My Summer (and the Song of Cicadas) is filled with symbolic throwbacks to the first two books.
From references to rabbits to crescent moons to variants on "underground forts," be sure to look for these images as you read!

Quinton Wyatt is reluctant to say goodbye to the carefree days of his high school career — but his friend Hamilton is REALLY, REALLY reluctant to say goodbye to the carefree days of his high school career. Fortunately for him, Ham's found a way to avoid reality and keep the high school role-playing game alive — by joining a rather sketchy organization known as The Queen's Secret Order of Chivalry & Knighthood.

The Quinton's Curious Mind Series is complete!
With the release of My Summer (and the Song of Cicadas), you can follow the highly creative and equally anxious Quinton Wyatt throughout his high school years.
It is June 1981 and Quinton Wyatt has just graduated from high school. In three months' time, he'll start a new adventure at an out-of-state university. That doesn’t give him much time to pack, to finalize his roommate situation, and deal with two loves—one urging him to go, the other begging him to stay.
This is the third and final book in the Quinton’s Curious Mind series, bringing to an end Quint’s long quest to find love, friendship, and himself.

"We reassemble outside the camp to use the colorful tents as a backdrop. On the western horizon, the afternoon monsoon is forming in a bank of dark clouds with occasional flashes of lightning. A stiff breeze rolls over the desert floor, making the banners above the pavilions flutter. All this, along with the continuous drone of cicadas, provides a suitably menacing atmosphere that delights me completely. Since the closest I’ve ever come to choreographing a fight scene was smashing together my Star Wars action figures as a kid, I must rely on Parker and his volunteers for suggestions. Fortunately, they have plenty..."

This third and final installment in the Quinton's Curious Mind series releases in September 2024.

"I should be scared, but I’m not. My heart’s thumping in my chest, and my palms are sweaty, but not because I’m frightened by a couple of wanna-be police officers. It’s the exhilaration of running from them with Andy, of how our boring excursion to find cardboard boxes has turned into the live-action thriller we were giggling about half an hour earlier..."

Here's some more artwork and a spoiler-free chapter tease from my upcoming book, MY SUMMER (AND THE SONG OF CICADAS). This chapter deals with a series of surprises when Quinton and his friends visit a pal's new home for the first time. Does anyone remember the classic VW Beetle?
"...With a little more snooping, it becomes clear that Sam’s wrong. This is not where Beetles go to die. It’s a Beetle abattoir, a killing floor, a crime scene perpetrated by Jack the Ripper of cheap German automobiles. All four vehicles are in various states of disassembly. Some are little more than empty shells missing their seats, steering wheels, and even the little doors on the glove compartments. Others have been gutted for their mechanical parts, with mufflers, shock absorbers, crankshaft pulleys, and spark plugs tossed together in plastic crates or discarded among the dried grass and plentiful weeds..."

The glow of neon. The ping and pop of electronic sound effects. So many teenage dreams of glory and so few quarters. How I relived the glorious '80s arcade experience so I could also write it.

My third installment in the Quinton's Curious Mind series will hit bookstores in early 2024. The book takes place during the summer after Quinton and his friends graduate from high school. This preview mini-read is a no-spoiler peak at their graduation ceremony... and the wildly inappropriate commencement speech given by Quint's very cynical friend, Sam.
