilted his head to the side.
āWhy does it matter what I wear?ā You couldnāt help but giggle at his odd request. You couldnāt though, thinking of him with someone else whilst you wore what he asked you to.
āI want to know that youāre warm tomorrow. You know, on our date?ā Bucky pressed his cool left hand on your cheek as he turned to face you. His kiss was soft, just a sweet brush of the lips and then he pulled away. āIāll see you at nine thirty?ā
āUh huh,ā you nodded dumbly. He kissed you again, and you caught the faint taste of whiskey on his lips. He was warm as he pressed into you and you let your hands slide up his chest to his shoulders.
āSee you tomorrow baby girl,ā he pressed one last kiss to your forehead then opened the building door for you.
You walked inside in a daze, waving goodbye and drifting up the stairs like you weighed nothing.
You couldnāt remember getting changed into your pjās, all you knew was that you were snuggled under your duvet setting an alarm for your date with Bucky in the morning.
You smiled, and suddenly your legs kicked and you let out a little squeal. You were going out with Bucky Barnes and he kissed you three times.
You feel asleep to the memory of one hot hand and one cold hand cupping your cheeks as he kissed you in the moonlight.

APAC Equitiesā Holiday Twists: Gold Miners, Yen, and More APAC Equities: A Chaotic Christmas Dance with a Twist The holiday spirit might be spreading cheer, but it hasnāt stopped APAC equities from their rollercoaster ride. Hereās the breakdown of what happened across the regionāserved with a sprinkle of humor and insight to keep things interesting. ASX 200: Gold Miners Got the Grinch Treatment The ASX 200 couldnāt decide whether it was naughty or nice, swinging between gains and losses faster than you can say āSanta rally.ā Gold miners led the early downsideāperhaps they were distracted by glittery Christmas baubles instead of actual gold. The release of RBA minutes was met with an impressive yawn, as traders found no shiny surprises in the central bankās stocking. Nikkei 225: A Currency Tug-of-War Initially buoyed by the weakening JPY, the Nikkei 225 felt like it had hit the jackpot. But much like a holiday dessert thatās too good to be true, the joy was short-lived. As USD/JPY slipped under 157.00, the gains evaporated, leaving traders wondering if Santa had swapped their rally for a lump of coal. Hang Seng and Shanghai Comp: The Overachievers Despite a lack of substantial macro news, Hang Seng and Shanghai Comp decided to channel their inner overachievers and outperformed the region. Chinaās fiscal work conference added some holiday sparkle, with promises to step up spending in 2025. Itās like planning your next big party while still cleaning up from the last one. Global Backdrop: The Ghost Town Effect US equity futures had the vibe of a deserted Christmas marketāflat with a downward bias. Meanwhile, European equity futures took the holiday spirit a bit too seriously, staying shut for three days. Who needs volatility when you have mulled wine? Advanced Insights: Lessons for Traders 1. The Seasonal Slump Low trading volumes during the holiday season mean heightened volatilityāthink of it as a festive tug-of-war between optimism and reality. Savvy traders know to tread carefully during these times. Always have your risk management strategies in place, and remember: the market doesnāt care if itās Christmas. 2. Hidden Patterns in Currency Movements The Nikkeiās brief rally highlights an important lesson: currency fluctuations can make or break equity performance. Keeping an eye on key levels like USD/JPYās 157.00 can provide an edgeālike spotting the secret ingredient in grandmaās famous eggnog. 3. Chinaās Long Game Chinaās fiscal plans signal potential opportunities for long-term investors. Increased spending could boost sectors like infrastructure and tech in 2025. Consider this your early tip to start researching. Actionable Tips for Traders - Stay Nimble: Low volumes can amplify moves, so use smaller position sizes to manage risk. - Watch Currency Pairs: Especially during volatile sessions, as they often dictate equity trends. - Plan Ahead: Look into 2025 opportunitiesāChinaās fiscal plans could be a game-changer. Trading with a Smile The APAC sessionās choppy ride reminds us that markets can be as unpredictable as holiday weather. But with the right insights and a bit of humor, even the most volatile days can offer hidden opportunities. Now go grab a cup of coffee (or eggnog) and get ready for the next market move! āāāāāā Image Credits: Cover image at the top is AI-generated Ā Read the full article

Sparkling Water Market SizeĀ To ReachĀ USD 76.95 Billion By 2028
Sparkling Water Market Growth & Trends
The globalĀ sparkling water marketĀ size is expected to reach USD 76.95 billion by 2028, according to a new report by Grand View Research, Inc. It is expected to expand at a CAGR of 12.6% from 2021 to 2028. Over the past few years, the demand forĀ packaged waterĀ has significantly grown across the globe owing to the rising demand for healthy drinking water and the declining availability of fresh, clean, and hygienic water.
Some of the biggest bottled water companies such as NestlĆ© S.A., The Coca-Cola Company, PepsiCo Inc., and Dr Pepper Snapple Group are promoting healthy water drinking through a number of product launches, including sparkling water. For instance, in March 2020, the Coca-Cola Company launched a new line of the sparkling water under the brand name āAHAā in the U.S. market, which features various flavor infusions to cater to the changing consumer demand.
Sparkling water is often sourced from mineral springs and its effervescence is a result of naturally occurring gases in some cases. Thus, the natural/mineral segment held the largest share of more than 60.0% share in 2020. The flavored caffeinated segment is expected to expand at a significant CAGR over the forecast period.
In March 2020, Caribou Coffee announced the launch of its new line of refreshing Caribou BOUsted Caffeinated Beverages. Caribou BOUsted is a delicious line of sparkling and blended caffeinated water and juice in a variety of fruit flavors and is available across the U.S. Lately, companies in the industry have been strengthening their distribution networks to enhance consumer reach.

Various studies suggested that sparkling water is not as harmful as sodas for dental and bone health. Hence, several consumers consider carbonated water as a healthier alternative to soda and sugary carbonated drinks. Furthermore, over the past few years, an increase in the number of commercial advertisements for bottled water has been playing an important role in boosting brand visibility. These advertisements highlight the quality and hydration benefits of the product, and also emphasize taste and convenience.
Key players of bottled water are launching sparkling water to gain maximum market share. For instance, in February 2021, PepsiCo, Inc. introduced five new caffeinated sparkling water flavors, namely mango passion fruit, blood orange grapefruit, triple berry, blueberry pomegranate, and citrus cherry flavors, under its bubbly brand. These launches are increasing product visibility in the market and are anticipated to boost the market growth over the forecast period.
Sparkling Water Market Report Highlights
The flavored natural/mineral and caffeinated sparkling water segment is expected to register a faster growth rate during forecast years as compared to the unflavored segment owing to the increasing launch of fruit-flavored drinks
The online distribution channel is expected to register the fastest growth rate of 13.3% from 2021 to 2028
North America dominated the market by accounting for over 35.0% in 2020 owing to the high product adoption in the region
By product, the natural/mineral segment held the largest share of more than 60.0% in 2020
Regional Insights
North America held the largest share of over 35.0% in 2020. The rising consumer preference for healthy alternatives to soft drinks is the major factor driving the segment. Benefits such as improved intake, better digestion, and enhanced bone and heart health are influencing consumers to drink sparkling water. Moreover, the easy availability of this product across distribution channels is anticipated to boost the growth of this segment.
Europe accounted for a significant share in 2020. In Europe, there is a strong demand for sparkling water in several countries, such as Germany, the U.K., Italy, Spain, France, and the Netherlands, where the product is often served with meals in restaurants. In Europe, quick-service restaurants are expanding at a notable growth rate. They have been introducing several new beverages and food items inspired by national as well as international cuisines in order to further their footprint in an increasingly competitive environment. This is foreseen to bode well for the regional market in the coming years.

Benefits of Buying an Apartment as an InvestorĀ
Source: FreepikĀ
Considering how the economy has depleted over the past few years, we understand how more and more people are looking for alternative income streams. While there are many ways to generate passive income, the real estate market is booming.Ā
For ambitious investors seeking a dynamic entry point into the evolving real estate market, apartments offer many attractive opportunities. Their unique advantages unlock the potential for a secure and fulfilling investment journey, paving the way for consistent returns and long-term success.
Wondering how investing in an apartment helps you out when the economy is crumbling? Continue reading to find out.Ā
1. Steady Rental IncomeĀ
One of the most significant benefits of investing in an apartment is that you can say goodbye to the daily grind. Imagine waking up every day knowing you have a steady flow of income, all because of the investment you made in an apartment, and you will receive a monthly rent, regardless of whether you work regularly.Ā
Thatās the power of investing in an apartment. It transforms into self-operating money machines powered by consistent tenant payments that arrive like clockwork, month after month. This passive income stream offers significant financial stability.Ā
You can use the incoming income to pay your monthly dues or invest them further for future security.Ā
2. Lower Entry PointĀ
One thing that usually makes people afraid of investing in an apartment is that real estate is expensive. Most people typically think about buying land or a house in a new housing society when referring to investing in real estate.Ā
This is where investing in an apartment makes things easier. Apartments boast a significantly lower entry point compared to the often hefty price tags of properties and houses. They are accessible to a broader range of investors, especially those starting or seeking to diversify their portfolios.Ā
With a smaller initial investment, you can still leverage the power of real estate and reap the benefits of property ownership. Donāt believe us? Just look at all the new apartment buildings going up for sale in Karachi. They offer all investors a wide range of opportunities, and you can start booking flats in Karachi with the lowest downpayment.Ā
3. Amenities Await
Beyond the spacious units and welcoming lobby, a world of convenience awaits where apartments are concerned. A sparkling pool beckons you for a refreshing dip after work, while the state-of-the-art fitness center offers a chance to break a sweat without leaving home.
Need to catch up on laundry? No problem! The on-site laundry facilities save you precious time and effort. And if you work remotely, ditch the crowded coffee shop and head to the dedicated co-working space for a focused, productive session.
These aren't just perks; they're strategic investments that enhance your apartment's appeal and profitability in multiple ways:
Tenant Magnet: Amenities attract discerning tenants by aligning with specific lifestyle preferences (fitness center for enthusiasts, rooftop pool for leisure seekers).
Rent Booster: Well-maintained amenities like pools and co-working spaces can command up to 10% higher rental income.
Value Amplifier: Amenities contribute to long-term property value, fetching higher resale prices due to increased perceived value.
Community Catalyst: Shared amenities like pools and gardens foster a sense of community, reducing tenant turnover and enhancing property appeal.
Differentiating Factor: Unique amenities like rooftop gardens or dog parks give you a competitive edge and attract tenants willing to pay a premium.
Choosing amenities that align with your target demographic and local market trends is vital. Conduct thorough research and consider factors like the age and interests of your typical tenant, the surrounding neighborhood, and nearby competitor offerings.
4. Lower Maintenance CostĀ
How many weekends have you spent in your home fixing clogged drains or patching leakages throughout the roof?Ā
Investing in an apartment means youāre saying goodbye to clogged drains, leaky roofs, and weekend repair marathons. With flats, maintenance hassles become a distant memory. Here's why:
Dedicated Management: Apartment buildings often have on-site staff or property managers who handle the nitty-gritty of upkeep. From leaky faucets to flickering lights, they're equipped to tackle everyday maintenance needs, allowing you to free up your precious time and energy.
Shared Costs: Major repairs in an apartment building are typically divided among unit owners, significantly reducing the financial impact on each individual. Instead of facing the total cost alone, you only contribute a proportional share, making your investment more manageable and less prone to budget-wrecking surprises.
Professional Expertise: Apartment buildings often maintain relationships with trusted maintenance professionals. Plumbers, electricians, and handymen are just a phone call away, ensuring prompt and efficient repairs.
Peace of Mind: Knowing that experienced professionals diligently oversee your property allows you to relax and focus on other aspects of your life, confident that your investment is in good hands.
So, skip the toolbox and embrace the carefree life of owning an apartment. Leave the maintenance worries to the experts and enjoy the freedom of knowing your investment is well-maintained and running smoothly.
5. Access to Prime LocationĀ
When it comes to apartment investing, location is everything. Apartments are often strategically located in vibrant urban hubs, close to desirable amenities like public transportation, shopping centers, and entertainment options.Ā
This proximity attracts a steady stream of potential tenants, especially young professionals and students seeking convenient living arrangements.Ā
Furthermore, the desirability of a central location naturally translates to higher occupancy rates. When vibrant communities surround your apartment buildings, finding reliable tenants becomes significantly more accessible, minimizing vacancy risks and ensuring a steady flow of rental income.Ā
Final ThoughtsĀ
While apartment investing boasts undeniable benefits, it's crucial to approach it with a clear head and thorough research.Ā
Carefully assess your financial situation, risk tolerance, and investment goals before diving in. Conduct due diligence on potential properties, factor in vacancy rates and maintenance costs, and seek professional advice from experienced real estate agents or financial advisors.Ā
Remember, successful apartment investing requires a blend of strategic planning, calculated risk-taking, and a proactive approach to property management.Ā
With the right mindset and a commitment to intelligent decision-making, you can unlock the immense potential that apartment investing offers, paving the way for a secure and fulfilling financial future.

How To Determine The Best Organic CoffeeĀ Beans?
Many persons simply cannot begin the day or carry on a conversation unless they have consumed caffeine. Theyāre not alone. Most organic coffee drinkers swear by their first cup of coffee in the morning for an instant boost of energy to get their day started. But how they can determine the best organic coffee? Donāt worry this blog will aid that how to choose the best coffee beans.
Organic coffee consumption is another market-wide surge in healthful products. It is nutritious, anti-inflammatory, and high in antioxidants. A preference for organic thoughts is anticipated to boost market growth. In addition, according to a research report by Astute Analytica, the GlobalĀ Organic Coffee MarketĀ is likely to rise at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 12.56% over the forecast period from 2023 to 2031.
Ways to select organic coffee:
Choose the quantity of caffeine the person desires
Not all organic coffee beans have the same amount of caffeine, so determining how much caffeine a person prefers is an excellent approach to help them determine which coffee to purchase.
Excelsa organic coffee beans are the least caffeine concentration of the four, with approximately 1 gram of caffeine per 100 grams of seeds. Liberia comes in second, at 1.23 g of caffeine for every 100 grams of bean. Arabica coffee contains 1.61 g/100 g of caffeine, while Robusta contains 2.26 g/100 gram.
Knowing the different types of organic coffee beans
Understanding the many types of organic coffee bean picking is essential when selecting a variety of coffee. It can be classified in a multitude of ways, including variety, roast level, flavor profile, grind, caffeine content, brewing method, additions, and so on. When a person visits a shop or store to buy coffee, they must learn at least the major aspects of each category. They want a coffee with a flavor that is also suitable for the coffee maker they have on hand.
Always examine the packing
It is essential to thoroughly examine the packaging to verify that people are using high-quality coffee powder. Always look for the roast date so they know how long it has been after the beans were roasted. Verify the instant coffee powder for chicory, which is a key flavor component. For the intense flavor, coffee aficionados may prefer 100 percent coffee. However, flavored coffee is an option for those who enjoy experimenting with different flavors.
Understanding personal taste
People must first determine their preferred coffee flavor and style to select the best sorts of coffee. Just because a coffee is costly or suggested by an expert does not guarantee that it will be to their taste.
In general, Organic beans are the only way to choose if people enjoy organically richer coffees with a light body and sparkling acidity. They have a variety of flavors, including fruits, flowers, chocolate, and nuts. Liberica, Robusta, and Excelsa coffees, are all good selections if they want more earthier and bittersweet tasting coffees with a hefty body. A combination of each of these foods with organic beans can also provide a great balance.

Visiting your hometown
What happens when you take your man to your home town? As your memories, people and places come together how will he react?
A small/long drabble to get me back into writing. Enjoy!
Victor Creed
This mutant never thought that he would walk in your hometown. He didn't expect to see cultures that morph together into one special town, your town. A place where you grew up. So keeping all that in mind he was cautious. Various not to offend someone or to say a rude word in your mother tongue. For the first time in his life, he is frazzled and nervous. he will keep in his front pocket a small leaflet some words he heard you say a few times that may be of some assistance. trying to woo you.
-that old hag showed me the middle finger. let's go.
Unfortunately, anything that he says wrong, will be your responsibility to amend it. so good luck.
Loki
you just know that Loki will have your mother tongue in his little finger (that sounds weird but let's carry on) but do not be fooled, he can not survive the morning wave of people in the farmers market. something that is pretty much normal for you. Loki doesn't know how to feel when he sees the local butcher wrapping the meat in todays' newspaper giving it to buyers or how people shove him to the side as his black suit with the green scarf is more than brought down in value. he will hear the near shouts of Famers that are trying to sell their livelihood to him as his head goes from one side to another in a split second. he will easily get reeled in by the old farmer who just smells the innocence on the Midgardian addressed god. you know the moment you grabs his hand he looks at you.
-how did you ever survive in this chaos?
-I thought you said that chaos is your middle name.
-it is however my kind of chaos is more dignified.
-survive just a little bit more, I need to go to that man in the corner.
-oh, no...
Thor
we all in the fandom know that thor is a ball of joy. but when he lands in your city, your territory he is stoic. he is here on a mission and no one should stand in his way. he will glue himself to your side and he will hold the dictionary book in his mighty right hand and your hand in his left. he will not stand for wasting a day on mundane stuff that you do with him back in the HQ so say goodbye to lazying around. when you go to the oceanic part of your country you are now almost ready to drown him in the ocean. or just leave him on the road, it is getting that heavy.
-thor, think it is time to stop.
-what do you mean?
-to be honest, I don't know anymore I am so tired.
-you are right... let us stop. for 2 minutes and then you can drive again.
-I will leave you here.
Bucky Barnes
bucky loves to travel. he loves to see you in the role of a guide you tell him about the park where you cut your leg open and when you got to the hospital as a nun stood above you praying for your recovery. bucky loves to feel the fresh air going into his nose thinking to himself how this was the same air that you breathe in. he loves to see all the different parts of the city where you went to. even so much that he went to your former hairstylist.
-bucky, you don't have to do this.
-nonsense, doll. I want to experience it. just like you did.
-that was eons ago. and I wore super short hair, like a hedgehog.
-hedgehog?
-yeah, it was so short that I only put on gel and made small spikes.
- I will give everything I have and say that you looked beautiful.
-alright, your call.
Steve Rogers
steve cannot wait for enough for him to arrive in the city where you walked, ran, and laughed. he cannot wait to enter your old apartment and see all of the hidden pieces that he wants to know. he loves to help you clean the apartment and see a big box of your old photos. he will look with your through on the hard wooden floor with one arm around your shoulders as you talk about each photo. even showing him the photo of your sister.
-when will I meet her?
-I don't know.
-didn't you say that she lived here, still?
-yeah...
-I want to meet her. I think am ready for it.
-okay...
Bruce Wayne
you just know that when you told him to pack his bags to go with you he did his research. he knows when, how the city was built. he will try to memorize the tongue twisters and say them horribly wrong just to make you laugh. when he looks at your old apartment he tries to envision the day you left it all behind to go to Gotham and it breaks his heart to imagine you in tears.
-bruce.
you take his calloused hand feeling his fingers tighten the grip.
-sorry, I immediately imagined you when you moved out. I got sad.
-why?
-because, you surely cried.
-I did, a little, but this city didn't have that something.
-and what is that?
-you dumbass. now stop sulking we need to clean.
Clark Kent
as Clark arrived at the farm where your aunt lived he couldn't help feel but prepared. he saw the cows eating grabs and was ready in a split second to milk it just to show off his soft and delicate side. Clark heard the stories of your aunt, well one of them, and from what he concluded, for now, this aunt was the beginner level, nice one, the one who won't tear him a new one if he doesn't treat you right. as the door opened you greeted your aunt in your mother tongue and introduced your man. Clark shakingly trying to reply in the mother tongue feeling the few letters that stood together could fall more apart than from his mouth. your aunt laughed hugging him and roughly patted him on his back. almost like a punch if you will. you look at your aunt and Clark cannot help but stand behind you as he whispered.
-what did she say?
-she said that you seem stiffer than a goat's turd.
-you said that this aunt was nice.
-she is. but that is the way we express ourselves.
-with curse words???!!
-what better way.
Arthur curry
Arthur was relaxed when he arrived, he was laid back when he slept in your apartment but that all suicide jumped off a cliff as he shook hands with your mother. Your mom wasn't that intimating but he heard the stories of her standing to your abusive father and running away with just some change in her pocket and a used car. he knows that the woman in front of him is strong can make or break your relationship. so he held the coffee cup in his hands as if was the key to everything he needed to know how to make your mother happy. he saw how your eyes sparkled when you talked to her how your smile ever left for a second you take what seemed to him in complete gibberish but cute gibberish. your mother turns to him asking in English.
-so Arthur, can I call you by your first name?
-yes, madam. of course, you can.
-thank you. well, then Arthur what do you do for a living?
with a small nod from you, he tells the honest truth.
-I am a superhero. but minus the stupid cape. I am here to keep you and your daughter, of course, safe from all danger. and I hope you will like me!!!!
you turn to your mother with a small chuckle as you tell her in your mother tongue.
-he is helpless.
-he seems like it, good luck, Y/n.
Orm Marius
nothing can save his pulse from rising as he walked with the crowd of people in the town square only your hand which he held more than tightly enough. you stopped pointing at a big statue of a colonel on a horse placed in the middle of the square.
-he is a big deal.
-yes, I can imagine the poor people that had to lift it up to place it here.
-yes, but thanks to those people, people now in the present can always remember what they went through at that time.
he didn't find any specialness in the statute for him it lacked in far more than that he can count but when he saw your face looking at the statue he knew that whatever that stirred in you he wanted to see it every day. he only squeezed your hand placing a kiss on your knuckles.
-does this mean you want in your likeness?
-sure, but only if you will make it.
-oh, darling, that is a recipe for chaos.
The Joker
j never put effort into himself. he did in destruction, in chaos, in mayhem, and even in covering his white skin with some basic foundation as he meets your off the edge aunt. when you told him that every second sentence from her is a curse he was more than ready to meet her. because sometimes crazy people click with the people who like to curse. everyone knows that. so when he sat in the house of your crazy aunt he firstly observed, he watched you talked together and exchanged laughs, even more, when you ever brought to tears as you laughed off the curses she threw at you so playfully making even j smile. so when she turned to him it was game time. and you were the translator.
-my aunt asked what is that you do for a job?
-tell her I am the man of your dreams.
-I told her that.
-damn, then tell her-WHAT?!
you giggle at his shock as you heard the playful quote she told you when you were little and j wanted to know what she said.
-what did she say?
-she said "if a girl gives a man a hand, she will give him her ass"
-your aunt is a wise woman.
- I knew you would like her.
Duncan Vizla
Duncan likes to take walks and taking a walk with you next to him as you showed him around your old neighborhood and told him stores of the always pissed on metal slide and the always filled cafes that were always the pinpoints for some scammers he found in question why you like it so much. as you showed his around you stopped at your old elementary school. you showed him the main entrance was where everyone hurled in the morning hours and where you sat with your friends and talked about the horribly proffers that still to this day haunt you. something he heard you mumble in your sleep.
-she was that awful?
-yes, and people like here never get old it's like the evilness she has in her keeps her eligible for work.
-am i not the same?
he couldn't ask a stupider question. and for that, you punched him in the shoulder.
-don't compare yourself to her. you aren't evil.
-you are forgetting my job, darling.
-you kill for money, she kills for fun and to keep herself alive. a difference now let's go home I need to remind you just how good and attentive you can be.
-lead the way, dove.
hope you liked it. Tell me what you thinkā¤ļø

Ooo fic requests,,, how abouttt madeleine convincing espresso to take a day off to relax?
ao3
He really should have seen them sooner. The signs, pointing to the fact that something is amiss with Espresso. But as Madeleine sweeps up the stairs to the mageās laboratory, situated two floors above Sparklingās juice bar, he remains blissfully unaware of the uncharacteristic quiet of the stairwell, devoid of the usual distant crackling of electricity. He doesnāt notice that the hum of equipment, the bubbling and hissing of wildly coloured chemicals in little vials, the telltale scratch-scratch-scratch of Espressoās quill on parchment, are absent as well.
Instead, he hums the chorus line of an old Republic cantata that had snuck into his head that morning. He balances the freshly-made scones, jam and cream in the crook of his right arm, the flasks of tea (for him) and coffee (for his boyfriend) in his left. And as he clears the last flight of steps, he certainly doesnāt register the musty smell of the room he stands outside, the scent of dust and stale coffee souring the air, as he bursts through the door, announcing heartily,
āEspresso! The hero of the hour has come to relieve you of your workaholismā¦ with breakfast!ā He brandishes the gifts ā procured from the market that very morning ā like theyāre his sword and shield, flashes his trademark grin, andā¦
ā¦.and then he goes quiet.
Espresso sits (or rather, slumps) at his messy desk, head resting in both his hands. His carefully gelled up hair now falling in disheveled locks across his face. Slowly, thin fingers shift slightly to reveal a single, bloodshot eye, that regards the knight with disdain.
āOf course,ā he murmurs, almost to himself. āAs if things couldnāt get any worse, you show up.ā
Madeleine blinks at the unexpected hurt the comment brings him. Yes, their early relationship was full of such... quips from Espresso, but more than half the time, Madeleine had deserved them. Now, after time spent trying to improve himself, stepping back to let others take the spotlight once in a while, not tying his worth to the adoration of the public (that was still a work in progress), he thought heād gotten better. To hear his boyfriend say those same, biting words that characterised their interactions months prior, when all heād done was say hello?
Something isnāt right.
āWell, that is to say, your work ethic is something I admire, of course, but you do tend to neglect yourself because of it.ā Madeleine pads towards the desk, tries to find an uncluttered spot to set their breakfast down. āHence, scones! Tear yourself away for a bit and eat them with me?ā
Espressoās finger twitches, and quite suddenly, Madeleine is sent stumbling back, a crackling magical barrier shooting up around the mage. āLeave, Knight-Commander,ā Espresso says, āIām in no mood to entertain your bumbling.ā
Carefully, Madeleine sets down the packages on the floor. āEspresso. Are you well? Something about you seemsā¦ off, today.ā
The Coffee mage, still unmoving at his desk, scoffs lightly. āOff? Iām fine. I was perfectly fine before you came along to distract me.ā
Madeleine chances a glance around the room, at the crumpled up papers scattered across the floor, the dustbins filled with strange, foul-smelling goop, cups of half-drunk coffee set across every available surface.
āI do not think so,ā he responds, gently as he can. āSomething is troubling you, that much is clear. Let me help, Espresso.ā
Espressoās fists slam on the table, and the mageās head snaps up, anger flashing in his eyes. āYouāre not some white knight in shining armour, and youāre not a savior,ā he snarls, āso stop trying to be one and leave. Me. Alone!ā The barrier around him turns into a wave of Coffee Magic that sweeps across the lab, engulfing Madeleine in momentary pain.
Then, the room is silent once again.
Madeleine regards Espresso, head back in his hands. āAre you done?ā
āLeave.ā
He takes a breath, composes his next words, and speaks. āItās true that I am none of those things, youāve made that abundantly clear in the time weāve known each other.ā No response from Espresso, but for a slight exhalation of breath he chooses to interpret as amusement. He continues. āBut I am your boyfriend. And while I may not be a saviour, Iām not foolish enough to let that stop me from caring about you. If caring means leaving you alone, then so be it. But Iāve left you alone for weeks now, and seeing you this wayā¦ā
He trails off, looking Espresso up and down. His robe had been long discarded, in favour of rumpled shirtsleeves, stained and singed, and the mage looks more exhausted than usual, if that is even possible.
āā¦ So let me care about you. Please.ā
As if a switch had been flipped, Espresso deflates, curling in, head falling from his hands to rest on the deskās edge with a dull thud. His next words come slightly muffled from beneath the table.
āIām sorry, it-ā, They both wince at the rough, sarcastic tone. Espresso takes a shuddering breath, and Madeleineās chest aches when he sees Espressoās slight frame shake with the effort. He tries again, softer this time. āIām sorry. Itās just. It's been-ā his voice hitches. āItās been a long day.ā
And Madeleine is crouched at his side in an instant, rubbing soothing circles into his back. Espresso sighs, and leans against him.
āItās the research grant for the Parfaedia Institute,ā the words tumble out of him, āI have to develop a new spell, submit successful results as proof. Next yearās funding hinges on it but. But I-ā
Madeleine leans on his shoulder. āItās alright. You donāt need to say it if you donāt want to.
āNo, itāsā¦ itās nothing. Just that none of my experiments have worked so far. I thought that if I simply buckled down and focused, everything would fall into place, like it had in the past. But the deadline is a week away and Iām no closer to a completed paper than I was a month ago. I.ā Espresso shuts his eyes, fighting against the rising tears. āI donāt know what to do.ā
Wordlessly, Madeleine straightens up, opens his arms.
Espresso gets out of his seat, wincing as blood rushes to his legs, and stumbles into his boyfriendās embrace, the tension in his shoulders finally melting away.
āMadeleine, I need a day off, donāt I?ā Espresso mutters, defeated, into his chest.ā
The paladin chuckles. āI think you just might.ā
āHad coffee an hour ago though. Probably wouldnāt be able to sleep, even if I tried.ā
Madeleine breaks away gently. āHow about some breakfast, to start? These scones arenāt going to eat themselves.ā
For the first time in weeks, Espresso cracks a small smile. āLet me get cleaned up first?ā
āOf course.ā
āAnd Madeleine?ā Espresso looks up at the knight.
āHmm?ā
āIām sorry about earlier, truly. Andā¦ thank you.ā
Madeleine smiles, too, and presses a soft kiss to Espressoās forehead.
āAlready forgiven, and thank you. For letting me take care of you.ā
-
Later, they take breakfast together (slightly cold, but neither of them mind). Then, Madeleine takes Espressoās hand, and pulls him out of his dark laboratory, to the sunlit Kingdom beyond.
If he was someone different, perhaps Madeleine would have pointed out the metaphor. But heās far too busy trying to win a stuffed jelly horse for his boyfriend (currently riding a carousel bemusedly) to notice. Probably for the best, anyways.
#cookie run#espresseleine#IM SORRY THIS HAS BEEN SITTING IN MY INBOX FOR MONTHS DJDBDLBDLD#wrote this in a haze might go back tomorrow and edit#but yea hope u like it anon!#the actual break-taking happens towards the end most of this is just grumpy espresso oops#oh yeah also this entire fic was based around usnavis one line in champagne jsyk

Paloma, Part I
Series Masterlist - Part I - Part II
Word count: 4100+
Rating: mature, 18+ only
Outline: Statesman!Frankie "Catfish" Morales, Agent Jack āWhiskeyā Daniels, and "You" (OC cis/het female reader, Statesman research analyst, code name āPalomaā; age 26; reader is āblank canvasā/no physical description/no use of āY/Nā)
Warnings: fully legal age gap; curse words; references to M/F sex; lots of yearning; a little sprinkling of angst; American readers, please be warned that this piece features the absolutely filthy fantasy of Statesman paying off your student loans in full
You left Kentucky on a sunny June morning with a rolling suitcase, six cardboard boxes, and a heart full of golden light. You were ready for the new challenges of your promotion and the move to New York, but it was still hard to quell the little butterflies that insisted on dancing and twirling in your gut. Statesman HQ was like a beacon that had been calling to you for the last three years, and you were half-convinced that the promotion and the move were a daydream; something that would be snatched out of your hands if you thought about it too much.
It was strange to leave Kentucky, your home since you were four years old. You had been raised in a small town about an hour south of Louisville, and you hadn't had the opportunity to leave until college. Even then you didn't travel very far, just to a dorm room at the University of Louisville, going back to your hometown for every vacation instead of flying off to California or Europe like some of your more glamorous friends.
You had put your time to good use, though. You busted your ass and completed an accelerated program in Criminal Justice that earned you both a Bachelor's and a Master's in one go, with a minor in statistics and data science. The result was a deep and abiding love of research and analysis, with the burning desire to do good in the world.
---
The Friday morning of your graduation ceremony, you emerged from your apartment fresh-faced and giddy, ready to walk the stage and start the next phase: adult life in the "real world." You knew that your life was about to change, but as you juggled the garment bag with your cap and gown and tried to lock your door, you had no idea just how much. You heard a soft voice say your name behind you, and it made you jump and drop your purse, spilling the contents across your doorstep. You turned to see a woman of about 40, with flawless terra-cotta skin and an adorable mop of chestnut hair. Black horn-rimmed glasses framed bright, inquisitive eyes. She immediately bent to help you retrieve your belongings, stammering gentle apologies.
"I'm so sorry! Let me help you get your things. I didn't mean to scare you." She smiled sweetly at you and handed you back your sunglasses and lip gloss.
"No! It's fine, I'm sorry I'm so preoccupied." You lifted the garment bag by way of explanation. "Graduation day! Um, how can I help you?"
"You don't know me, but my name is Ginger. I work for an organization that recruits bright young minds like yours. It's a lot to explain, but if you're interested in a job interview next week, we'd love to talk with you." She handed you a creamy white business card with a Louisville address.
You frowned. "Statesman Distillery? I don't have any experience with alcohol production or marketing. I do data analysis and my degrees are in criminal justice."
"We know. We've been following your research and your schooling for a while." She gave you a mischievous smile, and it looked for all the world like she was hiding something fun behind it, something secretive and intriguing that made you want to know more.
"Please, just give me an hour of your time next week? When you have some time to pay us a visit, just call that number and ask for me. I'm really looking forward to chatting with you."
You thanked her and promised you would call, and then you tucked the card into your bag and forgot all about it for nearly a week. Graduation day was hectic, with lots of relatives visiting and interrogating you about your career plans, and the days afterward were spent attending parties and saying goodbye to friends who were scattering to far-flung places. After you had finished the last of your university-related errands like returning a few library books and picking up your official transcript, there wasn't much left to do except putter around your apartment and take a few days off before beginning a job search. Those student loans weren't going to pay themselves off.
You found Ginger's card in your purse on Wednesday morning and put it on the fridge with a magnet. On Thursday you were so hungover you didn't want to make any calls. On Friday you found yourself at loose ends with nothing planned, so you picked up the phone and dialed. When you reached the switchboard you gave your name and asked for Ginger, and they put you right through. She picked up after one ring, as if she had been waiting for your call.
"Hi! I'm so glad you called me! Can you come by today?" Ginger sounded genuinely excited to talk to you, not smarmy or fake like other corporate recruiters you had spoken with.
"Oh, uh, yeah. I mean, yes, thank you. Are you sure today's okay? I can come next week if that's better."
"No! Please come whenever you're ready. I'm really hoping you'll like what you see."
"Okay, will I need to dress up? Will I be meeting with anyone for an interview? Should I bring copies of my resume?" You wanted to make a good impression, but you weren't sure if this was just something the distillery did casually, like a winery tour, or if you would need to be ready for a formal interview.
"Nope! Just bring yourself! We already know everything we need to know about your qualifications."
"Ah... okay. I'm all yours. I'll see you in about an hour?"
"Perfect! I'll leave your name at the front gate with the guard. Just show them your ID and they'll wave you through."
You said your goodbyes and put the phone down. What kind of data analysis job was even available at a distillery? Market trends? Did they need a criminal justice major for tracking down rip-offs, like people counterfeiting their product? But wait, didn't the government do that kind of thing? The ATF? You shook your head clear of questions and hopped in the shower. You could ask Ginger all of your questions, since she seemed to be so happy to talk with you.
When you arrived at the Statesman Distillery an hour later, you were impressed at the size of the facility. Distilleries were pretty common in the state of Kentucky, with lots of little family companies sprinkled around. But Statesman rivaled the big names for sheer square footage.
Ginger met you in a conference room and offered you coffee, and then asked you to sign a non-disclosure agreement. You didn't think twice about it. NDAs were common in lots of industries, and you guessed that it had something to do with trade secrets, Statesman not wanting to leak information about their whiskey production details. When Ginger began the tour and you walked down a long hallway with multiple sparkling white laboratories behind thick glass, you found it unusual, but not alarming. Cleanrooms, maybe? Something to do with alcohol distillation formulas, probably.
When she ushered you into a large wood-paneled office and introduced you to Champ, the head of Statesman, you thought it was odd. Companies didn't normally introduce new college graduates to executives during tours. Based on the size of the organization, you thought you might meet the CEO or President once or twice a year, maybe at a holiday party or a company retreat. But he was friendly, and he seemed to have already heard of you; his eyebrows raised an inch at Ginger when she gave him your name. He also seemed far more interested in criminal justice and data analysis than you expected for a distillery executive, but you shook hands and answered all of his questions politely.
When Ginger asked you to step into an elevator and it dropped 10 floors, you started to wonder a little. When the doors opened and she walked you to a room with a huge bank of monitors, with screens showing all kinds of maps and security video feeds, you were downright confused. But when she revealed the cherry on top, the fact that Statesman was not in the business you thought they were? That was too shocking. You were sure she was joking. You turned behind you to look for hidden cameras, expecting a prank show host to come jumping out at you.
"This is a joke, right?"
Ginger smiled that sweet, warm smile at you. "No joke. We want you to join the Research Unit, working in the Data Analysis section. You would be keeping our agents safe, helping them make the best decisions possible. And in turn your work could save lives, hundreds of them. Maybe even thousands. What do you say?"
"I... uh... I still think youāre joking. Iāve never heard of anything like this. Iā¦ are you sure you want me?"
"Yes, if you're interested. We could use you on the team." She pushed a little slip of paper into your hand, and when you saw the annual salary that was listed, you almost fainted.
"Ginger, this is way too much. I just graduated and this is, like... this is a senior analyst's salary. I'd be able to pay off my student loans in like three years!"
"Actually, we would be paying your student loans off before you start work. If you have financial burdens hanging over your head you could be vulnerable to bribes or extortion attempts from foreign governments or bad actors. We want you clear before you start with us. Think of it as a signing bonus."
"Holy shit! Sorry, I mean... I... Jesus." You looked at her in confusion. "Y'all really want me?"
She smiled and nodded. "Yes, we really do."
"Okay, when do I start?"
And that had been it, your first "big girl" job out of college. You were welcomed warmly to the Statesman team, and you loved the fact that you did interesting work that had a real impact. The hardest part had been telling your friends and family the required cover story, saying you were doing market analysis until you could find a job in criminal justice somewhere. But since you were happy with your new job and it paid well, none of them pressured you to move on.
During your first two years with Statesman you climbed the ranks, earning promotions and new responsibilities that eventually put you in the seat of Assistant Director of Data Analysis. You had risen high enough in Statesman that your work required a code name, and you chose āPaloma,ā a nod to your favorite grapefruit cocktail. You answered directly to the head of the Research Unit, and every report that your team produced was vital. You weren't wasting your talent in some corporate hole, enriching the CEO's salary at the expense of your sanity. You were saving lives, making a difference. Your reports had even been sent to the New York headquarters, where they used them as a model for operations.
And the job had brought you romance, too. One day not long after your promotion to Assistant Director, you were walking out of the conference room, so focused on your phone that you didn't see where you were going. You bumped into something large and solid in a denim shirt, and a pair of warm, calloused hands held your shoulders to steady you. You cursed softly to yourself and then looked up into the most gorgeous pair of brown eyes that you had ever seen. A man with patchy stubble and a well-worn baseball cap smiled at you, eyes crinkling with warmth.
"Whoa! Are you okay?" His eyes looked concerned as they searched your face. You looked at him with wonder. He was so, so beautiful. The smile dropped, and then his brows knitted together into a slight frown. "I said, are you okay?"
You realized you were staring with your mouth half open like some lovestruck teenager, and that an embarrassing amount of time had passed since you first met his eyes.
"Yes!" Your voice was louder than you intended. "Yes, I'm sorry. Sorry I bumped into you. I should have watched where I was going. I'm sorry."
"That's okay. Did I hurt you?"
"Ah, no. No, I'm fine. Sorry. Just distracted today."
"That's okay. Sorry I startled you." He smiled again and squeezed your upper arm.
You could have stayed there forever, leaning into his touch. He let go, much to your chagrin, and then went into the conference room. You made a note to ask someone who he was, to see if you could find out more about him. He wasn't being escorted by a staff member, so he was obviously part of the Statesman organization somehow. Someone would know who he was.
You went into the ladies room, running into Ginger at the sinks. "Oh, Paloma! I'm so glad I saw you. I need to steal your boss for an urgent matter. Can you run his 11:00 meeting in the conference room? I know it's last minute, but I'll buy you lunch later."
Your brain flickered out for a nanosecond. The 11:00 meeting? The conference room? The handsome man? You recovered your composure and smiled at Ginger. "Yeah, no problem at all. Tell him to drop his notes off in the conference room and I'll be there in just a moment."
Ginger smiled and punched your shoulder softly. "Thanks, Pal. I owe you one."
You washed your hands in a trance. Oh lord, this was going to be interesting. You squared your shoulders and met your own eyes in the mirror. You looked exactly like you had this morning, just your normal self. Most of the time that was fine, but right now you wanted to be more glamorous, more devastating. You wanted to absolutely bewitch the handsome mystery man in the meeting. In the absence of some kind of last-minute emergency Hollywood makeup team, you would have to settle for a fresh application of lip balm and a quick scrub of your teeth with a damp paper towel. You flicked a stray eyebrow hair into place, sighed, and headed back to the conference room. Looks weren't important anyway, right? Statesman had hired you for your brain, not your face. And really, you were more interested in showing your boss that you could do well in your new role. So you banished your insecurities from your mind and breezed into the meeting.
"Good morning everyone." You studiously chose not to look at the handsome man you had run into, keeping your eyes on your notes for the time being. You were afraid that if you looked at him you wouldn't be able to tear your gaze away. "The Director has been called away for an urgent matter, so I'll be leading todayās operational planning meeting. For those of you who don't know me, I'm Paloma."
You risked a glance at the handsome stranger, relieved to see that his eyes were on his notepad and not on you. You let out a breath and found your stride, walking the group through the team's findings, the data, the implications, and the desired outcome for the mission. Agent Tequila asked a few cocky, half-assed questions, probing you for weaknesses. Normally that would have irritated you, but today it was a welcome focus that took your mind off the butterflies. You knocked Tequila back in place with a few well-chosen words, and then opened up the floor for questions.
The handsome man raised his hand, and your eyes fixed on how large and thick his fingers were. Oh God, this was torture. "Yes, Mr...?"
"Catfish. Um, can you tell me more about the extraction plan?"
"Yes, absolutely." You went over that phase of the mission, giving all the details your team had gathered about the terrain and the timing. When you were done, Catfish smiled at you, and your knees went weak at the sight of the dimple that appeared. No one else had questions, so you closed the meeting and stood to leave.
Suddenly there was a warm wall of denim at your elbow. "Hey, that was really detailed information. Thank you so much for walking me through everything."
You turned and smiled. "You're welcome. Glad I could help." You fumbled for something to say, trying to extend the conversation and keep him in your orbit for however long you could while everyone else filed out of the room.
"So, um, you go by 'Catfish.' Can I ask why? That's your code name, right? There's not some kind of hidden tragedy where that's the name your parents actually wrote on your birth certificate?"
He chuckled, throwing his head back. The expanse of his thick neck and bobbing Adam's apple did nothing to improve the butterflies. They only fluttered harder, rising higher in your chest.
"It's an old Army nickname, I was Special Forces about a million years ago. Now I'm here on the transport team. I'm a helicopter pilot. When we're not working you can just call me Frankie."
"Ah." You bit your lip and nodded. Why couldn't you think of something else to say? Fortunately, Frankie continued the conversation.
"And you're Paloma around here? I love that drink. Am I allowed to know your real name, or is that classified?"
You grinned and shook his hand, giving him your name. When it rolled off his lips in that deep voice it sounded like heaven to you. You didn't want anyone else to say your name ever again. Just him.
He leaned closer, like he was sharing a secret. āCan I ask you a question? Top secret.ā He winked, and you nodded.
āCan I take you to lunch?ā
Your heart dropped into your pelvis, and you gulped, hard. āY-yes. Yes, that would be great. Iād love to.ā
---
When Ginger found you in your office at 2:00 p.m. you were staring off into space, smiling blissfully.
āHey, Paloma. Why did you blow me off for lunch? I came by at 12:30, I was going to take you out.ā
āOh! Oh my god, Ginger, Iām so sorry! I had a date.ā
She raised her eyebrows at you, settling down in one of your visitors chairs. āA date?ā
āNo! Not a date. A, umā¦ā You burst into husky giggles, and then confessed everything to her: the handsome man, the crinkles around his eyes, his dimples and his silly code name, the easy conversation over lunch, and the fact that he had scribbled his phone number down on a sticky note that was now burning a hole in your pocket. You felt like you were 12 again, confiding in your girlfriend about crushes and cute boys.
Ginger laughed and gave your hand a squeeze. āNo wonder you forgot about me. I canāt compete with a handsome helicopter pilot!ā
āOh, Iām so sorry, Ginger. I really didnāt mean to forget.ā
āNo, itās okay. But definitely call him this weekend and make a real date. Iāll want details when you take me out for an apology lunch on Monday.ā She winked and left your office.
You sat back in your chair and tilted back to look at the ceiling while you considered it. Was it too soon to call him and make a date? Ugh, this was agony. You decided that going by conventional rules hadnāt really mattered to you at any point in your life until now, so why the hell not?
You took a deep breath, trying to puff up your confidence. When he answered the phone on the second ring, you dove right in. āHi, Catfish? Itās Paloma. Listen, I had a really good time at lunch, and Iād like to see you this weekend if youāre free.ā
---
On Monday, you had a whole lot to report to Ginger.
Frankie took you up for a sightseeing flight on your date, and you loved the way he controlled everything; making sure he warned you before any sudden movements, and checking that you werenāt getting airsick or anxious. When the rotors were stilled and you were back on the ground, Frankie reached over to help you unbuckle your harness. Something got stuck, and the agonizing extra seconds of feeling him jostle the strap near your hip made you bold. When it was finally free and he was about to pull his hand away, you grabbed his wrist. He looked at you, alarmed that something was wrong, and you crashed your lips against his, all teeth and tongue and wanting. Frankie was as good a kisser as he was a pilot, and you spent the rest of the date making out in his truck.
The next weekend, you found out that his warm, work-worn hands were also magic in the bedroom. Frankie was adept at tweaking your sensitive spots as gently as the little buttons and switches of the flight panel, bringing you to thrumming heights the same way he did his helicopter.
The rest of the summer passed in heady, humid days and nights like a dream. You loved Frankieās easy sense of humor and his confidence in the cockpit. But Frankie was less confident about your relationship, voicing concerns about the decade-plus that separated your ages, and whether he was keeping you from dating men your own age. He made self-deprecating comments about being an āold man,ā and you reassured him that there was no one youād rather be with, no one who could sway your attention. You loved using your hands and arms and lips and tongue to reassure him, finding that he had his own sensitive spots that you could manipulate. You loved sending him to sleep with a smile on his face.
But as much as you and Frankie enjoyed the relationship, the nature of his work with the transportation team meant that he was never in town for very long. At the same time, your job was getting more complex, requiring late nights at the office that interfered with your time together. You refused to dwell too much on the fact that you were torn, that you loved your work as equally as you wanted to spend those nights with Frankie.
By the end of the summer, you both came to the realization that it was nobodyās fault, simply a case of poor circumstances, and you decided to end things and remain friends. In October Frankie left Statesman to take a job that relocated him to Florida. You were wistful, and you missed him, but at least it had been an amicable split. At least friends was something. And as sometimes happens even with the best of intentions, the time in between each phone call grew longer, and you eventually lost touch. Last you heard he was spending weekends with his old Army buddies who all lived nearby, and he had a new girlfriend. By February the ache was starting to subside, and by April you were nearly ready to date again.
In May, almost three years to the day after Gingerās visit to your apartment had changed your life, you were offered the position to lead the Data Analysis team in New York. You jumped at the chance. Statesman located an apartment for you, and from the pictures you were already in love with it. Huge windows looked out over the city, and it was within walking distance of Statesman HQ. Your farewell party was bittersweet. Ginger offered to come visit you, and promised that New York would be everything you hoped it would be. Your team gave you such high praises that you joked that if thatās what it took to hear accolades, you would have left ages ago.
---
Your first few days in New York were spent acclimating to the Statesman HQ, and getting to know your neighborhood. It was strange to find that you could walk or take the subway for whatever you needed, compared to the Midwest where a car was required for everything. Your new team was welcoming, and you enjoyed your new duties immensely. Your first two weeks on the job passed in no time, and you went home every night feeling like you could fly.
And then you hit a wall, in the form of Jack Daniels, a.k.a. āSenior Agent Whiskey.ā You knew him by reputation, of course. Ginger had filled you in on his exploits, his overbearing charm, his smarmy flirtations. You had seen him once or twice in passing when he had visited Champās office, but you hadnāt actually met him in person.
When you finally did, you almost asked for an immediate transfer back to Louisville. --- "Paloma" Series Masterlist Just-here-for-the-momentās masterlist
