I love Kim Kitsuragi as much as anyone else but the way I sometimes see people portray him feels...off. Like that he's not really flawed and is more just a holy figure to Harry. Nah. Nah that's Harry's perception of Kim. We're influenced by like all 24 voices in our head and by how Harry is a dumpster fire compared to Kim. Kim is weird. He's got a very apparent hatred towards pinball to the point where he completely drops his mask of professionalism. He makes weird noises. He chews his pens constantly. He jots literally everything down in nearly illegible handwriting. He shows up to work every day in a pilot cosplay. Imagine being a cop and your partner kept coming in looking like a doctor, lab coat and stethoscope and all, but you can't really get mad since he's pretty good at his job.

Those are just the weird quirks too. Kim is flawed in others ways. One is his Seolite heritage, which he completely rejects because of the incredible prejudice he faces. He's internalized the idea that being a Seolite is something to be ashamed of. He'll be called racial slurs anyways. Maybe if he calls back to his family being here for generations, they'll listen a little more. Respect him. He (I believe unintentionally) denounces his Seolite heritage and views it through the lens of how Revachol sees it. Something to be ashamed of.

Alternatively, I think another apparent flaw is that Kim is very lenient and forgiving with his own team. Obviously if Harry decides to go down the raging fascist route, he puts his foot down and tells him to get his shit together and stop it, but that's at the very end. He's spineless in that regard. If Harry was just some druggie wasting on the streets, Kim would push his glasses up and make a remark about the city and its cruelty to her people and move on. Like look at the situation Harry is in when the game starts!! He's been on a three-day bender terrorizing the locals, threatening to kill himself, and ultimately ended up with amnesia and doesn't remember jackshit. He's done 0 work whatsoever on the case. Kim just kinda lets out an exasperated sigh and goes "oookkayy then..how about we start with getting the dead body that's been rotting in that tree for a week down?"

Something I think people really forget is that Kim is a cop. Kim loves being a cop! He became a cop because it was the only place where he felt he could be respected. He rides on the high of authority and being above others. It of course stems from his internalized feelings of inadequacy and feeling othered by his peers. Now, he's the law. Above them. He's a bastard but because he's next to Harry he looks like a silly little guy who can do no wrong. Most of the time if you pick the ACAB options Kim will have some negative reaction. "Why should we fuck the police? We literally are the police. We work all day and get into danger all the time why are we the bad guys here?" is basically his reasoning. He doesn't see any flaws whatsoever with the system and just kinda goes "Well, they're just unreasonable" if somebody treats them like cops.

People gotta start recognizing Kim as a flawed character. I love him a lot but c'mmmonnnn his flaws are what makes him unique and fun. Yeah he's your anchor in this all, but he's also just as flawed and messy as anyone else.
